Everyone went above and beyond to make us feel special the whole time we were here, and we were a group of nine!

Special kudos to Francine, the assistant food and beverage manager; and Nadia, bartender at the swim-up bar. Thank you both for all you did to make this a very special vacation.

We are already planning our second trip for next year.

2.0 stars It's a bummer, it was once a great place. Visited: October 2007

My wife and I recently returned to a hotel that was called Eden - before taken over by Sandals. I will make this brief.

After it rained, the faucet water turned muddy. The resort management thought this a non-issue since they provided bottled water in the room.

After advertising four restaurants, they admitted they keep one open per night, even though they frequently run out of food by 9:00 PM!

Many Jamaicans came up to us on the beach or rode up to the beach on wave riders shouting "hey you", in an effort to sell drugs and other contraband - not to mention T shirts, and other items. Sandals found this not to be a problem, since the beaches in Jamaica are all public.

The locals - including Sandals' own security team - asked the vacationers to get them food from the beach restaurant, which was always open.

Also, the cuisine was forgettable. However, if you like to drink, this is your place!

I received a response from them via the mail and they are not to be held accountable for the following. And in addition, hope that these "problems" will not influence a stay at Sandals again. Give me a break! It is interesting to note that Sandals' main office referred this back to the place we stayed!

Please bring back "Eden II"!

If you want a romantic vacation, this is definitely the place to book. We booked our vacation and our wedding at this location. We were not disappointed in the least. In fact, we have nothing but wonderful memories of our week at Dunn's!

All the staff were wonderful - the front desk staff, the fabulous conceirge team, the wonderful wedding planners, the waiters, and the play makers.

I highly recommend the spa services at Dunn's. No vacation would be complete without the massages or pedi coladas!

Be sure to book the catamaran cruise to Dunn's River Falls and the Bob Marley Zion Bus to Nine Mile. My only regret was not extending the trip another week.

The beaches are clean, the resort is immaculate, the food is outstanding and the "Jamaica Smile" is a great refresher from the heat! We will definitely be booking again!

4.0 stars Our second trip just as good as the first! Visited: June 2005

My husband and I just returned from our second trip to Dunn's River. We very much enjoyed our trip, and recommend it to couples who enjoy the simple pleasures.

My husband and I - the couple we traveled with - received a room upgrade. The rooms were modern and clean. The food and drinks were great. And service from all departments were friendly and helpful, making us feel like we were truly on vacation.

In addition, spa treatments were world class and I recommend at least one massage.

The pool, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, beach and patios were all cleaned daily. This was our third trip to a Sandals property, and are planning our fourth.

I did not have a fun time at this resort. There seemed to be a strong odor of urine.

5.0 stars It was excellent! Visited: May 2004

Service was great and the food was good.  Our room was clean and newly remodeled (In building 2).  We were returning guests and got upgraded a few levels without even asking.

The Playmakers were all excellent!  They were personable and always enthusiastic.  They really knew how to make a great time for everyone!

My only warnings are:
1) Don't bother taking the flight from Ocho Rios to MoBay.  It ended up taking longer then if we just took the bus and it was more of a hassle.

2) Kimono's restaurant made us go to another room for dessert.  This was very rude.  They didn't offer coffee, tea or even give us napkins.  That turned us off.  The other restaurants were great!

Overall, this was a great worry-free vacation, the scenery was beautiful and the Jamaicans were great!

5.0 stars It was Paradise. Visited: October 2003

We have just returned from Sandals Dunn's River and can honestly say it was the best holiday we have ever had.

We were celebrating our 25th Wedding anniversary and booked our holiday in April 2003. We found this site about six weeks before we went, and were horrified by the comments.

We found that the hotel was very clean - including the lifts. The TV in our room worked okay. The restaurants were very good - our favorite was the International. The waiters were all very helpful, and the food was excellent. We could get a snack at the Grill Bar, they were cooking fresh food all day.

The bar staff was great fun and the Playmakers worked very hard to get people to join in the fun and games (we didn't have a favorite - they were all great). All the jacuzzis were working, we spent a lot of time by the signature pool and found that the watersports staff was always scooping leaves out to keep the pool clean. I learned to knee-board which I really enjoyed.

If you want a fun holiday, Sandals Dunn's River is for you.
Also, I would highly recommend the Blue Mountain Bike Tour. It was a great day out. We intend on returning to Sandals Dunn's River.

First off, people are way too high strung when writing reviews about Sandals. You are in Jamaica, Mon! Drink the local drinks and drink the local beer... they're great! I'm a beer drinker and Red Stripe is wonderful. It's nice to take a break from the norm of micro brews and the like ("when in Rome").

Anyways, the resort is beautiful and I will be back. In fact, my wife and I will be returning in November! We are very lucky to be able to go back to Dunn's River.

2.0 stars Don't stay here! Visited: July 2003

As returning Sandals guests (our first visit was a 10 to St Lucia), we were expecting the best and we got the worst! The whole place needs to be remodeled! The TV broke a few times. The elevator was dirty, hot, and also broke a few times!

