1.0 stars Beware! Visited: July 2008

Actually, even though we were disappointed at the sparse accommodations, we were doing fine here. That was until our garden bungalow was robbed! It was all downhill from there.

The police were called in. The manager was very unsympathetic and disinterested in our plight. The security officer implied that we staged the robbery.....can you imagine? There were many nice employees, but the thief gave the hotel a bad reputation. Beware!

I will not let this prevent me from coming back to Jamaica. However, I won't stay here.

1.0 stars We had an unpleasant experience here. Visited: April 2008

My wife and I were hoping for a memorable 14th anniversary, and decided to make Club Caribbean our place of choice. We loved the "on the beach" cottage concept, and had stayed here before.

When we got here, we waited for a very long time to be shown where we would stay for the weekend. I must say, I was so angry (to put it mild) to see where they expected us to stay. It seemed they converted gift shops into rooms with concrete slabs for the dressing table. I believe the beds were also afixed to the floor without even a bed head. The room was white, and lead into a bathroom without doors.

We complained bitterly, but got the run around. We were given the promise about a new room the following day. We rejected that offer, and they began to tell us that foreigners got preference. That blew our tops, and we demanded a complete refund, even though they wanted to take a percentage because we were on the property.

I am sorry for the "foreigners" who travel thousand of miles without the option of a refund or an option to go elsewhere. We will never go back there.

As I said, we were fortunate, and went to Club Ambiance down the road from them, that was a pleasant surprise. We were treated not like commoners, but like royalty.

Beware of the Royal Decamron in Runaway Bay. They have aproblem with overbooking their resort constantly. We booked 3 months in adavnce for a garden "cottage" and were put ina dumpy room behind the dumpsters and across a gravel parking lot. Management did NOTHING to make it right with us. I asked daily about getting our cottage and everyday the answer was no. They would not refund our money and never did give us a room. Walking by the smelly dumpsters and looking out a window to the site of garbage each day made me really angry and ruined my trip.. I will never go back. They promised a cottage on the lst nite of our stay but then said there was no cottage for us.. I as lied to and scammed. I will forward pics if you email.. some people seem to like this resort and maybe i would have too if i didn't get ripped off.. I did not travel 2000 miles to look at and smell trash everyday
The beach is short and the water is rocky. The sand is not the white you expect to see either..The food was crummy and the coffee, while good, was Maxwell House..so much for Jamaican coffee

We reserved a cottage three months in advance. When we got to the hotel, we were told there was no cottage for us. We were given a room on the second floor of a building that was across a gravel parking lot, and behind a dumpster and the service entrance.

Our window view was of empty milk crates on one side and tops of buildings and wires on the other. A warm bottle of water sat on the cigarette burned dresser, and there was no fridge, clock or radio. Also, the TV was all static.

I complained daily in the lobby, and they did absolutely nothing to make up for our trouble. We were told on our last night here that we could have a cottage. However, then they backed out of it and said there was no room us that day either. Also, they would not give us any money back so we were forced to stay here.

It ruined the entire trip. I doubt that I will ever go back to Jamiaca. Daily we walked by and smelled the nasty dumpters and looked at trash. This was not an isolated incident as I kept meeting more and more people in the lobby who didn't get the rooms they reserved.

In addition, the food was poor. It was hard to find something good to eat.

They did not have a nice beach either. The sand was not the white that you would expect to see, and the beach was small and rocky.

The cottages might have been nice, but I never saw the inside of one of them. I could have rented a dumpy hotel room anywhere.
This was not what I came 2000 miles for.

It seemed the staff at this resort was not willing to do anything to make up for their mistakes. Even coffee brought up in the morning would have let us feel they even cared we were stuck in a nasty room.

The bartenders were nice, and our room maid was great. The lobby people seemed to be tired of gettting yelled at by guests. One of them flat-out lied to us about gettting a different room, then refused to discuss it.

I did not care for the undignified, unfriendly service I received at customs in the airport. I felt like I was in a womens' prison when I got patted down and was asked to turn around so they could feel my back pockets. This was while I was forced to put my hands over my head.

We spent five nights at this resort (with my husband and daughter).

The weather was excellent, the beach was clean with white sand, and the water was also very nice and clean. The territory of the hotel was also kept in very nice, neat shape during our stay. I really recommend the 'Dunn's River Falls' tour. It was a great experience for all of us - the highlight of the trip.

The entertainment staff during the day did a very nice job for both kids and adults. The bar's drinks variety and staff friendliness was superb, also.

