My wife and I (early fifties) stayed at Coconut Point in the middle of March for a week. We have been to many Caribbean islands and have a pretty good idea what we are talking about.
The first thing I would like to talk about was the driving on Tortola. The roads were narrow, straight up and down and people drove like maniacs. I am a very good driver and have driven on every island we have visited with no problem. By the time we got to the rental office, I wondered if maybe I could not handle driving on Tortola.
After a day of driving here, it was easy. We reserved a car through Avis because they were a major company. When we got to the airport, they weren’t there. We were told they were not at the airport but were in Roadtown. We took a taxi into town to the Avis office ($20). If you are going to drive here, rent a jeep or SUV. .
Coconut Point was very nice. We had the Bougainvillea with two bedrooms, two baths on the ground floor. Another reviewer wrote that it was dirty. We did not find it any dirtier than most places in the Caribbean. The tile floors were stained, and the bedroom smelled musty. But mostly, we loved this place. It was so well setup with the stuff we needed to for housekeeping for a week I was amazed.
The down side would have to be the roosters that crowed at exactly 4:15 every morning for an hour - unless they got confused and then it was 2:00 am! We have never found mosquitoes to be a problem on other islands; they were here.
The food in Tortola was not very good no matter what anyone says. We cooked breakfast in the room because that was the one meal that was definitely not worth the money.
Two exceptions were the Palms Delight - which was two minutes to the west and on the beach. They were not a rip-off and the honey stung chicken was great. The other that should definitely not be missed was the Bananakeet with its magnificent view and the best food we had on the island. Pussers, in Sopers Hole, was pretty good, but the service was worse than island time.
We loved it here; it was beautiful, quiet and still not too developed. But go soon, it’s not going to last. The cable TV and cruise ships will ruin this place. |

We stayed at Coconut Point in Carrot Bay. We rented the Orchid, which was the studio. The apartment was clean, spacious, and had everything we could possibly want for a great vacation, including books to read!
We met Uschi, the manager, at Sebastians, and she took us straight away to our apartment. We enjoyed Orchid. It was quiet and peaceful; right on the ocean. The A/C worked wonderfully, although some days we didn’t need it. The water pressure was great in the shower, and there were plenty of towels and soaps.
There was also a coffee pot, blender, two refrigerators, and plenty of space. There was cable TV and a few chairs for lounging. There were also French doors that led to a great porch. We just wish they’d trim that tree in front. It blocked a good bit of the view.
Staying in Carrot Bay was great, too. We were close to Long Bay Beach Resort where we ate breakfast a few times. Also, Sebastian's was great. We had dinner there twice and it was wonderful. Palms Delight was a great restaurant, too, right down the road, and Bomba’s Shack was within walking distance.
It was an interesting place. |

I have been staying at Coconut Point for the last three years, starting with one week first and this year for two weeks.
I love how conveniently it is located to all the various beaches, just a short ride to Cane Garden Bay and to Smugglers Cove. My kids can easily walk over to Little Apple Bay when they want to go boogie-boarding early in the morning - this way I can stay in bed and sleep long, which isn't possible for the rest of the year. It is also close to Sugar Mill, Sebastian's on the Beach (best Banana-Pancakes!), Bomba's Surfshack and Palm's Delight (Ginger-Chicken!)
The apartments are so nicely decorated and really fully equipped. We were staying in Frangipani this year and it even had an electric juicer.
We especially enjoy having the large porch with the great view of the ocean and the neighboring islands. The gas-BBQ is an excellent touch. The owners really thought of anything you might need to make your vacation enjoyable - including beachtowels, cooler and chairs to take to the beach.
In the three times we have stayed here, we have always found the apartments spotless clean. And if it wouldn't have been for the kids to carry all the sand all over the place, we really wouldn't have needed the maidservice, which was provided three times during our two-week stay.
The pool is small, but it is perfect to cool off. And I do like the lounge-chair with the roof to have some shade to read.
This place is absolutely beautiful and we definitely will come back. We recommend Coconut Point to all our friends and are especially happy that the rates are still within our budget.

Nice location, great views, but needed cleaning. Visited: April 2003 |

The view was great. The porches were big and furnished. The apartment was not new or fancy, but was furnished adequately. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. They even provided a cooler and beach chairs. There are (limited) services within walking distance.
However, I was very disappointed at how dirty our apartment was. It obviously hadn't been cleaned well before we arrived, and there was also built-up dirt and grime as if it needed a good spring cleaning. The pool (which is just big enough to cool off in, not swim) also looked as if it needed cleaning. |

We were recommended to Coconut Point and were not disappointed.
Our hostess, Uschi, could not have been more helpful, the accommodation was clean and airy with a lovely balcony with wonderful views over Joste Van Dyke.
Our only criticism was the lack of AC in one of the bedrooms and a standard double bed in the other. Although we were right by the beach, it was not accessible opposite the villa. But then everyone visiting Tortola knows that a vehicle is essential and several lovely beaches were close by.
We enjoyed our daily walk along the bay and especially enjoyed meeting our neighbors who soon became our friends.
Bomba's Shack was over the hill just past the Islands Beach restaurant. Beware the beer battered onion rings.
Tortola was a lovely island, but you have to be determined to get there from the United Kingdom, it takes a long time to get there.
We recommend a stay at Coconut Point |
