It was awesome. Visited: August 2004 Posted by amyadair We had an amazing time in Grand Cayman at the Hyatt. The hotel was very nice and the service was excellent. The only complaint we had about the hotel was that we could hear everything that was said in the next room, even when our neighbors used their normal speaking voices. The restaurants were great and again, the service was very good. We had exceptional servers for lunch at Hemingway's and Brittania. There were also plenty of restaurants within walking distance. One convenient thing we were able to do was to go to the grocery store, a five-minute walk, and pick up some breakfast foods and soft drinks for the room. The resort offered a refrigerator for the room upon request, but we didn't check to see if it was free. We just purchased non-perishables. The conceirge was helpful and friendly. Food was very expensive on the island, because almost everything had to be imported. If you are looking for a cheap vacation, look elsewhere! We did not use Red Sail Sports for our water activities. We did a resort/refresher scuba course off-site and it was half as expensive and so much fun. We highly recommend the Hyatt. We were upgraded to a courtyard view room right when we got there and were not disappointed with the room. We had a high ceiling and a pleasing butter-yellow colored room with crown moulding. Visited: April 2004 Posted by mail2 We stayed at the Hyatt for one week in April and had a really nice time. We chose the Hyatt because we were taking our 13-year-old daughter with us, and we wanted to stay at the Regency Club and get the free continental breakfasts and afternoon appetizers, etc. We felt that this would be much more economical for us and it worked out great. As it turned out, we ended up bringing along our niece, too, and were told prior to coming that only three people (not four) could stay in a room for the Regency Club. We were disappointed, but decided to do the breakfast plan instead. Well, when we arrived, the front desk staff said they were putting us in the Regency afterall! What a perfect arrangement! Every morning, we enjoyed delicious pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, yogart and more! It was wonderful. We sat outside every day and enjoyed our morning meals. In the afternoons, it was free cookies and then hors-doeuvres and drinks in the early evening. It was greeat! It saved us a ton in food bills, which in the Caymans is important since food is so expensive. The Regency Club was located across the street from the beach which actually turned out to be fine. It was a little bit of a walk, but we got used to it and we actually loved the pool on our side of the hotel much more than the beach side. The beach side pool was not as clean looking (looked very sandy from all the beach people) and seemed to be blocked by the sun most of the time. The beach was somewhat small and very crowded with chairs, kind of how a cruise ship looks. I was kind of bothered by this on the first day, but decided that this was probably the biggest drawback. So, we usually grabbed our snorkeling gear and walked up the beach a bit and swam a little further up. Then when we were done at the beach, we would head back to our end of the hotel to our beautiful pool. The grounds at the hotel were absolutely breathtaking, a real tropical paradise. The staff at the hotel was very accommodating and helpful. We were very sad to leave. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Hyatt again. If you want to stay at a beautiful hotel, don't mind a little walk to the beach (actually the walk was quite nice-through a very tropical pathway and a covered overpass over the street) and want the Regency Club or meal plan, then definitely stay at the Hyatt. 4 users found this review helpful. 0 found this review unhelpful. Visited: December 2002 Posted by georgiahank1 We have stayed at several Hyatt resorts and have always been pleased with the amenities and service. The Hyatt Grand Cayman was no exception. We were a little concerned about being across the street from the beach, but the walk was not that bad and they made it as nice as possible. We did miss sitting by the pool and being able to see the beach, but the wonderfully landscaped grounds eased the pain. The pool on the ocean side of the resort was definitely not as nice, but we did enjoy laying out at the beach. The only complaint we had was that the safe in our room did not work. We called repeated times, only to wait for an hour with no one showing up. Someone finally did show up, and after 15 minutes they told us it was broken (duh). I asked them to bring us another safe and they said they would, but we never heard from anyone. I called a couple more times about and then gave up in futility. We ended up using the front desk safe. Also, we walked down to the Westin and were impressed by their beachfront pool. The Hyatt boasted beautiful grounds. Visited: September 2002 Posted by liz_coughlin We stayed during Labor Day weekend. Our room was disappointing and had not yet been redone. When we mentioned it to the front desk, they immediately moved us to the concierge rooms. The concierge was the way to go. The deluxe continental breakfast was perfect for our foursome and the happy hour, along with evening cordials, was equally fine. Though we experienced frequent downpours for that time of year, it didn't stop us from snorkeling at Stingray City (using Sotos) or visiting the turtle farm. The two dinner meals we had were excellent, including the restaurant in front of the Hyatt, which offered great music. We also enjoyed the Lobster Pot, which made a special conch meal for us. Visited: June 2002 Posted by treydz I just returned from my trip to Grand Cayman and really enjoyed my visit! The hotel was definitely one of the top two or three on the island, if not the best. We stayed on the beach side, which I would definitely recommend. When making reservations, you will want to confirm if you are on the beachfront side or not. If not, you will have a bit of a walk from the room to the beach. It will be more expensive to stay on the beachfront side, but the views of the ocean will be amazing and you be extremely close to the beach, two pools, and watersports activities. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was a little pricey for food and drinks, but most everything on Grand Cayman was expensive. The Hyatt offered several restaurants, but I would encourage you to explore some of the other restaurants on the island as well. There was a good variety to choose from. Visited: April 2002 Posted by randy811 I feel that this property is totally overrated. We were extremely disappointed. I found it funny how conveniently Hyatt left out of its brochures how far the beach is from the rooms. Hyatt gave us attention twice on our trip. The first time was when they needed our credit card when checking in. The second time was when they needed our credit card checking out. This place is a totally corporate-run hotel and I think they only cater to business guests. Absolute Paradise Visited: June 2001 Posted by londoj2002 We honeymooned in Grand Cayman and stayed at the Hyatt Regency hotel. This hotel is wonderful. It is beautifully landscaped with an abundant amount of trees, plants, and flowers. The hotel's staff was very helpful and always positive. The hotel offers a few different restaurants, which all serve magnificent food. From everything from the food to the pools and the beach to the service--this hotel exceeded our expectations. Honeymoon Stay Visited: January 2000 Posted by klovell Hyatt is a beautiful hotel property. Service is excellent and rooms are nice. However, if you're staying on your honeymoon don't expect any little extras to welcome you as newlyweds. Also, there isn't much of a social atmosphere (i.e. no happy hour etc...). This is not the place to go dancing and have a few cocktails. The drinks are quite expensive here. The beach is a bit of a walking distance. Did you find this helpful? Beautiful hotel, wonderfully decorated Visited: January 2000 Posted by tiev_98 This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever been to. Hyatt has outdone its self this time, creating a beautiful hotel with a huge pool with a swim up bar and a nice little Jacuzzi. The beach is not directly on the property, you have to walk a while to get to it. Once you get to it, its a nice beach, but there are better beaches on the island. The hotel is quiet with privacy, large suites and a lot of benefits for diamond card members. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to get away from it all.
