The Hotel Santo Domingo is a good hotel. Visited: December 2001 Posted by 1 In general, the hotel was very clean, nicely decorated, and quiet. My room was okay, and was facing the pool. Nice Hotel, but deteriorating Visited: February 2001 Posted by beautifullthing I had booked and paid in advance to stay at the Hispaniola Hotel "which was supposed to be a 4-star hotel" but when I got there I was told that they were totally booked, so they would upgrade me to the Hotel Santo Domingo across the street. First, we got to the Hotel Santo Domingo and explained the situation to the clerk. He kept telling me that the reservation I had was for the Hispaniola Hotel. Then finally after calling a manager, I was given a room facing the front of the hotel. I turned on the air-conditioner to rest after the long ordeal at the airport and trip to the hotel. When I woke up, there was smoke all over my room. I called room service and it was the air-conditioner. The pool was beautiful, but traffic drives right behind it and you constantly hear traffic, horns and lots of emissions from the cars.
