We had a good vacation. Visited: September 2007

We came here on vacation September of 2006, and we loved it. The hotel was clean, and the service was great!

The food was okay, but not like home. That is to be expected, though. The jerk chicken was great! I think my husband gained ten pounds just eating jerk chicken.

Whoever says this is a bad resort, I would just respond that your vacation is what you make it. Some people just like to complain. We are going back in August 2008!

We enjoyed the service here. Visited: September 2007

A colleague and I stayed at this resort September 10-14. On the morning of the 11th, as we went for breakfast, we were greeted by this very friendly waitress (Kadian).

She had a very pleasant personality, and it was a pleasure for us to meet her at breakfast on mornings. From the second morning, she knew exactly what we wanted, and served us with a smile. She sets a very good example for other waitstaff. More waiters/waitresses with her attitude and personality would make Sunspree more enjoyable.

My colleague and I would like to publicly thank her for her pleasant and caring attitude.

I stayed at this resort for a week, and I absolutely loved it.

The service was incredible, the food was amazing, and it was right across the street from a great little shopping area.

The staff was friendly, and the beach was absolutely beautiful.

I highly recommend staying here with kids. There is lots to do. I don't recommend it for 13-17 year-olds. There's not much for them to do except the gameroom.

Nightly entertainment was top notch. The food was varied and delicious. The beaches were immaculate. The water was warm and clear.

The hotel room itself was basic, but clean. The staff was helpful and polite. I would recommend bringing your own large drinking container. If you bring it, they will fill it. Also, bring your own beach towels.

Dunn's River Falls trip is a must, even though it is very expensive. Water shoes are a must, too.

Bring your own snorkel gear and goggles to use just off the hotel's beach. There is plenty of sealife to see. We loved this place!

I was extremely disappointed. Visited: November 2006
Posted by lar04
This was our third visit to Jamaica, and our first time staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree. It was an extrememly disappointing experience!

The food selection was poor. It was cold, and there were kids sticking thier hands in everything! It was gross!

Our room was dirty. Housekeeping left only one towel for two people in our room three days during our stay! They didn't remove dirty glasses or replace used shampoo/mouthwash amenities, either.

There was a lack of activities at the resort. If it rained, there were no activities - or the staff said they didn't want to get wet!

In addition, we had to pay for water activities and for kids to use the Teen Scene room.

I will not return to this resort and I will not recommend it to anyone else. It was the most awful place I have ever stayed!

Words cannot explain the wonderful service we received. Visited: September 2006

This was the best experience of our life. The staff, the hotel, and the food, were unspeakably good. We had the greatest time ever.

This hotel didn't have room service, and I still thought it was the best ever. The staff and their cordial attitude made our stay incredible.

The cleaniness was "crazy" - they cleaned 24-7. I asked for toothpaste, and I had it in one second from housekeeping.

I loved everything. I've stayed many places and in many hotels but, this was a five-star by far.

It was an experience. Visited: July 2006

You could visit this hotel, and if you are hyper-critical, you could pull it apart. Jamaica was definitely an experience, and a real eye opener for us.

If you are looking for a holiday that is going to give you the creature comforts of home, this is not for you. However, if you are fairly broadminded and are willing to accept the culture and how these people live, I would be amazed if you did not enjoy yourself.

This hotel was certainly no Waldorf Astoria, but if you are looking for that, book a Sandals Resort and pay the extra cash.

My girlfriend and I had a great time. We met lots of great people from all over the world. Two particular members of the staff, Aishlee and Leebert, were outstanding.

The hotel did need improving, and the rooms were basic. The food was a little hit and miss - good some nights not the next. Also, the resort was a little on the small side, but there were lots of other things to do.

We went on a number of trips, which were great. You must do Dunn's River Falls and Dolphin Cove. Yes, there is a massive tipping culture in Jamaica, and they are prepared to ask for them.

That aside, we got speaking to a few locals and we learned what little money they earn. I can understand why tips are important to them.

All in all, we would definitely come back to Jamaica, but not back to the Holiday Inn. The only reason being, this resort is great if you have children, but does not really cater for couples or more mature folks.

To sum up - the hotel was average, the peope were pleasant enough, and the entertainment was okay. You may read lots of reports slating this hotel, but don't let that but you off. We had a great time - loads of fun.

Also, the standards we get at home are not neccesarily the same abroad. Ask yourself, bar sleeping in your room, where do you spend most of your time? Dont heighten your expectations and you won't be disappointed. Your holiday is what you make it.

Don't waste your money by staying here. Visited: July 2006

I would never return to Jamaica - or to the Holiday Inn.

First, the locals seemed to really take advantage of us by charging terrible rates to take us anywhere - $40.00 to take us ten minutes away roundtrip.

Also, the hotel charged prices for excursions that were $75-$100 more than taking a taxi yourself.

