My husband and I decided to honeymoon in Ocho Rios. Couples Hotel was the best place we have ever been to. The service, staff, food, and drinks were incredible.
We are planning to revisit in 2009, and we can't wait to come back. |

Returning here is like coming home. Visited: November 2006 |

This was our eighth visit to Couples Ocho Rios. We first spent three nights at Couples Sans Souci, then seven nights here.
We had mostly rain which did put a damper on our stay. However, the staff worked hard to keep everyone happy.
The food was great, and the drinks free flowing.
We will be returning again this coming February. |

We tried this resort last year, and loved it enough to go back.
Our flight out of Newark was very delayed, as the plane was frozen. As soon as we got to Montego Bay, everything clicked. Air shuttle folks were waiting for us as we exited customs. No time was spared, and we were at the resort. FYI... Repeat guests are entitled to one-way air transport to the local airstrip, about 10 minutes from the resort. Return air transport can be purchased later.
We had an ocean view room this time, and that made for some great breakfast views. (Breakfast in your room is available at no extra charge.) The room was clean, and everything worked as expected. Food and bar service was top notch. Drink service on the beach was a wonderful thing!
The staff was very friendly and treated repeat guests very well. Service was very similar to last year.
There were perks for repeat guests, in addition to the air shuttle flight. There was a floral arrangement in our room, t-shirts, repeat guest cocktail and dinner, and massages. Many of the staff remembered us from the year prior.
We went scuba diving every day, which was really cool. Certified divers get to go on some of the more interesting dives. Although, non certified folks can still do a "resort course", and dive the same day.
I still have nothing but praise for this resort. We're looking forward to visit #3, in 2005! |

It was the wedding of my dreams. Visited: August 2003 |

If you want romance and great service, Couples Ocho Rios is for you. I got married here on September first, and I could not have asked for a better wedding. Everything was beautiful, on time, and included in our price.
Our one-bedroom oceanview suite was perfect with the most wonderful view in the world. I loved all the water activities, especially snorkeling. The staff was wonderful as our room was cleaned twice a day, and the bar service was great (the best virgin drinks in the world).
If you choose to come here - you won't be disappointed. |

I cannot even begin to say how much my wife and I enjoyed our stay at Couples Ocho Rios. The room was very nice, with a great view. The room was made up every morning and our beds turned down for us every evening when we returned from our activities.
The trip was for our 10th anniversary, so we did a renewal of vows. The wedding staff took care of all the details. It was absolute perfection - a very romantic setting. There was no stress and no problems.
The staff was truly excellent. Tipping was not an option. I tried to give a tip and it was refused. You have to meet E.B. (the Energizer Bunny). Her real name was Cachetne. You will never meet anyone with that much spunk and energy. Meshegay was also a gem, and also rarely sat still.
Colin in the scuba area was a super warm and friendly person. He went out of his way to help.
In all fairness to the people who wrote previous reviews and did not love the place or the service.... it is Jamaica after all. Jamaican time is different than the rest of the world. If you can not enjoy yourself here, I do not have a clue as to where you could enjoy yourself more. It was the best vacation I have ever had.
My wife and I have only been back from our trip to Couples for a week. We are already planning to go back next year.
The day we were to leave for home, I was really depressed. I did not want to leave. Cachetne came over to see us off, and gave me a big hug.
We are already counting the days until we can go back.

It was great! Visited: April 2003 |

This was our first visit to Jamaica. We decided to do the Couples Double Take program. We spent half of our week in Ocho Rios and half in Negril. The service was great at both hotels! We did not have one problem. The staff was friendly and willing to help us out with anything!
We skipped the bus ride from the airport to Ocho Rios and chartered a plane (AirLink) to take us instead. The cost was $80 per person. It was well worth it since it only took 20 minutes to get there compared to three hours by bus.
Ocho was a traditional/Hollywood-style resort that has really been taken care of. The beach was small but private (which was nice). The view was beautiful!
We ate at both the Bayside and the French restaurant which you need reservations for. They were great! You need to dress up for the French resturant.
Howard (on the entertainment staff) was absolutely hiliarious. Also, you must go to Dunn's River Falls. It was worth it - even though it was a very "touristy" thing to do. It was absolutely beautiful!
The pictures they take of you at Dunn's River Falls are not very good. Look for a guy there who works for Couples to take your pictures. You can get your pictures from the resort. They are much, much better.
Be prepared for a little bit of hassle when you go to leave the falls. You have to go through a market to get back to the bus. This is where we did our shopping, so we didn't have to go back out to that again. There was also a little market outside the front gate of the resort guests could walk to if you didn't want to go on the shopping trip.
We didn't do anything else in Ocho Rios other than go to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville for a pool party. They had a big waterslide into the pool.
We just took our time here and relaxed. It was perfect!
The flight between the two resorts was provided by Couples if you stay with them more than six nights total. It took about an hour to get to Negril by plane.
Try the Hummingbird drink. It is frozen and absolutely amazing! The Bob Marley is a shot, and is the worst thing possible. You can see the liquors separately in the glass - yellow, red and green.
These resorts had a mix of all ages - some 20s, but mostly 30s, 40s and up. It was great to be here with friends. It made the time here so much fun. |

