We enjoy the snorkeling. Visited: February 2008
Posted by northdakota
We go on a vacation to be outside in the sun and water. This is the place for that.

It is so quiet, and you can snorkel all day long by the cliffs. We saw more marine life here than on any tour we have ever paid for.

The rooms were clean, and that was about all. The meals and food were wonderful. You can walk the Seven Mile Beach, but you have to walk through Hedonism to get there. It was the most relaxing place we have ever stayed, and it will be the only place we stay from now on.

This place was almost paradise. Visited: September 2006

I thought the rooms needed a bit of an upgrading.

However, everything else was perfect. The grounds, the scenery, beaches, and all the staff were amazing. One man who stood head and shoulders above everyone was Lesley Layne - what a star. His was a smile never forgotten, and he is a friend never forgotten. Thanks mate.

There were amazing sunsets, incredible sea life, and wonderful food here. Also, the service was great, and smiles were everywhere.

This is a great resort. Visited: June 2005
Posted by natalinadc
This is a great place! The resort had a special touch. They made these rock pools (that I spent most of my time in) that were simply amazing.

The ocean water was not your typical blue. It was this great shade of light beautiful green, which made for a great change. Although the beach area was a little small, there were not that many tourists when we went. I could just imagine in high season, I am sure you can barely take two steps without stepping on someone.

We went for a special trip to the falls, but not Dunn's River - it was too commercialized for us. We asked around and we went to Mayfield Falls which was a one-kilometer hike in the water. The water was freezing, but once we got in it was so fantastic! It was worth trying it out!

There were lots of restaurants to choose from, and the resort was so big you could get lost in it.

The room was a little small, and we had a view of the front entrance. It was nothing to brag about. We were also on the main level. We would have liked a balcony ocean view. But, a room is a room - no big deal!

The food was good, and the staff was friendly.

The only recommendation I can make is that if you land in Montego Bay, I suggest you pay the extra and take that small flight that brings you to Negril. If you don’t, you will get stuck in a small, no air conditioning bus on a bumpy road for a two-hour ride.

It was above amazing. Visited: August 2004

I was so pleased with the hotel and all the extras. I looked forward to the meals - and the evening meal was a treat every night.

They provided different entertainment. Also, the hotel staff was extra nice with their special care. No one was overlooked, as they seemed to care that guests had a pleasant stay and that they were comfortable.

I traveled with my grandchildren, and the children's center was everything I could have asked for. The children were well taken care of. I have never seen children so wanting to get loose from their parents and grandparents and enjoy themselves.

If you have children and want some vacation time to yourself, and enjoy being with and without the children, this is the place for you. There is more to this hotel then meets the eye. It was just a beautiful, wonderful vacation. I enjoyed it! I will return next year looking for some special deals for Point Village.

I thought is was awful; but I guess it depends on what you're used to. Visited: July 2004
Posted by sharbye
My 20-year-old son and I stayed at Point Village July 16-19. I wanted a family-style budget trip, but really regret it now. We thought the resort was awful.

The jacuzzi was lukewarm, the food was covered with gnats, and worse yet, some of the locals who hung around the resort were trying to proposition my son with prostitution. To top it off, the entertainment included a midget who couldn't sing.

The staff seemed unresponsive to our complaints that the bathtub drain was clogged, our phone was not working, and we only had cable reception the first day. I'm still trying to figure out how my son existed on pineapple the whole trip.

My last three trips to Jamaica were stays at Sandals Montego Bay and Couples Negril. If five-star quality is what you're used to, don't ever stay at Point Village. It's rated three-star, but in my opinion, it was more like two-star.

This is not bad for the price. Visited: June 2004
Posted by aliciama
I've stayed at this resort twice - once in 2001, and once in 2004. I have also stayed at three other resorts in Negril. For the price, this place is a pretty good value.

All your food, drinks, non-motorized water sports (i.e. snorkeling, kayaking, sunfish sailing, etc.) are included, as is a glass bottom boat ride (highly recommended). Your airport transfers are also included.

Some reviewers have complained about the ants, but having been to Jamaica seven times, I'll tell you that those little buggers are everywhere. It's a tropical place, so it can be hard to get rid of them. They're very little, but still a bit of a nuisance.

This is a middle-of-the-road place, so you can't expect top-notch quality. If you're looking for a place to lay in the sun and eat and drink as much as you want, this place isn't bad.

If you want to go into the town of Negril, it's a bit far and the on-site taxis will charge about $10-15. The people at the resort won't tell you, but you can walk out to the road and take a route taxi (they have red license plates) for about $2 US. These taxis simply go back and forth on the beach road and are what people in "the know" use. You may have to share the taxi with other riders, but for the price, it's worth it. Also, if you want to get off the resort and see the town, try other restaurants, etc. you may want to stay at a resort closer to town where you can walk to a lot of things.

