Upon our arrival at Beef Island Airport, we were greeted by Audley, the property manager. We immediately felt we were in for a special treat. Alamanda sat atop little mountain at Beef Island with views of the ocean and surrounding islands. The airport was minimally visable from the front views, and seeing an occasional plane land was actually enjoyable. Do not consider the proximity to the airport as a negative.

The landscaping at Alamanda was plush with palms and local plants. The entrance had two stone piers and a nice gradual driveway to the front entrance.

The rooms were very large, comfortably furnished and clean; all as promised on WhereToStay.com's website. Audley gave us a wonderful tour of a truly wonderful cozy home that was quiet and expansive.

There were three dining areas, a large in-door living area as well as a very nice outdoor sitting area with TV overlooking the pool, Alamanda was a special place.

Beef Island was only a ½ hour drive to the east end of Tortola, and about a 20-minute drive to Road Town. While some of the beaches that we enjoyed the most were at the west end of the island, the 30 minute drive to Long Beach and Smuggler’s Cove was actually very scenic and gave a good overview of island life.

The road network was not as bad as some would have you believe and not nearly as treacherous as St. Barts. You can catch a ferry at Beef Island to Virgin Gorda for a day at the Baths which is truly enjoyable, especially if you have kids.

Or, take a day sail to Anegada for lobster on the beach and great snorkeling at Loblolly Beach. Our favorite restaurant, The Last Resort, is on a small island off Beef Island with a free two-minute boat shuttle provided by the restaurant and Pussers Landing on its own island off Beef Island. It was also worth the visit with food that was very superior to Pussers at Soper’s Hole.

Almost every other day, Audley contacted us to make sure all was fine. When we asked for a few items, including a ruler for my son to do his homework, a ruler was provided within a few hours. While much of the service at Tortola would be considered island service, this was not the case at Alamanda Estate.
