This is a very friendly place to stay. Visited: October 2005

My partner and I stayed at the Hilton for two weeks, and were particularly impressed with the friendly atmosphere. Overall it is not yet quite up to the Hilton standard here in Europe, but the rooms were clean and staff was exceptionally friendly.

Check-in was quick, barely giving us enough time to drink the served welcome drink. We were given a room on the second floor with a spectacular view (right in line with the beach). Unfortunately, it also had a very moldy smell and was very damp, which during the first night proved unbearable, as I am very allergic to dust mites. Also, it turned out the room had no hot water. However, when we complained the following morning, we were quickly given another room with hot water and no smell.

The breakfast buffet was great, and staff during the week was very attentive. Unfortunately this is not true for the staff during the weekends. We did not manage to get any coffee during the two weekends we were here.

We were not so impressed with the food at the Cielo restaurant, although it was okay. Entertainment was great, though. The service here was lacking somewhat, and the quality of the food was not quite what we expected. The strawberry smoothies from the beach bar, however, quickly became very popular with us.

The grounds, pools and beaches were fantastic! We preferred the Parasasa Beach, but both beaches had plenty of loungers. The adult pool was just amazing, and at times we would be the only ones there. Although, be aware that the pool functions more or less as a public pool, open for anyone to buy a day ticket (although many did not bother paying), which we are all for. But it did mean that it can get very rowdy during the weekend.

As we were here for two weeks, we hired a car from Budget for the second week. It is possible to walk to places like Willemstad from the hotel, but it takes about an hour because of the heat. If you have to take a taxi, Mrs. Amorella is great. She can usually be found in her white mini-van in the parking lot. I would publish her telephone number, but I'm not sure she would want me to.

We had a fantastic time driving around the island. Christoffel Park, the Ostrich Farm, the flamingo area and Boca Table were not to be missed.

All in all, we had a great time on the island, and can recommend the Hilton even if there is room for improvement.

The Hilton Cuacao is a family-friendly hotel. Visited: July 2004

We just returned from a week at the Hilton. After reading some of the reviews, I was a little concerned, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Hilton. My husband and I took our ten-month-old baby.

The hotel was beautiful. Most of the hotel has gone through a renovation. Some of the surrounding buildings haven't yet, and were in need of some repairs.

The beaches and pools were great! It was obvious that they take great pride in their pool areas and kept the beaches clean. We used the kiddie pool a lot, and loved every minute of it.

Most of the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

I only have one complaint. I am a diamond Hilton member, and received free breakfast every day, but no one at check-in informed me of this. I had to go and ask them on the first day.

The breakfast buffet was great and had something for everyone. Even if it wasn't free, we probably would have paid for it anyway. I also received free drinks, but again I was the one to ask about these.

The hotel was family friendly. As I stated earlier, they had a great kiddie pool. I was surprised as to how many small kids there were here. The staff seemed to really enjoy and cater to the kids, too.

This hotel, with planned upgrades, has a 4-5 star potential. Visited: January 2004

My wife and I stayed for five weeks at the Lanais (Hilton run timeshare units) that were literally 20 yards from one of the finest snorkeling beaches on the island (the view from the veranda, morning trupials singing, gorgeous sunsets!!). We were celebrating my retirement and brought our sons and their wives, along with our daughter over the Christmas/ New Years week. They all had to leave on January third to go back to work (heh, heh), but we stayed on and continued to enjoy the most relaxing and sunfilled vacation of our lives.

There is no denying some of the other reviewers indications that the property and infrastructure is badly in need of a facelift, but you use a hotel room primarily to bathe and sleep in. Expect significant rate hikes when the renovations are complete over the next year or two.

The Lanais beach actually had Marriot guests crossing the water to use it.

The Hilton staff was very friendly, professional, and competent and knew all of us by name. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The Hilton definitely needs sprucing up. Visited: December 2003

We just returned from an eight-day stay at the Hilton Curacao.

First the good:
The amenities were great, and the beach was very nice - guests could snorkel right off the beach. Also, the happy hour each day at the bar was fun, the bartenders tried hard to serve up good drinks.

The fitness center was above average with a good amount of cardio machines that actually worked. I did not use their Spa facilities, but they offered quite a few treatments at reasonable prices.

The improvements needed to come in the areas of food - we ate here twice and it was really poor. The GM here seemed to be working hard to make the place a destination worth coming back to, but the property was showing its age.

We had no hot water the entire time we were here; apparently they were at 100% occupancy and they could not handle having hot water if the hotel was over 50% full. While the staff was nice and did try to please, this place could be a great spot if they invested money here.

As far as the rooms, we had a suite (they had only two) and it was big, but it had no privacy. We brought our 13-year-old son and were told when we booked the hotel that they would be putting a wall up to separate the bedrooom from the living room area.

The island would be great if you are a diver or snorkeling fan, they had some of the best beaches I have seen.

I was a total beach bum! Visited: February 2003
Posted by kim_young
After a relaxing week at the Sheraton Curacao (soon to be Hilton), you, too, can be a successful beach bum. It was so easy - two beaches - one with a sandy bottom, one with great snorkeling, a giant pool, and the wonderful Beach Baar (sic) in between.

