My husband and I spent a week at Jamaica Inn in late September, and would highly recommend the Inn to other couples.
The resort was picturesque, situated on a stretch of private beach that was just steps away from the guest rooms. We stayed in a beautiful balcony suite, which had a large porch that overlooked the ocean and had incredible sunset views. It was surprising that the balcony suites were the cheapest rooms at the resort because the more expensive Garden Veranda Suites did not have as nice of views as the cheaper balcony suites located just above.
The Garden Suites’ porches were also not very private because they were located on the ground floor and hotel guests would constantly walk by.
We would recommend the deluxe ocean front suites, which were located right on the beach and offered more privacy. Although, all of the rooms were very attractive.
The only problem we had with our room was there was no hot water, other guests at the hotel had the same problem but the climate was so mild that it didn’t really bother us. I am not sure if this is the case all year round or if they were having a problem due to damage from the hurricane.
We were very impressed with the resort's lovely restaurant, which served delicious food from an ever-changing menu. The restaurant was particularly romantic at night because guests dined by candlelight under the stars.
Our only complaint would be the dinner music which was usually cheesy love songs, pub tunes, or classical, instead of Reggae. We were not expecting a party atmosphere at Jamaica Inn, but we did expect to hear Reggae music at night even if it was just a CD, instead of Whitney Houston. Jamaica Inn would not be the resort to go to if you are looking for a festive party atmosphere, it would be prefect for people who are content to just relax at night.
The beach at Jamaica Inn was paradise, it would be very easy to spend your entire vacation sitting under the grass beach umbrellas or swimming in the calm ocean, but there was also a lot to do in town.
The staff was fantastic and catered to guests' every need. However, we were not impressed with the management at the resort and did not like how they handled a booking glitch when we checked in.
All in all, we would highly recommend Jamaica Inn. We think it would be very hard to not have wonderful time staying at this resort.

This was our second time at the Jamaica Inn and we loved it even more this time. We loved the simplicity of this place coupled with elegance and civility.
The grounds were even more lush than the last time we were here; the beach was heavenly and the water was the most beautiful aqua-blue, mixed with splashes of green reflected from the trees. The sand was like fine powder and the beach huts were wonderful hideaways from the scorching Caribbean sun.
The rooms were comfortable. To be very honest, we have stayed at more luxurious hotels, but what we really liked about the Jamaica Inn was that it felt like home. Everyone, starting with the owners, the desk staff, the waiters, the managers, treated us with so much warmth and genuine hospitality.
The chef stopped every evening at each table to ask if we liked the food -- what a rare touch! Besides that, the food was wonderful, fresh and delectable, it was so nice that they cared enough to ask if we were happy or not with our dinner. Our staff waiter was like a surrogate mother, making sure we were content with every minute detail of the dinner.
As the morning would come and the birds would start chirping, I would open the louvered doors and look at that magnificent view of the well-manicured grounds and the beach ahead. I couldn't help but to say that this was simply "another day in Paradise".
As others have commented, this was not a place for "action". There was nothing happening after dinner but to gaze at the stars (or into each other's eyes, if you chose). But, if you are looking for a totally relaxing, refreshing, pampering and warm experience without the hustle and bustle of a big hotel, Jamaica Inn is definitely the place to go!

We stayed a week at the Jamaica Inn and were not disappointed. The property was absolutely gorgeous, with a beautiful white sand beach and unbelievable gardens. The rooms were spacious and well appointed, and the staff was gracious and friendly. I highly recommend this property!

My wife and I checked into the Jamaica Inn and were thrilled to hear that the place was only a third full. We would have our own beach! Well, it was true. We felt that we had the place to ourselves. Even after the place filled up to 100% occupancy later in the week, we still felt that we had the place to ourselves.
This place was very slow and very elegant. If you are looking for parties, dancing till dawn, etc., Jamaica Inn is not for you. If you are looking for a beautiful hotel to relax and "do nothing", it is the perfect place. We read books, took naps on the beach, took naps on the balcony, just relaxed.
The food was beyond fabulous! They had an outstanding breakfast (excellent fresh fruit), tasty lunches and four-star dining at night.
The staff was one of the best parts. We met at least five employees who had been there over 30 years each! They instantly made us feel like we were best friends.
Bottom-line, we wouldn't go to Sandals or Beaches right down the coast for hafl the price of Jamaica Inn. Enough said.

