My wife and I stayed at Heritage Inn following a yacht charter. We found the hotel and booked the room through a web search. Their web pictures and description were enticing, but reality was much better.
The staff was kind, helpful, informative and unobtrusive. Rooms were large, well appointed, clean and included wonderful views of the north side of Tortola. In addition, the pool was clean, and a good temperature and refreshing.
An unexpected treat was the Bananakeet restaurant/lounge. They provided really good drinks and food of a quality and presentation that would warrant a five-star rating.
All in all, we had a very pleasant experience, and we are already planning our next visit. Thanks, and congratulations to the owners. |

We encountered bedbugs during our stay! Visited: March 2005 |

We were here for ten days. The first five were sheer hell. We were in a sad little room, sleeping in an incredibly uncomfortable bed where we were awakened every night by scratching ourselves bloody due to bedbugs. Their solution? A can of bug spray.
After only visiting two locations (including this one), our credit card number was stolen in the middle of the night, and someone tried to rack up the charges. Thankfully, our bank took care of us.
The good: The view was spectacular; John the chef was an amazing cook; the maids were incredibly sweet and felt very badly for all the trouble we endured.
After five days of misery and divine intervention, they moved us to a much better suite where we were much more comfortable and there were no bugs. There were lots of ants, though. Don't even leave a crumb on the counter!
The only reason we think they moved us, though, was because it was the end of high season and most of the rooms were empty. It cost us a ton, and there was no offer from anyone to reimburse us after losing half our vacation to a miserable experience! Next time, we'll go to Mexico! |

Chris and Joan make this place wonderful. heritage Inn provides scenic views, great food, and it's clean. Also, they have a nice pool, and treat their guests like kings (and queens).
It is more than what you would expect. There are also good wines in every room. I could retire to here and stay forever. |

We did not want to leave the Heritage Inn. The view, the people, the dogs and cat, the food, and the rooms were so much more than we had anticipated.
We plan to return for a two-week stay next year. |

The views at Heritage Inn are awesome. The sunsets are great, the staff is exceptional, and the food is excellent.
Also, the owner is very gracious, the suites are adequate. Heritage Inn offers a central location to west end, east end and Road Town, with good ferries to Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, etc. |

Heritage Inn on Tortola was a great spot for a much too short stay on Tortola. The views from our corner suite were awsome. The amenities in the room were much more than expected.
The owner, Christina, gave us extra special service which can't be found at ordinary hotels. Also, the swimming pool was a sparkling fresh retreat from the October heat. Heritage Inn is a real gem! |

I can't say enough good things about Heritage Inn. It was beautiful, comfortable and hospitable. From the moment we arrived, it was like a home away from home with Chris (the owner) taking care of us like the really cool aunt that you always wanted to go visit when you were little.
The one room suite we were in was spacious and comfortable. The staff of both the inn and the restaurant were wonderful. And the views...truly the best sunset views on BVI.
I would highly recommend Heritage to anyone planning a trip to Tortola and I can't wait to return. |

The suites in this little inn perched on a hillside are pretty, comfortable and functional (with a spacious kitchenette). But it is the view from every balcony over the bar, restaurant and pool just below out to the incredibly blue sea dotted with other Virgin Islands glittering in amazing sunsets that makes it unforgettable.
I have returned to this gem many times over the past few years and can report that the recent change of management is all for the good - particularly in the poolside restaurant where the food is modern, healthy and interesting.
The suites have no phones, but the barstaff is so friendly that it's a pleasure to wander down for a swim, a rum punch and maybe a phone call..... or maybe just another rum punch.... who needs phones in paradise? |

Spectacular view - excellent restaurant but low-class rooms Visited: July 2004 |

The Heritage Inn has one of the most spectacular views at the British Virgin Islands. The restaurant serves excellent local food at decent/mid-scale prices, and great Carribean mixed drinks all including a seating with the most spectacular view over the pool at the hill-side and the beautiful Carribean water and islands. The restaurant is worth every penny, just for the view!
The rooms, however, is a big down trip! We stayed in Apartment #1, which was a two bedroom apartment with a nice big kitchen and a single bath (with shower only). The decorations and interior were lousy to put it mildly. Curtains just clashy rags put up to cover the ugly windows. The window in the master bedroom could not close, which meant that none of us got any sleep, because we had to listen to a very loud aircon (the only one in the apartment) in the other window and a heavy rain pour for two hours during the night.
The screen door in the living room had to be lifted inch by inch to move at all. The kitchen cabinets were disgusting and filthy inside, although there were lots of nice plates, glasses etc. The buttons on the gas stove stuck to your fingers from old grease.
In the bathroom shower many tiles were missing on the floor and the damages were just covered with a rubber mat. The shower head was clogged and gave almost no water at all. The bathroom sink had not been cleaned before we got the apartment (had pubic hair and soap remains all over).
In the living room the TV and telephone had been removed with cables/wires stilling dangling.
At the price the Inn charges this apartment was a disaster! (We paid $110 + 7% gov.tax for the room with one bedroom locked off).

The stay exceeded all expectations. Visited: April 2004 |

My wife, son and I had the best time staying at the Heritage Inn. The staff was great, food from Jason was fantastic, and the swimming pool was clean and refreshing.
The views are amazing, and it was near to everywhere on the island. It was just up the hill from Cane Garden bay on one side, and beautiful beaches on the other.
The rooms were clean and the air conditioning worked great. We used the kitchen almost every day. Christina, the manager, was very helpful in planning our activities.
The value for what you will pay, and the amount of memories you will enjoy is well worth the reasonable nightly rate. Be sure to rent a car and ask about local captains for a one- or two-day trip. We loved every minute of our stay and plan on returning. |

Great view, comfy bed--what else dou you need? Visited: November 2002 |

We were at the villas right on the "shoulder season" between low- and high-season. So, not all the rooms were occupied. The view was spectacular. I repeat--spectacular. The pool was refreshing and well-kept, with shade in the morning. They provided comfy deck chairs if you wanedt to lounge.
The rooms were comfortable, with full-size showers (no elbow-banging), and a nice little kitchen. We only used the kitchen for making coffee and breakfast, but there was a 4-burner stovetop and a microwave if you wanted to cook meals. The manager has been replacing mattresses and A/C units, and plans to continue upgrading gradually.
The sliding glass door onto the porch had a screen, so you could get air without the bugs. Due to the location, we were far enough away from town to have no noise (even roosters) to disturb us. We only heard the whooshing of the waves on the rocky beach below. Ask for beach towels--no need to bring your own. Do bring shampoo. There are pots and pans, plates and bowls, silverware, a coffeemaker and blender, and a small fridge.
Don't expect glitz and glamour on this island or at the villas. Do expect gorgeous scenery, friendly people, comfortable lodging, and good food. Ask about local restaurants. (Cane Garden Bay has a terrific little bar/restaurant called Myett's, built around the trees.) When you feel like staying put, the restaurant at the villas is good (closed Wed.).
In summary, we loved it. Loved, loved, loved. Were already figuring how soon we could come back, before we even left. Phooey on expensive resorts--stay *here*. The beaches are close, there are good local seafood restaurants at the foot of the hill, and you'll use up all your film on the view from your porch.
Note: The article's info is a little out of date--there's a new manager, Tom from Brooklyn, who's quite friendly. Also, the owner seems no longer to have his car rental agency. They use Hertz, which is fine. They'll make the arrangements for you. |