Astrid, Sandra, and Soukila took great care of me! Unlike the St. Thomas horror stories, there was no fighting over prime beach chairs and real estate here. It was not so crowded, definitely laid back. The climate was like the Kona Coast of Hawaii, but for an East Coast girl, a lot closer.

The lobby was open air, no one frowned if I went barefoot, and the welcome drink was 'virgin' but tasted like a full-bodied tropical rumfest.

My Oscar-winning performance as a beach bum was aided by Mother Nature (a blizzard prevented my timely return to civilization), and the Sheraton was wonderful. After my package deal expired, they gave me a great rate, did my laundry, and found the beach cover-up I left behind the first time I tried to check out.

As my four-night vacation extended to a week, I went to a great beach BBQ (you just have to get used to having BBQ sauces served 'on the side'), a manager's cocktail party (open bar for an hour), saw pre-Carnival folk dancing, and managed to break even in the small, easy-going casino.

Everyone on the staff was very friendly and fluent in English. The dive shop had interesting trips every day and rented equipment in between - multitudes of fish, urchins and crabs at the 'other' beach, back side of the dive shop. Taber Tours, an island staple, had a person on-site in the a.m. and usually had a placard with Tomorrow's Tours and a phone number to call in case you missed the am person.

If you don't want to rent a car: taxis and pick-up/drop-off day trips (the Seaquarium) are easy to arrange. There's also free twice-daily shuttles to downtown for shopping and museums. I'm hoping the new owners, the Hilton, don't screw up this gem when they move in March 5th.

Beautiful beach, but the hotel and staff needs improving. Visited: September 2002
Posted by ktoth1993
We spent 8 nights at the Sheraton. Their private beach is one of the best at any of the hotels on the island and they have an incredible pool, but the hospitality of the staff needs much improvement. I suggest that the staff takes a hospitality course.

Our 7th day there, the same front desk people didn't recognized us and asked if we were guests. We'd spoken to, acknowledged and said hello to them everyday, a few times a day! How insulting, especially since the hotel was deserted. At times we felt unwelcome! We're not demanding type of people, but everything was a struggle. Other hotels treated us like royalty, even knowing that we were not guests!

The oceanview was great, but the room needed updating as well as the landscaping. The miniature golf course was rundown with lots of weeds and they expected a fee to play, the lighted tennis courts for night playing didn't work, the one and only hot tub didn't work either.

Sitting by the pool, no waiter/waitress approached us. We had to go to the bar for your own drinks. Happy Hour was misleading, 2 for 1 (between 6pm-7pm) meant drinks were half price. So if you bought one drink and expected the next one free, you were wrong. If you wanted your second drink after 7 pm, you were charged full price. Plus you had to check your bill due to constant mistakes. All meals (and drinks) were extremely expensive and for an al a Carte menu, there were only two restaurants to choose from. This is a nice hotel, but not the 4-star resort that we expected.

It was my first trip to the Caribbean - what a beautiful island!

The hotel was beautiful, it had everything I needed. There was no need to go anywhere else.

I can't wait to go back this summer.

The best vacation we've ever had! Visited: April 2001
Posted by gtpharbor
This was the best vacation we have ever had. The hotel had everything we needed—a wonderful beach for snorkeling and a dive shop for our private scuba lesson. BBQ on the beach was the only place we ate twice, and that was because they only did it on Sunday and Thursday, or we would have eaten there more often.

The spa was excellent. I had a soothing aroma bath for my sunburn with soft music and candles while looking out the window at the ocean, is that perfect or what? My husband had a massage, which he said was great. We arranged our jeep safari at the desk. We also went to the casino a couple of times and walked on a landscaped and well-lit sidewalk to the Marriott next door for two very nice meals.

The view at the Sheraton was lovely; you could see down the coast and are located right on Piscadara Bay. We will go back, it was perfect!

We had a great time here. Visited: January 2000

We stayed at the Sheraton Curacao and had a great time. We had no problems with communicating as English, (as well as Dutch and Papeamentau) seem to be spoken by everybody.

The snorkeling off various beaches was great, and the beach right in front of the hotel was really good for the kids (gently sloped and protected from the waves). One of the pools was closed, but the other three were very clean and never crowded.

The food we found a bit overpriced and the service, although attentive, was usually very slow. The beach BBQ was really the best meal we had at the hotel. Looking back, we should have eaten most of our meals at the "beach bar." It was quicker and was a better value.

Our room overlooked the sea and we watched great sunsets from the balcony. The room was cleaned very well, and staff very pleasant. Everything worked and was clean—just the way it should be.

The Dive shop onsite had its own dive boat and was well equipped. There was also another dive shop not far down the beach. The fitness facility was well equipped, too, and the staff was very pleasant.

We did not see much for "daily programs" going on, although we did not plan on participating anyway. There are two car rental counters in the hotel as well as a tour company, and they all seemed to be staffed 9am-5pm everyday! Overall, this was a great place to take a seven and 4 year-old (not to mention Mom & Dad) for some sun and relaxation.