The buffet is okay, but gets a little redundant. The restaurant that serves Jamaican food is probably the best food here. For the best drinks, look for a bartender named O'Brian. He makes the best drinks, trust me!

The grounds are very pretty, and the rooms aren't bad. We had a two-bedroom townhouse with two full bathrooms, a kitchen, and a balcony on both floors. This resort has more property than most of the other hotels in Negril.

Like I said, it's not the Ritz, but that's not what you're paying for. I like this resort enough that I'm considering having my wedding here. Hope this helps!

Spend your hard-earned money somewhere else! Visited: July 2003
Posted by busa_blade
Customer service at this place is as poor as it gets. They advertise reconditioned rooms (their idea of reconditioned means that the exterior sports a fresh coat of paint that attempts to cover imperfections in the previous coat that attempted to cover imperfections in the previous coat/construction, etc.). The rooms were on the small side but adequate enough if you don’t plan to spend much time there. (Who would want to anyway?)

Firstly, we had a huge ant problem. I don't know about most people, but I prefer not to spend my hard-earned money to sleep in a room where I have to worry about ants crawling into my things. This would have been okay if the management would have tried to rectify the problem with anything other than the solution of, “spray and stay”. They were going to have housekeeping spray the room and we were supposed to just deal with it. They said that there was nothing else that they could do about it. To me and my fiancé, this was not acceptable. We were essentially paying $200/night to stay in a resort where we were constantly under a barrage of ants besides the normal insects that can be expected. I was extremely polite realizing that many Americans come off as very nasty when dealing with other cultures, but that got me absolutely nowhere. As far as I was concerned, they had my money and had absolutely no incentive nor motivation to attempt to be any more accommodating. After trying for more than 30 minutes to get another room and being presented with the standard lie (we are at 100% capacity), they finally gave us another room.

We got to that room only to discover that we not only still had ants, but now roaches to boot. We gave up on trying to deal with the front office because it was obvious that they really didn't care about our experience. The same night that we got the new room, we also got a retaliation phone call from the front receptionist (male) with another receptionist(female) laughing in the background and teasing us for not wanting to pay to stay in an ant-filled room. We had enough and asked to speak to the manager on the following day. He gave us the same story about the resort being at 100% capacity, which I could have accepted if it wasn't for the fact that you could see that it clearly wasn't at 100% capacity. He declined to give us another room and suggested that for our remaining time that we continue the spray and stay tactic. He also gave us a can of spray to keep the ants at bay ourselves. This is what your money buys you. The food and drinks(non-alcoholic) left much to be desired due to lack of selection.

I own a condo at Point Village. Some of the places are publicly owned and some privatly owned. If you are interestd in staying at a nice two story townhouse with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, contact me. We have newly renovated the whole house with new flooring, new paint, and new beds. If you are interested please contact me and I would be happy to tell you about it and make a quote for rental. We can rent without going through the resort. My e-mail is karlwnelson@hotmail.com
I live in the States.

ps we can be cheaper than the resort for renting

Not what I paid for. Visited: February 2003
Posted by jharding234
I visited Point Village on my second trip to Jamaica. The first trip I stayed in Montego Bay, and the resort was beautiful, so I was excited for this trip and left a little disappointed.

The rooms seemed to be nice; some with crown molding, paintings on the wall, a remote for the television and a refrigerator. My room had none of these, not even the standard coffee table (all of which was guaranteed). Also, every time I went to my room, I was hassled by the off duty staff that lived in some of the "cottages" next to mine, whether for a handout (my clothes, money, or cologne) or to buy drugs from them. This sums up the room experience. Oh, wait, the "couch" was a bed with two pillows that turned it into a couch and we didn't have hot water after the first shower was taken.

The service was mediocre. Except for one lady named Sheyryl at the bar, everyone seemed bothered to help. Everytime one asks for a drink or for the waiter to take their order, the Jamaican response is "No Problem," but the bothered attitude they reflected told me it was a big problem.

The resort was beautiful, as far as the foliage and rock cliffs were concerned, but the beach was a bit rocky and their was limited seating.

The food was second rait, unless it was traditional Jamaican food, then it was very good.

It was not a terrible place, but on my first trip to Jamaica, the resort I stayed in was much better than this one (and cheaper). Make sure the price you get is a good one, and don't expect the service to be first class.

