1.0 stars the manager needs a lesson in manners. Visited: March 2008

After a week on a Moorings boat, we stayed two nights at this resort. What a complete disaster!

Our first room had so much mildew in the bathroom, my wife and kids took a shower outside in the shower to rinse off the sand from the beach. They moved us to another room that was sanitary, except it had no air conditioning or hot water. I had the front desk person get the General Manager, Mr. Leslie, on the phone. His response was "Why don't you just take your family and leave?".

What should we expect for $400 per night? There were so many issues at this hotel that if it were in the states, the health department, building department and Fire Marshall would close this hotel in a second.

2.0 stars Great location, poor services Visited: October 2004

My husband and I spent 8 days here, beautiful scenery and beach. WE were without hot water for six of the eight days. We were never informed that the pool was closed, or that the restaurant was only open for breakfast and lunch at very expensive prices, not a lot available from the menu. It was very inconvenient to have to cross the hills into town for an evening meal EVERY night. Pool was filled the day of our departure. Because

of a severe undertow in the ocean, it would have been nice to have had the pool as an alternative. They did lower the rate because of our complaints, all in all I would try somewhere else next time.I must add that we did have abooking discount due to construction and a relative resident.

It was our second stay at Lambert Beach Resort, the first with our kid (who was four years old at the time).

The greatest deal of the resort was with no doubt the beach. It was absolutely beautiful (in my opinion one of the best on Tortola) and "crowded" with no more than ten people.

The rooms were in a beautiful garden. Ours was very clean and comfortable, with a spacious bathroom, air conditioning, ceiling fan and TV.

In addition, the restaurant offered excellent food.

The resort was away from everything, so you really need to rent a vehicle (a jeep would fit) but I do not consider it a con, as I like to go around on my own. We most likely will return here in the summer - 2005.

4.0 stars Lambert Beach was a great place at a great price. Visited: February 2004

We stayed at the Lambert Beach Resort for five nights and had the most wonderful time.

The rooms were clean with the biggest shower I have been in. The beds were good, and the doors locked. The food was very good to excellent, the chef had been out fishing one day and cooked us the fish he caught.

The beach was wonderful, and not deep so we could wade out. We would sit every night and have wine and cheese on the beach.

They do need to fix their TV, if you don't read or go into town, it would be a little slow. Still, in all, we had a wonderful time and are going back in 2005 for a week.

1.0 stars Where not to stay Visited: February 2004

We reserved a beachfront suite months in advance of our stay to have one last day at the beach after we completed our sailing vacation. We arrived to find that our beachfront room was not available and were offered an upgrade. In order to accept the upgrade I would need to be a mountain goat! We had to be driven to the room because it was so far up the hill. If we accepted that room we would have a long and difficult walk to the resort. The room we were finally assigned to did have a view of the beach through the trees. The room was only average, did not contain a control for the A/C, and did not contain cups for use with the coffee maker. We then discovered that hotel does not offer potable water. You must purchase your drinking water at the bar. We waited one hour and fifteen minutes to be served our breakfast. We requested a reservation for the Sunday brunch and were told it was mandatory since the brunch was so popular. The staff in the restaurant told us it was not necessary to make a reservation. To our surprise when we showed up for brunch there was none. the management and the restaurant staff do not communicate. The public ladies and mens rooms contained no supplies. The management of the hotel is not controlling the basic infrastructure of the hotel. And, the cost of the room was not in keeping with the condition of the room and lack of services by the management and the restaurant staff. I find this hotel to be out of control and cannot recommend it. The beach is the only asset even though it is not maintained well.

This e-mail is for Leslie and the entire staff: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making Ryan's wedding week wonderful for her and for all of her guests.

Everyone is sad to be home and can't stop talking about what a great time they had at Lambert. Thanks for the extra effort that all of you put in to make the wedding day and evening so special and perfect.

The food was excellent, as was the service. The restaurant looked beautiful - we could not have asked for more.

Be thankful you are where you are. I'm looking out the window at the falling snow and the temperature is in the teens - oh how I long for the islands! I hope to be back soon. Thanks again!

4.0 stars God bless air conditioning. Visited: August 2003

I was in Tortola for a family reunion, so several of the complaints I've read here didn't affect me much - namely the slow restaurant (the pizza was hot, fast and delicious, though) and the remoteness, which did require a vehicle of some sort (provided by my family).

