The awesome pool-like beach was never crowded, and was always quiet. They had a waiter/waitress on the beach, too - even in the water!
The hotel service was average, I had no complaints. The beds were not really heavenly, and the room was small. Eats Restaraunt across the street was a great spot for more of a varitey of food serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Lonestar was perfect for all-you-can-eat Fajitas on Tuesdays, and Deckers offered all-you-can-eat lobster tails on Wedensdays. It was pricy, but well worth it if you love lobster. The Westin's breakfast buffet was very good. Caymans was expensive, so be aware.
My eight-year-old and 16-year-old both had a great time going to Stingray City, and Rum Pointe is a must. Do the Red Sail Sunset cruise. Georgetown was okay, just time it when the cruise ships are not in. The cruise passengers crowded the streets.
Overall, we loved it. I think the Westin had the best beach for all ages. We are going back again this July 2007. |

My wife, the kids and I stayed at the Westin last year. Everything about this place was great, but it was pricey.
If you are looking for a beautiful beach; and very nice, clean rooms, you can't go wrong here.
The restaraunt across the street was our favorite place to eat. |

The best part of this resort was the very agreeable beachfront courtyard offering two hot tubs and a nicely designed pool, as well as ample room to stretch out on comfortable patio recliners.
Large towels were issued for all guests to use on the private beach, and all-day servers were availble to bring you drinks and snacks by the pool or on the beach.
We enjoyed fun live music (Calypso style) on one of five evenings, and there was a well-staffed Red Sail Sports full-service kiosk for anyone wanting to schedule or depart on a watersports or fishing tour.
There was also a nice reef area just a little bit offshore for snorkeling--we saw stingrays and a small shark, as well as other beautiful marine life.
There was one very knowledgable concierge who pointed us in all the right directions and helped us with scheduling bicycles and selecting satisfying restaurants and cafes.
The breakfast menu at Ferdinand's in the hotel was pretty good, but the coffee was awful, and some of the breakfast staff were zoned out.
The affiliated Hibiscus Spa was a nice treat--albeit too expensive, and we're used to Washington, DC prices.
Also, the hotel was a ways from George Town for shopping and many restaurants, so you have to walk, ride a bike, or rent a scooter/car to get to stuff, because otherwise you'll be bled dry in cab fares.
This would not be a place to stay if you are looking for anything like an authentic taste of island life, but it is great if you want efficient luxury, a knowledgable international staff, and a first-rate beach.

We just returned from a stay at the Westin Casuarina Resort in Grand Cayman August 2004. It was a beautiful hotel with great sunset views.
The rooms were spacious, and the beds were absolutely heavenly!
Casa Havana had excellent food and a great view. The grounds were immaculate with a huge pool and swim up bar. Also, the beach was one of the largest on Seven Mile with plenty of chairs for everyone.
Beach and lobby bartenders Dawn and David were the best! Every employee we encountered was very friendly.
We would definitely stay here again. |

I am a very picky traveler, frequently staying at very nice hotels for business (e.g,. Four Seasons, Ritz Carleton, W Hotels, Peninsula, etc.). While this property was not up to those levels, it was more than adequate -- very nice indeed.
The spa was truly exceptional -- my wife was there for a treatment every day and raved about it. The resort was on one of the nicest spots on the beach -right in the middle of Seven Mile Beach. The Hyatt, which was at the far end of the beach toward the airport was located across the main thoroughfare, and had a much more crowded beach scene (it was packed!). It seemed far less desireable as a result.
The Westin's pool facilities, restaurants, service, etc. were all very good. While not cheap, you don't get high quality in the Caribbean for nothing. It was no bargain, but would be more than adequate even for most picky Manhattanites. The standard rooms were not spacious, but you don't spend much time there anyway except for sleeping, and the beds were 'heavenly'.
The staff was very friendly, helpful and was good at following up on requests. Not a business-friendly hotel due to lousy phone connections (typical in the Caribbean) and there was no high speed internet service -- I suppose I should have left my PC at home, but that's hard to do these days.
Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely go back. Grand Cayman is a 'high end' island, is very safe, beautiful, with friendly locals and good food and wine. If you're prepared to spend without going totally crazy, this is a good place to do it. |

