Experience eco-conscious luxury at Punta Cana Resort. Visited: March 2005 Posted by beccane5 Most people don't know that this is a "green" resort! They have the only water treatment facilities of all the hotels in Punta Cana. And they use leftover water from showers and sinks ("graywater") that is treated for safety, to water the golf course. They also use salt tolerant grass on the golf course, so it can be watered with seawater (80% of it is). In addition, many of the vegetables in the restaurants are grown organically onsite, and the owners have opened a Biodiversity Lab on the grounds. The lab hosts scientific research and environmental education programs from Harvard, Columbia. UMiami, Stevens Institute of Technology, etc. You can tour the Indigenous Eyes nature trail and have birdwatching and other nature activities. Finally, the owners also work with the community. They've built housing and a K-12 bilingual school nearby (with sliding fees according to ability to pay) and they have implemented programs on AIDS awareness and other health issues. I'd rather spend my money here than the other resorts, and I didn't have to sacrifice quality or amenities. It's a small resort, so don't expect a party atmosphere. Visited: October 2004 Posted by alecroberts86 I had a very enjoyable holiday. The bar staff was very kind. I had a room with a view, and couldn't really complain looking over the pool and stage.
