I recommend not listening to the bad reviews. Visited: April 2006 |

I just returned from Barcelo Villas Bavaro Beach, and had a great time. The food was first class, all staff were helpful and friendly, the pool was cleaned daily, and the gardens were well kept.
The rooms were a little dark, though. The beach was out of this world. Don't let bad reports put you off - just book! Go and enjoy yourself. |

I read the reviews of this hotel, and was apprehensive. However, from the moment we arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised!
The hotel's communal areas were beautiful. Our room was in the villas area (as most Brits seemed to be). This was furthest away from the beach, but it was a beautiful walk - and when the weather is tropical, who cares?
Our room was basic but clean, and everything worked. We had no problems with mosquitos, but we took a coil so that helped. Maid service good.
The food was good. We found that the best buffet restaurant for breakfast was the one closest to the beach, as it wasn't as busy. The Mexican restaurant was okay. Caribe was fantastic! We went twice in a week and comiserated going home in there on our last night!
The pool was gorgeous and well kept. Drinks were plentiful, and the staff was friendly and nice.
How do you describe paradise?! The beach really was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, even at night. The water was gorgeous!
My partner is a qualified diver, and I was a complete novice. We used to dive center attached to the hotel, Neptuno. They were fantastic - especially for a beginner like me who was petrified! I'm converted, they made our holiday. Don't hesitate to book your dives with them. You'll never forget your first dive, so it may as well be in tropical waters with beautiful marine life!
The outback safari was a great day out. It was bumpy, so be warned if you suffer from travel sickness! We booked to go snorkeling with sharks, but I then found out that they were caged, so we canceled it as I don't agree with it. I don't recommend you go to Manatee Park or Dolphin Island. I believe the animals are mistreated.
All in all, they provide three-star rooms, four-star facilities, and five-star people - and it's people who make your holiday! |

Having never vacationed in the Dominican Republic, my wife and I were expecting a series of culture shocks. To our great surprise, we found upon our arrival, an air of festival and fun, with the air temperature at 89°F. It was just what a couple of upper USA midwesterner's needed to experience, being in the coolgrips of our early spring.
As for food, we found many of the same items which would be found on our own tables. But be aware, they were prepared with a mixture of Dominican, European, and American preparation. It broadened our palates and we enjoyed a wide variety of tastes. The fowl, fruits and fresh fish were a joy to view and to taste.
The staff at Villas Bavaro Beach Resort was extremely professional, with a sincere sense of urgency to our needs.
I have, and will continue to, promote this resort to my friends and contacts throughout the world, and "will" return to be pampered again. To not choose this resort for vacation would truly be your loss. |

We stayed there for two weeks. It was amazing. The hotel was pretty good - actually very nice.
The staff was also very kind and friendly. The room was okay. We liked it. The food was number one - especially the cakes and the fruits.
The resort was wonderful, they had the best beach I've ever seen.
The people on the animation team were very kind and nice, also. And the night show was very good. There was a hotel disco which was also very good.
We would like to come back this hotel again. I can definitely suggest you stay here!

We were in the 1000 buildings, Iand I recommend that you avoid this totally.
Our room was full of mosquitoes and ants, and we ahd no hot water. We asked to be moved, but were not.
The beach was beautiful. But the food was terrible. How many ways can you cook spam? The mixed drinks were terrible. However, they did have cold Presidente beer that was good.
I certainly did not expect the perks of a four- or five-star resort, but I did expect the room to be clean and the staff to be polite. If the weather had been bad, it would have been a horrible stay. We avoided our room, and used it as a place just to "crash."
This country had just experienced some horrible floods and this may have played a part in the attitudes of the staff. I would not go back to this resort, but I can't wait to go back to Punta Cana. |

We had a fantastic time, and the resort was better than we had hoped. The pool was nice and clean, although we never went in. The beach and ocean were too beautiful to waste time at the pool.
The room was an extremely pleasant surprise - it was clean, everything worked, shower, toliet, tv etc... and we had a great balcony overlooking the pool and the bar. The cleaning staff only cleaned the room and changed the sheets every other day, but beyond that, we were happy.
We're vegetarians, so the food for us was lacking and was the only down side to the trip. After the first day, we became tired of spaghetti and potatoes for lunch and dinner every night. Meat eaters and those who are not picky should be fine.
The Outback Safari was worthwhile, they took us deep up in the countryside and kept the rum flowing the whole time, it was a good change of pace from the beach.
Let me stress again, the beach was beautiful, and where we spent most of our time. |

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon for one week. That was not enough time. We needed at least two weeks.
There was great entertainment, friendly service, and amazing weather. There were a lot of activities and great people to meet. If you want a place close to the beach, though, stay at the Ocean Village. The villas were quite a walk from the beach.
I cannot wait to go back. I would move here if I could afford it. |
