3.0 stars Much ado about not all that much! Visited: March 2008

We traveled from Guadeloupe to Dominica for three days for my husband's birthday, and stayed at Crescent Moon Cabins. It was nicely secluded and pleasant for nature lovers like our ten-year son is.

The accommodation was rustic, but comfortable enough. Although, I expected the cabins to be of higher standard.

Ron, the Chef sprinkled originality all over the food he cooked, and service was fast. It was an excellent opportunity to try different flavors and tastes. It would be suitable even for the non culinary adventurous!

Tiana was helpful, and responded promptly to our requests. It is better to be a dog-lover, though (I am not), as they wander about even when you eat.

We were disappointed at the state of the "pool" and hot tub, when we eventually figured out that's what they were. Indeed, it did not look like they were cleaned regularly, nor the water changed as often it should.

We did meet a fantastic German couple on holiday, too, and they contributed a lot to making our stay in Dominica enjoyable.

Would I consider going back to Crescent Moon Cabins? Frankly, I doubt it. This once was enough!

Travel in Dominica requires a car and the ability to drive on the left on primarily single lane roads. If you can do that and have a true sense of adventure, there is no better place to stay in Dominica than Crescent Moon Cabins.

Four cabins, open to the tropical breezes of the West Indies and facing truly beautiful sunsets, give you a chance to be as close to nature as you could want. We had the fun of seeing a perfect crescent moon.

A pleasant surprise to us was the discovery that our host Ron is an accomplished chef who prepares the best breakfasts and dinners you could imagine. Home grown fruits and vegitables, goats milk soap from the resident goats, and home roasted coffee beans have a counterpoint in the internet connection that allows you to keep in touch with the real world.

Our six days at CMC were one of our best vacations ever.

5.0 stars It was idyllic. Visited: January 2007

The Crescent Moon Cabins had stunning views--past palm, papaya, and African tulip trees, plus plenteous other flora—due west (sunset shows at 6 pm nightly from the hammock on your porch) out to sea, from the mountains above the capital, Roseau.

Crescent Moon owners, Ron and Jean, moved to Dominica nine years ago with a contract for her to start a Montessori program that didn’t pan out. But Dominica got under their skin. They acquired a dilapidated former motel of sorts—four cabins and a little stone house. It was isolated, miles down a barely passable, rutted and rocky road. They rebuilt it from the ground up. The cabins do now each have hot water showers.

One eats extremely well and variously at Crescent Moon (which is difficult to do otherwise in Dominica), with much of the menu arriving immediately out of the surrounding 12 acres.

Breakfast comes with homemade passion fruit or tamarind juice. Ron took a special interest in my interest in herbal teas, providing me with a different one plucked fresh every morning and evening, including an intoxicating brew of patchouli (I kid you not).

After dinner, hosts, guests and dogs tend to hang out for a while in a common room/library (full of books on Dominica)/computer room, together with Ron and Jean’s gardener-daughter Tiana, her baby Leo, and the occasional neighbor.

Ron and family are outstanding sources of all kinds of information about the island--including opportunities for hiking, snorkeling, etc. But really the nicest times were spent soaking in the hot tub that Ron concocted for Jean, soaking up the view and the vibe from their small Eden.

We had an amazing time at Crescent Moon Cabins. It was perfect combination of eco-friendly lodging and five-star dining.

We will definitely return, and have told all of our family and friends about this wonderful place. Thank you for showing us such a wonderful time.

5.0 stars Crescent Moon Cabins offer casually elegant seclusion. Visited: May 2006

My wife and I spent five nights at Crescent Moon in early May. It was one of the highlights of our 30-night, 30th anniversary southern Caribbean vacation. If you are looking for seclusion, way off the beaten track on the edge of the rainforest - this is it.

The cabins were upscale rustic with a cool Caribbean shower (common hot shower was available); open air circulation;
and a great view. It was very romantic.

When night falls and the rainforest orchestra comes alive, you really feel part of it. It is incredible.

Also, the gourmet food prepared by Ron with assistance from Jean and Tiana was consistently outstanding. The fresh home grown organic vegetables and goat cheese and goat's milk yogurt were wonderful. Don't forget to visit the goats when Jean and Ron feed them at 7:00 am. It was really special.

Ron's espresso coffee was the best we have ever tasted. He uses local beans, and roasts and grinds them fresh on site. It was remarkable.

