Roseau Valley is charming. Visited: May 2007 |

This is a charming hotel in a quiet rural setting. It is just two miles from Roseau on the way to the main natural attractions. It is also run by very pleasant people who are anxious to please.
Meals here are generous and fairly priced. Dinners are based on what's fresh that day, not off a fixed menu.
Some rooms come with balconies, but there is also a very large and comfortable common veranda. |

This must be the jewel of the nature island Visited: May 2007 |

If you go to Dominica, try to stay at the Roseau Valley Inn, nestled in a wooded valley about ten minutes above the captial.
The area is not exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to accommodation, and this is a jewel.
So, too, are owner/manager Patsy and her husband Hugh - who can't do enough for you. Patsy is very knowledgable about her 'nature island' and fixed up some tours for us which were exactly what we wanted.
You can swim in the Roseau River at the bottom of the garden, which has both cool deep pools and mini rocky rapids for your own natural jacuzzi.
Patsy cooks what she calls 'plain, unadulterated West Indian food', but it's healthy and delicious, and better than the meal we had in one of the top restaurants in the capital. |

If you seek a genuine experience of the island – this is the place to stay.
Patsy and Hugh, the lovely couple who own the hotel, can answer all your questions about how it is to live on this island. I appreciated very much the interesting evening talks sitting on the porch with them.
The food was excellent; it was home-cooked and very tasty. A couple of minutes up the valley road, you find Screw’s spa where you can take hot baths in the rain forest. It was very relaxing and soothing for the soul. Be sure not to miss that.
The rooms had a nice view of the valley. The hot water in the hotel was produced by solar energy, good for the environment. The hotel was situated close to the trails up to Boiling Lake and Titou Gorge.
I will definitely be back here someday!

Don't be fooled by Roseau Valley Hotel. Visited: December 2005 |

If you’re like me and you rely heavily on the Internet to find somewhere to stay during your trips, please do not be fooled by the pictures and information provided on the Roseau Valley Hotel web site if you plan to visit Dominica. I just returned from Dominica with a friend, and to say that the web site offers a skewed view of this facility would be a gross understatement.
My friend and I reserved a supposedly self-contained studio for two-four people. What we found was a room with severely limited kitchen facilities and neither phone nor TV as promised on the web site. The web site was obviously designed with great lengths to exaggerate the size of the “hotel” rooms and its location. Contrary to the impression conveyed on the web site, the “hotel” is located right next to a heavily-used mountain road, and hence takes in all of the street noises even at late hours of the night.
We would have been less annoyed by this, had the kitchen facilities not been so glaringly lacking; while finding a room with a fully-stocked kitchenette was a priority for us, we were greeted with a four-top stove and dishwasher combo, one miniscule kitchen sink and a mini-fridge. We were provided with next to nothing in terms of kitchen utensils.
On top of this, the owner, Patsy, managed to tack on some extra charges to the rates she’d quoted us previously, even though in her e-mail reply to my initial enquiry, she gave me a figure that was the “all-in cost”. Additionally, we were forced to use the laundry service while here. Somehow Patsy construed a pair of pants, two shirts, one pair of socks, and one undergarment to be a load of clothes. She also charged us extra for ironing, which we hadn’t asked for.
To be fair, apart from the street noises, it is in a nice enough area – relatively close to town without being in the centre, in a valley that maximises the coolness of the mountain air and the shimmering sounds of the vegetation by night. That said, I maintain that Roseau Valley Hotel is highly overpriced. You can do better in terms of value for money in Dominica.

The Roseau Valley Hotel was a pleasant and “home-like” place to stay. The owners, Patsy and Hugh, were warm and welcoming in the “Caribbean way”. They made us feel at home, and being local Dominicans, they could answer all our questions about the island, and make suggestions on places to visit.
Patsy and Hugh were accommodating and did little extras that helped make the stay more pleasant - things like mending clothing and dropping off post cards at the post office. They also had a wireless internet connection installed in one day after we made a request to accommodate a fellow traveler.
I had a pleasant stay and would return again. |

Sitting up in bed each morning we looked through the French doors on our balcany onto a picture perfect view - the orchids and the tropical valley below. Even when it rained in the valley, the sun still shone and a nice breeze filled the air.
When we pulled ourselves from bed, the owners were waiting there to serve us breakfast or help us plan our daily itinerary. The food was amazing. It was like spa food with taste (all healthy with wonderful Caribbean spices). Further, if we wanted something else, they made it for us.
The activities/hiking in the area cuold be pretty intense (you need your boots and mosquito spray), but the two-mile walk into town was nice and calm. It would be a perfect location if you want both the water and the mountain access.
The hotel was a little rough around the edges in that there was no air conditioning or swimming pool. But the valley breeze kept the air cool throughout the day and there were plenty of natural places to go swimming in the area. |

Lovely people, a gorgeous garden, and great food. Visited: November 2002 |

Roseau Valley Hotel is owned by a lovely couple, who do everything they can to make guests stay delightful.
The hotel had a large central dining area and the food was really good. I loved the fresh juices every morning from the trees in the back, especially the passionfruit juice.
We had a room on the end of the hotel overlooking the valley. There was a small balcony extending into the garden. The flowers were lush and the whole island smelled of flowers and lemon grass. There were so many beautiful birds. In that small garden, I counted four different coated hummingbirds.
The hotel had a small bar and Mr. Charles, the owner, was happy to act as a taxi to get guests anywhere they needed to go. Mrs. Charles was a gracious hostess and good for a story or two in the evenings.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room was quite large and had a kitchenette. The bath was also large and the shower worked well. They had a ceiling fan and a floor fan to help cool things when it was hot. The room had two double beds and they were perhaps the only thing that could have been improved upon.
This hotel was definitely one for anyone to consider. I shall certainly return.
