Southern Cross Club, Little Cayman traveler review

It was unbelievable. Visited: February 2007
Posted by wally
The Southern Cross CLub might not be for everyone, but to me and my family it is the ideal vacation.

The resort had 12 or 13 beach bungalows on a huge beach. It was not a swimming beach (there was turtle grass in the water), but a beautiful deserted swimming beach could be found on uninhabited Owen island about 300 yards off shore from the resort.

Southern Cross had bikes and kayaks that were free, so we could explore the island at our leisure. However, I did not have much leisure time. I dived every morning (2-tanks), and fished with the resort's guide almost every afternoon. It was awesome.

The part that was so amazing for me was that the resort was on a little remote island in the Caribbean (Little Cayman only has about 100 people living there full time), but they still had great food, high speed internet, a spa, and all the amenities. It ws like Robinson Crusoe with a all the luxuries of the Ritz.

If you need night clubs, fancy resaurants, and glitz, go to Seven Mile Beach. If you want barefoot luxury (Southern Cross's mantle, not mine), go to Little Cayman and the Southern Cross Club.

Little Cayman Beach Resort, Little Cayman traveler review

Divers will love this place. Visited: August 2006
Posted by peggy_ca
We have been to many places that cater to divers: Cozumel, Roatan, Bonaire, Bahamas and more. This was our favorite.

If you don't dive, you probably won't enjoy coming to Little Cayman Beach Resort. There isn't much else to do besides lay by the pool or in a hammock on the "beach" (not much of one).

If you do dive, you will love it. The diving is easy; the sealife is plentiful; the visibility is unbelievable; and the reef is healthy.

The ambiance here is really good, too. You eat in a large dining room with the other guests. You can choose to eat alone, or with other people. By the end of the week, you'll know many of the other guests, and eating with them is half the fun. We had a blast.

The picture of the pool is not a picture of Little Cayman Beach Resort's pool. It is a picture of the pool at the condos next door. Just an FYI. The pool here actually looks better than that one, in my opinion. And, the bar is very close by and open all day.

This was absolute barefoot paradise! Visited: March 2005

My husband and I hate big, crowded commercial resorts but have noticed that you typically trade creature comforts and amenities when you go the boutique route. That was not so here!

The Southern Cross Club was nestled on 900 feet of a white sand, palm- lined beach. On this large stretch of land, it had just 13 airy, well appointed bungalows. All had 180 degree ocean views, large porches, air conditioning and outdoor showers. The club also had a seaside min-spa, kayaking opportunities, deep sea fishing and outstanding diving.

What was additionally suprising, was that it had its own club-front pier and diveboats. So there were no shuttles, long waits for equipment, or crowded boat rides. The club was also conveniently located by Bloody Bay Wall, one of the "holy grails" of the dive world.

The food was also outstanding - very fresh, tasty and tropical.

Overall, the pristine, unpretentious beauty of the resort and the marine life will linger with you long after your stay... and beckon you back for many return visits.

Conch Club Condominiums, Little Cayman traveler review

The Conch Club was absolutely fantastic, tranquil and relaxed. Visited: August 2004
Posted by dnehoneymoon
My wife and I had the opportunity to stay at the Conch Club Condos in August 2004 and thought it was wonderful. We travel sometimes two to three times a year and found Conch Club to be a "home away from home" with friendly staff. We couldn't help but relax and feel at home.

We also did a dive with Tim at Conch Club Divers on their very spacious luxurious dive boat. The uncrowded boats and helpful staff let us enjoy our dives in one of the best dive destinations in the world. It really helped us the way they brought our equipment to us. All we had to do was step off the back. It was fantastic!

We are already looking to book again next year.

Southern Cross Club, Little Cayman traveler review

Laid-back luxury meets diving bliss at Southern Cross Club. Visited: October 2003
Posted by michelejoyce
Southern Cross Club was my Caribbean vacation ideal. It was uncommercialized barefoot elegance set in a pristinely natural setting.

There were only 12 or 13 bungalows, all beautifully appointed. We experienced much more more marine life than human life! The resort was set along a long a stretch of beautiful white sand beach speckled with groups of swinging cloth hammocks.

The resort's laid-back luxury comforted in a subtle way that easily let us relax into the slow rhythms of island life almost immediately.

The staff was sincere and accommodating without being intrusive, and the food was fresh and delicious, without being rich. And the diving~ superlative! Bloody Bay Wall was accessible to expert and amateur divers alike as it began in as little as 15 feet and in some places~ dropped off to oblivion.

Also, it was literally crammed with sealife - four-foot barracudas, morays, sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, reef sharks, and endless coral gardens ~all in about 150 foot visability.