We had a really good trip at a good value. Visited: August 2002
Posted by rottini
My family (2 parents, daughter-12, sons-11 and 7) visited Point Village for a week. It was our first experience with an all-inclusive resort, and we definitely liked it. The resort was not perfect, but by focusing on the good, we were able to have a terrific time. I think we got what we paid for.

The food was not the best. My husband and I always found something we liked, but the kids had a harder time. We often ate burgers and salads at the bar, rather than the buffet. (Note: don't expect burgers and pizza here to be like Burger King and Pizza Hut products.)

The adults really liked the Italian restaurant, and all of us liked the Jamaican jerk chicken and pork. I found the buffet disappointing at first, but got over it. And I wasn't tempted by tons of incredibly delicious food - well, at least I didn't gain too much weight!

We stayed in a two bedroom townhouse, which was the main reason our travel agent recommended Point Village. It was not at all luxurious, but it was spacious and clean. The floors were not carpeted, which was okay, but it got loud when someone walked upstairs.

The two bathrooms in our unit were old, but not gross. Everything worked. Housekeeping missed us one day. We complained politely to the front desk and had no other problems during our stay.

The main beach was small but lovely. There were ants on beach, so bring spray. The pool was smaller than I expected, and I was a little disappointed when I first saw it, but it turned out to be just fine - it was never overcrowded. My favorite spot was the rock pools. There was nothing better than floating in the rock pool with a drink in your hand, watching the sunset.

There were plenty of activities, but it was not go-go-go all the time. The snorkeling was terrific right on site, and we never had to wait for equipment. There was no wait for kayaks or sailboats, either. The staff would sometimes start games in pool or on the beach. Evening entertainment was okay - if you got into it, it was fun, but it was not Vegas-revue quality. We didn't do the disco.

The kids' programs weren't attractive to my kids, but the boys played video games at the kids club for a couple hours daily, giving us a break. The kids' staff was friendly and nice. Our 12-year-old wasn't interested, but loved the bar (Shirley Temples).

The staff at the resort was friendly and helpful, but remember you're on "island time." Mostly, we ignored what wasn't perfect, reminding ourselves that we hadn't paid for a 5-star resort, and couldn't expect perfection. We had fun!

Not all it's cracked up to be Visited: August 2001
Posted by singlili
Visited Point Village on my 2nd trip, after visiting the Riu, which was great.  The actual swimming beach is very small so it's crowded, the rest is too rocky. There are a lot of families, not a lot of singles. The rooms were just okay (we didn't even have screens so we had to keep the windows closed and buy mosquito candles!) and it's right next to Hedonism so if you have a problem with that, make sure your room isn't on that side.  The bathroom was not the greatest either and the room cleaning is not the best.

The staff was virtually invisible except at the front desk and the one restaurant and the bartenders are stingy at the beach bar (it's all-inclusive, why should they be?).  No one ever asked if we were comfortable.  We had a run-down air-conditioner that was so loud and barely worked.  And when we invited one of our Jamaican-native friends for dinner ONLY it cost $40 US!  The food is very basic and not worth that kind of money.  We ate a full-course meal at a small restaurant that was much better and cost only $10 per person.

The 'nightclub' is a small room of a cottage with few people and they don't do much to encourage guest participation.

The only good thing is that it's been there for a while, so the foliage is beautiful.

Overall, I definitely would not return to the Point Village.

Nice place to bring children. Visited: August 2001
Posted by karyntwo
I just returned from Point Village. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. The rooms were large, but I was told there was a sleeper sofa, which turned out to be just a day bed. The showers in the bathrooms could use a little work. The food was pretty good.

This is a great place if traveling with children without costing too much money. Housekeeping could have been much better. We had to call constantly for towels and facecloths.

The staff is friendly and the dinner shows were nice. They could use more choices for liquor and food at the grill. The bars consisted of mostly rum or Red Stripe beer, neither of which I drink, but you could always get cokes, water, and other drinks. Food and beverages are available almost 24 hours and all the children there seemed to be having a lot of fun. I did not go to the disco, but taxi service is available to take you to other Negril nightlife. There are also three stores on the property and all of the staff members were very polite.

A wonderful holiday! Visited: June 2001
Posted by crisp13
Me, my husband and our 2 daughters (ages 2 and 4) stayed at Point Village and had the best time! The resort is a bargain: beautiful gardens, good food, clean rooms (our 1-bedroom suite with kitchen and 2 balconies was nice), and an excellent staff—from babysitters to bartenders.

The beach isn't big, but the kids loved it, for adults there is a special beach and rock pools. Point Village is very laid back and quiet during the day, but the nightclub was good. The watersports shop is nice, but you have to sign up ahead for activities. The kids loved the glass bottom boat trip. We also went on a trip to see an old lighthouse in Negril and on the shopping trip (transportation was provided by PV).

