Calabash is highly overrated. Visited: May 2008 |

My wife and I were looking forward to our vacation at the Calabash Hotel based upon the web site presentation. Well, that was short lived.
When we arrived, they didn't pick us up at the airport as planned. When we finally arrived at the hotel, we were in a state of shock because of how bad the property looked (nothing like the web site pictures). Also, there was dog feces in several places on the lawn area.
At the room, we were given instructions on spraying the room along with an electronic bug zapper (I think), and advised to spray before leaving for dinner so that the smell will be gone by the time you return.
The beach was not nice, and the view was of all boats anchored very close to shore.
To say the least, we checked out within the hour once we were able to get a room at another hotel (Spice Island Beach Resort). I wish I could rate this hotel "zero stars" - because that's what it deserves. |

Calabash is all hype and poor delivery. Visited: December 2007 |

I'll not be visiting the restaurant again!
The taxi sent from Calabash Hotel failed to pick us up from our hotel where we were staying. No explanation was given for the taxi not showing. As a result, everything was rushed.
The food was okay, but not spectacular. And the service? Well - I've had better at a Beefeater! |

This was a great hotel - but not so great for kids. Visited: April 2004 |

April '04 was our second stay at this hotel, but our first with our young daughter.
Although we highly rate the food, privacy, beach, private pool off our room, breakfast on our private patio, etc., we must warn that this resort is not appropriate for very young children.
Although we were told by the hotel that in low-season children were welcome and amenities were available for them, this was found to be totally untrue. No high chairs were provided in the dining room or for breakfast, and eating hours with children were restricted (you must eat before all other guests entered the dining room), etc, etc.
It was very disappointing. |

We thought Calabash was very nice. Visited: November 2003 |

My husband and I went to the Calabash on our honeymoon. We thought the place was excellent! We especially loved the fact that we had breakfast made and delivered to our balcony every day for two weeks!
I would not really recommend the hotel restaurant, though. We stayed here over Thanksgiving and had mistakenly ordered the "turkey dinner". Well, we should have realized that turkeys are probably scarce on the island! But all in all, the restaurants around town were good.
The beach at the hotel was not great, but the pool was really nice. |

This was our second holiday at Calabash - we booked it as soon as we arrived home from the first one! And, the second time around it more than came up to our expectations, right from the warm welcome as we arrived.
The food was still amazing and we can't wait for the new Gary Rhodes restaurant to open. We will be back! |

It was our best holiday ever! Visited: August 2002 |

The hotel, food and staff were second to none. The hotel, beach and gardens were very clean, also. The beach was uncrowded, and we did not notice the planes.
Also, having our breakfast perpared by our own maid was just wonderful.
We will definitely return as soon as possible! |

We enjoyed relaxation and excellent service. Visited: April 2002 |

The food was excellent, the pool was uncrowded, and the service was second to none.
The comments about the planes were rubbish. They passed over at quite a height, were not noisy, and were quite infrequent.
The food was marvelous, and the menu changed regularly. We visited the Jalousie Hilton in St. Lucia first before traveling to the Calabash, and much preferred the atmosphere at the Calabash.
We would definitely return. |

Disappointing Visited: April 2002 |

Being well-seasoned travellers to the Caribbean, we feel quite confident in our assessment of this resort. The best thing it has going for it, is the food..definitely a 5 plus star. The staff are also highly rated. Always eager to please, and make sure you are "happy". There are, however, a few downsides...namely, the grassy, seaweed on the sea bed, makes it uncomfortable to swim in the ocean. Also, we attempted to have the resort arrange a day snorkeling trip, which for any number of reasons was not possible.
During our stay, for 2 nights we lost electricity for 3-4 hrs. in the evening while we were showering, etc. (this was restricted to only 2 rooms). These negatives are only minor, however, in comparison to our major concern...that being, our LOCKED room safe was burglarized....namely cash!! Although, on the whole, we enjoyed our vacation, it is unlikely that we will revisit this property. |

This was the most fantastic place. Visited: April 2002 |

Everything about Calabash was fantastic - from the warm welcome as we arrived weary after a 10-hour flight, to the amazing food in the restaurant, the leisurely breakfasts on our patio, our own plunge pool and a beach that was never, ever crowded.
This was the first holiday for years when I have not even felt compelled to phone the office - I was so relaxed. There was nothing to get wound up about at all. The pace was slow, the weather was just right - it was just perfect. We will certainly be back and it was obvious that many of our fellow guests were 'returnees' and that really said it all.
In addition, the rooms were really well appointed. I have problems with the comment on other reviews about the beds. And the planes were so small and far between, they were hardly a nuisance!
All in all, this was the best Caribbean resort we have ever been to.
Thank you Calabash for a great holiday! |

A stress free vacation right on the beach. Visited: March 2002 |

The setting was wonderful. The area was small enough to be close to the beach, the pool and resturants, yet large enough to do all of this right.
Breakfasts were made to order and was brought to us by the maid. There was a whirlpool tub in the bathrooms. The deck was nice for enjoying the view of the grounds and beach area, with ceiling fans to keep you cool. The restaurant was also first class.
While you are here, take at least one taxi ride with a fine gentleman named Welcome Cummings. His name says it all. He made me feel so welcome in Grenada. He showed me special beaches, property for sale and even the right spot for buying spices. I had planned to rent car for three days, but after my first trip with him, I gave up on that idea. I let him show me the wonderful island of Grenada. Mr. Cummings was a fine ambassator for Grenada and the hotel. |

Excellent food, the rest was so-so Visited: August 2000 |

We came here for our honeymoon. The resort was full until 2 days after we arrived in Grenada, so we booked 2 nights at a nearby all-inclusive first.
I have to admit the food at the Calabash was excellent, but the king bed was ludicrous - two twin mattresses over what felt like solid wood.
The water sports and other activities were very weak; there was at most 2 sunfish and one guy handling all the water sports. The snooker room/library was barely maintained, dark and hot; the TV room was a bare room with 2 chairs and a TV.
Jets flew over early in the morning. We lost 2 nights deposit, but we decided to stay elsewhere. |

My partner and I were on a Calledonian flight to Antigua which terminated at Grenada due to a hurricane over Antigua. While attempting to find a suitable place to stay, we received a recommendation for the Calabash. Our experience at the Calabash was first class. Never have we received such great service. Thanks to all the team at the Calabash. We hope to visit again soon. |
