This place is a slice of heaven on earth. Needing a break from the ceaseless winter in Illinois, we found a lover's bliss on the sunny sandy beaches of Royal Plantation. We felt like a king and queen, due to the royal treatment from the 24-hour room service, and a staff whose only role is to please their guests. We loved the evening 3- and 4-piece band, Body and Soul, who let me up on stage one evening to attempt "I Shot the Sheriff" with them. Dave Dacosta, our favorite bartender, was full of island wit and aimed to serve--no drink was too exotic or complicated for him to make. Ask him for his triple-decker flaming shot or a Madiash, a berry and rum delight!
Mornings on the beach couldn't be better with 80 degrees, sun and your own flag to raise when you feel a bit dry--pina coladas or rum punch to the rescue! Dinner with Chef Hugo at any of his outstanding restaurants was more like being an honored guest at a dinner party! Hugo presides over his kitchens with class and flair. The Monday buffet with its roasted suckling pig, lobster tails on the grill, and too many succulent dishes to name was the epitome of gluttony! The dessert bar, with flaming cherries Jubilee presiding was a star-studded finish to the evening. A must is an evening in the French Papillon Restaurant, which offers dinner elegance beyond compare. And with dinner hopping privileges at the other three adjacent resorts, you can enjoy a total of 16 restaurants during your stay! We'll need to go back three more times to try them all! We especially enjoyed the Italian Sanganarro at Beaches Grande Sport; their bar "sported" the most amazing pina coladas we've ever sampled in the Caribbean!
Golf at the Golf Resort was also spectacular. The caddies were very knowledgeable, helpful and the beverage cart ran regularly! Rent some clubs for impressively affordable rates, and take advantage of the included green fees in your package! You'll enjoy beautiful scenery, immaculate fairways and greens, and an enjoyable day. Of course, you should jaunt over to Dunn's River to climb their falls, which is also included in the package. Next time we will take up the Hooves package and go horseback riding through the ocean, but this week, we decided to rest a few days, on the luxurious beach, and just enjoy some quality time together. We give it two thumbs up!

Plantation Inn was the perfect location for our wedding. Visited: December 1969 |

My husband and I chose the Plantation Inn as the location for our wedding and honeymoon. I will never forget the first morning when I pulled the curtains back and saw the magnificent view from our balcony. The water was clear blue and the beach was gorgeous (not to mention the wonderful smell of Blue Mountain Coffee). We felt that Plantation Inn was more traditional and less commercial than other resorts in Jamaica. Several times my husband and I had the beach to ourselves and enjoyed the beautiful white sand. The food was excellent and the staff was friendly.
It was the perfect honeymoon destination. |