We highly recommend the ad-hoc touring of beautiful Dominica provided by Tiana and David. Also, don't miss getting Tiana to give you a tour of her wonderful gardens at Crescent Moon.

This is not an all-inclusive resort. Don't expect fawning and intrusive service. If you have any issues or needs while here, don't hesitate to bring them up with Ron, Jean or Tiana. We found them to be very friendly and helpful.

All in all, we hope to return to Crescent Moon in the near future.

On another note, we would not rent a car again in Dominica. We returned our rental after two days. I had a small accident trying to avoid oncoming traffic. ($1,000 out of pocket, no one hurt).

If you are comfortable driving on twisting, one-lane mountain roads with two lanes of traffic, go for it! It was like playing chicken continuously with oncoming cars. It was too nerve-racking for us. I suggest you hire a local driver, unless you are looking for this extreme sport as part of your vacation.

My husband and I spent a long weekend at Crescent Moon Cabins to celebrate our sixth anniversary, and we'll definitely be going back!

If you love nature, this is the vacation for you - the island's vegetation is pristine and Crescent Moon's philosophy respects that. The comfortable accommodation blended right into the stunning natural backdrop and reminded us in so many ways of the true spirit of the Caribbean.

We were impressed with the hospitality of our hosts, the amazing food (grown organically and masterfully prepared), the coffee (there are no words to describe!), and the cabins' overall ambience.

Crescent Moon is within driving distance of the capital, Roseau, as well as numerous natural attractions like waterfalls and sulphur springs.

The cabins have a well-stocked library with Internet access if you need to remain in touch with the outside world. However, if you really want to get away from it all, this is the place to be!

With the spectacular views, the mouth-watering food, the charming cabins, and the hospitable owners, Crescent Moon Cabins really feels like heaven on earth.

It was heartbreaking to have to leave.

Crescent = improving. This is the best attitude you can have.
However, the meals could not have tasted better. For us, this was already heaven.

This was a great place to start and explore the island. They had a nice staff who was always ready to help us. There was also easy access to the internet to share our impressions with our friends and family.

In addition, the nights were lovely and cool.

My husband and I (along with another couple) stayed for two wonderful nights at the Crescent Moon. What an experience!

Ron, Jean, and their daughter, Tiana, worked side by side to provide a full service experience. They grow, milk and cook everything themselves. Ron served a rabbit with capers dish that was delicious. I couldn't wait to get up in the morning to fresh grown and roasted coffee. Jean delighted us with fresh goat cheese and yogurt.

Our stay at the Cresent Moom was one of our best adventures on Dominica.

5.0 stars This is an ecofriendly paradise in Dominica. Visited: April 2006

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Crescent Moon Cabins in Sylvania, Dominica. Ron, Jean and Tiana have rescued an abandoned, debilitated hotel, active in the sixties, from the bush and are providing wonderful meals and cozy cabins for their ecofriendly, farm-friendly guests. They've restored four cabins, each one with a veranda (a "must have" for my Caribbean holidays), ample bedroom and bath.

Plato's saying "Necessity is the mother of invention" applies in the case of Crescent Moon. Situated at 1800 feet above sea level on the side of a mountain near the end of a pothole-marked road that winds down the mountain from Pond Casse, obtaining fresh food and parts to fix things is a bit of an effort.

Ron and Jean's place features a herd of milking goats for fresh milk and cheese, chickens for eggs, a greenhouse for fresh fruits and veggies, hydraulic ram pumps to move water uphill without the use of electricity, and a coffee roaster invented by Ron himself. Expect to get treated to the best coffee on the island, locally grown and processed and Ron-roasted.

Crescent Moon Cabins is located at just the right elevation: it is warm during the day, but not too warm, and pleasantly cool in the evenings. It's a great place to unwind and to enjoy the lush vegetation that pushes in from all sides. Before dinner, take a dip in the hot tub. Choose a book from the growing collection in the clubroom. Watch the crescent moon rise over the mountains. Eat fabulous meals created by Chef Ron. Enjoy!

5.0 stars We loved Crescent Moon Cabins. Visited: March 2006

This is a very special island, and Crescent Moon Cabins was a great location from which to explore all the natural wonders of Dominica.

We loved the rustic cabin, the view, the peace and quiet (except bird song). We thought the food was wonderful, too. Ron, Jean and Tiana were gracious and helpful.

