Casa de Miel, Tortola, BVI traveler review

All that we hoped for - met our expectations Visited: November 2008
Posted by janet@bussellinterio
In a great location, walking distance to beach, restaurants and bars so long as you don't mind climbing some very steep hills but then again the steep hills are part of the charm of Tortola! The upper level of the villa is the best, loved the decor and tile work in all of the bathrooms. It was difficult to decide whether to just stay in the pool and look at the bay and beach directly below or to actually tear ourselves away from the villa and go to the beach. Very convenient drive to the West End via Zion Hill and also quick drive to Road Town. Mornings on the deck were great for goat watching and listening to all of the roosters and least we forget the evening activity of watching the sailboats moor in the bay while listening to the bo-peep frogs.

Little Dix Bay, Jost Van Dyke, BVI traveler review

Poor management ruined our honeymoon here. Visited: August 2008
Posted by ljggmw
Little Dix Bay is a nice enough resort, but there are nicer places to stay with less associated headaches.

We honeymooned at Little Dix Bay in August of 2008, and they made two huge accounting errors with no apology.

First, they overcharged us by $6,000. When we brought this to their attention, no apology was made, but the charge was removed. Three months later, a charge of over $1,000 was posted on our credit card with no explanation. Apparently, when removing the initial charge, their staff made another mistake. Rather than contacting us, they simply charged our card without notice. That was totally unprofessional.

Further, the pool was small, often dirty, and rarely staffed by waitstaff. The waterfront was pleasant, but the daily paper told guests not to go in the water due to jellyfish.

It was not the most plesant experience.

Cielo (formerly Fawlty Towers), Tortola, BVI traveler review

This is a great villa above Cane Garden Bay. Visited: October 2008
Posted by bnsilly
My husband and I stayed here with seven friends. This was our second visit to Tortola, and our first time staying at Cielo.

The only thing that concerned me about this villa prior to arrival, was the possible limited view due to the trees. Upon arriving, that concern was quickly put to rest. The view was very very good! We had great view of Cane Garden Bay, Long Bay, etc. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets, as well.

We arrived at the villa, and Allison was there to meet us and give us an orientation. There was rum punch waiting...what a nice touch!

The pool was a little smaller than we expected. However, it was still plenty big enough for us to have a fun pool party one evening.

The five bedrooms were all good, and separate enough for all to have privacy. We stayed in room #5. It was the only one with no AC, and this concerned me at first. However, there were nice breezes, and it was never a problem. We even covered up at night when sleeping, because I was "chilly". It was perfect, really.

The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and other items. Some items were limited like trash bags, paper towels, no dish soap, etc. so we had to buy those things. We didn't have to do that at the previous villa we had stayed in. However, those were minor things, and we will know for next time.

If you have children, there are several windows with no screens, so that would be a big safety issue. I would not have any reservations with staying at Cielo in the future. It was a great villa.

Euphoria, Virgin Gorda, BVI traveler review

It is simply euphoric. Visited: August 2008

We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed this villa and Virgin Gorda. The views were spectacular and ever-changing. Also, the villa was beautifully appointed - with all new furniture and appliances in the great room.

This had to be one of our best vacations yet. We're going back!

This place is amazing! The friendly staff makes this one of the nicest villas in the Caribbean.

We were in the villa during Hurrricane Omar, and still had an awesome time. If you get a chance to stay in this luxurious place, please take the chance to relax and tell Martin! Go Boston!

It was about time Virgin Gorda has a wonderful place to stay. It is so relaxing and so gorgeous, with soft frette linens, bulgari indulgement, the dreambed at the private beach park, and the sunset. It is paradise by the beach.

We had a fantastic week in Tortola. Visited: October 2008

We had an absolutely wonderful week at the Captain's House.

The location and views were perfect. The house had everything we needed.

I would recommend this house to anyone who wants a private setting with breathtaking views. It's also just minutes from two great beaches (Long Bay and Smuggler's Cove).

I highly recommend it.

Christa Villa, Virgin Gorda, BVI traveler review

It was absolutely great. Visited: June 2008
Posted by kod
In June 2008, stayed at Christa Villa. We were four couples and two singles. It was our first time to Virgin Gorda, and hopefully not our last.

We made friends with the staff at the restaurant at Leverick Bay, and they were blown away with the view from the villa.

This was a great place for rest and relaxation. We heard it was for sale, and that we were the last group to stay here. I certainly hope that isn't true because we'd love to go back again.

Sunny Side Up Villa, Tortola is the best. Visited: August 2008

What a fabulous villa! It has beautiful furnishings, an awesome view, privacy, and everything was immaculate!

The kitchen and grill afforded us an opportunity to cook fun and delicious meals with local foods. We were met at the airport by JC, the manager of several of these villas. That was the best in customer service to help us get going!

Guana Island, Guana Island, BVI traveler review

It was amazing. Visited: March 2008
Posted by familyman
We went to Guana Island for a family vacation with our ten- and 13-year-old, and every one in the family loved it. I recommend it for families with nice adventurous and reasonably mellow kids. However, if you have any small children, or the have lots of energy, I suggest something more like Atlantis.

I also recommend Guava Island for romance and a nice getaway.

It was so huge, that most places we went, we felt like we had the island to ourselves.

The staff was very nice, and they really made us feel at home. The kids loved it because they always found something to do - exploring, water skiing, wind surfing, or even scuba diving.

