The Hotel Mocking Bird Hill was a stunning place with good facilities for someone with limited mobility. My husband and I had a wonderful, relaxing holiday.
The hotel was beautiful and the food was amazing. We had a great time sampling all the different meals, and watching fireflies amid the sounds of the forest. The homemade breads were especially delicious. The vegetarian menu was very good and there was a good choice every night. The staff was really friendly and helpful. They made our holiday really special.
The rooms were beautiful with a verandah and a hammock looking out towards the sea. It was also nice to see that they were so environmentally conscious.
We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was far enough away from town to have a quiet time, but near enough to town to make it easy enough for sightseeing.
There was so much to see and do that we only really skimmed the surface. We left a part of us in Port Antonio and will definitely be going back to stay at Hotel Mocking Bird Hill. |

This place is located on Fairy Hill in the vicinity of the Blue Lagoon. What a hill it is! You proceed way up and you have a great vista of the Port Antonio Bay. This resort is very, very, ecologically conscious and has won numerous awards for being so. I chose to stay here because I was always curious about it.
There are no telephones, TV’s, microwaves, etc. in the rooms. The property is very, very lush with practically no disturbance of nature surrounding it. Trees haven’t been cut, foliage is undisturbed, etc.
We stayed in one of the 1 bedroom ocean view rooms. The rooms have hammocks on all the terraces. It is a type of resort that feels like you are staying at someone’s home. There are German Shepherds lying around which gives that homely feeling to the place.
Hotel Mocking Bird Hill has 10 rooms and is small and very intimate. What type of a traveler seeks such a resort? Folks, if you truly seek lodging that’s out of this world peaceful, then HMBH is the place. I wouldn’t recommend it for more than 2-3 days since there are no (and I mean no) activities; the reason for staying there is to be totally enveloped by nature. All you hear are birds chirping, night creatures, etc., nothing else!
The hotel provides a free shuttle to Frenchman’s Cove beach. If you seek other amenities/activities you will have to go elsewhere. All we did there was eat and spent both mornings and evenings walking around the immediate area and walking up and down the hill from the main road for exercise.
The food from the restaurant was excellent and the service was as intimate as it can get while staying at a hotel. The food was pricey though and you do find your self giving in to the charges since the hotel is high-up on the hill and proceeding elsewhere is somewhat of a pain.
I would recommend HMBH for the traveler who wants total seclusion for a day or two. After that you may want to choose someplace with more options. We did not encounter any Americans, mainly Europeans. |

This was an overpriced hotel that does not take care of problems. We overpaid and when we did not have hot water, neither owner would offer a rebate or even an apology. There was nothing to do and the food is over-priced because of the locale. The lack of competition in the area makes this property a poor value. |

| This artistic, peaceful property perched on a lush hilltop in Port Antonio is based on an ecology-minded philosophy. Owner/manager Barbara Walker's sculptures, paintings and mixed media works pleasingly decorate every nook, creating a personal and aesthetically pleasing environment. It is an ideal setting for guests who want to explore the... |
