This was a wonderful 6-day vacation for my wife and me. The facilities were excellent, the beach beautiful and the entertainment fun. In short, we would strongly recommend Jack Tar Puerta Plata

We just got back from our honeymoon and what a superb time we had at Jack Tar, from the moment we were met at reception, to the moment we left the resort.

The hotel is possibly the cleanest I have ever stayed at. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful (Reggie, Christian and Eddie were great).

The food was great. We tried all of the restaurants and loved them all.

The grounds were beautifully kept and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. It was a thoroughly enjoyable honeymoon.

3.0 stars great vacation but...... Visited: May 2001

My husband and I just got back from Dominican Republic the hotel grounds were beautiful and well kept. I loved the beach. The pools were nice and clean, although we didn’t spend any time at the pools.

The room was okay, but needs some re-doing. We had trouble with light fixtures and a leak in bathtub. The staff was very friendly and wanting to please.

We had no problem getting reservations at the specialty restaurants, but they were not open all nights. The grill by the activities pool was not open at all during the day. Caruso's was very good and so was Papaya's. Overall, a good vacation.

4.0 stars Enjoyed every minute! Visited: April 2001

We just returned from DR yesterday(4/24). We enjoyed the Jack Tar Resort very much. Everything was clean and well maintained in the resort compound. Bars and restaurants were all open, but Caruso(Italian) was hard to get a reservation at. The Seafood restaurant(on the beach) and Caribbean restaurant (next to the main pool) were both interesting and served well prepared meals. I especially enjoyed the beach restaurant having Ceviche, Caribbean black bean soup, beef tenderloin with shrimp, all well prepared. The beef may have been local having a slight gamey taste and a little tougher than I am used to but good none-the-less.

The beach was a short stroll from our room even though we were situated on the opposite side of the compound. Beach wasn't cleaned daily but, except for seagrass and minimal debris deposited by the waves, it was clean. The beach wasn't very wide but there seemed to be enough room for everyone. Waves good enough to body surf in and the beach bar was close at hand with the beach restaurant open for lunch.

You can walk to the Plaza Dorado for trinket shopping but it's better at the flea market directly adjacent to the Jack Tar resort.

By no means is this a secluded resort, it is on the Playa Dorado resort area with about 8 other resorts, but you can walk for miles along the beach. I liked the swim-up Azucar bar at the quiet pool. The entertainment was corny but fun. The casino was nice. I have been to two Allegro Resorts and have thoroughly enjoyed them both and would be willing to recommend them to anyone.

4.0 stars Well worth it! Visited: January 2000

My husband and I got married there and it was great. We wanted a resort with reasonable golf rates and adults only. Our wedding we will never forget, and it was so relaxing and stress free.

The resort was very, very clean and the food was good. None of us got sick.

The golf was good and the caddies were a blast. The entertainment was terrific and the staff were so very friendly.

I would go back in a minute. The beach was the best in the area by the way.

4.0 stars Relaxation plus!! Visited: December 1969

Another great Jack Tar vacation! We go to swim, relax, eat and drink and we got everthing we wanted. We spent our days by the "quiet pool" and watched the golfers walk by. The food was great, although we couldn't get reservations in any of the a la carte restaurants. The staff were very accomodating and helpful, considering they were truly busy the week we were there (Feb 14-21). The weather was great. The resort was more spread out than St. Kitts, but easy enough to find your way around. We were very impressed with the nightly entertainment. The only thing that brought my rating down to 4 stars was the ringing of the telephone while relaxing by the pool. No phones allowed on my vacation please. Next year Jamaica or Cancun!!

4.0 stars Fabulous, relaxing vacation! Visited: December 1969

We had an excellent time at this resort. The grounds are lush and green and there are palm trees everywhere! The staff were friendly and always cleaning the pools and grounds. The beach was beautiful and the scenery gorgeous! Our room was nice with a view of the golf course and the mountains in the distance. The food was good and we didn't have any trouble making reservations at any of the three speciality restaurants. Getting chairs by the pool or beach was no problem. There was entertainment nightly and theme nights at the disco. The majority of guests seemed to be from Canda and the USA. We met some nice couples from both places. I would recommend this resort to anyone.

4.0 stars Excellent property, staff, entertainment and accomodations. Visited: December 1969

This is the nicest resort in Playa Dorado/Puerta Plata area. Beyond the excellent staff, entertainment and outstanding facilities - it is simply beautiful and relaxing. It has the nicest beach and access to bars and food no matter where you are in the resort. The nightly shows are truly exceptional - they try hard to please you here. Main dining room food was average.
