One of the best vacations we have ever had! Visited: March 2001 |

My boyfriend and I have traveled quite a bit in the Caribbean and were initially reluctant to visit Jamaica due to mixed reports we had received from friends whom had visited the island. After viewing Swept Away's website and brochure, we agreed to give the Swept Away resort in Negril a chance. In retrospect, we are glad we did.
Being Manhattanites, we are somewhat spoiled, and usually are disappointed with the food and services in other countries. Swept Away, however, surpassed all of our expectations. The staff was extremely friendly and warm and seemed to go out of their way to accommodate us. Although our room was not what we had initially requested, (We had asked for a king-sized bed, but received a room with two full-sized beds.) the desk manager rectified the situation within literally 5 minutes of becoming aware of the problem. Our room was a Garden Room, somewhat close to the road, however we were not bothered by any noise (we took the earplugs they provided back to Manhattan where we actually need them!) The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. We loved having continental breakfast out on the terrace every morning. (Room service was very prompt!) The resort also has security guards at the gates, as well as on the beach. Safety was not a concern; we felt very secure in our surroundings.
The food was varied and plenty. I am a vegetarian (no meat or fish) and I always had plenty to choose from whether it be at Feathers, the Main Dining Room, or of course, the Veggie Bar. My boyfriend (who is a meat eater) loved the barbecue jerk chicken and pork at Caribbean Buffet Night and also enjoyed the grilled sandwiches at the Veggie Bar for lunch. Beverages were also in abundance—try the iced-coffee bar on the beach and the fruit smoothies. The Rum Punch, I warn you, was lethal.
Activities are also varied to the likes of many. The glass bottom boat ride and snorkeling were enjoyable, and there were plenty of water sports for those who want them. The beach is beautiful and immaculately maintained and the fitness facilities were also impressive for a relatively small resort. I utilized the Spa services for a massage and facial; I found them to be very relaxing, but the treatments fell short in comparison to spa services in NYC. (But then again, they were half of the price!)
All in all, Swept Away was an unexpectedly fabulous vacation that left us more content and relaxed than any other vacation we have ever had. We are two people whom are difficult to please and cannot stop raving about our vacation. We would definitely return to Negril and without a question plan another stay at Swept Away.

What Happened to Swept Away? Visited: February 2001 |

Oh my, what happened to the Swept Away we knew? As 8-time consecutive guests, we were very disappointed in our trip this year. First, understand we have loved, absolutely loved Swept Away and anxiously look forward to returning very year. This year was no different. But, upon arriving to Swept Away, the front desk calmly informed us that our beachfront reservation could not be accommodated. In fact, they only had one garden room left and it was take it or leave it. Now, you can imagine that the last available room was right on the highway, which was being repaved. We awoke every morning to frontend loaders and tarmac trucks.
Folks, this wasn't just us. We talked with four couples from Oklahoma who also experienced not having the accommodations they reserved. Then mid-week, the front desk called to ask us to come up and receive our refund check (they refunded the room difference). Trust me, no benefits, no price break, no freebies...just the difference. When we got to the front desk, there were about 10 people in front of us getting checks. Now that is significant overbooking!
I still love Swept Away. However, I now have to rethink our trip next year. After traveling 1500 miles, spending $7000....this is not the way to start a vacation.
I guess, if it doesn't matter that you might not get what you reserved, paid for and expect...then Swept Away is the ticket.
By the way, we booked this trip in July of 2000. Swept Away, don't make us leave...please solve your issues! |

A romantic and excellent fitness-conscious resort. Visited: February 2001 |

I found this luxury, all-inclusive, couples-only resort to be especially appealing. They have an outstanding tennis program with excellent tennis lessons and tennis pros, not to mention all of the other fitness and sports activities available. The also have a ‘veggie’ bar that appeals to the health conscious person. There are regular bars and romantic restaurants frequently serving buffet meals with a variety of meats, fish and vegetables. The food was tasty but frequently had the local Jamaican flavor (Jerk spice). Not having a TV in the room does not bother me; I came here for the warm climate, atmosphere, and sports. The staff was friendly, made an effort to recognize you, know your name, and to be helpful. |