However, despite those tiny inconveniences, I loved the experience. Our room locked, the bed stayed together very well, the pool was nice, the beach was incredible and most importantly, the air conditioning worked.

As for the locals, I am American (and white), and I didn't notice that they weren't friendly. They weren't awed by Americans, though, which could translate into dislike to many people.

In my opinion, if an intimate (I never saw more than five people at a time on the spectacular white sand beach), beautiful beach resort away from the rest of the world is what you're looking for, Lambert is the place to go.

Don't worry that there's not a TV; you'll only appreciate the island more. You have not lived until you've seen pelicans fishing in the sunset. All in all, I loved the experience and I would happily stay at Lambert again.

3.0 stars It was nice, but... Visited: June 2003

We were staying with some friends on St. John, USVI, and decided to travel to British Virgin Islands for a night. We found a listing for Lambert Beach on the Internet and decided to try it. Be advised that you will need a rental car to get to the property. It is on the extreme east end of the island. Use the flat road to the south to get there. We were given directions by the Hertz agent that put us on Ridge Rd. and to say the least it was an adventure. We arrived in the late morning, just as the breakfast hour was ending. We were told by the front desk that we could just make breakfast, but when we sat down, the restaurant staff acted like we were causing them a problem.

The room was nice, but there was no TV, which could be a negative if one is not into nightlife. Also, the king bed was just two twin beds put together, and we almost fell through the middle. The beach was nice, and although the pool was big, it was nothing special. Having been to other resorts, my fiance and I were somewhat disappointed.

The thing we found most disappointing was the island itself. Thinking that we were coming to a British territory, we thought we would find a quaint town with nice atmosphere. What we discovered was a rather rundown town (Roadtown), with locals who were not too friendly to visitors. We had planned on staying the entire second day, but decided to get the first ferry back to St. John.

After a week of sailing, we decided to stay on land for a couple of days. Having visited all the islands in the BVI, we decided Tortola would have the most options. Although we had not made any reservations, we recalled most of the rooms were at Cane Garden or Long Bay.

We asked folks at the Moorings and several others and heard nice things about Lambert, which was on the north end of the island by itself. We rented a jeep and went to explore. The resort was remote from anything else, which appealed to us. Cane Garden Beach was full of cruise ship tourists and the beach at Lambert typically had - at most - ten people up and down the half mile (very nice white powder) beach.

Our room facing the beach was large, clean, with high ceilings, and very comfortable. The food was very good, they had a young chef from Italy who took great pride in his craft. The service was friendly, but island laid-back..no-rushing about for anything.

It was very quiet, you will need to rent a jeep if you want to find any nightlife. And the jeep rides over the mountain roads was a challenge, but you can drive from one end of the island to another in 20 minutes.

All in all, we felt very lucky to have found Lambert and found it very well priced and a great place to stay, a simple version of Peter Island at a fifth the cost.

My husband and I and our two children stayed for our family vacation in February of 2003. The beds were not too comfortable. The king-sized bed is a joke, as we fell through the middle of the two beds put together. We asked several times for the lock on our door to be repaired, but it was never done.

The only positive part of this resort is the beach. You will need to rent a jeep to get around. Just be careful of the rainstorms and the steep terrain. We almost went off the side of the mountain in an extremely bad rainstorm one day, which was very scary for my children. All in all, it was not the greatest place to stay.

What a perfect spot! They have a glorious beach, and friendly staff that loves children. The pool is great, too. I hate to say to many good things about Lambert Beach because too many tourists would ruin this little bit of heaven. I can't wait to go back!

We have frequented the USVI and BVI now for the past 12 years. Lambert is by far the best facility we have stayed at in our travels. The staff is wonderfully accommodating and gracious. It is also in a great location. Kudos to Lambert!

1.0 stars Lambert Beach Resort - Pretty location but . . . Visited: July 2002
Posted by ecm56
We stayed at Lambert Beach Resort on the third leg of our recent trip to the BVI in July of 2002. Lambert Beach Resort is a beautiful location - a wide white sand beach, and a secluded location on the Northwest side of Tortola. The beach faces Guana Island's White Bay.

In addition to a beautiful beach, they also have a very large pool in the middle of the resort.

We were disappointed in the service, particularly at the restaurant, which seemed to be running on a skeleton crew (perhaps this is their off-season procedure).

