I thought it was horrible. Visited: April 2006
Posted by hvgkaminsky
I had the opportunity to stay at this resort during the week of April 16, through April 23, 2006. The following is a synopsis of my experiences.

We booked one room (1) king size bed and one room (1) with two beds.

Upon viewing the accommodations, we found one room with a king sized bed, located on a “wheeled” frame, with no headboard or other real furniture pieces within the room. The second room consisted of the same, but we were later delivered a “roll-away” bed….or a “child’s” bed.

I contacted “Reception” and spoke with Mr. Franklin. He was quite rude to me, and seemed very frustrated, as other arrivals were apparently also dissatisfied with their accommodations, and were being re-situated within the hotel. The bathrooms were leaking, there were holes within the walls and within the ceramic tiles in the rooms. We also had little critters – ants, salamanders, etc..

The hotel's remedy to the situation was to set up a second bed. It was placed upon the floor, with no bed frame, just a mattress for the daughter. It reminded us of “camping” except that we were indoors and in a foreign country.

We then had another trip to the Reception area to discuss the safe and its operation, the locks within the room, because they did not lock the doorways. Also, the air conditioner was not working. It took four days to replace the television, and there were no amenities to the room, such as drinking water.

This resort in Puerto Plata was advertised on the web as a “five-star” resort, as well as the one in Punta Cana, D.R. Unfortunately, we paid serious amounts of money to visit these resorts, and they were not well kept, had serious management issues, had no customer service at all.

This resort was the first all-inclusive resort that I have ever visited where the swim-up bar was not stocked with supplies for beverage consumption. Also, you could not get a cocktail at the pool bar.

I felt like an imposition to the staff at this hotel – and we will never return to an Occidental resort.
