We decided to stay at Nail Bay last year when we visited the resort during another trip to Virgin Gorda.
The beautiful grounds and intimate resort were well worth the somewhat bumpy ride on the unpaved road (I want it to stay unpaved so less people come here!).
This is a place for those who love nature, the ocean, and exploring. There are not loud beach bars. Instead, there are intimate stretches of beach, great snorkeling, wonderfully clean rooms, friendly staff and the peace that one craves from working in the corporate world! Also, the views are incredible.
There are condos to rent, as well as villas. Stock up on groceries or arrange for a private chef to cook for you. The open air restaurant on the grounds serves wonderful food and great drinks as well.
I cannot wait to go back! |

My husband and I wanted to go to Virgin Gorda, because we thought it was the nicest of the Caribbean islands. Unfortuantely, we found it to be very expensive.
Part of the reason it was so nice was because there weren't high rise hotels all over the place, but rather just a few super high end resorts and rental properties.
Furthermore, we wanted somewhere we could walk to the beach and would have a beautiful ocean view from our room. Nail Bay was perfect - it had three beaches, a beautiful bar/pool restaurant area, and everything was very nice. We frequently had the beach to ourselves and - compared to the rest of the Caribbean, it was surprisingly reasonably priced.
There was evidence of construction, and I would assume that when all of that is completed, the price will go up quite a bit. Where we stayed in the condos, we couldn't see or hear any construction.
We have stayed at many places throughout the Caribbean, including other places on Virgin Gorda, and we will certainly return to Nail Bay! |

Our accommodation was everything we expected. It had a great kitchen and great space! We had a breathtaking view of the sunset each day.
The roads to Nail Bay were a bit rough and quite interesting. The staff was there if we needed them. The restaurant was okay. There were other great places to eat. A jeep was a necessity. We loved it and would return! |

We rented the Mermaid's Quay as a two-bedroom villa. Although it was their cheapest two-bedroom villa, it was remarkably spacious (it was recently expanded into three bedrooms) and in great condition.
Both main rooms were nicely-equipped, and the deck and watch-tower had fantastic views.
Trunk Bay Beach was a short walk down a track and was great for swimming and for some snorkeling.
The restaurant had a limited menu, but the food we had there was very good (the specials in particular). You will need a car (jeep) to reach shops, other restaurants, and beaches, but be aware that the road leading to the resort is amazingly bad.
There were lots of mosquitos on the island, but the resort provided anti-mosquito spray. |

After reading the reviews and comments on Nail Bay Resort, we found Nail Bay to be more pleasant and comfortable. The staff and management were nice and kind. Accommodations were beautiful, with a well equipped kitchen, private pools and a great beach on property.
We just came back after a week-long vacation and are planning to go back again. Altough it rained almost 20 inches, we found the roads to be okay...that's why we rented 4WD jeep. The first day it was a little difficult to drive, but the government fixed the road and we were back to normal. It was not at all as people had mentioned about the roads being totally washed-off with a lot of damage. I thought Tortola was bad - worse than Virgin Gorda.
Have fun in paradise! |

We stayed at Nail Bay for one week. We stayed in the upper unit of Sunset Watch. The villa was beautiful and the view was amazing. We even had our own pool! The kitchen was very well stocked, and we had a great BBQ grill on our deck.
The resort was down a 1 1/2 mile dirt road that shook us up on the way, but it wasn't too bad. The resort amenities were pretty thin, but the three beaches were great. The snorkeling off of Nail Bay was great, and Mountain Trunk beach was an excellent sandy swimming beach.
As already mentioned, the Dog and Dolphin was okay, but not great. We found better restaurants on the island.
The staff was generally friendly and paid a lot of attention to detail. The grounds were spectucular.
Be warned, there were TVs in the room, but no TV stations! There was a fair video library in the main office. Also, the mosquitoes grow large in the Caribbean, bring your bug spray.
Also, as already mentioned, there was a lot of construction on the resort property, which could get a little annoying. |

We stayed here for two nights. Unfortunately, we had to move from a super deluxe room to a delux room to accommodate a prior reservation moving into the deluxe. But we found both to be very, very nice. The staff we met was also wonderful. I live on St. Thomas, but will be back here on a regular basis. |

We rented a small villa at Nail Bay (Mystic Waters). The accommodations were great!
We had a beautiful ocean view. The small kitchen was not great for cooking, but the BBQ was a great option. The locale was great on the West side of the island (great sunsets). We booked a package that included a jeep. The mobility allowed for a lot of adventures and we traveled to many beaches. The three beaches at Nail bay were great and very accessible.
The staff was really friendly and accommodating. Binny was a great help booking trips, and very helpful while we were there. We would love to go back, pretty much any day of the week.
Do your self a favor and go to this gem if you want a relaxed, independent vacation. If you want to be annoyed by a lot of loud people from the US be sure to visit The Bitter End Yacht Club.
Our only negative comment about Nail Bay was the construction (at times it blocked the only road). Also, the food at the Dog and Dolphin was just okay, but the drinks were great.

It had just about everything that was needed for a lovely getaway from everything and for just relaxing.
I think I would come here again and again - and maybe again one more time just to cool out! |