This was our third visit to Couples Ocho Rios. The staff treated us so well, it was almost like going home. The food was great and plentiful. There were plenty of activities if you want, or your can do nothing at all.
Couples Ocho Rios is an older resort, but has old world charm. They are updating many of the rooms. To improve service, they are now taking reservations at both Le Gourmet and the Bayside restaurants. |

This resort left something to be desired. Visited: February 2003 |

Jamaica was beautiful, but our stay at Couples Ocho Rios left a little bit to be desired. The water pressure in the shower was little more than a trickle, as was the pressure in the sink. The hotel must have been booked to capacity, as watersports and other things that one needs reservations for filled up quickly, leaving you unable to scuba, snorkel, or whatever. Unless we got to the beach before 9am to get a lounge chair, we were out of luck for the rest of the day. People would go down to the beach at 8am and "mark" a chaise lounge with a towel, book, etc. (even if they weren't going to sit in it right away) because chairs were so hard to come by.
Although we were under the impression that there was "no tipping," bus drivers taking us on outings and the guides at the falls were expecting to be tipped. There was a lot of food and a lot of variety, but the quality suffered. The coffee and bread were delicious. Overall, our trip was a comedy of errors that I can't even begin to describe here. |

This was our second trip to Jamaica, the first being MoBay. We paid a little more this time, but got significantly more.
Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted and seated in the lobby, served cocktails, and completed check-in. Our baggage was brought up in short order.
The grounds were really beautiful. They had a nice beach, nice garden, an aviary, private jacuzzis in "the jungle", and a private island.
There were multiple restaurants and bars on the premises. Breakfast and lunch were both buffet style. Dinners varied by restaurant. During two nights, the restaurants were closed. Instead, dinner was served on the beach or at poolside.
Activities were numerous. Of particular interest were scuba and water skiing - normally premium activities. Non-certified divers were allowed to participate, after taking a 'resort' orientation course (PADI Discovery). You may do your PADI Open Water certification while at the resort, for an additional cost. Sailing, kayaking and windsurfing were also available.
There was drink service on the beach, which was a nice touch. It was prompt and frequent!
The staff was all pleasant and very accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfy.
We can hardly wait to get back again! |

We honeymooned at Couples Ocho Rios December 2002/ January 2003. We had such an amazing time and will return soon.
The service, food, drinks, and entertainment were all A++. I have never seen harder working people in my life. Everything was included and we could drink and eat as much as we wanted at any hour we wanted! Definitely do Dunn's River Falls and the horseback tour! Have a wonderful time! |

Disappointing and overpriced. Visited: December 2002 |

Our first vacation of the year started badly with the failure of Couples to provide transport as promised from Kingston Airport. As a result we landed at 5:45pm and didn't reach the resort until 1:15am, totally exhausted. It then took nearly an hour for us to finally make it to our second allocated room.
The first room could not be unlocked and we were kept waiting in the corridor for almost 30 minutes. For the next 3 nights we had interrupted sleep from building work and it took 10 days to receive an apology from management.
Generally the resort, restaurants and pool area were overcrowded. The Calabash service in the evening was poor and the food was terrible. Bayside had a long wait, good food but spoilt by no provision for uncovered seating when it started raining. Verandah was probably the best restaurant. Gourmet was overrated, as the menu was only changed twice during our stay and therefore the variety of dishes available was disappointing. Also the strict dress code was not adhered to in this restaurant or at any of the special functions for the New Year. We found that the main bar often involved long waits before being served and it was often difficult to find a waitress to order a drink from when away from the bar.
Overall we did enjoy our stay, but we feel the package is overpriced.
If you do go to this Couples look out for the 'Energizer Bunny' she's brilliant. |

We had been dreaming of a trip to Jamaica for 15 years, and finally got there 8/29 thru 9/3. The ride from Montego Bay to Ochie was interesting, and should not be missed, (once!). Take the flight back, as the views from the plane were great.
We were given a room that had a nice ocean view, but we couldn't see the beach. We had hoped to be right on the beach, as we came with only one intention and that was to sit on the beach. We asked for a different room with a beach view, and they moved us to a beautiful room right above the beach with terrific views! No questions asked.
We relaxed the entire time on the beach, but the resort had plenty of water activities including water skiing, scuba, snorkeling, etc. There was volleyball and many other things to do. Food and drinks were available almost anytime, you just had to be prepared to serve yourself sometimes. Dinners at all the resturants were very good. The beach was nice, but only 1/4 mile long, so there were no long strolls on the beach.
The resort definitely catered to couples, and had many areas for couples to relax together (hammocks and secluded hot tubs).
We will definitely return to Couples. Next time, though, we are going to do four days in Ochie, and four days at Couples in Negril. |