A few other issues we found: Refrigerators in rooms didn't work because they were installed in cabinets with no ventilation (hint - leave the cabinet door open and the fridge works much better). No hot water for morning shower (although there did seem to be hot water later in the day). Door locks on room were broken. Paint was peeling off pool. "Swim up" bar at pool was closed (again, this might be their off-season procedure). The King size bed we requested was two twin beds pushed together (yes, I fell through "the crack").

With some work on the facilities and the services this could be made into a first rate resort. As it is, I would compare it carefully to some of the other offerings in the BVI.

4.0 stars We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lambert. Visited: July 2002

We vacationed at the Lambert Beach Resort for nine days the first week in July (2002). We had a wonderful time. The beach and water were magnificent. We've heard there's an undertow at other times of the year, but we had flat, calm waters the entire time we were here.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. They were modest, but a very good value for the price. We would definitely stay here again. We cannot recommend the restaurant. Unfortunately, both my husband and I got quite ill from the one dinner we had there. There were many better choices for restaurants on Tortola.

The service, the grounds, and the pool were also all excellent.

You definitely need to rent a jeep to explore the island, other beaches and wonderful restaurants.

My wife and I stayed at this resort after sailing in the BVI for a week. The first thing we wanted was a hot shower. The water in the room was far from warm. We reported to the front desk that we did not have hot water. The water problem was never fixed. The food at the only resturant at the resort was poor and expensive. The pool bar was a joke. There were no cold beers, and also the bar did not have ice. We have been to several Caribbean Islands, and would not stay at this resort again.

3.0 stars Good choice, but curious how it compares to other resorts. Visited: August 2001

We spent the last week of August enjoying the off-season in Tortola. What a beautiful island! Lambert Resort is somewhat removed from other resorts, beaches and restaurants but is on the best swimming beach on the Island. (Although the undercurrent in winter is reported to be very strong.)

Our beachfront room was pleasant, clean and the air conditioning worked very well. The key at Lambert is to have a jeep to go exploring the rest of the island, as taxis are expensive and the resort itself has only one restaurant (which has a fantastic view of the ocean, but the food is average). The "belongers" on the island are generally not friendly with visitors.

All in all, the staff at Lambert was very helpful and professional, but did not go out of their way to make us feel welcomed or pampered. One restaurant to try which is very close to Lambert Beach is Eclipse. It’s a bit pricey, but the food and service was spectacular.

3.0 stars A mind refreshing visit to the seclusion of your soul. Visited: April 2001

My husband and I recently stayed at Lambert Beach Resort for our honeymoon on Tortola. We had an oceanfront room, which is definitely the way to go.

We rented a car for our entire stay since the taxi fares were so high and had the opportunity to travel around the entire island. I suggest renting a vehicle with 4-wheel drive if you wish to explore. (The ridge road is not made for tiny cars.) After seeing the many beaches, we found a great comfort knowing that we were on the best beach of the entire island. Lambert has views that no other resort can offer.

We enjoyed our stay, although we found that we felt very unwelcome on the island in general. It seemed as if there was great animosity towards Americans. We also were staying at Lambert Beach during a management change from Pussers to the new owner. When we booked our reservations, we were booked for with a Pussers package. To our surprise, Pussers no longer had anything to do with the resort. It was kind of disappointing. All in all, our stay was pleasant.

2.0 stars Decent, but better options are available. Visited: January 2001
Posted by koichi_john
My fiancé and I came here during January with high expectations for the BVI. The Islands are fantastic, but this resort is very mediocre.

Let me start by saying that if you stay here you must have a rental car, otherwise you will be trapped, or worse, dependent on taxis that may or may not show up, even if you call in the morning to confirm.

The service varies by individual, but the restaurant was particularly bad, made worse by the fact that it’s the only option for those without a car.

The rooms are decent but do not have TVs, which would be nice to have if you're not the type that likes to go out and drink at night. The beach is the best aspect of the resort: clean, white sand with virtually no one else there at all times. Bare in mind that this is a swimming beach, with pretty rough surf; snorkelers should look to the nearby Long Beach.

This would be an ideal resort for a family with young kids. It has a nice pool, tennis courts, and a small entertainment center, and best of all, and it is safe, aside from the inherent dangers of the ocean.