I thought the food was awful at the buffet. The Jamaican restaurant was closed four of the six nights we were here - once to set up for something, and the next day for a wedding. Also, the disco had a high school prom going on two nights we were here.

Our room was clean in the middle of the floors, but don't look beside the toilet. Our patio door to the porch outside had about a two-inch gap that bugs could come in, and the door was really hard to open.

Our room key did not work four times. We had to go down and wait in the line at the front to find out why.

When we booked the trip, we knew it was not a Sandals, so we were not expecting top quality. However, to get anything took forever -a drink or a hamburger. They seemed to have that "yo, man" attitude and they would do it when they felt like it.

The service in the buffet and the Italian restaurant was good. Every time we went to the jerk hut, they were out of chicken.

If you are looking to go to Jamaica, I suggest you re-think your trip. We have been to a lot of places, and I will never go back there. If we could have left early, we would have. Everything just moved so slow there, and that's fine. However, when it takes 20 minutes to get a hamburger when you are the first in line (because they just do other things instead of helping you), I have a problem with that.

We read a bunch of reviews, and thought the people who complained were just picky. I wish I would have e-mailed them to find out more. I'm not usually one to complain. I don't need a five-star hotel, but at least it should be clean. They were out of towels washcloths three days we needed them.

Also, Kids' Club was a joke. They put them on mats in front of a TV. My seven-year-old begged us not to send her back. I think the locals used that for daycare, because there were a lot of kids there who I believe lived there. After the girl beside my daughter got "humped' by a young boy, that was the last time we let her go.

Please re-think going to Jamaica. It seemed like everyone was looking for a handout - and they will ask you. For example, the man who just drove us to the airport asked us if we had something for the man. "For what?" was my question. He only drove (which I'm sure he got paid to do).

I'm sorry I don't have anything good to say. I just hope maybe someone reading this will not make the same mistake we did.

It was romantic and fun. Visited: June 2006

The rooms here were great. The TV wasn't working, but didn't matter - we were out-n-about anyways. The food was great, and I loved the breakfast!

Also, the hotel employees were so nice, and always helped with any questions. The different night activities were not too bad. I liked how they changed the dinner location up!

All of the water activities (kayak, paddle boat, snorkel, etc.) were incredible! We loved the putt putt, too! The drinks were great - I liked the red, white and blue frozen one!

The greatest place for a late afternoon snack and just to sit back and take in the breeze was the Jerk Chicken Hut. Man, it made my eyes water and my tongue practically fall out of my mouth because of the spice, but hosing it off with a cold Red Stripe and a slice of soft white bread, really hit the spot!

The only negative thing about the resort was it had a family oriented focus. There were tons of little kids and pee-wees darting in and out of every little place, which would be a great thing for those who are looking for a family oriented resort where kids are a high priority. Believe me, when I'm at that point in my life, and I'm looking for a family resort, I would stay at the Holiday SunSpree in a heartbeat!

If you are looking for a peaceful, yet fun time...and you're either in your 20s or retired couples, I wouldn't recommend getting a quiet stroll on the beach without tripping over a kids' floatee thingy.

I just returned from a great vacation. The staff was wonderful. This is a great resort for families.

There was lots to do. They need to improve the bathrooms, but who spends all their time in there? The food was okay at the buffet - it was a little bland. The Cappuccino restaurant was wonderful. The Seabreeze restaurant was not so great.

Overall, for your money you will be pleased with your stay here. I will definitely return.

I thought this place was horrible. Visited: February 2006

First, when we boarded the plane, we had to get off of it because it was broken. So, we arrived to Jamaica two hours late. Then, at the check-in at the Holliday Inn, we had to wait for a very long time before we were checked in.

The kids were tired, cranky and hungry, but nobody even made an effort to hurry up and check every body in. (I would think the kids should have been first). They only had two clerks checking guests in, and they were not in any hurry at all.

Then, when we got in our room, the lights were not working, and the mirrors were half-peeled off. Also, it was at the very end of the resort, so we had to walk a long way to all main areas with two little kids. I complained to the clerk, and she gave me a room a little closer, but it was still no four-star room.

I have no idea how they got a four-star rating. In this new room, the lights on the wall stopped working on the second day, and the TV was only showing two or three channels. None of the cartoon channels were working. I called for three days in a row about these problems, and every time I called, they said they would send maintenance right away - but nobody ever came.

After three days, I just gave up calling because it was pointless talking to them. So, we stayed without lights in the room. The only light that worked was in the bathroom and the hallway, and the kids could not watch any cartoons.

Also, we paid for four people, but they only gave us a card for two beach towels. So, for two weeks we had to share our beach towels.

The food was good, but nobody was using gloves to handle the food. The food was handled with bare hands.

