We spent two weeks at Xtabi Club Resort and we loved it.

The food, especially the Lobster Thermidor, was great. The staff and management was very helpful, and made our stay a great experience.

We loved it.

1.0 stars This is the worst hotel in Jamaica. Visited: September 2009

This hotel is unbelievably bad. It is completely run down, and it is very dangerous.

All of the swim platforms to the sea are broken. Plus, there is a major highway (Lighthouse Road) nunning right through the middle of it. Lighthouse Road passes between the restaurant and the reception area, and carries tour buses, trucks, and speeding cars at all hours of the day and night.

Don't stay at this hotel. It is a complete ripoff.

This is simply the worst possible hotel that you could ever imagine. We absolutely hated this place. It is a ripoff. We only paid $70 for the room, but the room stunk and was full of insects. There were bedbugs in the bed and cockroaches on the floor. We tried to get our money back and the manager gave us all kinds of attitude. These people are major con artists.

EDITORS NOTE: You get what you pay for. I would not expect much from a $70 hotel in the states, much less in Jamaica. You paid for a cheap hotel and got it.

5.0 stars Xtabi was a fantastic place to stay. Visited: August 2009

What a difference new owners make! Xtabi was recently sold and the focus now is really on customer service. My wife and I decided to stay here since our first choice (Rockhouse) was sold out.

It turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to us. We saved a lot of money and had a fantastic time at Xtabi. The new owners really know how to treat you right!

1.0 stars This was a week from hell. Visited: July 2008

The only thing good about this place was the mango tree by the pool that provided free mangos.

This place is definitely on the wane. Ants and biting bugs were a problem. Cleanliness was okay - but not great.

The biggest issue was security. One lady had $900 stolen. Security guards roamed the place every night, and there were two large dogs that were tied on the premises. Cars and motorbikes raced at high speed on the narrow road that bisected the place. Security in general seemed to be a big issue in Jamaica according to the local newspaper.

Another big disappointment was that there was no beach. The nearest beach was at least 2/3 miles away.

I suggest if you go to Jamaica, stay at an all inclusive, and don't leave the premises. It was a beautiful place, but plan carefully!

5.0 stars This was the best vacation ever! Visited: April 2005

Xtabi was the best - and I mean best - hotel I have ever stayed at!

It was so clean, the rooms were large, and the staff at the restaurant and bar were the best ever. They were so friendly. Also, snorkeling was awesome, and I enjoyed great views.

I just loved it! I will plan to return every year.

1.0 stars Very Disappointing Visited: March 2004
Posted by natdawg
After reading the glowing reviews about the property, I was eager to visit Xtabi - what a disappointment. Our room was very dirty, the staff was pleasant but ignorant about the workings of the resort, the phone rates to call the US, or what the details were of our inclusive special we were paying for. It was obvious that management was poor and the staff was trying their best to compensate. What results is a resort, in a nice location, however...that is the only good part. We found rat feces in our bed the first night we got there, and when we told them they gave us clean sheets for us to put on the bed...no compensation whatsoever. We actually contemplated leaving the resort that night. Our shower was dirty when we got there too...hairs and rat droppings...and the towels were not washed properly because the first day we used one it had black hair all over it (neither of us has hair that color). To top it all off, there's no phone in your room, so you have to make calls through the front desk. The options are: buy a phone card or use your credit card. We used our credit card, and when we returned we came back to charges exceeding 100 dollars for three calls we made that did not exceed 5 minutes total. IF ONLY the resort had been knowledgeable about the charges when we asked, we would never have gone through with it. The same thing happens with everything in the resort, everyone's clueless and you feel cheated out of your money in the end. If you're going to stay on the cliffs, go to Rockhouse!

The staff is wonderful and helps with guests' every need. The grounds are exotic! This is the best value in Negril. We have been here twice and plan to return.

My husband and I love Xtabi. We were married at Xtabi, right off the cliffs, overlooking the sea. We always stay at Xtabi when we visit Negril.

The staff is very warm and friendly. The rooms are very Jamaican (lovely wood carvings). The cottages sit right off the sea, and at night you can hear the waves push against the rocks (it is extremely romantic). Also, the snorkling is great and the planters punches are delicious.

4.0 stars Xtabi is a meeting place of great people and great fun! Visited: June 2002

We got married at the cliffs overlooking Xtabi at Three Dives. The food and atmosphere were incredible and the staff was out of sight!

Richard, the gardener, was very accommodating and knew how to help us have fun! Go in the offseason and save, save, save! We will be back again - we just bought tickets for this June!

I have stayed at Xtabi every year for 10 years. I have no reason to stay anywhere else. It is my home away from home. The staff is like family. I started bringing my son when he was 2 yrs. old, and he will never stay anywhere else.

Xtabi is the best place in West End Negril. Orethea and the rest of the staff are always friendly - and don't forget the bartenders. I've stayed here at least twice every year since 1997.

