5.0 stars This is my favorite Caribbean getaway. Visited: June 2003

Sans Souci Resort was recommended by friends a year ago. We finally made reservations for this month, purely as a place to get away from a lot of recent stress in our lives. Then we heard that SuperClubs was no longer the operator, and we became a bit concerned.

We went anyway, and how glad we are that we did. We had stayed at another SuperClubs resort before, but this was much, much better.

We received great service, and all the staff was warm, friendly and more than eager to help us in any way. Occupancy was low because of the recent changeover, so it was like we had our own private resort.

The grounds were lovely, the spa services were handled professionally, and the refurbished fitness center was superb. We could not have found a better place to relax and unwind.

In a word ... incredible! I have traveled quite a bit and I'm a fairly picky traveler. It was everything the brochures described and so much more.

The little things were so impressive, like the fresh orchids in our room every day or the fabulous free drycleaning! The staff was wonderful. They were very attentive and very good at learning our names and favorite drinks!

We went swimming with dolphins, and did the Dunn's River Falls and the Blue Mountain Coffee tours, all were arranged by the staff. All were great, but there was so much to do on the resort you would never have to leave.

The spa treatments were all included and fabulous! Even my husband loved them, including the pedicure! We have already booked our return trip for our one-year anniversary!

Oh, and the food was to die for! You have to try the French restaurant! It was incredible!

The Sans Souci was amazing! My husband and I arrived and we were treated like royalty the entire trip.

The people were the friendliest I have ever met. The food was great, and so were the rum punches and the pina coladas (double rum :)). Make sure you order the creme brule at the French restaurant.

We were a bit disappointed with the main beach (the water was very nice but the sand was a brownish yellow). But then we saw the tiny beach near the mineral pool and that was paradise.

The room was incredible and they sent us flowers for our anniversary - unbelievably beautiful flowers. Then there was the 24-hour room service - look out it's addictive. My husband put on nine pounds in a week. Oh, and make sure you have the jerk special at the beach grill. Kenroy was a great chef and he was a super guy.

We also went on a tour of Bob Marley's grave, and that was one of the best parts of the whole trip. It was excellent and I didn't want to come home.

4.0 stars First-class beautiful resort, but I didn't like Jamaica. Visited: July 2002

My husband and I purchased the Presidential Perks Package to celebrate my birthday. Traveling to Jamaica aboard Jamaica Air was an absolute nightmare. Although we went non-stop from Baltimore to Montego Bay on the first flight of the day, we were still two hours late (the flight crew overslept was the excuse).

The resort was beautiful. Our suite, named after Steve McQueen (who stayed there), was large and clean. We had 1-and-1/2 bathrooms, a 40X20-foot-long balcony, and two sets of French doors. From here there was an incredible view of the beach and comfortable patio furniture.

Room complaints: We had to request our bar to be stocked almost everyday. Our king bed was made from two twin beds—one side was comfortable, the other unbearable because the springs were coming through. Our Jacuzzi tub was not separate from our only shower and the bathroom needed renovations.

I cannot say enough about the food at all restaurants. The French dishes, if bought in America, would run between $20-$30, the desserts $10-$15. They were beautifully prepared and mouthwatering. The breakfast/lunch buffets at the Italian restaurant were comparable to high-quality buffets in Las Vegas.

With the Presidential Perks package, upon check-in, our dinner reservations for all seven nights and our spa treatment appointments had been made. We were told by many guests it was difficult to make spa appointments because they booked-up quickly. Thankfully we did not have to worry about this. I was also told these spa treatments can be made before you arrive, so call ahead! Having a massage in the gazebo on the cliffs was one of the most relaxing experiences of my life.

The room's balcony, the pre-made dinner and spa itinerary, and the puddle-jump flight to and from Ocho Rios are the only benefit of the Presidential Perks package. Unless you get a good deal, do not waste your money.