I would recommend Crescent Moon Cabins to anyone who wants a peaceful, out of the way retreat with only a few special people around. We enjoyed excellent meals and lots of nature!

It is difficult to put into words how we felt about our stay at Crescent Moon Cabins. We were guests here for seven nights and could not have asked for a better place to stay.

We did not know what to expect, since it would be the first time traveling with our 8 1/2 month old daughter. Ron, Jean, and Tiana went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and well taken care of.

The cabins were simple, but perfect in this setting. One wouldn't want any more since you are surrounded by the luscious backdrop of the beautiful rainforest. Each morning, we would awake to the sounds of the forest and would sit on the balcony looking out to the Caribbean Sea in the distance. Ron's food and coffee were just amazing! My husband was very interested in his intense coffee roasting hobby.

Ron, Jean, and Tiana all were very helpful in recommending the appropriate hikes for our liking. Victoria Falls was absolutely stunning, and Moses (their recommended guide) led us safely up the river to the waterfall (baby included, strapped in her carrier on my husband's back).

It was particularly nice that Ron, Jean, and Tiana all take such pride in their establishment. They are truly genuine people who love what they are doing. It was wonderful getting to know them and we hope to visit again someday!

This was a perfect place to immerse oneself in the rainforest of Dominica. The highlight of my stay was Ron's cooking.

Also, Jen, Ron and Tiana's welcoming and informative hospitality made it a place to enjoy and return to time and time again.

This was probably the best vacation decision we've ever made - and we have probably spoiled all future vacations as nothing will ever compare.

Ron, Jean and Tiana were the most delightful hosts we could have hoped for - and Crescent Moon is probably the most relaxing spot on the planet. The cabins were very nice, the view was spectacular, and the sounds of the rainforest were like heaven.

There is not a better place to eat on the island. Ron really knows his stuff in the kitchen - Meg and I really enjoyed every meal. If only we could eat that well every day.

We will definitely be spending a few anniversaries back at Crescent Moon - five days was just not enough. Thanks again for the most picture-perfect honeymoon we could ask for.

I can't say enough good things about Crescent Moon Cabins. Our cabin was great, the hosts were fantastic, and the food was amazing.

It was the perfect place to lounge around and be lazy while enjoying good food and interesting company - or the perfect place to get inside knowledge on the island and explore.

I would highly recommend Crescent Moon, and would return in an instant.

If the Nature Island of Dominica is your choice of destination, the ecology friendly Crescent Moon Cabins is the place to stay! This small, family operated guest house with four cabins, is situated in a lush, tropical garden, with magnificent views out over the ocean.
The setting provides a unique atmosphere in which to "get away from it all".

During our two-week stay here, there were no two meals alike. Their own chickens and goats provided fresh eggs, milk and cheese, and Ron's gourmet cooking skills guarantee innovative and healthy menus.

Jean, Ron and Tiana were always ready with suggestions in planning daily activities. They also helped with arranging for a car rental - a necessity in that location - or for a guide for hikes when needed.

We would certainly recommend a stay at Crescent Moon and hope make a return visit to this special place.

Crescent Moon Cabins is the ideal place from which you can explore the natural wonders of Dominica.

After a long day of hiking to huge waterfalls, or natural hot springs nestled in rainforests, one can enjoy a delicious meal of natural foods, soak in their hot tub overlooking a rainforest-covered canyon, or just relax in a hammock with a good book.

The proprietors are kind, generous, and exellent tour guides. So if want to explore the most beautiful island in the Caribbean, Crescent Moon Cabins is the place to stay!

Crescent Moon Cabins not only made my trip to Dominica one of the best experience I have had, but we lived in heaven while doing it.

We were able to explore the island, eat amazing food, and relax around the cabins with great company. I felt like it was a great location on the island, and not to far from the the airport. It was even just a short drive to the local trail where one of the many amazing waterfalls was located.

We were able to sleep great at night after a wonderful dinner and wake up to fresh coffee and more amazing food. Thank you, Crescent Moon Cabins, for the wonderful experience and adventure! I will definitely be back!

Staying at Crescent Moon Cabins was amazing. The cabins had a spectacular view and were very comfortable.

As each day in Dominica was full of site seeing, they helped us pick the best places to go. This was an extreme help since they recommended sites perfect for what we were looking for.

The meals were also perfect; Ron has such a talent for cooking. Our Dominica trip couldn't have been what it was without Crescent Moon Cabins. I highly recommend it!