This quiet resort exceeded our expectations.Visited: February 2003

We had the pleasure of spending almost two weeks at the Jamaica Inn during the latter part of February 2003. We were very impressed with both the resort and the staff.
This was a resort that seemed to cater to guests seeking quiet relaxation in a beautiful setting. The resort reminded me of a traditional resort and that was due both because it was built in the 50s and because the staff had a gracious way about them that one does no see very often today.
The resort recently did away with its coat and tie policy at dinner, but we found that many male guests still wore both a coat and tie. I think dinner is a little less formal at other times of the year, but February was their biggest month for repeat guests. It was certainly acceptable for men to wear a polo shirt and slacks to dinner.
The resort was located on a beautiful beach that was great for swimming. While most guests seemed content to sit on the beach, they did have some limited non-motorized water activities. Room service was available for all meals and afternoon tea. We stayed on the all-inclusive package and almost always had breakfast and lunch on our porch which was located right on the beach.
We could not have been more impressed with the service that we received. We went expecting a very quiet and "old-school" experience and that was exactly what we got.

We stayed at this resort for our honeymoon about 6 years ago and just returned from our second stay here. From the moment we stepped out of the car and were greeted with a warm "Welcome home!" from Lloyd, we felt like we had never left.
Everything was much the same except for the evening dress code which has been relaxed. Most of the staff were the same and the service was wonderful. I thought Rupert, one of the bartenders, summed it up very well when he said "It's not the place you love, it's the people".
My husband and I usually like to try different resorts, but we're already making plans to return to Jamaica Inn next year.

My husband and I just returned from the Jamaica Inn and are trying hard to readjust to being self-sufficient! We were cheerfully waited on hand and foot by efficient, friendly, professional staff who couldn't do enough for us.
Upon arriving at Montego Bay airport we were greeted by our driver who gave us a letter of welcome from the hotel and had cold beverages waiting for us in his immaculate car. After about a 1 ˝-hour drive we arrived at the inn. Check-in took moments and we were escorted to a lovely room with a huge veranda overlooking the gardens and beach that had soft, comfy upholstered furniture and a table for eating at. The grounds are far lovelier than the photos on their website, with many kinds of flowers, trees and shrubs. In fact, we were given a private tour of the grounds by the head gardener, Henry, who was very knowledgeable. The grounds and the beach are groomed every day, chairs are wiped down and clean and functioning. The pool was in excellent shape and also cleaned daily.
There is little to do here besides read, relax and sun. There are two brand-new sunfish that my husband, a sailor, declared to be in perfect condition. Two kayaks are available and though new are not very comfortable. Snorkeling equipment is available and is clean and new. There is great snorkeling right off the private beach and the swimming there is superb. There is no television or radio in the rooms. Lastly, the concierge is happy to arrange a shopping trip or help you choose from a myriad of activities in nearby Ocho Rios such as hiking, biking, swimming with dolphins, horseback riding and more.
The food here was outstanding, and breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner were included in our rate. Lunch was additional but very reasonable and could be ordered and served in your room or on the beach in addition to also being served in the restaurant. Dinner, served at 8:00, was a multi-course delight, with choices of appetizer, soup, salad, 4 choices of entrees and dessert. You can dine privately at your own table or join someone else if you choose. Live music played during cocktail hour and dinner and some folks danced under the stars.
As others have indicated, this is definitely a small, quiet, private place, and no young children are allowed. If you are looking for total relaxation and impeccable service then this is the place for you. People have been returning to this fine establishment for 50 years for a very good reason - it's one of the best!

We just returned from our honeymoon at Jamaica Inn. The resort was even better than I had imagined. The grounds were beautiful, the rooms were furnished with antiques and each had a huge verandah. The service was excellent, as was the food--especially the 5-course gourmet dinners on the terrace.
This is definitely a small, quiet resort. If you are looking for activities and a lively nightlife, it is not the place for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for a place to relax, enjoy a gorgeous beach and impeccable service, I would highly recommend Jamaica Inn. We will definitely return.

If you want glitz forget it. If you appreciate conscientious personnel, excellent food and lolling on a private beach—stay here! The rooms are big and comfortable.
The Jamaica Inn is from another era…civilized and seductive.

To begin, someone is waiting to drive you from the Montego Bay airport to the hotel. No buses or waiting in line. Beverages are provided for your 1 1/2 hour drive. Our room was located in the west wing which provided the ultimate in privacy. We were personally escorted to our room by the owner of the hotel.
Our room overlooked the reef and our balcony was easily 250-300 square feet. Two meals a day were included during off season(starts April 16) and we could eat in our room or at the restaurant.
The beach was very clean, the resort was kept up very nicely. The staff were very courteous. Afternoon tea with sandwiches and cake was served in the afternoon.
This resort is not for people who are looking for activities. It is for those who would truly want to relax. Tours are available from the hotel for the more active. The clientele was a mixture of British, German and American.
Very classy place, we can't wait to go back.

This place is first class. It's like a slice of the early 1900's slotted into Jamaica. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff are excellent. Crochet on the lawns before tea. Need I say more, you'll have to go yourself to find out. You won't be disappointed.