Also, one day when I had to use a bathroom, I had to go to three different bathrooms before I found the one that was working. The first one had excrement in all of the stalls, and the toilets were not flushing. The second main bathroom had no toilet papers in any of the stalls, so finally I went to lounge room bathroom.

After, a while I just gave up complaining and tried to enjoy the sun. We will never go to Jamaica again. Dominican Rupublic's resorts are half the price and twice as better. I guess Jamaicans need to learn how to move a little faster.

This resort was a really nice place to stay. Visited: January 2006

After I had booked this vacation for my ten-year-old daughter and me, I read the reviews. I was so nervous because of what some people had written about the resort. If you read this review, ignore the bad reviews.

For Jamaica, this resort was wonderful. The rooms were typical Holiday Inn which - was nice. They were clean and quite comfortable. There was a big T.V. with 110 channels (and they were ones that we get at home on satellite).

The food was great, with a wonderful selection. Also, the pool and beach were great. The island was really awesome to go out on. After we ate, we could go for a walk on the beach which was really nice.

There was a pier that people could feed the fish from. We saw puffer fish, angel fish, and other fish that I had never seen before.

The mood at the resort was very laid back. If you wanted to participate in the activities, you could. If you didn't, there was no pressure at all.

Join the Priority Club. It is free, and you will find it on the Holiday Inn web site. There was a long line up if you were not in the Priority Club, and I was the first one to get my room because I had joined the club. You can also e-mail Alicia and give her your club number and she can get you the room of your choice.

Once again, I thought this was a great property. Do not be put off by the people who wrote bad reviews about this property. I normally go to Cancun or the Dominican Republic, and I am going to Jamaica from now on.

I took walkie talkies so that if my daughter did not want to go to the pool, she could put the double lock on the door and I could still lay in the sun this worked great.

Lastly, the security at the resort was the best that I have ever experienced. I never felt nervous at all.

This hotel complex is underrated and under advertised. There are five-star people who work here and are very friendly. Nothing is too much trouble to them.

The rooms are spotless with a top-class housekeeping service. The facilities are easily accessible and cater for wheelchair users. I was injured while on holiday (no fault but my own), and the staff and management were fantastic and very helpful dealing and organizing my medical treatment.

The activity programme is vast and caters to everyone of all ages. Two weeks is not long enough to explore and fully utilize what this hotel complex has to offer.

Special thanks to Mark and Daryl (Duty Managers). I can't thank you all enough!

I took my four children (in their 20s). We all loved the resort. There were a lot of little kids, but it was Christmas.

The food was excellent, and the service was good. The rooms were clean, but not fancy. The beach was not for me, but there were other good features.

It was close to airport. The activities they offered were good - yoga, pilates, and aquafit. No one became ill while we were here. Also, the weather was wonderful. We came home feeling rested.

In addition, we liked the music they played. I found that if you tip them at the desk, they will treat you especially well.

My husband and I stayed with our children (ages 6 and 13) in October for the wedding of my niece. We had a fantastic time. The people were great.

We loved it so much, my husband and I came back alone February 2006 again. We had a perfect vacation. Our room was great, and the staff remembered us and couldn't believe we were already back!

When vacation time comes around again, we will looking into Holiday Inn SunSpree. Although, we love Negril, and would like to stay there for a week. You should open a Holiday Inn in Negril!

It was fantastic! This place was everything I could have wished for.

The food and service were fantastic. They catered to everyone. All the staff - the waiters, barstaff and entertainers - were extremely polite. Also, the hotel rooms were very clean and comfortable.

As for entertainment, there was plenty to do - day or night.

This place is good for kids. Visited: August 2005

The food was good and plentiful. The staff was friendly, and most of them went out of their way to help. They also made great drinks!

The pool bar should be open later, and they should serve food.
I only saw one clock the entire time, and that was in our room. It made the days blend into each other, which was great for us.

If you want to be alone, I suggest you find another place to stay. There were a ton of kids here.

There was not much to do at night for the adults, and everything seemed to be geared towards the little kids. It didn't look like the teenagers were having much fun either.

If you're going on the Martha Brey River Raft Tour, make sure you bring dollar bills, because they swim to your raft trying to sell trinkets. I really did not think it was worth $108 for this tour.

In addition, be prepared to spend an hour or two at immigration when you land, and there is no air conditioning there. Go to the line all the way at the far end. It was the fastest and it still took us an hour. It was the same thing on the way back.

Also, if you smoke Newports, bring your own. I couldn't find any on the island.

All in all, it was a pretty good trip, and we plan on going back again.

I got back from holiday two weeks ago. I enjoyed every minute of my stay here. The rooms were basic - but who needs to sleep while in Jamaica? Waking up to the wonderful beach view was phenomenal; something I could only ever dream of living in England.

The food was great, and there was a good selection for all you fussy eaters!

The majority of the staff was friendly - Stuart on reception, and Antoinette and Leslie were fantastic.

I recommend it to all!!