5.0 stars Very romantic and enchanting place to stay. Visited: September 2001

My wife and I celebrated our 20th-year wedding anniversary at Xtabi. The food was great and the staff was most accommodating. We stayed in a cottage the first night but moved to a room with air conditioning for the next four nights.

Juilet, Richard, Sarah, Derrick and George (but you can call him Chico) wanted to make sure we had a wonderful time. They catered to every desire including sending us home with the music we'd grown fond of "Ghost." The Rum Punch and Red Stripe were always cold.

We even had our own taxi driver "Johnny B. Good" who also looked out for us while there. We enjoyed exploring the caves at Xtabi and feeding the Tropical Fish below. "The Famous Vincent" took us snorkeling in the Coral Reef in his glass bottom boat. Xtabi is definitely the place to stay in Negril. We hope to return one day. Thank you Xtabi for a 20th year wedding anniversary we won't soon forget.

4.0 stars Rustic, romantic, and the best deal in Negril! Visited: June 2001
Posted by kat175
My husband and I spent our wedding anniversary at Xtabi and we were not disappointed. Although it was rustic looking, the villas were comfortable, modern and romantic. I still dream about the open-air shower covered in flowers. We found Negril relaxed and genuine, not at all the hustle (in many ways) and bustle like Montego Bay. If you like snorkeling or cliff diving, this place is a must!

You will love this hotel if (1) you do not want a ritzy all-inclusive - this place is more of a calgon moment, (2) you want access to a lot of great places on the island, and (3) you want an amazing deal - we still talk about how little it cost!

Be sure to go on Famous Vincent's $20 snorkeling adventure (although you can practically snorkel from your room).

The hotel restaurant was great - but Just Natural across the street was better - it had hummingbirds flying all over the place and the food was unbelievable! Coyaba was also fantastic (you dine on the beach to violin music or a steel-drum band) and they will take you to and from Xtabi for free.

The only negative was the pool (it was not great), but I don't think we cared!
The hotel was very similar to Rockhouse, which costs a little more and is a little more upscale, but we didn't like the food or location as much (although the pool was fantastic there).

5.0 stars Paradise found on the cliffs! Visited: May 2001

We had the most unforgettable time at Xtabi. We cannot say enough about the wonderful staff, the beautiful villa overlooking the sea and the natural caves to explore. In fact, we never even made it to the beach during our one-week stay!

We stayed in villa #1 with the most stunning view of evening sunsets and a great view of the cliffs. The kitchen allowed us to cook our own meals and dine under the stars on our private veranda. The grounds were very well maintained, complete with tropical foliage and several sunning platforms. The food at the restaurant was fresh and delicious and the bar drinks were made to perfection.

The staff will treat you like family and when you leave you’ll wonder how soon you can return. If you are looking for the ultimate cliff-side retreat, you cannot miss the opportunity to stay at Xtabi.

5.0 stars Xtabi is beautiful, relaxing, and has a personable staff. Visited: June 2000
Posted by jennalc8
I absolutely loved Xtabi. A group of 10 of us stayed here for our senior class trip. We went cliff diving and snorkeling all week. The staff was accommodating and really friendly. Richard the gardener was incredibly nice to us and accompanied us out at night. He watched out for our party and was an all around great guide.

We stayed in the garden-side rooms and were pleasantly surprised to get air conditioning and a porch. The closet was big enough for another woman and me. Housekeeping was efficient and kind.

The bartender was excellent and made great papaya and banana daiquiris (with fresh fruit, no mix). If you are to eat at any of the restaurants in the area, come prepared to wait about 2 hours for your meal. Everything was freshly prepared and cooked to order. We had to help the cook flag down a cab to get our chicken one night. Xtabi's restaurant was excellent, but more expensive than the other places. You don't have to wait nearly as long at the hotel.

Xtabi is a wonderful place to stay if you want a vacation that is quiet, relaxing, beautiful, and memorable. It's not, however, a big party place in the off-season.

4.0 stars Absolutely breathtaking Visited: August 1999

We had a wonderful time. It was quiet and cozy. We stayed in one of the rooms, as opposed to the cottages, because the cottages do not come with air conditioning. The staff was very accommodating. The restaurant was located across the road with a patio right on the ocean. The food was good and reasonably priced. Sunrise and sunsets were breathtaking.

If we ever go to Negril again, we will stay at Xtabi Club Resort.

3.0 stars Nice budget hotel, with excellent view, Best deal in Negril Visited: December 1969

You really need to bring your own towels and pillows ... remember to bring mosquito repellent and sun screen! The view is breath-taking and the food is really good. No need to change to Jamaican dollars, almost everything in Negril is priced in US dollars.

Ask for Kingsley if you need a ride to town or a private tour guide. He is good if you are not concerned to find the best deal, he is reliable and honest, but SLIGHTLY over priced, still I would recommend him, if you need a driver.
