Some things were good, and some "not so much". Visited: March 2006 |

I went to Breezes Puerto Plata in March 2006. I really liked the fact that the resort was small enough that we could walk everywhere. The pool was lovely, as was the swim-up bar.
The entertainment by the pool was very good. The entertainment in the evening was okay. I found the pre-shows much more entertaining, as they involved members from the audience and were very, very funny.
Our room was very damp (my sister and I almost had a melt down our first day here because of it). Our evening clothes were damp at night when we put them on, and they had been hanging up all the time. The air conditioning in the room was okay.
Housekeeping did their job, but did nothing extra even though we left plenty of treats. Jimmy's Buffet was good, although I suspect they "recycled" food from one day to the next. Out of our party of six, four of us were sick on the trip. Lots of other travelers were also ill. Those were the negatives of our trip.
Like I said, it was a short walk everywhere, so if you are bringing kids they would hardly get lost here. the staff was very friendly at the bars and restaurants.
All of the specialty restaurants were quite good. We didn't try the Mexican one, though. The highlight of our trip was the Monster Truck ride which was worth every penny. It was a great opportunity to see the country and the people. It was very easy to take a hotel taxi into Cabarete, and our taxi driver was right on time picking us up to come back to the resort.
Hold onto your purse in these towns, and be prepared to walk away. Be aware of the girls trying to braid your hair, before you know it, you have three braids in your hair, and they are demanding $10. We gave $2 since we didn't even ask for the braids, and then walked away, leaving them quite upset.
I would go to this resort again if our rooms were dry and not damp, and if no one got sick from the food. They were generous with drinks, I think the booze was cheaper than the pop there.
I think this resort has been downgraded from a four-star to a three-star, which is appropriate. |