This resort is not for everyone Visited: December 2000 |

This is our first time at an all-inclusive resort and without a television. We now realize that we enjoy watching a little before bed and were having a hard time getting to sleep without it. Had there been a mini bar in the room, I wouldn't have to cross the road to the sports complex to get a night cap. I was also surprised to see ear plugs in the room, I guess us city people aren't used the crickets out side our rooms. For all those people that are sensitive to noise the wooden shutters don't block out any sound. The rooms are beautiful with these shutters but I prefer glass windows to keep the noise out.
It rained the week before we got there and the mosquitoes were out waiting for us. They bit us all over but the worst ones were behind the knees and those swelled up to at least 4 inches in diameter. They were everywhere, in the gym, out by the running trail, beach, veranda, and in our room. We had to get our room sprayed every night. When they cleaned the room they would leave the doors open and that's when the mosquitoes came in again. We used OFF mosquito spray like it was cologne.
The main dining room was under construction so we don't know what we were missing. Having dinner at Feathers was just ok. The lobster and snapper that I had was over cooked. Having the buffet dinner was better. But the Jamaican pork was excellent. The carrot cake, pear pie and double chocolate mouse cake were just excellent.
The live entertainment was great and we had fun playing pool after dinner. The waiters and waitress were very friendly at the bar and restaurant. As far as the front desk is concerned, they were pleasant, but not overly helpful. I was surprised they served us drinks and brought us cold face towels on the beach on Saturday and Sundays, while we were there. Joy, my massage therapist, was really good considering that she had to work around my mosquito bites. (Tip is already included in the massage.)
We met a couple that has been there 25 times and just love it, so all we can say is either you love it or it's not your cup of tea. Our next vacation will definitely have a television and mini bar. I was compelled to write this because I had read all the wonderful reviews from other travelers. So my expectations were very high. Hope that my review has not deterred you from going to this resort, rather gives you a glimpse of another experience. |

This place is over rated and over priced! Visited: December 2000 |

We chose this place because we wanted to get married in an all-inclusive top notch kind of place, which Swept-Away in my opinion was not! They make it look so beautiful and inviting in the pictures, but that is as far as it goes. First of all, as someone one else mentioned in their review. The main dining room was closed due to renovations. So we were all forced to dine across the street at feathers (part of swept away resort) The food was really horriable. I honestly have never had such crapy meals on a trip. They served practically no seafood other than the worst tasting red snapper that I ever had. Oh yeah, I also had the privilege of eating 4 shrimp, in eight days that I was there. We really look forward to eating great seafood or any food for that matter on our trips. Especially when we travel to tropical/ocean type places.
Besides the food not being good, the room wasn't great either. The bathroom tiles had mildew on them. The room kind of looked like the photo's only dirty and old. Our room was infested with sugar ants, large fire ants and little lizards on a regular basis. Oh yes the mosquito's are just out of control,We still have welts on our ankles, feet and legs and we have been home for a week. I really recommend bringing bug spray.
Even our marriage didn't go so smoothly, they had to find a person to marry us last minute and kept us waiting a long time in the process. The staff and the ocean were the only great things about swept away. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Over all choose beaches or sandal's they are right next door, and they looked just as nice if not nicer than swept away and they cost a fraction of the price and from what I heard they have great food, they offer weddings. Basically they offer everything swept-away does, just at a much better price. Sorry to have wrote such a harsh review, but honestly this place is just not worth the $4700.00 it cost us. I have traveled alot in my life and this place just doesn't measure up to all it's made out to be. So do yourself a favor and research other big all-inclusive resorts in Negril Jamaica. Negril is really a beautiful place and the native people are wonderful, warm people. We will definitly go back to negril Jamaica. But we will not ever stay at Swept-Away |

Absolutely the best all-inclusive we have ever been to Visited: November 2000 |

We arrived at Swept Away on October 29th for a 7 night stay for our honeymoon. The resort was extremely nice and the staff were more than accommodating. The food was exceptional. We never ate a meal that we did not thoroughly enjoy. Be sure to request a room upstairs since the bottom floor tends to feel confined while you have the high vaulted ceilings in the upstairs rooms. When we arrived, we were initially given a bottom floor room but they quickly rectified the problem once we contacted the front desk.
There was never a lack of something to do on the beach. Watersports were all free and there was something for everyone. Make sure you visit the spa and get a full body massage. Ask for Nadine since she was great!
The only negative of the trip was the bus ride from Montego Bay to Negril. I would highly recommend taking the short flight from Montego Bay to Negril to avoid the 1 1/2 hour frightening bus ride. |

Absolutely wonderful! Visited: November 2000 |

This resort has it all. We could either lay on the beach or spend our time in the Sports Complex. It is all-inclusive, which includes instruction, so we tried tennis, racquetball, scuba diving, and water skiing. We then relaxed on the beach throughout the afternoon. The staff was efficient and friendly. We really could find no fault with Swept Away. If you are allocated a Garden Room, try and get an upgrade to a top floor Atrium Room, it is worth it.
Overall, we would recommend Swept Away and will certainly return again soon!! |