However, tour trip from the airport to the hotel was two hours, on the way back - 1.5 hours. We did not really mind, though, as we were enjoying seeing the real Jamaica. But for some people, it could appear a little too long. Our flight was three hours.

We had a two-level cottage the first day. The air conditioning was working well only on the first level accommodations, so we spent one night all three of us crumbling on one bed. The next day we were moved to the different cottage (one level) and it was fine.

You would expect to have a full set of towels in the room daily (body, face, wash cloth, foot mat) and shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap. Here, we had two pieces of thin soap for three of us for five days and only body towels and foot towel. One day we got our towels at 6:00 pm after walking to the front desk three times (the telephone did not work in our room). The other day we just got two body towels for three of us.

About beach towels-I guess they didn't have enough of them for all of the people in the hotel. If we did not get them by 9:00 am, we were out of luck.

The staff was very friendly, even too much I would say. Not a single Jamaican man passed me by without saying something like "Hi Baby, do you want to have fun?" (or bath together or what ever). I appreciated the attention, but not like that at my once-a-year family vacation.

Also, this was supossed to be a family-friendly resort, but the entertainment at night was not family oriented: a lot of sexist jokes, and the dance troupe was performing some kind of orgy on the stage in front of all of the kids and happy cheering from all of the staff.

We've been in many places in the Caribbean (the same rating hotel) and never experienced what we saw here.

The food was pretty good, but not as much variety as you would expect (just again comparing to other places we've been).

Another thought about the transportation to the tours. We shared our river falls tour with the couple who was going to swim with the dolphins. We were done with our part and waited for 1.5 hours until this couple was done.

5.0 stars Talk about fantastic! Visited: December 2004
Posted by ljimenez
We celebrated my husband's 30th birthday there with two other couples. I was a bit nervous after reading the reviews from this site and other sites. How wrong some of those reviews were!

When we arrived, the front desk was fantastic. They were courteous and all had smiles. The minute we checked in, we were pulled by the entertainment group to play a "welcome game." We had a blast. One of our couples won a bottle of rum.

The rooms were so clean and spacious. One of the couples got an oceanfront, but was too close to the restaurant and was upgraded to a two-level bungalow for no extra money. We all were very impressed.

Also, I was able to go to the front desk and ask that we be served one of our meals directly on the beach. Talk about beautiful! It was set up for six and we had dinner there. It was fantastic.

Everyone here was so willing to help us. The food was great. We truly had a great time and plan on going back sometime in 2005 with the same group.

I have been to three resorts in Jamaica spanning from a five-star to three-star, and I have to say that this was very, very close to the five-star. Don't tell too many people, or they might raise the prices! I would recommend this place to anyone.

5.0 stars Overall, it was great! It was our first time in Jamaica - we loved it! Visited: September 2004

We totally loved most everything about Royal Decameron. We loved the fact that we could walk out of our oceanfront cottage onto the beach!

The room was always clean, with plenty of towels and fresh flowers each day. The food was good, with a large selection at each meal. Even my picky husband found plenty to eat!

We were here with a group of ten people, who all had a reason to celebrate. One of the couples got married on the beach during our stay. My husband and I - along with another couple in our group - were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. Also, there was a birthday in the group. This was a great place for any and all of these occasions.

My only complaint would be that some of the wait staff and bartenders seemed not as friendly as others. My husband had a hard time getting waited on at the main bar, which was frustrating. Others would walk up and get waited on right away, while he stood and waited, and eventually would walk away without being served. Not good!

Another member of our party received dirty looks for ordering several beers during dinner. But all this aside, it was the most beautiful place I've ever seen.

Our stay was cut short by one day due to Hurricane Ivan heading our way. We were able to get an early flight, which was bittersweet. The afternoon we left, it was sunny and beautiful, and although we knew we needed to leave, it was truly hard to. We hope and pray that all who stayed - guests and staff - are safe.

We hope to return in the future.

5.0 stars It was paradise...a dream come true! Visited: July 2004

It was a childhood dream of mine to visit Jamaica, and that it was...a dream. My husband booked it as a suprise for me, and I was overwhelmed.

Royal Decamron was absolutely fabulous. The rooms were spotless, cleaned every day and towels artisticaly folded into swans and hearts! Food was out of this world, and to suit everybody's taste...don't listen to anybody who tells you different.

The staff at the front desk was polite, friendly and always smiling(despite some of the negative reviews I have read). We sometimes had to wait at the bar for a drink, but we hardly noticed, as we were too busy laughing at the bar staff!

The entertainment throughout the day/evening was second to none. And if that wasn't enough, the weather was fantastic, too. If you're looking to fulfill your dreams, the Royal Decameron is the place to go. It certainly made my dreams come true.