Although I loved the resort, I would not go back to Jamaica. Every time I went out various situations made me want to simply go back to the resort to be safe within its walls.

If you want great food, service and drinks, the GLSS is the place to go. If you want to truly experience a country's culture, I think that Jamaica is too dangerous.

My husband and I honeymooned at Grand Lido Sans Souci. It was between there or a Sandals resort, and we don't regret our decision one bit! In fact, we stayed at the Sandals Hotel afterwards for another vacation and it only proved we made the right decision to honeymoon at Sans Souci!

Sans Souci was fabulous.

The food was great! My husband put on ten pounds the week we were here. I put on weight, too and must confess that I got sick from eating so much - but no hard feelings! I would do it all again!

The service was so good! The staff was so friendly and the spa was unbelievable. It was very romantic and relaxing!

My husband and I are Jamaicans. We've lived overseas separately in England and the U.S., and have come home and I am proud that my country has these high quality resorts to compete the world over. I've stayed at many resorts before, but this was by far, my most favorite and memorable thus far!

We can't wait to go back!

Our visit to what was then called The Grand Lido Sans Souci was absolutely incredible. We enjoyed every aspect of our trip. Everything from the atmosphere to the courteous staff was delightful.

The rooms were gorgeous and very spacious. And the exotic animals were beautiful. This hotel was truly an all-inclusive resort. The only regret we had was that we did not stay longer.

4.0 stars It was quiet, but nice. Visited: May 2002

My wife and I just returned from Grand Lido Sans Souci and had a great time. We needed some time away from our hectic schedules to recharge.

This was our fourth trip to Jamaica in the past two years. When we go, we go for frozen drinks, beaches, and relaxation. I've learned not to expect Le Bec Fin restaurants or the best vintage wines... just a nice room, a nice view, a nice beach, and friendly staff and guests. We got that at Sans Souci.

The service at this resort (and pretty much all Superclubs properties) was outstanding. The food was decent. The beach and the frozen drinks were great! We did not go to Dunns River, Dolphin Cove, Shopping in Ocho, etc. We went to relax and that was what we did. Sans Souci was the perfect location.

If you want perfect gourmet food, vintage wines, etc., this is not the place for you. If you want great people, service, beaches, sun and frozen drinks - Sans Souci is great.

The only drawback was the bus ride. On the way back to Montego Bay, we made it in less than two hours (with one stop). On the way, the whole trip was over three hours (stop for beers, dropping off at Breezes, etc.).

Also, if you like to keep in shape, Sans Souci will do wonders because everywhere you go on the resort involves stairs (it's on a hillside). We didn't mind, but could see it being tough for folks who don't get around too well.

3.0 stars Less than spectacular, over-rated, poor value. Visited: April 2002

My wife and I are both horribly over-worked, so when we got the chance we decided we would give the Grand Lido Sans Souci a try. All the reviews we had read were nothing but excellent.

We arrived at the GLSS and were pleasantly greeted with drinks and the staff made the check-in process more of a pleasure than the chore it normally is. At this point I'm thinking... "Great job, Tom, this is going to be our best vacation yet". We were shown to our room and to our surprise the bellboy only reluctantly accepted the tip we offered (GLSS is billed as a "No Tipping" property, but we believe that tipping well generally is reflected in future service). Again, we were impressed that the staff didn't expect anything other than giving us the utmost in service.

That night we booked the Italian restaurant where my wife had a horrible Lasagna (I warned her it would be straight from a buffet pan) and I ordered a Filet Mignon with some bland sauce on it. Wines on offer are an absolute joke, if it's more than US$3/bottle retail it simply won't be available for consumption. They even advertise how horrid their wines are... for example (directly from their Wine List):

Bla Bla Bla Sauvignon Blanc
"A light white with crisp citrus flavor and a short finish"

Not a single red on the list either that is described as anything more than "light" in body. I don't know about you but I don't want to eat my Lamb with a light, dilute, herbaceous Merlot. Their "Champagne Oasis" they advertise is nothing more than sub $5 (if you are lucky) sparkling wines (not even made in the traditional method).

