My husband and I went to Jamaica to get married, which turned out to be the best vacation ever! We did a lot of research on where we should get married and we narrowed it down to Jamaica and Mexico. In Jamaica, the marriage fees were included with the price of package where as in Mexico, it would cost extra and there would blood tests that needed to be taken once you got there (the idea of someone taking blood from me in Mexico was not appealing).

Anyway, once we arrived at the airport in Montego Bay, we got on a van right away that started us on our two-hour, uncomfortable drive to Negril. At the resort, we were greeted by staff with a refreshing cocktail and went off to our room for a nap! Yes, we were exhausted, as we came from Nova Scotia, Canada, and it was a very long trip.

Basically, our routine for the whole week was to get up around 8:30 AM every morning, head to the Captain's Table for breakfast (which usually included omelettes --mmmmm!), went to the beach and lounged there for awhile, took a walk along the beautiful beach (sometimes to other resorts further up and talked to other tourists). After lunch, which we usually had at the Beach Grill, we would sunbathe again and take a nap before supper. At night we always ate at one of the 2 restaurants at the resort where the service was top notch, and the food was fabulous. (My husband especially liked the jerk pork and chicken.) After supper we would sit around and watch the nightly entertainment, which was all right, but nothing to write home about. We hit the sack early, as the booze and the heat wear you out.

We got married on a Tuesday at 2 in the afternoon and the service we received that day was out of this world. Everyone made sure it was a day that we would remember for the rest of our lives. Strangers at the bar gave us a toast afterwards and the bar staff gave us a bottle of wine and wine glasses to take to our room. We went to Jamaica to get married, relax, tan, and have fun. This is not a resort for young single ladies or men, as it is very laid back and relaxing.

By the way, I would advise anyone who comes to Negril to go to Rick's Cafe! What a blast! I have been at a Hard Rock Cafe before and it is very similar. They had a band there that played Shaggy's famous song, "It wasn't me" and they put on an excellent show for the famous sunsets. That was a very fun night.

Overall, this place was great, but we probably won't go back until our 10th anniversary or something, as it is expensive and once you have seen the Caribbean, you have seen it all.

4.0 stars Relaxing, comfortable home sweet home. Visited: February 2001

We have visited Beaches Sandy Bay (previously Poinciana and Beaches Inn) for 6 years running. The beach and weather are not to be outdone. The staff is unusually friendly. Our three young children are always incredibly safe, happy and extremely tired for bedtime and or naptime. Wherever they roam they are supervised. What quality time that allows for mom and dad. Put a price on that; I can't.

The property is immaculate. The rooms are older but ever year significant improvements are being made. Honestly, so little time is spent in room, that we are comfortable. The restaurants are limited, but once you figure out how to use all three properties that are available, it becomes something like 10 restaurants available, 6 within walking distance.

Scuba is my vice and it is good to see that they have now included scuba at the resort. Although for the adventurous outside diving is available. The nightlife is slow, but usually we're so tired that 10:30 is crash and burn anyway. This is no swinging singles type resort! Family, Family, Family. If that’s what you want, that’s what you get here.

The staff becomes extended family and friends. The return guests are numerous, and close. We keep in touch year round and look forward to our yearly two weeks. If you like comfortable and not really fancy, this is for you! If fancy is your desire, go to Beaches or Sandals! In a nutshell, this is the best type B vacation I have taken. I return home very relaxed and stress free. As always everything is what one makes of it. If you enjoy slow and easy, Beaches Sandy Bay is a good start.

4.0 stars A great trip for a family of four. Visited: February 2001

Our travel agent recommended Beaches Inn as a good value, which it was. Seven nights at this all-inclusive resort was terrific, and was a direct flight from Detroit and the MLT Rep. From the airport we got directly on the bus that took us to Negril. The two-hour ride to the hotel was bumpy and a bit too long, but you get to see all the local towns. We learned the alternative is a private $50/person air ride to Negril.

One problem we had was the Deluxe Room was too small for 2 adults and 2 teenage girls, but when I expressed our disappointment to the front desk they agreed to upgrade us to a large Beachfront Room the next day without any additional cost. The staff was very friendly, provided great service, and were fun to talk to. The room view, beach and grounds were just breathtaking.

There was something for everybody with the wide variety of food at each meal. The wine selection could have been better. Blue Mountain Coffee 24 hours is great, anything you want from the bar, and the Almond Tree Grill (open 20 hours/day) had great jerk chicken/dog/burgers and fries. The kids had a great time getting tan and just hanging around. If you like group activity it’s there, good water sports at no cost, lots of people watching on the beach, or you can just float in the pool. Golf and shopping in town was so-so, but you get to experience some of the local culture. We had visiting rights to Sandals and Beaches Resorts nearby as well. We were surprised by how many return visitors we met. We’re already thinking about returning next year. We would recommend it if it fits your budget.

4.0 stars The best family vaction ever Visited: August 2000

We stayed at Beaches Inn for 7 day and nights, and it was the best vaction that our family has ever taken. With two adults and 3 kids (17,14,12) there was something for everyone. All of the empolyees made you feel at home, and always had something for you to do. We also went to the other Beaches and found oursleves liking Beaches Inn more.

The food was good, however if you are planning on eating at any of the other places at the resort, book it when you first get there.

Overall, this was the best vaction that our family has ever been on, and it was enjoyed by everyone.

5.0 stars Excellent resort but booking service disappointing. Visited: May 2000

May 2000 We decided to stay at Beaches Inn because it looked like the very best place to spend our Honeymoon. Sadly, after having traveled for 10 hours on a plane, having the Rep at the airport in Montego Bay tell us we're not listed but get on the bus anyway, the rollercoaster ride of our life to Negril, and then we were told they didn't know we where coming. They didn't offer any special attention i.e. room upgrade, flowers or even a bottle of Fizzy wine. Totally disappointed.

BUT the place, the island, the beach, and the staff(Amber especially) were fantastic. We would dearly love to revisit this resort, and in the future we probably will.

3.0 stars The stay was pleasant. The beach was great. Visited: April 2000

April 2-9, 2000.

This resort is a nice family resort. It offers everything a family requires to spend quality time together. I would not recommend this hotel if what you are looking for is a rocking good time. If all you want is good food, sun and a great beach this is the place to go.

Things are very quiet at night. By 10:30 p.m. it's lights out. The disco is very poor. If you're a pool person stay away from this hotel. If you're a beach person then okay.

One nice thing is that you get to use three hotels for the price of one. This is great. The Sandals and the Beaches are quite different from the Poinciana. One big plus!!

The services are great and very well organized. You certainly get your monies worth!!

The ride to and from the airport is rough (depending on what bus you catch). Going was great the retun was absolutely awful. The scenery is sad and be prepared to experience poverty.

The locals are friendy, however, being a frequent traveler, this is not the friendliest place I have visited. Do not expect too much or you will be disappointed.
