4.0 stars I loved Tensing Pen Resort. Visited: November 2007

It was truly decadent. It is one of my favorites on the cliffs.

They have a very limited food selection, but a beautiful pool and accommodations. It's a great vibe.

This was, by far, the best kept secret of Jamaica. We are travel agents, and we tell about where we have been. We are still talking about Tensing Pen Resort. When can we go back?

The whole staff is wonderful, and the property is glorious. The stay was to die for. When people ask where to stay in Negril, it is Ten Seng Pen. As our favorite bartender there would say "every time".

We will stay here again very soon, and we cannot wait for the pool.

I stayed here twice. I never had a problem, and I was 100% relaxed.

It was the heaven.

4.0 stars This is the perfect hideaway spot! Visited: April 2005

My husband and I stayed here while friends were married at a commercial resort nearby. We were in Rock Cottage 1. It was perfect as we had the fresh breeze off of the water. We could sit on the lovely wood, thick cushioned deck chairs on the patio and watch the sunset on the water.

The staff was friendly, and we felt very safe. There was a little store across the street where we could buy any little things we needed (i.e. rum and snacks)!

We also walked down the road in the daytime to have jerk chicken and eat at local spots. We had the most fun meeting other travelers, chatting with locals, and just relaxing.

We could dive off of the stone ledges, float around, or go to the side cabana for a full body massage. It was truly an escape from reality, and I highly recommend it as a place to unwind.

The only reason I did not give it one more star was because we had to fend for ourselves for lunch or dinner (if we did not order it at breakfast) - breakfast was included. If you order dinner, you will be treated to the catch of the day or the latest chef specialties.

If you don't want a resort packed with people and bingo games being shouted out, this is the spot for you!

Tensing Pen is better than ever. Ray and I just spent a wonderful week here. It could not have been better.

The staff and grounds were warm and generous. When I close my eyes, I feel the sun and hear the sea. I cannot wait to go back.

This property was stunning and offered perfect accommodations. The bungalow we were in was very comfortable and the decor exquisite.

The staff was some of the most friendly people we have met at a vacation spot. Meals were prepared at the resort in a beautifull restaurant a few times a week. We have been lucky to eat there once - our stay was short, only two days before our departure to the UK.

The food - lobster and fish - was excellent. Even though they did not serve dinner every day, the chef was of internationl class - take it from a French traveler who also has spent time at many of the highly rated restaurants in his country.

This exclusive boutique hosted quality people in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere; no one was overly intrusive knowing that if you came here it was to find peace and rest - and for most - romance with their partner.

Both my partner and I enjoyed every second of it. Tensing Pen was very much an outdoor experience, tanning on the rocks, cliff diving, swimming and snorkeling in a crystal clear sea.

We enjoyed two perfect romantic days - an ideal honeymoon destination. We will come back.

5.0 stars Overall, we had a good experience. Visited: May 2003

We arrived on a Sunday, driving in from the Montego Bay Airport with their recommended driver, Tony. He was very friendly, and had a lot to say about Jamaica, and got our trip started off on the right foot.

The moment we got there, we were astonished by the beauty and tranquility of the place! The water was crystal clear, and there were just enough trees to shield the majority of the sun, but let in a warm, gentle breeze. We upgraded our room from a small bungalow style, to a more luxury setting, the Garden Studio.

We had dinner prepared by their cook the first night; our meal was superb, and they had no problems accommodating my special request for chicken in place of shrimp. Their price was more than fair, but we love to sample different restaurants, so we ate out for the majority of our stay.

Overall, it was peaceful, but we had a bit of trouble finding things to do. We were content to relax for a few days, but wanted to spend some of our time seeing the sights, and overall, the staff was not very knowledgable about attractions and day trips. We also had trouble getting the snorkeling equipment that was complimentary, because many times it couldn't be found, or was incomplete.

We had to ask for our linens to be changed, but when we did, the response was polite and it was carried out quickly. We slept like babies, using the mosquito netting and clothes pins to pin it together to keep out the bugs.

Although overall, our trip was quite pleasant, our return ride with their cabby Tony was frightening. He was stoned, to say the least, and not very attentive to what was going on during our drive, almost causing three accidents in the hour and a half drive.

I certainly recommend it to those who wish to relax, most guests didn't leave the resort, and I would definately return, but probably only for a few days.

