My mate and I were at Ciboney during the last week the resort was opened before it closed for renovations due to it being bought by the Sandals company. My expectations were that it would be nice but may have a little wear and tear being it was one of the oldest all-inclusives in Jamaica. I was a little correct, but wrong in thinking the service would suffer because of it.
Ciboney was simply gorgeous around the grounds. Our suite was very well stocked (full kitchen, fridge, living room etc.) and we ended up getting a pool all to ourselves. The pool areas for each villa were very nicely layed out and came in handy on those steamy Jamaican nights when you don't want to go too far for a romantic plunge.
The restaurants were very very good, especially the one down on Ciboney's beach area which was across the street from the main hotel grounds. We had dinner right on the beach, waves softly crashing, violins playing, it was the best, most romantic scene you could imagine.
Both pool areas, and adjoining bars, were very clean, fun, and the bar service was great. The bar tenders were very, very friendly and quick with your order. The snack huts nearby were the same. The jerk chicken was worthy of an award in my book.
Now I know that with the Sandals buyout, the prices may have jumped up a bit from what we paid. But I can say, for the price, Ciboney was right up there with any all-inclusive for quality, romance, and relaxation. |

The best time to go is New Year's Eve. The staff is always friendly and attentive. On New Year's Eve, the entire staff dresses up and parties with the guests. What a blast! Although tipping is not allowed, if you slip them something they are very appreciative.
The in-room dining is a must. Someone comes to your villa and cooks you a gourmet dinner. As you're dining on your balcony overlooking the stars, he sits down next to you and serenades you with his guitar. Unforgettable!
The only downfall was the bus ride back to the airport. |

We had a fantastic honeymoon. Visited: December 1969 |

My husband and I chose this place as our honeymoon destination, and we had a wonderful time.
The rooms were adorable, and pretty much what we had expected. We had a fantastic view over the ocean, and loved the little day trips offered for a little extra fee.
One down side was that only the house wine and house beer were free. If you want a different wine or beer, you have to pay for it. However, mixed drinks were also free - and they were delicious.
The food was great, but we tended to find the same flavors used in all the restaurants whether we were eating Italian or Oriental.
The amenities were tons of fun, and we enjoyed everything from kayaking and snorkeling to the day spa.
Overall, we had a time-to-remember and plan on visiting other Sandal resorts in the future. |

The best value for your money. Visited: December 1969 |

Being a little wary and getting off the bus ride in Ciboney, I spent 5 minutes watching my luggage making sure no one was going to take it (traveling alot, you never know where you are). The bell captain looked at me and said "you dont have to worry, I'll watch your bags, nothing ever happens here". Ushered into the great house, we were asked to have a seat and they gave of all drinks.
ALL of the employees were dressed superbly. After describing the resort, Jitneys (golf carts) would then drive you to your unit (four apartments per unit) with a private pool at each unit. Now, remember, some units are better than others, so if you get one you don't really like, call down to the desk and ask them (and be nice) if they have another room. They were amazingly accommodating to me.
The rooms were huge with separate kitchens. Two bottles of rum, two bottles of vodka and a few others were in the room with bottles of coke and sprite and even ting(kinda like carbonated orange juice).
The pool was cold on the two times my wife and I stayed at Ciboney but I still went in. Four restaurants, all amazing. I've never been to a nicer restaurant(orchids). Beautiful dishes and silverware. I was still hungry and asked if I could have more. The waiter said(as you will hear the entire time (and you will end up saying) "no problem mon". (also no problem and irie).
The grounds were impeccable and the colors amazing. The entire property is surrounded by a barbed wire fence so you feel REALLY safe(and as I said, I don't trust anyone). It was wonderful.
Your room has a wall safe and you wear the key on your wrist. You do not carry anything with you(money, wallet, etc.) since you are NOT ALLOWED to tip and I'm a tipper. They can get fired for it. I made some nice friendships with some of the workers and still talk with them.
I would highly recommend this place. This is not a wild place. This is a place to go if you feel romantic(alot of honeymooners). There is a workout room and spa with some treatments included in your price. That's it. I can't imagine a better place but im still looking.
On a final note this was how WE stayed. They have honeymoon suites with a pool and Jacuzzi which opens up to the sky, no windows here for privacy and in the great house are apartment style and less expensive. |

The location offered a fine beach, soft sand and plenty of water/non-water sports to keep yourself occupied. Among our favorite spots was a high promontory above the beach, from which we enjoyed several sunsets.
The choices among the restaurants was difficult, because they were all great. However, we wound up dining at the seaside Italian restaurant, having found one waiter we particularly favored.
As a Radisson employee, I was able to stay at a slightly discounted rate. Still, this offered great value even at full price, especially if you are a drinker (my wife and I were not). Don't discount having your own private pool, either; it's great for a quick, private cool-off.
If you are going to go all-inclusive, this is the choice. One caveat: the bus ride to the location is 40 minutes of bumpy roads traveled at a pretty good clip. |
