Azzurra Castle is - in a word - superb. Visited: July 2004 Posted by sbenemer We were married in Grenada with our reception at Azzurra Castle on July 24, 2004, and it was the most magnificent time we can remember. Both of our families (12 adults, 2 children, traveling from the UK and US) absolutely loved their stay at Azzurra the week before the wedding, especially the numerous "chill-out" areas for the guests. The large half-moon couch on the Castle's bayside front, with its proximity to the island breezes and spectacular view, was top-notch. Invariably, all the families congregated there several times during the week. But those looking for an escape could sleep on one of several poolside/bayside beds, and steal away for some quiet time. The lush gardens, since cultivated after early promotional photos hit websites, were beautiful and created even more of a "tropical escape" feel. The pool, while initially I thought was quite small, perfectly accommodated the occasional afternoon dip and provided a nice setting as well. The staff at Azzurra -- Agatha, Louise, Kathy-Anne and Duncan -- were the friendliest, sweetest and most helpful team we can remember. The meals were fantastic, and the gathering times for the families at breakfast, lunch, dinner over a home-cooked meal were priceless. Nils and Bibi, Azzurra's managers, went 200% of the way to make sure our wedding plans went smoothly, and coordinated many of the details that made our wedding beautiful. The reception at Azzurra, in their main hall, was romantically set, with flaming torches on arrival, a roaring fireplace in the lounge and candles everywhere. Our only issues -- and these were due to nature, not Azzurra -- were the intense humidity and the ridiculous amount of bugs. Bring your bottle of "Off" and retreat to the bedrooms (or bayside couch) to cool off. In a word, superb. Visited: July 2003 Posted by thierry From the moment we arrived at the castle, we new this would be perfect. If you're looking for an amazing family vacation (with kids in separate rooms!), or a place where a group of friends can get together - this is it. The property is magnificent, spotless and has a relaxed, open-air atmosphere that oozes "vacation". The setting and location are private and offer fantastic sea breezes and wonderful sunrises. And now about the staff. In a word, extraordinary. They are always there when you need them, and they are flexible, friendly and willing to cater to your needs. Yet they disappear to allow you the privacy you seek on vacation. We do have a couple of notes for you to be aware of: 1) The beds are foam mattresses, and my family found them quite stiff. 2) The boat is fairly basic. Although it is a 32-foot boat, it is fairly simple. It does however get the job done. About Grenada: We were a little dissapointed in the island in terms of the beaches. They are not of the same quality as say the Bahamas. None the less, they are clean and the water is warm and translucent. The island is under-developed compared to others, which gives it a remote get-away charm. But if you are looking for places to get dressed up to go dine out, Grenada is not it. This is a laid back island that moves at its own pace. Food is expensive, but everything you need for the villa is available. So if I had to rate the villa, I would give it a 12 out of 10. I had very high expectations and they were exceeded. I rate Grenada a 7 out of 10. And finally, I rate Where-to-stay.com a 10 out of 10. Connie Wood met our needs perfectly with this great match. Connie does not know it yet, but we are already planning to book our next vacation with her shortly! If you are looking for a great family getaway, to a far away place (it takes a day to get there), this is the vacation for you. Azzurra Castle provided an excellent holiday. Visited: July 2002 Posted by skarl While the Castle looked great on the website, it was even grander when we saw it in person. We went there for a special occasion and from the moment we arrived we felt relaxed and at home. The staff was great. Deslyn, the manager, was a wonderful lady whose hard work and sense of humor made a great vacation even greater. She deserves a BIG raise. If you are looking for the nicest accommodations, the most beautiful scenery, the best snorkling out your back door, and the most comfortable environment, Azzurra Castle can't be beat.