5.0 stars Tensing Pen was a totally relaxing paradise. Visited: May 2003

From the minute I walked in the gate, I knew I was somewhere special. I came to Jamaica to get away from people, so I came by myself.

The staff and dogs (especially Tens) made me feel like I found a new family. Also, the cliffs and sea were my new friends. I could hear the sea splash against the rocks at night, which was great for sleeping.

The rooms were beautiful. I stayed in the garden room. The cliff diving was also incredible. It was truly paradise. I am already planning a return visit.

4.0 stars An amazingly beautiful and peaceful romantic getaway Visited: July 2001

We stayed here for our honeymoon after getting married elsewhere in Negril. We were amazed by the beauty and peacefulness. We were accustomed to the lush grounds and pathways, but not the seclusion.
Our room was a pillar, thatched-roof hut on the cliffs with a four-poster bed covered with netting. Our patio had rocking chairs and a lantern that overlooked treetops and the ocean. We basked in the enjoyment of sitting there and listening to the ocean, morning, day and night.
The resort does not have a beach, but terraced cliffs where you can lie in the sun or shade, sometimes in complete privacy. The water is crystal clear and snorkeling is good. We jumped off the many cliffs and floated for hours in the water. (The resort has many floats available.) We also enjoyed the many hammocks throughout the grounds.
The food was excellent! We had grilled lobster our last night and they surprised us with a platter of them! When they do not cook, you can use the kitchen and we did for lunches and one dinner.
The staff is nice, but unobtrusive. They are very quiet and leave you to be alone, which is perfect for a romantic getaway.

4.0 stars Best place to stay in Jamaica! Visited: October 2000

What a fantastic place! We stayed in the Rock Cottage right on the Caribbean and it was absolutely wonderful. The ocean waves put us to sleep every night and woke us up every morning. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We loved staying on the cliffs much more than the beach. We will be back again.

5.0 stars One of the most spectacular events in my life! Visited: December 1969

My wife and I have been to Jamaica (5) times. Each time we go we visit other properties for future stays. Tensing Pen was first seen by us when we rented a boat to go snorkeling. As we passed the property we were immediately intrigued by the quiet mystique that seemed to hang over the thatched roofs. We pulled up and asked if we could see the property. The manager was quick to point out that the guests were not to be disturbed and took us on a short tour.

Needless to say, we returned the next year and in fact, I took my mother along who was recovering from a knee replacement, and both of my sisters. We stayed in the great house for a few nights and then my wife and I stayed in the patio while the others stayed in the South House.

I have stayed in a number of places in Jamaica and other tropical islands, but I found Tensing Pen to be the perfect place to go for the true get away from it all feeling. Whether out on the cliff swaying in the breeze on a hammock, or snorkeling around the cliffs, talking to the warm and wonderful Jamaicans staff or enjoying a slice of hard doe bread and a cup of blue mountain coffee, Tensing Pen delivered everything I was looking for in my vacation. We even hired Miss Mae across the road to cook for us a few evenings and the food was exceptional!!!!

The only negative, if it could be called one, was that upon arrival we were taken to the Great House but sort of left on our own to find out about the facility. It would have been nice to have been taken on a small tour and things better explained such as where to get refreshments, ice, how the community kitchen works, etc. We figured things out as we went along without much difficulty though and our stay was one we will never forget!!

5.0 stars Beautiful, peaceful, athletic, private Visited: December 1969

If you like beautiful grounds, your choice of the amount of privacy, the ability to range the Jamaican countryside on your own or the option of guided tours, the option to sun and swim in the beautiful cove--with lovely diving opportunities, and snorkeling this is the place!

Swim along the coast of Jamaica (beware, the current is outward, and storms come on quickly about 4-5 p.m.) from the resort to the lighthouse to the edge of the beach...this is sightseeing that cannot be done any other way.

To play, you may bring a float or snorkel gear...see schools of fish flee before a barracuda...or you may go down to the beach by bus, or up to the famous Rick's, though you can walk if you desire. Eat on the cliff and watch the sun set.

Watch the hummingbirds hover over the tiny bottles of honey...lie on the hammocks or rock nooks, invisible to almost any "room"--myself, I love the Captain's Cove. The surf lulls you to sleep at night.

At dinner, your private porch offers a private dinner with view of water and the vanishing point on the horizon...the stars stretch forever...nothing will wake you until you're ready, because the surf continues... walk a few meters and dive in. The cottage is lovely...go out to eat or use the kitchen--all are friendly, you may ask for nothing more.
