I was very disappointed. Visited: June 2008
Posted by trini
What I thought would have been a great weekend turned out to be very disappointing. The best looking part of the Grenadian by Rex Resort was the reception area. The rooms were okay in size, but the air-conditioning was not up to standard.

While some of the staff were very pleasant, there were a few who were not. The lady who fried the eggs for breakfast never smiled, and always looked as though she was upset to fry an egg for you. There wasn't much variety with the food, either.

What was quite noticeable was the fact that, some of the waiters were quite professional when it came to serving the Europeans, and the Caribbean people were left to wait or would have to call on one of them to serve you whatever you wanted.

On the last day of my stay, I requested a late checkout, so we paid the $40 that was standard procedure, and we were moved to another room 3109. When we used the toilet and flushed it, it overflowed. We called reception, and someone was sent to check it out.

This was what we had to deal with. The young lady asked, "How did the toliet overflow?" (all I did was flush it). We left the room to go to lunch. When we got back in about two hours' time, the ground was dry, and the toilet still had its contents in it (and there was no explanation on what we should do).

The air condition in that room was also a waste of time. What did I pay US $40. for?

I loved the location. It was secluded, but not too far from the town centre (15mins). Also, the airport was just five minutes away. I only heard a plane once, and that was out at the poolside with someone drawning it to my attention.

As for the beach - wow! In addition, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the resort was very clean.

This was an excellent value. I will be going back in October.

This was a nice hotel on a beautiful island. Visited: April 2006

My husband and I have just returned from a week-long stay at the Rex. We stayed "room only", and had a great holiday!

The hotel was mainly all-inclusive, but we stayed room only because we like to experience the ‘real’ Caribbean when we are there. If you are not all-inclusive, drinks and food at the hotel can be very pricy and not good quality. However, we soon discovered the Aquarium down the beach which sold amazing food for half the price. The Caribs were cheaper, colder and served in the bottle rather than a plastic cup!

Our room was functional, but fairly basic. The only complaint that I would have was that there was no fridge. However, there was an ice machine right outside our door. The reception staff was always very friendly and pleased to help wherever they could.

The hotel had a lovely setting. The beaches were very beautiful and unspoiled. The water was clear and a light turquoise color. We usually sunbathed on the watersports beach, but then got put off when we saw locals and tourists torture and kill a giant lizard (the only low point of the holiday).

We had breakfast once in the whole week and thought it was okay, but not worth the 44EC each that we paid. We also had the buffet lunch in the hotel once. For lunch, they had salads, burgers, sandwiches and the full buffet which had fish, rice and vegetables. We were hungry, and there was lots of food. But we prefer quality rather then quantity. It was very expensive and rather tasteless.

In the evening, we went to many different restaurants on the island, courtesy of our taxi driver Emery, who was a lovely man! We learned a lot about the island from him.

We went into St. Georges for the Saturday market, which was great! We would recommend buying any booze which you want to take home from the local supermarket – it’s cheaper than anywhere (even the duty free). Don’t eat lunch at the Tout Bagay – it was disgusting!

Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and we were quite sad to leave this beautiful island. The locals were so friendly, and the island was quite breathtaking! We would recommend Grenada to anyone, but if you’re all-inclusive - you will miss out. Enjoy!

Grenadian by Rex Resorts employs caring and friendly staff! Visited: September 2004

We were staying at this resort when Hurricane Ivan struck September 7th, 2004. We were well cared for by the staff who, in many cases, put our needs before those of their own families. Thank you - everyone at the Rex.

We enjoyed a fabulous week before Ivan and will be back to stay again in the future!

This was my perfect wedding in Paradise. Visited: June 2004
Posted by aurabesh
My husband and I got married June 11, 2004 at the Rex Grenadian on the beautiful white sands of our complex!

I would fully recommend getting married at this hotel. We were so well looked after from the beginning of our honeymoon until the end! The staff could not do enough for us to make our stay a welcoming and memorable one.

The hotel itself was set in amongst beautiful gardens, with fantastic and beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea from our beach front room. There was plenty to drink and eat at all times of the day, and the food was excellent!

We loved it so much, that after five weeks after getting back from our honeymoon, we've booked to go again next year for our first wedding anniversary. We are counting down the months until we can go again!

The overall holiday was a memorable one, we both shall never forget and are looking forward to seeing our Grenadian friends we met here.

Couldn't believe what crap this was! Visited: January 2003

Let's start with the good, shortly after arriving we were pleasantly surprised at the grand entrance and what seemed like a really beautiful building. We were also impressed with the friendly staff and the fact that we received wonderful drinks while waiting to check in. Yes folks! it ends there.