This was a great resort.
There were plenty of things to do, but it never seemed crowded.
The staff was nothing but pleasant, friendly and helpful.
My husband and I had a splendid time on our honeymoon. We got upgraded for free to an oceanfront room without asking. I would totally recommend this resort to anyone. |

Absolutely Disappointing Visited: April 2002 |

After our 3 hour (yes, 3 hour) ride from the airport, we were greeted by a smiling staff who checked us in quickly. And that was the end of the 5-star service. Our room was very nice, but during renovation paint had been poured down our bathroom sink's drain and it was completely blocked. The front desk did not address the problem.
There was only 1 bar open during the day with limited staff, and when we would attempt to order drinks, we were usually ignored for at least 20 minutes.
The final straw was being informed (in writing) that our bus to the airport would be leaving at noon. At 11:00 a.m., I got a nasty call from the front desk asking what was taking us so long and when I told them what our reservation slip said (that they had slipped under our door), there were no apologies. Just a "well, could you hurry up, your shuttle is leaving now" and a maid banging on our door asking how long we would be.
I will never visit this resort again. |

This was our second year here and there will be many returns!
Our room was beautiful, and what a view! On both visits, the staff was very courteous and helpful. They were always smiling and acting as if they were glad we were there.
The water pressure had a lot to be desired, but that was a small thing, overall.
We had the opportunity to meet the manager and owner this past trip and attended a cocktail party and dinner for return vistors only. It was wonderful. |

We loved the ambiance and the activity. Visited: January 2002 |

The resort grabbed us from the very beginning. I will never forget the moment I got off the shuttle, stepped into the lobby. It was open air on one side, with a wall of windows/doors opening onto the crystal clear blue Caribbean waters.
We were immediately greeted by someone who took our luggage, brought us champagne and brought us to a comfy seating area to fill out all the check-in paperwork.
It was an older structure, but that added to the charm, in my opinion.
The beach was pretty good, although it was not as nice as at some other resorts we've stayed at.
The service was absolutely outstanding. We did encounter quirky things that some may view as poor service. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. Sometimes service was a little slow by American standards. Jamaica simply had a more relaxed pace than in the U.S. But for us, it just added to the relaxing experience.
The water sports staff was absolutely great. Instructors were so encouraging and patient!
We really loved that the main dining area was open air. Nothing beats starting your morning with a plate of fresh fruit and Jamaican coffee on a covered patio overlooking the Caribbean. We also liked that the nightly music, shows and disco were on a stage in the same main dining area. It was nice to have the warm breeze blowing in as we watched the show or danced at the disco.
At the Bayside Restaurant, they had strolling musicians every night we ate there. Sitting at an open air restaurant jutting into the sea, waves crashing on the side of the structure, romantic live music, warm breeze... what could be better? Some evenings just before sunset they had a saxophonist playing out on the pier, which just really added to the ambiance.
Here, "all-inclusive" meant "all-inclusive". There were no limitations on the number of times you could eat at the al a carte restaurants. Instruction was included with all the watersports (except scuba). And "no tipping" really meant "no tipping".
The nightlife was not quite as lively as another all-inclusives I've stayed at. After the nightly entertainment, the disco ensued for a couple of hours. After that, there was still a regular bar and a piano bar with sing alongs until the wee hours.
It was definitely a good place for couples looking for just the right mix of rest and relaxation and activity. Also, for us, the perfect balance of refinement without being stuffy. |

Perfect resort for a romantic getaway Visited: July 2001 |
| Posted by rbruns1 |
 |
My husband and I just returned from Couples Ocho Rios and we had a great time. The resort is beautiful. Their gardens are just amazing and the hot tubs hidden in the gardens are really romantic. The beach was clean and of a good size with plenty of lounge chairs for everyone.
We had an oceanview room, which was really nice. My husband and I would listen to the waves crash against the shore at night. There are also hammocks throughout the resort. There are two really unique swinging chairs located in the gardens under a tree that we enjoyed as well. We even fell asleep in them once. We enjoyed eating at the restaurant Bayside because it is over the ocean and a candlelit dinner.
The only thing I did not like about the resort was that the shower had absolutely no water pressure. Ladies, just get your hair braided so you don't have to worry about trying to wash it. They do hair braiding at their salon.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this resort and I can't wait to go back!

My husband and I recently returned from our honeymoon to Couples Ocho Rios. It was wonderful. The resort is charming and the water is the most spectacular shade of blue. There is a bird avairy and small jungle with hot tubs and swings scattered throughout. There are a myriad of activities, but the staff does not bug you to death to participate. While we were there we met some really great people - some of whom we will keep in touch with for a long time. The staff was great, especially the staff at the dive shop - they made diving there an unforgettable experience.
The view from our room was unbelievable and the ocean breezes kept us pleasantly cool during our entire stay. The trip to Dunn's River Falls is not to be missed. We have no complaints except that it was very hard to leave - I would definitely recommend this resort. |