I recommend Guana Island, and if you come here, I bet you will recommend it, too.

Casa De Miel Villa s a wonderful experience. Visited: August 2008

The interior is very nicely furnished, and the view of Cane Garden Bay, Jose Van Dyke and St. Thomas on a clear day can't be beat.

The owner, Ron Cline, and his employees go over and above what we expected to make us feel at home. The second night, they prepared a dinner for us that was the best dinner we had while on Tortola.

Sugar Mill Hotel, Tortola, BVI traveler review

It's just as their tag line reads. Visited: April 2008
Posted by drewdungan
My wife and I hosted our wedding reception at The Sugar Mill in 2005, so it will always be a special place for us. We recently stayed here again with two other couples after a bareboat charter. My wife and I, and our guests, could not have been happier.

Everything about the Sugar Mill Hotel is special, and nothing will disappoint. The setting, on Apple Bay on Tortola's northwest shore, is idyllic and one of the most quiet areas on the island. The view across to Jost Van Dyke is fantastic, and Apple Bay boasts one of the best surf breaks in the BVI, adding great sound to the scenery.

The hotel and Mill house blend perfectly into the hillside, and the rooms (the pool rooms are spectacular) are well-appointed without being stuffy.

The staff is attentive and very accommodating. It was impressive to see that several of the staff remembered us from our wedding. Such attention is a tribute to Liz Humphrey, the hotel administrator, who also took the time to personally welcome us back.

If you are looking for a lot of activity, this is not the place. If you want to unplug and relax, The Sugar Mill can’t be beat.

We already look forward to our next stay at The Sugar Mill.

Olde Yard Village, Virgin Gorda, BVI traveler review

This was a fun place to stay! Visited: July 2008
Posted by travelchick
We had such a great time at the Old Yard Inn!

The rooms were clean, and the grounds were beautiful. Our room was a two- bedroom/two-bath with all of the amenities we could ask for. There was flat screen TV, iPod docking station, plush towels and brand new furniture.

The resort was just painted, and the grounds were very well maintained.

The tennis courts were free, too. The wireless access was a little sketchy, but we got a clear signal at the pool. We stayed during a Puerto Rican holiday, and Virgin Gorda was hopping.

This was a very well maintained resort, and reasonably priced considering some of the other properties on the island.

The restaurant on site had great food, too! We would definitely come back with our kids next time.

Necker Island, Necker Island, BVI traveler review

This is the most amazing place for a kid. Visited: July 2007
Posted by blobrich24
This trip was, by far, the most fantastic place I have been to. We came here to celebrate my grandfather's 70th Birthday. As an 11-year-old kid, I have never been anywhere like this (along with the 21 members of my family who went).

I made best friends with the chefs, and they let me cook with them for an entire day. And the staff will take you anywhere you want, and would do whatever you need.

I would recommend this island for very rich people, because it is expensive. It was an absolutely unforgettable trip, though.

Sugar Mill Hotel, Tortola, BVI traveler review

We had a wonderful stay at the Sugar Mill Hotel. Visited: June 2008
Posted by cmurrell
My husband and I stayed at the Sugar Mill Hotel for three nights in June. We stayed in the upper level Plantation Suite.

The staff was helpful and friendly. The grounds were beautiful, and there was a nice beach across the street. I thought the landscaping was lovely - with lots of pretty flowers and lush trees.

Our room was very accommodating and clean. It was a large open room with a separate area that included a couch and chairs, and a large bed on the back wall.

The bathroom was nice and big, with a large shower and two sinks. It also had a little kitchen area with microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. My favorite thing was the balcony with a hammock and a beautiful view of Jost Van Dyke and Apple Bay.

The dinners at the restaurant were nothing short of fantastic. From the delicious appetizers all the way through the wonderful entrees and finally the fresh desserts, it was some of the best food I've ever tasted.

We have been to many different places in the Caribbean, and the Sugar Mill was by far our favorite. We will be returning as soon as possible!

Maria's by the Sea Hotel, Tortola, BVI traveler review

Maria's has friendly staff and is a quiet accommodation. Visited: September 2007
Posted by sugarcityman
I stayed at Maria's By The Sea Hotel September 2007, when I visited the island to witness the Miss Caribbean World Pageant. I found the staff at the front desk to be extremly helpful and friendly, and I was even given a room I did not pay for.

I can and would recommend anyone going to Tortola to stay at Maria's, because it is easy to get around from the hotel, and the staff is always willing to give information and to answer questions.

I met the owner. She was a very nice person. Also, I met two of the daughters who work at the hotel, and they were really nice ladies.

I would say stay at Maria's, but make your own judgement, because everyone sees things differently.

Keep up the good work and continue to make your guests happy and comfortable.

I absolutely loved Old Yarde Inn. They have freshly painted everything, and the workout room was great.

The apartment we had was wonderful! We stayed in Building #4, and everything was new and clean. The property was maintained immaculately, and it was very peaceful and calm. We sat and looked at the ocean from our deck.

Our room was clean and decorated with a simple and modern twist. The food at lunch was superb, too. I would go back again!

Alphonso and Pat are the perfect hosts, and give every effort to making your stay enjoyable and easy! You'll be as sorry to leave them behind as you are the BVI.

The accommodations are comfortable and large - but cozy. Every small touch or extra has been thought of, especially tons of beach towels - which is so useful with the beautiful beaches nearby.

Be sure to see Long Bay's beach!