Once we got to our rooms, I was very disappointed. I wanted to end the trip immediately. It resembled the interior of a bomb shelter. The rooms are not well maintained, the floors were chipped and cracked and just poor all around decorating taste. Not a big deal, I could learn to live with this as I am not one to spend many hours in my hotel on vacation. Soon after I made it to the bathroom. Well I almost had to be resuscitated. There were the standard items such as the toilette, sink and the dirtiest stall for a shower. I was so disgusted that I tried to keep my daily activities to a minimum for fear I would have to take more than my 2 a day shower restriction I had just put on myself. I wore slippers at all times and tried my best not to touch the walls, which were hard to do considering I could barely fit myself and wash cloth in there at the same time.

By day 2 or 3 we had requested an up grade. Which was a bit better but not much. At least I had a tub and a shower that worked. Not to mention a TV. Oh the luxury. We had a partial ocean view which was nice too.

On to the food. I expected that since we were in the Caribbean there would be some food from the hotel that would be somewhat delicious. Breakfast was good, however lunch and dinner weren't that great. The food was most often bland tasting. Far too many unrecognizable brown dishes to discus. I was NOT impressed. I went to bed hungry many nights.

The beach area was a bit rocky but very relaxing and quiet. Considering that we were exactly a 40 second drive from the airport.

There is little to no entertainment, which is disappointing as the city pretty much closes down at 6 or 7 every night.

Don't expect luxury, nice rooms or great food. However do expect to waste your money thinking that you will be getting the above.

The Rex Grenadian is lovely. It is all you need on a Caribbean holiday. You can relax daily poolside, entertainment and live shows are offered in the evening, and they have a lovely staff who attend to your every need.

The Rex made my holiday.

I'm only 13, but this was one of the best holidays I've ever had. Visited: December 2002
Posted by lushlucy_2
I was unsure about whether I was going to like it in Grenada because I had heard it was quiet and didn't have much of a night life. But when I arrived, I wasn't bothered by that.

The people here were just so nice and friendly, and made me feel like I never wanted to leave.

I spent Christmas here, and I had a really good day. The food was good, and the people were all so happy even though they had to work on Christmas day. Also, the steel band was excellent on that day.

I had an excellent holiday, and I'm begging my mum to take us back next year!

The best family holiday we have had. Visited: October 2002
Posted by lawrenceapplegarth
We have been to Barbados 4 times, and Tobago once. From the moment we arrived, everything was done to ensure our holiday was not spoilt by problems.

Our family consisted of two grandparents, plus three adults and three children (aged 17 months, 6 and 9 years).

On arrival, our recently arranged upgrade from hillside view to beach front was ready. One adult bed was found to be unsatisfactory, and was changed within a couple of hours of our request. We asked how we could get warm milk in the middle of the night for the baby and were immediatley provided with facilities at no charge.

A fridge, chargeable, was delivered within an hour of our request. A table for 7 plus a high chair was allocated for our stay in the main restaurant.

The grounds were nothing short of immaculate and relaxing. The two beaches were beautiful, although swimming on the largest was limited because of rocks. We were here in the rainy season, and as expected, we had some rain, but not enough to spoil the holiday.

The pool was a real hit with the kids, and the service at both the poolside bar and restaurant was better than we have previously experienced. As we were here in the low season, the main restaurant was never particularly busy. The variety and quality of meals available was very good both at lunchtime and in the evening. Although one or two of the evening meal main dishes were not very hot. The breakfasts were excellent with a wide variety of choices.

The staff was very friendly and the service from all aspects was good. I would thoroughly recommend this location to both couples and families.

We got married in the hotel, and the staff bent over backwards to make the day go as smoothly as possible. They even let us have the royal suite for the evening.

As for the rest of the holiday, we had a party of 23 people. They will all tell you the same - that the staff was friendly and very helpful. We would recommend this hotel and country to anyone.

A very pleasant, and relaxing resort. Visited: June 2002
Posted by jaynesib
We enjoyed our recent holiday here very much. It was so relaxing. Our room (a seaview room) was one of the best we have ever had in the Caribbean (we have stayed on 11 other islands!)

Yes, there were niggles, such as slow service in the restaurant some nights, but so what - you are in the Caribbean and you are on holiday - what's the rush?

We were there in the low season (June) and the hotel only had 30% occupancy which was good for us, as the staff that was there was more attentive and very friendly than they would have been had the hotel been full.

We didn't like the wrist bands that denoted the all inclusive guests (and the gold bands that 'repeaters' got). I'm sure that the Rex group could come up with a less obtrusive method.

All in all, we would rate this resort at 8 out of 10.

The Rex was great overall - despite the slow service! Visited: May 2002
Posted by marlyn_reardon
The Rex was a great first vacation to the Caribbean, and we cannot wait to return as soon as possible.

We went at the start of the wet season and, having kept in touch with the weather system back in the UK, I was somewhat worried that I had spent all this money to go to a country where it was going to rain all the time. I was very pleasantly surprised that the sun came out for the vast majority of the time and, even if it did rain, it was over so quickly it did not pose any problems.