It was our first trip to Grand Cayman, but we have visited many of the other area islands. The hotel accommodations were very nice and we had a fabulous view. I had read from a previous visitor to ask for fifth floor oceanfront - and we did.
The pool was beautiful and the beach was lovely. The restaurants were good - but pretty pricy. I would suggest going just across the street to Eat's Place for a very good and much less expensive breakfast as well as lunch.
We did not rent a car and didn't mind a little walking, so we really loved Edorado's, which was located in the Coconut Place shopping area just up the road toward Georgetown. They had an arugula salad that was magnificent - toasted walnuts, grapes, cheese and a wonderful hazelnut oil dressing. We ate there several times and enjoyed the food.
Be sure to do a tour to Stingray City. We took an afternoon excursion. I'm not a real water person and this was great. The water was only about chest deep and the stringrays were wonderful. Even if you never entered the water, it would be worth the cost.
We would definitely consider returning and would not hesitate to stay again at the Westin. I was disappointed in downtown Georgetown. It was exactly like Nassau, Aruba, St. Thomas or any of those ports. There was tons of jewelry and watches, t-shirts and cheap stuff. Why don't any of these places encourage native and local crafts? I love to buy things made by the locals. |

I visited Grand Cayman and stayed at the Westin for five nights using Starwood guest points, so my entire stay was free - quite a bargain!
I travel quite a bit for my job, staying at four- and five-star hotels around the country, and also used to work for a resort in the Caribbean. In my experience, a hotel rated four stars in the Caribbean would only be a three-star property in the US mainland. The Westin in Grand Cayman fit this model, at least in some areas.
The Westin seemed to have the same problem as most air-conditioned hotels in the Caribbean, that being a musty or damp feeling in the rooms that never goes away, unless the AC is cranked down to almost unbearably cold degrees.
My room was beautiful (and right on the beach!), but it took me a while to get the right combination of the AC and ceiling fan to make it comfortable.
The decor of the lobby, rooms, and restaurants was very nice, but the hallways didn't seem to match, and were in need a bit of updating, as did the guest room bathrooms.
I will say that the beach, pool and spa were terrific - which were the main reasons to go to the Caribbean anyway. The service at the Westin was very good, and always very friendly.
I agree with some other reviews that Grand Cayman felt less "authentic Caribbean" than other islands, especially along Seven Mile Beach.
I recommend renting a car for at least a day to drive around the island and get away from the tourist areas. Rum Point, the Botanical Gardens and Pedro St. James were nice attractions to visit, and the turtle farm was pretty neat, too!
I also noted that the music selections on a catamaran sail as well as the Westin pool and restaurants were mostly American top 40 stuff - not very atmospheric. Also, as everyone noted, Cayman was expensive, and seemed to be proud of it.
Overall, I had a great experience, but I will try other islands before going back to Grand Cayman. |

We stayed at the Westin the first week in June of 2003. I would recommend a room on either the fifth floor to get a great unobstructed view or on the first floor to have easy access to the beach.
Check-in was smooth and simple with no surprises. The resort was only about ten minutes from the airport so once we landed, we were at the hotel within one hour!
We visited most of the big hotels on Seven Mile Beach and the Westin had the best beach without question. The resort itself was relatively small, but the other big hotels were within a half hour walk of the Westin, so getting some exercise / sightseeing was no problem. The Hyatt, in particular, had beautiful grounds and was very expansive.
We took tours to Stingray Sandbar, Rum Point and Georgetown. You can catch the ferry to Rum Point at the Hyatt for $30, round trip.
We found the hotel to be first-class, the Westin restaurants to be exquisite and the room-service to be prompt.
We also ate at several places off the resort...Lobster Pot, The Wharf, Reef Grill and Eduardos. Round trip cab fare to these places was $20 - $25. As other have said, expect to pay $125 - $150 for a nice dinner in Cayman.
Finally, do not be afraid to visit the mall directly across the street. We ate at Eat's a couple of times and booked a tour through Captain Marvin's. We also bought water and snacks at Big Daddy's.
We had a great (and expensive) time!