Everything the brochure and web site said it would be Visited: October 2000 |

Since this web site played an important part of where we chose to stay, we felt compelled to write a review ourselves. Swept Away is truly a beautiful property. We explored some other hotels during our trip and this opinion still holds true. No matter what room you get, you are surrounded by lush vegetation that makes you feel secluded. However, stay away from the rooms overlooking the pool. At first my wife and I thought being in the middle of the action would be fun, but it proved to be very noisy. The entertainment (which was a lot more impressive than I had expected) played until 11pm. The bar didn't close until 1am, and they started setting up for breakfast about 6am. All of which we could hear loud and clear, since the rooms don't have windows, just screens with wooden slats. Basically, stay away from rooms 1230-1233.
The rooms were very nice and large with a veranda that was almost as big as the room. We spent a lot of time here during the afternoon rains. Be warned, there are no TVs in the room. Although this did not bother us, a few guests were itchin’ for a little TV. If you must, there is a TV in the upstairs bar in the main dining room. We had problems with water pressure in our room, but are not sure if other guests shared this problem.
The food was very good and was above my expectations. We ate at Feathers (reservations required) twice while we were there and enjoyed it a lot. We've never stayed at an all-inclusive resort before, so being able to order whatever you wanted took some getting used to. We ate several times at the grill for lunch. David makes a mean grilled chicken sandwich. No matter what your taste, you should be able to find something to eat that you will like. Get daring and try some of the local dishes (akee and salt fish, boiled green banana, escovitch). Saturday night buffet is a taste of Jamaica. Give it a shot.
The bars were open when they said they would be and were always well stocked with premium liquors. Don't be afraid to ask for the good stuff if that's what you want. The bar staff was very friendly and creative. Watch out for the Rum Punch; it is made with overproof rum and will kick you in the butt if you’re not careful.
The beach at Swept Away is one of the largest and cleanest. There were always plenty of chairs and we never felt crowded on the beach. Take your beach cushion out on the water and float around for awhile. It's the definition of relaxation.
We were very happy about our choice of Swept Away and would recommend it to others. Happy travels!!! |

There is absolutely no need to leave the resort! Visited: April 2000 |

My girlfriend and I wanted the perfect relaxing vacation this April and Swept Away was the perfect place to do it. After reading the reviews from this site and talking to some friends who have been, we held high expectations when we arrived at Swept Away. We were even more impressed when we left!
The bungalow rooms were spartan but large and comfortable. You really do feel like you have your own private house apart from everyone else. It's hard to imagine where all the people at dinner come from!
The food was expectional in the informal dining room and absolutely exquisite in the formal dining room (Feathers - make sure to make reservations). The service was fantastic, all our needs were met.
The beach and pool area were beautiful, not a concrete jungle like some resorts.
Our favorite activities were sailing, snorkeling and the private tennis lessons (all included). And, of course, laying on the beach all day!
The bartenders were very nice and the bar was well stocked with premium liqours.
Apparently, they have night time activities, but we were too tired to stay up that late! The sun comes up pretty early here!
Our only recommendations would be to stay as long as possible during the off season, stay in one of the bungalows in the middle of the resort (the road traffic can be loud during the day near the rear), never leave the resort, and hit the breakfast buffet twice if you can! Oh, and the 1.5 hour bus/van/taxi ride to and from the resort was an absolute nightmare. We would suggest flying from the airport to the resort. |

The best Caribbean vacation! Visited: December 1969 |
| Posted by ATraveler |

Our original honeymoon was cancelled due to a hurricane, and we were rebooked at Sandals Negril. They called 2 days before our wedding and advised us that they were overbooked. I called Swept Away and they accommodated us. It was the BEST thing that ever happened.
This resort was the ultimate in a relaxing Caribbean vacation. The beach was unbelievable, the food was to die for and the staff were excellent. I've told all my friends about it, and next time we go to Jamaica, it's Swept Away ..all the way. |

Tropical relaxation Visited: December 1969 |

This resort is a tropical paradise; it's the first place I've stayed that actually looked like the brochure from the travel agent. I took my husband here for his 40th and his 43rd birthdays. The last time we were here was in March of '99. It was nice to see some familiar faces.
You won't be disappointed in the accommodations or the food. All the rooms have large patios and walls made of louvered wood blinds. The massages were wonderful and the service was impeccable. Jamaican hospitality - there just isn't anything like it. |
