I had a wonderfull time at Hotel Montana.
The staff was very polite and well trained. The food was delicious, and the rooms were very confortable. Also, the view was breathtaking. I will stay there on my next visit to Haiti. I loved it.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone. |

The hotel was nice. However, I was nearly mugged on several occasions while touring the country. Haiti did not seem to be a very welcoming place to vacation. |

I stayed at Montana for five days and I enjoyed every moment of it. Everything - the food (delicious), staff (well mannered and quite friendly), entertainment (near the pool was culturally relaxing), room (very nice, cool, clean and spacious), was excellent!
I've visited Haiti on a yearly basis and have always stayed here. It takes my breath away and makes me forget about the stress at home or that I'm even in Haiti. I brought my friend from Puerto Rico here with me this past visit and she's even considering returning with a group of other friends in August.
Hotel Montana is beautiful and worth every penny and trip taken, except that you have to spend US dollars rather than Haitian dollars.
I've stayed at other Hotels in Haiti and none other could compare to the luxury, hospitality, service, beauty, cuisine or tranquility, such as Montana.I would recommend Hotel Montana to everyone, especially for a honeymoon or to simply get away. Go! You'll love it. |

Service: 4
Room: 4
Food: 4
Staff: 5
I am returning to Haiti in Feb 2002 with 40+ people and I cannot wait. The only problem is that you tend to forget you are in Haiti while staying at the Montana.

There is one aspect of this hotel that rates 5 stars...the view, the view the VIEW! The view of the country of Haiti from this hotel is SPECTACULAR! (I don't use this word often and I choose capital letters in this case). You can see from Ile de la Gonave to the north end of Lac Azuie. You are able to see the entire bay of Port-au-Prince. What does this mean? Nothing, unless you have a map of Haiti; then you’ll understand how spectacular that is. The architecture is wonderful.
Okay, the good stuff mentioned, now the bad. I speak more French then the hotel staff speaks English—and I don't speak French. Take a quick course in French or Creole before you go.
Training of hotel staff can be improved. I was at the bar trying to order a Remy Martin and the bartender was clueless about what it was. (Hint: the French word for "Remy Martin" is "Remy Martin"). At the front desk some of the staff speaks English, and some do not.
Bring a box lunch because the food is terrible. Bring your money with you when coming to Port-au-Prince. The concept of the ATM machine is a really neat idea that is being discussed by all of the bank execs in Haiti.
The country is not as bad off as the news likes to report, but it is obviously a struggling economy that is trying to get it's footing. By the way, here are two things that nobody tells you about when going to this country. The taxis are surprisingly expensive ($30 US dollars from the airport to the hotel), and $30 US dollars airport tax to get out of the country. Be prepared for both.
For going out at night, stick to Petion-ville and you should be pretty safe. That's where the best clubs are anyway.
Overall, I would stay here again. It is in a very strategic location for vacation or for business.

What a truly beautiful place to stay.. The HOTEL MONTANA! Visited: November 1999 |

What a truly beautiful hotel!! The HOTEL MONTANA captures the very essence of the tropics! The hotel lobby is decorated in the true caribbean style. It is absolutly beautiful! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pool area is filled with plants and flowers of many descriptions. It is VERY well kept and clean. The pool itself just sparkles! There are plenty of chairs ( some padded and some not ) to lounge in. It would be no problem to spend an entire day just soaking up the beauty at poolside. The bar/resturant area is beyond words. The view is spectacular! Parts are covered and some parts are uncovered so that you can bask in the beauty that overshadows Port-Au-Prince. The food is delicious and the servings are plenty. Anyone who chooses the HOTEL MONTANA in Haiti will thoroughly enjoy your stay and you will definitly NOT be disappointed. |
