4.0 stars I was pleasantly surprised. Visited: March 2008

Our family stayed in the Sunset Beach Resort in March. We were pleasantly surprised.

The beach and pools were perfect for our kids (who are three and 5five). We all loved the clear, tranquil water, and the beach was very relaxing - but family friendly.

Our hotel accommodations were enjoyable with no complaints. All hotel staff members were friendly, and kept trying to make the kids smile.

The food was more than adequate in quality and quantity. I would try to make reservations for the restaurants that require them before you go. The buffet was perfect for our family, and we never were hungry. The pina coladas and evening entertainment were great, too.

We would go back in a heartbeat! Just be wary of the airport. It took us three hours to clear customs and immigration, and we had valid passports. Those working at the airport don't seem to be able to handle all of the planes when they arrive at once.

5.0 stars Sunset Beach Resort was great - - you need to try this one! Visited: June 2005

The staff and facility were great. There was someone here to help plan travel and answer questions. It was also clean.

There was everything we needed at the resort - paddle boats, snorkeling, and activities every day for young and old. Also, the beach was never crowded. It was a great place to take pictures - a beautiful area.

1.0 stars 5 night stay with not enough daytime entertainment . Visited: January 2005

we arrived at the resort at 12 noon or so to see alot of nice wickered chairs and tables in the welcoming/sitting area and everyone was very relaxed. however, the weather was not particularly favorable--very windy and cloudy with an occasinal shower. the ocean was very choppy for a bay area in which no one has control over the weather--oh well. the weather continued to be the same for several days in which in you were not able to sit by the pool, there was not alot to do. by the third day we went to the spa to have a body wrap which was absolutely wonderful. the rooms were OK and the second day we were there we were unable to get into our room to shower at 5pm because the door was not able to open due to the door jam being off shift. it took about 45 min. to have this taken care of in which we had reservations in the chinese resteraunt at 630pm. luckily enough we were with friends and we were able to shower in there room in which at that time there was NO hot water--HMM. meal was great in the chinese place-thank goodness. the buffet day after day was good--not anything to write home about. the drinks were poor--drank hard liquor drinks all day and could tell that booze was watered down--unless you had wine. the grill had the most horrendous food. we found that they cook the hamburgers and hotdogs the night before and they soak overnight in the same water until they are reheated on the grill the following day. fries were the only thing good. we had to stay overnight one extra night because of a blizzard in new england and we had to pay 160.00 dollars per couple and had to share a room in which the air conditioner made a horrific noise so we shut it off and once again--no hot water. that evening at 2 am--because the a/c was not running we had to listen to a large group of partyers from minnasota(they made sure it was known where they were from) jumping in and out of the hot tub and the pool doing some things (so it sounded) where i would have wanted to drain the hot tub the next day. thought the hot tub was closed at that time-HMMM. anyway that is my review. would not go back again.--guess you get what you pay for...

4.0 stars After our first visit one year prior, we returned to be married. Visited: June 2004

This was our ideal place to be married on 6/19/04. This resort rated very high with us when we took value for money spent as the final basis for our decision.

We had a great time on both visits. And with the new children's area closer to completion, our next trip will be with our two children so they can see that real rest and relaxation can also be fun.

The staff at all areas of the resort were friendly and helpful, and did anything they could to help us enjoy our stay.

4.0 stars It was relaxing and was a good value. Visited: October 2003

I have stayed at Sunset Beach Resort and Spa several times over the past four years. Each time it improves.

This property is a good moderately priced hotel with an excellent location. It is located on a peninsula so it gives you the feeling of seclusion, but it is close to the hip strip so you can get to town easily.

The property has undergone some recent renovations and is currently building new rooms and a water park. The builiding housing the oceanfront rooms has also recently been renovated.

This is a nice resort for families and groups of all ages. They have something for everyone. They also have a nice waterfront gazebo for weddings. They have a very reasonable spa with affordable packages.

They also have three restaurants. Two of the restaurants require reservations. We think the Italian restaurant is better than the Chinese. The grill has the best Jerk Chicken and has won the Jack Daniels BBQ cookoff.

4.0 stars We loved it! Visited: September 2003

We traveled to Jamaica for our honeymoon and were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were nice, not the greatest, but no one spends all of their time in the room.

The beaches were great, the water was beautiful, the pools were wonderful, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. It was very different from the normal treatment in the United States.
Overall, I would definitely come back!