Our girls had the best time at the Kiddie Center with treasure hunts and fishing trips! I wish that PV had better menu for kids, like mac & cheese or soups, all they had was hotdog-fries and sandwiches. I recommend bringing some ready-to-eat foods for your little ones (2 or 3 ready-to-microwave Chef Boyardee will do). Our girls really enjoyed the wonderful milkshakes and fruit drinks that the bartenders made for them. For us it was jerk pork!

Going with Air Jamaica vacations was a good choice; a PV representative met as at the airport in Montego Bay and took us from and to the airport (on the way back) without delay. Overall, it was a great trip!

You get what you pay for Visited: May 2001
Posted by NMCKENZIE
I went to Jamaica for the first time in December of 2000 and stayed at Hedonism III where I met my future husband. We decided to get married in May 2001 (he lives there and I live in the states).

We chose Point Village because the brochures made it appear to be a beautiful place and the wedding was included. Needless to say the rooms were very disappointing! The first one had a busted air-conditioner that looked like it was going to fall off the wall. There were no decorations in the rooms as the brochures displayed. Not one picture on the wall, flowers etc. We requested another room and when we arrived it was exactly the same. There was a day bed where a sofa was supposed to be.

The only part about my stay at Point Village I enjoyed was the good job that the wedding coordinator did arranging our wedding (Inderia - she is wondeful).

The grounds were in serious need of reconditioning. The paint on the buildings was sun damaged and old and it seemed that half of the resort was occupied by residents and not tourists.

One female bartender was very rude to my husband. To the point that I said to him that he might want to get a drink somewhere else and others waiting noticed her attitude. I would not recommend this property if you want good service---only if you want some sun!

The perfect place to relax! Visited: April 2001
Posted by milesjen
We just returned from a wonderful weeklong visit to Point Village. This hotel is perfect for anyone looking for fun-filled days and relaxing evenings. There is not much nightlife here; it's not a "party" resort. The three bars do not have bands or entertainment, rather boom boxes playing light music. The main dining room offers a nightly live band, which plays great music until 10:30pm. The disco was empty until around midnight when people would drift in after the other bars would close. The bars offered friendly service, but I was disappointed to see that they did not have any top-shelf liquors.

The food was adequate. The buffet-style main dining hall served three meals daily. The food was tasty, but they didn't offer much variety or selection. The two restaurants offer a quiet alternative to the buffet. One has items such as Lite American fare during the day, and authentic Jamaican cuisine at night. The other restaurant serves delicious pizza during the day and excellent pasta dishes in the evening.

The main beach has plenty of sand and a fair amount of room to swim, while also offering great snorkeling too. They have a beach bar and a volleyball court which the "Best Friends", or the Resort entertainers, initiate games daily. They also have local merchants selling goods, but remember to negotiate. Since these merchants are on the beach, we didn't feel the need to venture into Negril to shop. There is an adults-only beach that is nice, next to the clothing optional resort, Hedonism.

The rock pools as well as the regular pool and Jacuzzi were wonderful. Be sure to check out all of the great things to do at the watersports shack. We really enjoyed kayaking! The rooms are clean and the grounds are beautiful. The resort has pre-arranged taxi services for many popular attractions. Try to check out some of the activities they offer outside of the resort and make sure that you bring enough money for these excursions. We found ourselves out of money and facing an 8% service charge to get a cash advance from the hotel. There are ATM's in Negril, but it's about a $20 ride into the city. We had a great time, and you get a great value for your money. It exceeded my expectations for a 3-star resort. It's a great place if you want to relax, but it also offers enough daytime activities to keep the active people busy.

A Real Family Fun Resort Visited: March 2001
Posted by havesonns3
This is the place to go, in Negril, if you want to take the kids along. What an entertainment staff they have! We were as busy as we wanted to be, yet as relaxed as we've been in a long time.

The resort grounds are lovely and very well kept. The food/drink outlets are spread out accordingly and offer great service.

We thought the food was ok in general with breakfast being the best meal of the day. I liked the Italian cafe but it was always very crowded. I think they should expand on that menu as well as the patio to accommodate more patrons.

Our 2 bedroom townhouse was incredible! Large, spacious and offering two bathrooms. There were 5 of us and we never "ran into each other". The housekeeping was immaculate everyday.

In walking down the beach, off the resort, I truly think PV had the most versatile landscaping with its 2 beaches and salt water rock pools. Most of the 7 mile resorts I saw were just long, narrow stretches of beach.