Booking this holiday online, my sister and I were a little dubious about the hotel we were going to in Jamaica. Well let me tell you, this was the best place in Jamaica to stay.

The rooms were very clean (every day we had towels and bedding changed, and the floor was swept and mopped). The staff was amazing - very friendly and helpful. The bar staff was fantastic - especially Craig and Ruel.

There was staff to entertain guests in the day, as well as the evening. Very good shows were put on for all guests. And it would be a good place to take young children. We took two children with us, a four-month-old and a 20-month-old, and there were no problems at all.

The food was great - especially for a three-star hotel. Fresh food was prepared every day, snacks were provided when the restaurant closed. There was plenty of food and drink for all. It was just fantastic.

The day we were going home we cried. The staff had become like a second family to us. Even the children seem to be having the signs of some withdrawal since arriving home.

We are still missing Jamaica, and we are getting ready to book for next year. We can't wait!

Our two sons, my husband, mother, and I all enjoyed the Decameron Club very much. There was plenty to do, and as long as your expectations don't exceed your wallet, you'll get everything you pay for and more.

The property was pristine, with fruit and flowers everywhere and the beach was absolutely gorgeous. The food was wonderful, with plenty to chose from. We were there six nights and can't see ourselves ever staying anywhere else.

Both my wife and I, and our guests, had the time of our lives. Not only did we have a wedding made in heaven, but we also had the holiday of a lifetime.

Royal Decameron offered fantastic food, staff, entertainment, and also incredible accommodation.

Not only have our parents returned, but we will be returning in 2006, which is unusual for us as we usually only ever visit a holday resort once.

5.0 stars It was our best holiday ever - don't listen to bad reviews! Visited: May 2004

A friend and I stayed for a week at the Royal Decameron in May. As soon as I got home I wanted to go back!

Our accommodation was fine, we weren't expecting a five-star, plush hotel room, nor did we get one. What we got was a comfortable, clean room with a spacious bathroom and hanging space.

We were situated in the courtyard, but still a two-minute walk to the pool and beach.

The best thing about the holiday was definitely the entertainment crew. By day they kept things fun with pool olympics, melon eating races, beach volley ball and musical chairs (with a jamaican twist). Then they gave guests the peace we needed at meal times only to return again after dinner for more madness!

They always rewarded people who had won the day time competitions with a bottle of rum, so it was worth getting involved. Some nights there were different acts on stage that weren't from the resort (such as reggae singers and dancers), but the best shows were the ones the entertainment crew performed, this included all the day time crew, as well as the beautiful Columbian girls from the kids club.

I am only 18 and was worried that there wouldn't be anything for me to do at night, but after the show I could grab a burger and head to the disco until 2:00 am. It is definitely a must for those who never know when to call it a night!

The food was great, with lots of variety, and there was always something open, either the buffet restaurant, the grill (burgers, pizzas, hot dogs) or the main a la carte restaurant at night.

I would definitely recommend you take plenty of money, because there were loads of trips to go on. Nobody goes to Jamaica without a visit to Dunns River Falls! it was amazing, take a camera.

I was really sad when I had to leave as the people had become good friends and I also made a lot of friends over there from the US. I definitely want to go back as soon as I can.

4.0 stars The Royal Decameron made Jamaica a second home! Visited: January 2004

After a one-week stay in Jamaica, I can say that it will forever be imprinted on my heart. I have to thank the Royal Decameron for part of this!

The resort wasn't as plush as some of the larger, more expensive resorts and thank goodness! It was like a quiet retreat and a second home.

The staff was so completely amazing that I actually cried leaving. I felt like I left part of my family behind. You couldn't ask for a better vacation for the soul.

The entertainment staff was amazing. Girls, I still hope you will teach me some of those dance moves when I return! Kemrod, you'd made me laugh like I haven't in years. You are an angel!

During our stay, they had overbooked the resort and wanted to transfer us to the Marriott Grand in Ocho Rios. This was a serious upgrade and we said "no way." We had already made too many great friends.

If you are looking for privacy and people with no personality, go elsewhere. If you are looking to make new and cherished friends, stay at the Decameron. I will return ASAP.

I've been on a lot of vacations, and this one was by far the absolute best. Two of my girlfriends and I came here for my birthday.

The entire entertainment staff, bartenders, and waiters made this the best birthday ever. I was known as the "birthday girl" the whole time we were here. The food was great, and the drinks and entertainment were even better.