The food was okay, there were good and bad days. But it was better than some other all-inclusives I have stayed at (e.g. Grand Canaria!) The service was a bit slow, but the staff was friendly.

Also, the beaches were lovely and uncluttered (unlike the Med), and water sports were brilliant! The swimming pool was also excellent! We never stayed up long enough to be able to sample the night life, but there was some in-house entertainment every night!

It's such a good hotel, we're booking to go back this year. Visited: October 2001

If you want palatial splendor, gourmet food and to have your every whim catered for, don't go to the Rex Grenadian. The bedrooms were, I admit, a bit concrete-boxy, the food varied, and the service was - on rare occasions - a little grumpy.

But if you book a holiday on the understanding that your room is a well-serviced box with a divine view, you will not be disappointed. If you are adventurous with food and are willing to try everything (and there is no shortage of choice at the Rex Grenadian), you will probably find there is something delicious at every meal. And if you smile, you'll find the service is almost universally friendly and attentive.

When we arrived in Grenada, it was 3 weeks after 9/11 and the place was empty. We had booked a hillview room, and, given the number of vacant seaview rooms, asked to be upgraded. The management arranged a prompt transfer of all our luggage that morning.

Don't be put off by the proximity of the airport. Yes, it was just around the corner - I jogged there one morning and it took me 5 minutes. But flights were so infrequent that aircraft noise was not even slightly intrusive.

The public rooms were large, airy and comfortable. Evening entertainment, largely music, was excellent - although we were normally in bed by 10 and rarely experienced all of it.

St George's, the island capital, was only a 20-minute bus-ride away and well worth a visit.

We loved this hotel and had a great time.

An okay place to stay Visited: July 2001
Posted by susan
We just returned from a stay at the Rex Grenadian and were not as impressed as other reviewers. We were in a superior room with our two children. It was not so much the major things about the hotel that were a problem, but the smaller touches. For example, although there were four of us in our room, we were only given three towels and it took 5 days and many requests for this to be resolved. Although the bar was stated to be open until midnight, the staff would try to close it at 11:30 pm due to the regimen that the management was imposing on them.

We were not so lucky with the food some nights and had to search very hard for anything we could eat. The lunch menu was inordinately boring and poorly cooked, often cold and tasteless.

When we were here (it was low season, but school holidays for our children), two of the bars were closed and several of the other features of the hotel became suddenly unavailable for a few days. This became incredibly frustrating after awhile. However, most of the staff were wonderful and made us feel welcome. The beaches were very nice, although there was no gentle dip into the sea.

We would recommend Grenada to anyone, but would think twice about returning to the Rex Grenadian. Even though we are from Europe, we found it hard to think they were catering well to our needs, but perhaps having stayed in other Caribbean hotels we expected more.

Good value, relaxing, low-key resort. Visited: March 2001
Posted by m_vigano
If you are looking for an unpretentious, low-key place to stay in Grenada the Rex could be your place. If you are looking for luxurious accommodations and gourmet food I would recommend that you look elsewhere.

My wife and I were looking for an off-the-beaten-path island (that still had non-stop service from New York) and we didn't want to spend a fortune. We took the all-inclusive option and booked a standard hillside view room for a week. The staff was very accommodating and got to know us personally.

The resort is located a stone’s throw from the airport. The low frequency of flights kept the proximity from being a nuisance. Many of the guests were older middle aged Europeans, mostly from the United Kingdom. The resort does a good job catering to their core clientele.

The grounds were well maintained and featured three ponds containing sea turtles and other wildlife. We arrived during the dry season and it was evident by the brown grass and lack of foliage on the trees.

The decent-sized rooms were painted in a robin’s egg shade of blue and featured the basics necessities. The architecture is of the typical bomb shelter variety. Lots of concrete! While not very appealing to the eye, the thick concrete walls kept the room quiet and cool. We had no television, though there was a television lounge in the lobby. We ended up staying in two different rooms due to a snowstorm at home that extended our stay for four additional days. The oceanview courtesy room we were in on our last day featured satellite television and was definitely a step up.

The resort featured two restaurants—one Asian/Indian inspired (dinner only) and the other a buffet. The buffet (open for breakfast and dinner) was the only option on the all-inclusive plan, though you do get a credit for the sit-down Asian. The food at the buffet was typical--nothing to write home about. We were able to find something to eat every night and just kept the drinks coming. The Asian restaurant was much better, but in keeping with our goal of traveling on a budget we only ate there twice. Overall, the service at the Rex was better than many other Caribbean all-inclusives we have vacationed at.

The poolside lunch restaurant was the one real negative we experienced. It has too limited of a menu if you are staying over two days. Most of the food was either fried or otherwise not appealing to us. We got by on burgers and a better than expected pizza.

The beach was great! There are reefs right off of the beach that were better than some of the snorkeling excursions we went on. So if you want a good value, I can recommend the Rex.