The food was below average! The quality was poor and the selection never changed. The meat was always tough and most of the food was always cold. The food is not as it appears on their website and sample menus. Lunch is only a buffet (if you make it by 2pm) or crappy burgers, wannabe pizza, or stale nachos from the beach grille! We booked the concierge so we had room service, that was okay but the selection was poor. The drinks were okay, not if you drink beer because there’s only one kind, RED STRIPE. Also, there are no wine lists with dinner!

The pool and the Jacuzzis were dirty and the Jacuzzi was broken at least 3 times during our stay along with the steam room. The dive boat was broken too! The snorkeling sucks because they only take you a little ways from the resort and you don't see much! The Dunn’s River Falls tour was supposed to be free and its not! It was $50.00 for two!

It was fun being together and having a break from our child and work but not worth the money we paid at all! The service was okay-- maid service great, room service great, bar service okay and the food service in the restaurants needs to be improved greatly! I was so surprised because Sandals St Lucia was so much better! If you like good food and service, don’t stay here!

My boyfriend and I stayed in a Villa at Beaches Grande Sport and Sandals. We had a bad time.

I hated being transported from the airport onto a bus where there were so many people I could not even sit by him. People were getting drunk and making passes at me and my boyfriend.

The Jamaicans there were great, but being crammed in a resort where we were always around people, and even having the staff getting friendly with my boyfriend was not fun! That was not even the end of it!

2.0 stars False advertising! Visited: December 2002

Our room had no hot water two days, the air conditioning only worked on low and the in-room coffee pot was broken. There were not enough beach chairs and pool mats were being used for chairs so this left no pool mats to use. The watersports boat was broken for the entire vacation. Food was lousy and overcooked, the "tree" bar smelled disgusting. Water was leaking out of light fixtures on the walls and the ceiling was leaking in the main lobby.

This was our honeymoon and we were supposed to get free china, when we checked in we were told we didn't book a high enough category room (this was all prearranged with our travel agent and Sandals). All complaints were listened to, we had hot water 2 days later, the air was fixed but it was the same as it was before we complained. The Dunn’s River Falls Tour was included in our trip and the hotel tried to charge us for it! The pool bars were very long but only 6-8 feet was being attended to by a bartender, they didn't use the rest. The entry/exit ladders on the hot tubs were very loose and only one hot tub was warm. They ran out of beach towels all the time.

This was our second Sandals vacation and our last one. Still waiting to hear from Sandals/Unique vacations for a response to our complaint letter. If you want to go to Ochos Rios try Sandals Ochos Rios, we went there and it was much better than Dunn’s River.

4.0 stars A Great Honeymoon Choice Visited: July 2001
Posted by donuvin
I recently returned from my honeymoon at the fabulous Sandals Dunn's River Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. My husband and I agree this was an excellent choice. Approximately 90% of the couples there were on their honeymoons. This was especially nice because almost everyone had something in common.

The Playmakers and other staff members were beyond courteous. The service was undeniably excellent. The specialty restaurants all had great food to match the service. The drinks and activities seemed unending. The beach and the pools were well maintained and kept almost spotless.

We had very little to complain about. However, most hotels aren't perfect. The pool room could've definitely been bigger and had more tables in it and more table tennis tables would've also been nice. My main complaint would be that when we arrived we were told that we were being upgraded from a deluxe room category to a honeymoon grande luxe, only to find the room smelling so bad of mildew that we immediately switched back to our deluxe room; I must say that it was actually better than the upgrade.

My only advice to future visiting couples would be not to bother paying for an upgrade. The basic category of deluxe is just as nice as the others.

One other thing that surprised me was there was hardly any traditional Jamaican cuisine to be found there. Ex: curried goat, ackee and saltfish, oxtails.

Besides these minor complaints the resort and the service as a whole was actually superb and we would go back in an instant.

5.0 stars Sandals Dunn's River has it all! Visited: April 2001

We stayed at Sandals Dunn’s River in April. It was a wonderful resort on a very nice private beach with a terrific pool area. There was a large theater for evening shows. We couldn't have asked for more.

It was a tremendous value. The food and service were excellent. The outdoor gym was a nice surprise. They also had the best hammocks I've ever seen. You pull a rope and swings by itself! The grounds were just beautiful and the lobby was luxurious. We want to go back!

3.0 stars An easy choice - no planning needed. Visited: February 2001
Posted by aerdnam
This Sandals, like most of the other Sandals, was an easy choice because everything was planned for us - other than deciding what time to eat, that is.

The property was very clean and had a great pool. The food was average, but we could eat all we wanted, whenever we wanted.

Service ranged from indifferent to outstanding, depending on the staff member. The recreation leaders were especially friendly and helpful, remembering our names and suggesting places to go off the resort.

The vast majority of the other guests were honeymooners (we weren't, but felt comfortable nonetheless).

A fun daytrip, provided the weather is agreeable, is to go to Dunn's River Falls. Climbing up the falls can be treacherous though, so beware! Spend the $10 or so to rent rubber bottomed slippers at the bottom of the falls to avoid falling into the rushing water and cutting yourself. A waterproof disposable camera was invaluable too.
