This is our second time staying at Barcelo Bavaro. Visited: August 2007 |

My wife and I stayed here two years ago, and there was a severe language barrier. This time in August this year, we stayed at the Beaches and it was great.
We had the best time ever, and the language barrier was not that bad.
The food and the service were great, and our waitress (Maria) was awesome.
We are planning to go back next year in August, and stay at the Beaches. |

It was terrible, and a waste of time and money. Visited: July 2007 |

This hotel was terrible. How would you like to arrive drinking Pepto Bismol instead of a strawberry daquiri? They must be preparing for the sickness that lies ahead for the guests.
Our room was gross, with bugs all over our counter tops. the beaches were littered with plastic cups they poured that nasty Presidente beer into. Oh, and you have to love that grease that floated on the top of the pool water It made me want to dive right in!
In addition, room service hung up on me three times because they couldn't understand me. To top it off, my husband got sick from the food - and I mean violently ill!
It took me twelve hours change our flight because no one could understand me.
Also, in my opinion, you are better off eating dog food than eating here. None of the restaurants were air conditioned. About a handful of people spoke English.
We left four days early because we were about to go insane.
Also, our shower didn't work, and the whole hotel smelled of sewage. the birds just sat on the buffet food!
We had booked a parasailing trip, but couldn't go because my husband was throwing up. They hassled me when I tried to get our money back, and said we could go later. It was like talking to a wall!
Our toilet wouldn't flush and our shower didn't work. We were the only American people on the resort. We ran into about five other people who were either sick or miserable. Also, the employees looked miserable. Nice $3,000 vacation.
I suggest you stay away from here! |

A great small property and the most beautiful beaches. Visited: June 2003 |

This property was small along with four other Barcelo properties surrounding. I would recommend you stay at one and play and eat at the others. However, at the Palace, you pay extra for the seafood restaurant and the French Restaurant.
Every day we went to the Garden next to us and ate lobster tails at 12:15 p.m. We got the oceanfront seats and dining was outside on the sand. Regarding the liquor, you must ask for it in your drinks. Don't worry, they are wonderful and will keep your cup full.
Regarding the rooms - it was not a Ritz, but the rooms were maintained well by the maids and if we had any problems, maintenance was right there.
The reason I liked it so well, was that at so many other properties, they are so big and you cannot see the ocean from your room. Well, we did, and the beaches and grounds are rated number one in my book.
They gave massages right on beach for only $20 for a half hour and $40 for one hour. Do it, and you will have it done daily.
The only problem I had was that the operator kept telling my office I was not here, and my staff knew I was.
I hope you have as much fun as I did! I am getting ready for my return trip. |

We had a great vacation experience. Visited: June 2002 |

We spent our summer vacation at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach and had a wonderful time.
My husband and I enjoyed the food, all shows, and the beach, of course. Our daughters, 16 and 18, enjoyed the water sports, mini-golf, horseback riding and the Merengue.
We have visited other Caribbean islands, but the "Latino" friendliness made a difference. The food was good and the service was superb. We found the rooms to be a little too small and simple, but the rest was just wonderful! I can't wait to go back. |