Edward, Kemrod and Tyson from the entertainment crew definitely kept us laughing. Taz was my favorite bartender and Basil was my favorite waiter. Make sure you order the Big Bamboo.

I can't wait to go back and I've only been home a few days.

This was our first trip to Jamaica, and we had a great time. The people were friendly, and the food was good. Every day there were different activities that went on.

The cottage we stayed in was spacious and clean, and was right along the beach. The grounds were beautifully landscaped, with fruit trees and brightly colored bushes. It was really amazing!

I absolutely have no complaints about Royal Decameron. But if I had to pick a couple of things they could improve on, I would have to say their cups. They gave us little plastic cups, and it was hot, so we drank a lot. We were constantly having to get our drinks refilled.

The other thing would be that when we made a call (that wasn't local), we had to pay the front desk a fee each time.

Overall, our trip to Jamaica was a great and unforgettable experience. We can't wait to go back! It truly was an island of paradise.

My wife and I are nursing and education professionals who visit Jamaica every year. This was our first visit to an all-inclusive resort. Royal Decameron Club Caribbean was the ideal place for relaxation, fun, food and entertainment. We are looking to our return next year. Many thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff! Simone, Dwayne, the front desk staff, the maids and bartenders were all great!

4.0 stars When can we go back? Visited: June 2003

We just returned from Club Caribbean and cannot wait to return!

We had a great time and, as other reviews have noted, the staff was great. Before leaving, I read that the desk staff could be rude, but all the ladies there were very helpful and pleasant. The dining and room staff were always around and anticipating our needs.

The food was good. Every night there was a theme (Mexican, Jamaican, etc) and there were always lots of choices. Mexican night was the best - the selection was wonderful and everything was fresh. Hamburgers and hot dogs were offered as the late night snack. Our only complaint was that there were no snacks...chips, pretzels, all the good stuff!! They did sell this in the gift shop, though.

The bar got crowded. We did bring our own insulated glass because the cups they used were only 8 ounces, and you had to keep returning. The staff here was great as well.

The room was spacious and clean, and our maid, Marlene, left us fresh flowers every day. What a nice touch! Our room was back in the garden and it was very quiet, but near the beach.

The only inconvenience was the phone. Guests had to leave a credit at the front desk and you could not dial direct, they usually dialed the number for you. You could purchase calling cards at the gift shop located on the premises.

The shops were great, with lots of gifts to purchase, and there was also a salon that offered hair braiding ($50), massages ($30/30 minutes)and cut and styles, manicures, etc.

There were tours offered in the lobby and the selection was great. I wish I had purchased the Dunn's River Falls tour package there since shopping was offered as well for about the same price I paid on-line. (By the way, there were lots of stalls and shopping after the falls, bring money!) Also, someone lost their engagement ring on the trip, remove your jewelery!

Hope you have a great time, too!

I've been to higher star rated places in the Dominican Republic and St. Lucia, but always wanted to go to Jamaica.

This was a fantastic place to stay, and even though it was a three-star, it compared as highly as the four star accommodations I had been to elsewhere.

Everything was amazing - the food, service, watersports, not to mention the staff!

By the time we left, it was like leaving part of your family behind. For the first time going to the Caribbean, I was not ready to go home. I was still lying by the pool having a red stripe when the bus came to drag us away!

We also made some great friends here, and will be going back as soon as possible!

Special thanks to Dwayne, Simone, Tanisha and all the crew. We hope they are all still here when we get back!

This place was absolute paradise! We booked the hotel for our honeymoon and it certainly lived up to our expectations. Even though it only had a three-star rating, it had five-star staff, food and accommodation!

We had a waterfront cottage (No. 007, James Bond eat your heart out!) and it was divine. What a marvelous idea, to step out of your front door onto a small patio and then the beach!

We have stayed in some top-class hotels, but it would take a lot to beat Club Caribbean for cleanliness - the cleaning staff didn't stop all day and night.

A special mention must go to Douglas, our barman. What a genuine person, always ready with a smile and a "special" cocktail! Also, Verma and Paula were just so friendly.
Morris (porter and all around star) arranged for us to charter our own fishing boat (much cheaper than anyone else and a beautiful craft). It was well worth the time. We brought our catch back to the hotel (tuna) and the chef cooked it for us - wow!

We dined at the Thai a la carte a number of times, but the buffet always had a fantastic variety.

Make sure you go to Dolphin Cove and swim with the dolphins. It was not a cheap excursion, but the memory will stay with us forever. It was truly wonderful.

We loved our time at Club Caribbean and would recommend it to anyone. In fact, our best friends will get married June 2004 and we have said they could not wish for a better place to start married life.