We just got back from our honeymoon in Grand Cayman. It was just perfect. It was 85-90 degrees every day and not a drop of rain.
The Westin was wonderful. Our spotless ocean front room looked right out onto the beach. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us - both on the beach and inside the hotel.
The beach was clean and powdery, and the water was so clear. We really relaxed and felt as if we were a million miles away from home. We drove around the island one day and the Westin really did have the most beautiful beach.
And, the location couldn't be beat. We were quite close to a number of amazing restaurants. Be sure to eat at Pappagallos, Smugglers Cove, The Reef Grill and The Lighthouse. We didn't find the food to be any more expensive than a meal in a great restaurant at home. Also, be sure to go to the Stingray Sandbar. It was an amazing time. |

We stayed at the Westin in the fall of 2002. It was our first trip to Grand Cayman. I was aware that the island was expensive. The Westin was no exception, but I stayed on the shoulder season so that rates were not as expensive as the on season.
There were places on the island where you could find relatively inexpensive meals, but for dinner (at least a nice one), expect to pay around $20 for just the entree. I do not drink alcohol, so this did not break my budget. Alcohol would surely add money to a meal.
The room at the Westin was very nice. The housekeeping staff did a great job every day. The doormen were always friendly and ready to assist at all times. Check in and check out were a breeze.
I would stay here again if the price was right. It was on Seven Mile Beach, so dining and shopping were nearby. The beach was quite nice, but if you can, be sure to explore the island for even better locales. Get handouts at the airport to show you the great diving and snorkeling areas that can be accessed from the shoreline. Enjoy! |

We just returned from seven days at Westin Casuarina on Grand Cayman. We enjoyed our stay, but probably will not return and will never stay at The Westin again.
Grand Cayman has less Caribbean flavor than other islands we visited (Jamaica, St Maarten, Bahamas, Aruba). I think that since Grand Cayman has other industries besides tourism (banking and diving), the level of service was poor. The majority of service people are students on break from Canada, Australia, etc., therefore, they do not have same attitudes or commitment as career service professionals on the other islands I’ve visited.
Food and services are considerably more expensive at Cayman Islands than other islands due to differences in local economies. Thus it’s understandable that Westin’s drinks were expensive ($10 US+tip). These drinks were very good and we drank our share ($200 the 1st day). We were chastised by our server on 2nd day for bringing our small six-pack cooler with water and snacks to the beach. I did not see this policy in any Westin literature. The rest of the week we felt uncomfortable bringing our own water to the beach. We were not allowed to run a tab each day, so we had to sign a check after each drink, sandwich, or bottle of water, which I believe was to maximize gratuities. It was obvious that the college student servers were motivated only by gratuities. It was understandable that the servers were interested in generating sales to maximize income, but we have never had this problem on any other island.
The Westin restaurant was closed during our stay, but the food at the Wharf, The Lobster Pot, and The Reef Grill was excellent. We paid in excess of $125 for each meal without drinks, but the food was excellent.
We took a sunset cruise on a catamaran, but unlike in Aruba, Jamaica, St Maarten, and Bahamas, they played disco or pop music instead of traditional Caribbean island music.
Looking back, it is almost as if Grand Cayman tries to remind visitors that it is “better” than other Caribbean islands since it has industries other than tourism and does not have to be stereotypically Caribbean. Ironically, that is why I go to the Caribbean.
Grand Cayman is beautiful, but so are other islands and the atmosphere and service are better. I don’t see the benefit of the extra cost.

