This is not really a hotel, run by dishonest people. Visited: July 2004 |

This past summer, I got married in Dominica. Almost our entire wedding party was booked into this "hotel." We found quickly that it is not a hotel at all, in the accepted sense. There was bat guano on the walls, the plumbing was not working, there were cockroaches in some of the rooms and the air conditioning was very inconsistent. The proprietors had opened the hotel just for us. It is a beautiful setting, but that was all it had to offer. Well, the Dominican staff were very friendly as well.
The proprietors are dishonest people. They overcharged some of the guests. They also tried to charge my husband and me for nights we were not even on the island, because our bags were in one of the rooms and they said they had had to turn people away. Clearly, this was a falsehood, as the hotel had not been open before we arrived and there was no plumbing. I said that they ought to have told us that this would be their policy; we would simply have stored our bags elsewhere. In addition, they tacked on quite high service fees to all meals, and we discovered that they pocket the money and do not pass any of it on to the servers. Also, we had brought in our own decorations for the rooms and several partiessilk lanterns from Asia, hand-painted Chinese scrolls, hand-made masksand they stole them, quite baldly. They actually took boxes of our things and hid them away.
The island is beautiful, but do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. |

I suggest you stay away from here. Visited: July 2004 |

My wife and I stayed here with 20 other guests in our wedding party.
We were charged for three additional nights that we did not stay. When I refused to pay, the owner called the police.
In addition, there was no running water and the rooms were filthy. |

Layou River Hotel is the place to stay! Visited: May 2001 |

We stayed at this hotel twice, and found it to be one of the best on the island.
The location was great (away from all the bustle). It had a tropical surrounding with it's own river. The food was also very good. The owners and staff were pleasant. In addition, the air conditioned rooms were large and very clean.
We can't wait to get back to Layou! |

Beautiful location, great family value Visited: March 2001 |

My husband and two children (ages 5 and 9) stayed here for a 4-day "long weekend." The setting was very beautiful, in a lush tropical forest, and right on the river. We had two rooms with a connecting door, television, balcony with lovely view of the Layou River.
The hotel has a great pool and a well maintained garden. The location was quite convenient, being only 15-20 minute ride to town by car, and 5-10 minute drive from the beach and 15 minutes from the Emerald Pool.
The food was not great (Western menu), but we ordered Chinese on our last night and it was fantastic. The rooms were spartan, but very, very clean. This is a great location, very quiet and peaceful. The Taiwanese owners were very friendly and wanted to please as best they could.