Needless to say, at this point I just gave up on wine and resigned myself to drinking beer at every meal and prayed for better things at Cassanova (French) the next night.

The next morning we woke up to a beautiful sunrise and wandered downstairs to the Italian restaurant that serves breakfast. No a la Carte to be found, only disgusting buffet foods and some unripe fruits (with the exception of Payaya that was ripe and delicious).

Lunch we had at the beach grill and I have to agree with one of the previous reviewers when they say Kenroy is the best cook. They should move him to the main restaurant, but unfortunately he is stuck where he is as he is extremely nice and serves dual duty as customer service. Get their daily jerk special.

Cassanova? Disappointment. They screwed up our orders, food was very inconsistent (from horrid to passable) and if you want more than a teaspoon of veggies you better ask them for more. This restaurant is all about show than go.

In short.
Service - 9/10
Food - 4/10
Wine - 1/10
Room - 8/10

Overall, we had a great holiday. The food was wonderful, the property was very well designed and clean.

Our room (a suite) was large and clean with a big balcony. The furniture was old, but okay.

The only real problem was the water pressure in the shower during peak usage times. There was none.

Also, stay away from the F block if you want to go to bed early. The night entertainment could be very loud.

We were making this a golf holiday, but the course was not what we expected.

The staff was great and - as far as the all-inclusives go - it was the best I have ever seen.

My fiancé and I along with 2 of our closest friends decided to vacation together. Our travel agent raved about the property, but we had heard mixed reviews of Jamaica and were at first hesitant. Let me say now that the Jamaican people are the friendliest I have ever met.

Sans Sousi was wonderful, the food was always fresh, well prepared and delicious. We ate at Casanova (French) 3 times during our 7-night stay. Room service was available 24-hours per day, all-inclusive. We took full advantage of the frozen cocktails in our room.

We preferred the pool to the beach, but they are only a couple hundred feet apart. We were told that the resort was 65% full and we felt we had the entire place to ourselves. Book a day to swim with the dolphins, it's worth the $120- as well as a day at Dunn’s River Falls; both are a lot of fun. Finally the Tuesday and Friday night galas are not to be missed; how decadent! Enjoy, we surely did.

5.0 stars Simply a wonderful resort with first class taste. Visited: July 2001

My fiance and I stayed four nights at Grand Souci and six nights at Grand Lido Negril to celebrate our engagement.

Our accommodations at Grand Souci consisted of a one-bedroom ocean view suite with a jacuzzi and a balcony. Our suite was located in the "B Block". The view from our room was spectactular.

Our suite was cleaned daily and our bed turned nightly. Room service was also impressive. The food was impeccable. Gala Night was too much for the palate... don't miss it. There was more food for the eyes or senses to handle and all of it was superb. We did not have one bad meal during our stay.

The spa treatment was wonderful. My fiance had the massage, facial, manicure, pedicure and reflexology. I enjoyed the manicure, pedicure and facial.

The atmospere was peaceful and relaxing. We did not have a single restless night. The worst part of our stay at the Grand Lido Resort was leaving to go back home!

We are going back next year in July to get married. This time, we will stay for two weeks - seven at the Grand Lido Sans Souci and seven at the Grand Lido Negril (Persidential Perks Package).

My fiance' and I both agree that the Grand Lido Resorts were wonderful and romantic places to get married or spend a honeymoon.

We'll be back!!

5.0 stars Exceptional truly all-inclusive resort. Visited: March 2001

The resort is exceptionally situated. There are so many interesting nuances of the resort to explore. The spa is carved into the side of a cliffy hill going down to the beach.

We had a standard room in Block A—away from the noise at night. It was a very large room with separate sitting area and large bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub—nicely decorated and clean. Much better than any other resort I've stayed at.