We will definitely go back. Our 3 sons are already planning the trip!

Best vacation ever!! Visited: June 2000
Posted by danapettit
We stayed at Point Village from June 19-22, 2000. Most of the staff were very friendly, especially those at the outdoor bars. The drinks were good (try the fruitpunch w/rum or vodka). The food was buffet style. There isn't a wide variety of food at each meal, but it was good. The breakfast omelets and fresh fruit was the best meal of the day. Try their jerk chicken and pork also!

This wasn't a luxury resort, but definitely worth the money. The rooms were spacious, with comfortable beds, and cool air-conditioning. The bath could use some remodeling. The showers were very small and there was no cabinet space for belongings.

The main glitch for me was the phone system. If calling the states, you had to either call collect or charge it on a credit card to your room. They weren't set up to use calling cards. I spent a small fortune on getting voice mails when trying to call home. ($10 for 10 min. I believe.)

The grounds were beautiful, the water clear. The beach area was small but the rock pools were very nice to relax in with a drink, and the snorkeling was great right at the resort. The people who run the watersports shop were really nice.

We didnt have a chance to view the other resorts, but we could see their beachfront while taking a glass-bottom boat trip. I much prefer Point Village with their lush gardens and rock pools over the other resorts sandy, sunny beaches. You can't beat the atmosphere and you can always take a cab toward the cliffs for some nighttime fun!

Point Village had live music every night we were here. If you want to lay back and relax, this is the place. I can't wait to go back!!

One of the best! Visited: March 2000
Posted by sarah_mc21
I visited Point Village in March of 2000. Luckily, we vacationed one week prior to spring break so there were not too many college-aged kids!
Let me begin with the beaches. There were three. The main beach was for swimming, it wasn't very big, but nice. The second beach was basically for snorkeling. I spent much time here! The third beach was "clothing optional" because it was situated adjacent to Hedonism II!

The food was good, although the menu did not vary much and we soon became tired of it. Snacks such as burgers and pizza were available all day. The chef, who made the omlettes in the morning, was the best!

Service was typically Jamaican, laid back and slow, but the people were nice. It also takes a while to get used to the Jamaicans approaching you with something to sell. I must say, the Jamaican peddlers put used-car salesmen to shame!

The rooms were very nice and clean and included a balcony. Overall, this resort was awesome for the money we paid. After venturing out in Negril, I would have to say Point Village was one of the best. Some of the others were scary, excluding Sandals and Hedonism.

My advice is if you're looking for luxury, Point Village is not it...but if you're looking to have fun and relax for a good price, this is the place!

It was FABULOUS Visited: July 1999
Posted by dtrahan
My July 4-8th vacation was FABULOUS! I actually celebrated my "40th" birthday over there & I can't wait to go back in July 2000 or sooner. The people at Point Village were so nice to me, my sister and my best-friend from the time we touched down at the airport to the time we departed. We did not want to come back to Houston, TX. The movie, "How Stella Got Her Groove Back", had nothing on my trip. The name of my trip was "How Della Got Some More Groove". I brought the big "40" in so "GOOD". Thanks to Mr. Cornell & Staff at Point Village. Thanks Dell T.

A great family holiday in paradise! Visited: April 1999
Posted by SarahPD229
We holidayed there Easter of '99 for three weeks and it was fantastic! (A few tiny hitches, though.) We wished we had avoided Easter week as the spring breakers from the USA were there in droves and totally took over the place for the first week of our holiday, but all that calmed down when they left and we could actually get to the bar!!

The service is typically Jamaican, laid back and mostly friendly! The swimming pool isn't very big and the beach isn't too large, either. But make sure you amble on down to the salt water rock pools, as these are quieter and only a one minute walk from the bar!

The whole place is really pretty, the gardens are maticulously maintained and the sea is clean. Snorkelling was brilliant. The kids club (in my 5-year-old's opinion) was a little boring! There was not too much to do unless they were taken out of the kid's club centre, or one of the livelier nannies were there to play with them.

The food was okay, but the breakfasts were the best. There is a chef who cooks omellettes to order and they were yummy!!

When we arrived, I wasn't too impressed with our room. It was a little shabby and the sofa beds for the kids was broken and dangerous. We asked to be moved and were told there was no more apartments, received the usual complimentary fruit and bottle of sparkling wine, got the bed haphazardly repaired and were advised we'd be moved as soon as possible. We didn't get to move until the second week, but I got a choice of three much more luxurious apartments.

Overall, the holiday was memorable, my husband became the point village volleyball champion and I was karaoke queen for the night.

I think we'll go back someday. In fact, I know we will.