A great place for a relaxing honeymoon. Visited: June 2002 |

I did tons of research on the Caymans before picking the perfect hotel. Well, we picked it right. The Westin was definitely the best place to stay on Seven Mile Beach.
It had a beautiful beach, as most of the other hotels were either not on the beach or their beach was small. The rooms were adequate. They were not the best amenities, but good. The one thing I recommend when making a reservation, is to make sure you ask for a high floor if looking for an ocean view/front room, because the palm trees were very tall and blocked a lot of the views.
We never ate at the hotel. For breakfast we ate at Eats, which was right across the street, every day for 10 days! Eduardos was a great Italian restaurant within walking distance and there were many other restaurants that you could walk to as well.
It was very expensive on this island. You bring $1,000 and it is automatically worth $800. Drinks on the beach were $8.50 Cayman, which was $10+ US. Bring lots of money! Overall, this was a wonderful place to stay and I would highly recommend this hotel over any other hotel on Seven Mile Beach. |

We just got back from a wonderful six-day stay at the Westin Casuarina. After the many weeks of stress and planning, it was the perfect vacation following our wedding weekend.
We spent most of the days sleeping late. Our room off the beach was very quiet. There were a lot of families and kids also staying at the hotel, but that didn't bother us. We'd spend most of the day either reading or swimming at the beach or sitting by the pool. Both were first rate.
You could walk a few minutes down the road and have wonderful Italian, Indian, Seafood, etc. There was also a grocery store/pharmacy down the road. I suggest buying your water bottles from the store rather than the hotel and saving your money for the 'wave-runners'. They rented them on the hotel's beach - it was expensive, but a lot of fun.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a top-notch, romantic and relaxing honeymoon, especially if you don't want - or have - the time to spend on a plane going to some distant shore. |

The Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa was wonderful.
Everyone from the front desk staff to the housekeepers were very friendly. The concierge helped my fiancee and me get around this beautiful island.
Casa Havana was a delight. We also ate at several other places, such as the Grand Old House and the best restaurant on the island - Ottmar's. Their happy hour on Fridays is great!
The beach was to die for - a real treat. Overall, it was the best experience (athough a bit expensive). |

My boyfriend and I just got back from a 5-day/4-night stay at the Westin and we can't say enough nice things about it and the Island. I have traveled through the Caribbean many times, but this was my first time to Grand Cayman. Needless to say, we will be coming back next November.
The people at the hotel were helpful and friendly. We felt very safe on the island walking around. The restaurants were superb; you must try Smugglers Cove! We took a 5-mile walk up the beach towards Georgetown and checked out other hotels on the beach and there was no comparison to the Westin.
The Westin is definitely First Class! It’s a very romantic island, too, so leave the kids at home.

My wife and I were engaged at The Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa. We have been back numerous times since.
The hotel upgraded us to an oceanfront room from our usual oceanview room. This was great, as we were only a few short steps from the Westin's fabulous beach. We spent our days relaxing on the beach and our nights enjoying Cayman Island's wonderful food establishments.
I would refer anyone to this hotel, as it was great. Spring for the oceanview or oceanfront rooms because the resort view rooms are facing the parking lot. And while you are there, try the Mango Daiquiris - they are the best.

The Westin was a great, relaxing place to stay. The rooms are a good size with a decent balcony. We checked out all the other hotels and there really is no comparison on 7 mile beach. The drinks at the Westin are cold(and expensive) and the pool and beach are beautiful. I definitely would recommend it, if you can afford it. |

This was our third visit to this romantic getaway. We seem to enjoy going there more and more each time. This island is a little more expensive than other ones, but the safe feeling, friendliness and politeness found everywhere is worth it. The service in the hotel is great and the grounds are kept clean.
We strongly recommend Westin Casuarina as one of the world's best destinations. We will be going back as soon as we can.