This was the kind of vacation that will linger in my memory long after my visit.

Guana Island, Little Cayman traveler review

An outstanding place to really get away from it all. Visited: June 2003
Posted by rgzu
We chose Guana Island for our honeymoon, and could not have been happier. After our first ten minutes on beautiful White Bay Beach, we knew we picked the right spot.

The service, the food, and the accommodations were all superb. The island was peaceful and beautiful. There was an abundance of wildlife to add to the experience. We really enjoyed the abundance and variety of birds. The rock iguanas were rather impressive as well.

It felt more like a retreat than a resort. Here, you go at your own pace. The resort managers, Bridgit and Roger, could not have been nicer. We felt we made some friends on Guana.

Southern Cross Club, Little Cayman traveler review

Paradise with exquisite service. Visited: September 2002

Wow! This was the perfect place to get away from it all and to relax. The cottages were sprinkled across the beautiful beach - no overcrowded feeling here!

The staff was so friendly and all knew us by name and did all they could to make it a perfect get away.

The rooms were spacious, clean and had the most beautiful views.

The diving was beyond explanation, beyond imagination! The dive masters were all very friendly, knowledgeable, and lots of fun. I was concerned that as a newly certified diver, the dives might be overwhelming. This was not the case at all, and the dive team lended that extra attention and advice to my husband and me which eased away any nervousness that was there.

The food was great! Everything was very fresh and full of flavor.

There were kayaks and bikes that you could go exploring on. There was a fishing guide for fishing trips. We utilized all of these and enjoyed each. Our favorite was kayaking out to Owen island, just off shore, and snorkeling away the afternoons.

We can't wait until another chance to return.

Southern Cross Club, Little Cayman traveler review

The best place to stay in the Caymans! Visited: May 2001
Posted by diverdowndp
My wife and I have gone to Southern Cross Club annually over the last five years and absolutely love it!

The accommodations are spacious bungalows built directly on their white sand beach. You can be literally 20 feet from the water's edge (all units are air conditioned).

The meals are always included and always great. I'm still savoring the pepper crusted mahi we had during our last visit!

The dive program is fantastic with two boats, five dive masters and very small groups on board (6-8 usually). My wife is not a diver, so she typically spends her mornings on Owen Island; a small deserted island about 1/4 mile from the club with the best swimming beach on Little Cayman. She kayaks over with a small cooler of fruit and drinks provided by the club and sets up her "day camp" for reading, sunning, and relaxing.

Afternoons we typically fish, kayak, snorkel, bike, or just relax in the many hammocks along their beach. Southern Cross Club is one of the only vacations I go on where I come back truly relaxed, refreshed, and ready to work again. That's why we keep going back!

Excellent getaway from it all. Visited: November 2000

This was a wonderful resort with nice people. We had three wonderful meals provided daily, all of which were excellent. Diving was phenomenal. If you don't mind not having casinos, phones and bright lights, then this is the place for you! We would go back in a minute!

Pirate's Point Resort, Little Cayman traveler review

Great place to go diving, with a wonderful dive support team. Visited: July 2001
Posted by ser49
I've gone to Pirate’s Point for two years in a row and recommend it if you love to dive and relax. Gladys is warm and does all that she can to make everyone feel at home.

The food is the best I've had at a “food-included resort.” However, if you don't dive this can be a difficult vacation because there really isn't any other form of recreation unless you bicycle around the island. In the summer (when I've gone to Pirate’s Point), it has been hot and humid) and without a doubt there are an abundance of biting bugs at night, so don't hold back on the repellent.

The cottages are comfortable and four are air conditioned. My personal favorites are in the D complex. They are large and airy with that great ocean sound.

Again let me say that the diving team is fabulous. If you are a beginner or have recently been certified, ask for Martha to give you a refresher. She is a natural diver and teacher. You will love every minute. And the views below are spectacular. The only thing I hated about my last dive vacation there was the trip home. It’s a hard routine to leave: eat breakfast, dive 2 dives, eat lunch, sleep in one of the Pawley’s Island hammocks, eat dinner and go to bed. Next day, do it all over again. This is a wonderful vacation.

Guana Island, Little Cayman traveler review

I'd go back in a flash!
Posted by ATraveler
A wonderfully quiet retreat - no tv's, no nightlife but excellent food and service. Everything's included except beverages and any side excursions, and I especially liked the no-tipping policy and the beautiful private beach.

Cottages are hillside and not beachfront, dinners are family style, although you can request private dining. There are many repeat customers who love the quiet solitude of the place.

Not recommended for families with young children or those looking for any kind of nightlife. Highly recommended for anyone who truly wants to get away from it all.