The food was exceptional for an all-inclusive. We weren't fond of the food at the "Formal Night," but otherwise were very pleased. This is the only all-inclusive I know of that has room-service included, which we really enjoyed for breakfast and late evening snacks. Also, it was wonderful to have laundry included so that we came home with a suitcase full of clean clothes--makes the vacation less stressful upon return!

The water and weather was warm. The free spa services were extremely memorable-massages in a tiki hut above the ocean!

Sailing and water skiing/boarding was terrific. The only downside was the windsurfing; the reef is pretty shallow, and I had a hard time as a beginner/intermediate getting anywhere in the small cove.

We are definitely looking to go back. The only thing that would make me try somewhere else is if I could find all the perfection of Sans Souci at a better windsurf beach! My only other complaint was the terrible nighttime entertainment. They tried really hard, but failed big time, and to make it worse, they blasted the noise around that end of the resort.

5.0 stars Exceeded our every expectation! Visited: March 2001

We had heard horror stories about Jamaica, especially the airport, but our worries quickly subsided. A bus from the hotel met us at the airport and drove us the two-hour drive to the hotel. The driver was courteous and relatively safe, considering the drivers in Jamaica. Our luggage was always handled for us.

The food was superb! The cuisine was different at all three restaurants, making it suitable for any taste. With all the drinks you want all day long, we were never thirsty. The staff was very friendly and always helpful. The spa treatments were great. The scenery is absolutely beautiful.

The only bad comment we had was on the shopping trip into the city of Ocho Rios. They took us to "tourist trap" shops, owned by foreigners, which were three times the price of items available in the U.S. I was hoping for some local shopping, but that is not what we got. I do not recommend this excursion. If it's local attractions you're after, I suggest renting a taxi not from your hotel and have the driver show you the sites. We will definitely go back!

We stayed at Grand Souci for our honeymoon (14 days). Our accommodation consisted of a one-bedroom oceanview suite with Jacuzzi, large bathroom, comfortable king size bed, and a patio overlooking the beach. We recommend you stay in block A or B if you like the beach; you are practically just a few feet from the beach and beach bar.

The service and food was impeccable. For a quick breakfast, we usually ordered room service (muffins, toast, fruit, etc) or ate at the Italian restaurant (full breakfast items served). For lunch, we were offered grilled items from the bar grill or an extensive lunch buffet at the Italian restaurant. For dinner, we had a choice of French, Italian or Jamaican restaurant or room service. They also offer Gala Night twice a week: don't miss it - excellent! We did not have one bad meal during our stay/ Even room service offered 24 hours a day was pretty good; we could even order wine by the bottle. We definitely gained a few pounds!

We recommend that you book your spa treatments as soon as you arrive; wasn't a problem for us due to the lenght of our stay but they usually were booked 2 to 3 days in advance. The Spa was wonderful; very relaxing. Activities were plentiful: tennis, all kinds of watersports; daily activities, etc.

We golfed 5 times during our stay. The shuttle was about 30 minutes from the hotel; fees were included but the carts and caddies could be a bit pricy. Food and beverage was not included at the club house. The golf was a lot of fun. Again, the staff were trained to please and were very friendly.

Overall, this was a wonderful place for a honeymoon - very romantic. We are already thinking of going back.

The only thing that I was disappointed with was the beach area. The ocean was not warm, and the sand was not white. Also, it was a very small beach with not enough palapas or beach chairs.

The rest of the hotel was beautiful, and the food was awesome - especially room service.

Sans Souci felt like home with all the beautiful trees and terrific views.

They had a marvelous beach, and the food was fabulous.

The band needed more energy, and should perform more reggae songs. Trevor was extremely great on the piano, though. He was very energetic and entertaining. That guy sells the hotel big time, and he deserves a reward! We will be telling other visiters to come and see him perform.

Moreover, we will be back.
