5.0 stars Firefly gave us the perfect vacation. Visited: September 2007

We recently returned from an eight-night stay at the Firefly, and it was fabulous.

During our stay, we wanted to renew our wedding vows. I couldn't beleive how much the staff went out of their way to make my special day perfect. The staff here was awesome - the security, housekeeping, and the bartender (Shawn).

This was our first trip to Jamaica, and after lots of research we chose the Firefly from its testimonials for the best romantic vacation. We are so happy we did!

We stayed in unit #18, the penthouse with ocean view. It was perfect. The views from all directions were beautiful. We walked the beach every day.

We though the Firefly was located in a perfect spot. It was just a two-minute walk to Margaritaville or any restaurant or watersport. It was all nice and close by.

We wanted to try snorkeling. The firefly staff recommended Dr. Bill's Glass Bottom Boat for this. We ended up going with him two times because he did such a fantastic job.

If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask the staff. They were very helpful. We did go to Mayfield Falls and Roaring Rivers. Firefly recommended Mr. Jerry (who was a great guy). However, we went with someone else and had a great time, too, but Mr. Jerry does offer a cheaper deal than what we paid.

We did have Mr. Jerry pick us up and bring us back to the airport for $100 (for two people). I thought the fare was a good deal. He also took us sightseeing so I could take a lot of pictures of the island. So if you need someone to pick you up, just let Firefly know, and they will make the arrangements.

Thank you to all the Firefly staff and owners. We had an outstanding time, and will never forget it. We will definitely be back in the future.

We spent five days in Firefly Beach Cottages, and we felt very welcomed here.

The surroundings of this charming hotel were like a beautiful quiet garden with many plants and trees around the cottages and bungalows. That's why we really enjoyed the place.

The beach was nice, and one can have delicious pancakes in the morning.

The owner, Joan, was very nice. She will do all she can to help you achieve what you intend to do.

5.0 stars Firefly offers sun, fun and relaxation. Visited: January 2007

I just got back from Firefly two days ago, and it was one of my best holidays ever! My girlfriend and I stayed in one of the penthouse apartments that overlooks beautiful Negril Beach. The room was very clean, comfortable and air conditioned, and everyone who worked here was friendly and helpful.

Each morning we had breakfast at Firefly's beach bar - they had excellent pancakes! The rest of the day was spent lying on the beach reading, swimming and going for walks. It was just what I needed!

Firefly is the perfect place to go to for a relaxing vacation.

5.0 stars Firefly Beach Cottages was a quaint paradise. Visited: January 2007

My stay at the Firefly Beach Cottages was lovely.

I visited for five nights, including New Years Eve, and stayed in two different cottages. Both were very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

Best of all, there was a limited number of cottages which meant the number of people residing here was relatively small.

The location of Firefly was approximately in the middle of the Seven Mile Beach, giving easy access to either side. Firefly was also conveniently located next to a number of excellent restaurants - you can try a different one every night.

Firefly also had a very nice bar with very friendly staff who made a point of remembering our names. The bar served ice cold drinks and delicious (and filling!) pancakes for breakfast - highly recommended.

The owners were a couple from Kingston and England, and were present during my visit. They were especially nice and attentive.

If you are looking for a quaint, comfortable stay in Negril, Firefly is the place.

We wanted to be in the center of the Seven Mile Beach, and stay at a nice hotel with nice, service-minded people. Here, we had it all, and enjoyed a perfect stay.

There were very nice and helpful people at the hotel. They seemed sincere and caring about their guests.

Also, there was a great beach, and it was close to all the nice restaurants, bars, etc.

We will go back to Firefly soon!

2.0 stars falling short Visited: March 2004

After reading nothing but spectacular reviews of Firefly and the great service and wonderful staff I had my expectations set high as I looked forward to our first visit to this place. The reviews I have read were rather flattering and I am not sure what those writers were use to but this place has more than a few shortcomings . I’ll list the ones that bothered me the most as the rest are not worth mentioning. We stayed in unit #17 on the 3rd floor of the “penthouse” this room has a full kitchen including a microwave and coffee maker The problem was both the microwave and coffee maker were unplugged and the only outlet was buried behind the refrigerator. The bathroom had NO outlets thus my wife had to dry her hair on the balcony. The steps leading up to the place had 8 1/4” risers and that may not seem bad but walking down these steps, barefoot while carrying anything, proved to be rather hazardous. The “hot tub” is a residential type 220V SPA with a bottom that forced “users” to sit exactly they way the designer had in mind. The spa was virtually unused as I saw NO ONE in there during our 3 night stay. I t was nearly always covered with a $2 blue tarp that sagged into the water and looked like a poor man’s hot tub cover. The place also had an excess of debris lying around that would only take a 60 yard dumpster and a few days to clear out of there. The place bills itself as nudist friendly but does not allow one to walk to the beach from your room naked yet you are allowed to use the hot tub nude and that is virtually in the “garden” where nudity is prohibited. The FREE coffee in the AM is INSTANT coffee however the place did serve sandwiches and pancakes in the morning that looked good. The rates are really low. And now I know why. The place is still a good deal given it is right on the beach and if your are expecting a very rustic, bare bones, room then you will get what you are expecting. I cannot speak for the other rooms as I never stayed in anything other than our room #17. The place falls short in my book for lacking attention to some of the most basic details. Talk on the beach was the owners are in dispute with their neighbors and no longer spend much time there It shows. I would be happy to answer any specific ? feel free to e-mail me

My husband, two sons and I spent a relaxing week at Firefly. Our days started with breakfast at the beach bar, then we had hours of fun and sun on the beach.

Our room had a cozy, rustic charm. The staff was extremely accommodating in cleaning the room around the boys' naps.

We looked at some other rooms in the event of a more romantic visit at some other time - without the boys- and have selected a penthouse with a fantastic view. We will definitely be visitng Firefly again.

5.0 stars This is the best place on the beach. Visited: December 2003

My fiance and I simply loved Firefly. The rooms were charming, the garden was beautiful, the staff was very friendly and the beach was spectacular.

Our room was right on the beach, we would step out of the door on to the sand. Every morning we started our day with freshly blended fruit punch at Firefly's beach bar, then we would either relax on the beach or go water skiing, scuba diving, or running along Negril's Seven Mile Beach.

In the evenings we could easily walk to one of the excellent restaurants in Negril. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and can't wait to go back to Firefly.

5.0 stars A friendly place with a great staff. Visited: August 2003

Firefly was a friendly place, where my wife and I learned a great deal about Jamaica. Our stay was pleasant, the staff was very friendly, and the property was well maintained.

Our only complaint was the constant annoyance of drug peddlers and prostitutes. During any one-hour walk, we were approached by 15-20 "farmers", who were willing to sell weed, hash, coke, etc., and at certain sections of the beach there was a constant smell of weed.

During a late night swim, I was also asked to exchange the services of my wife for some hash, and this was from a security guard next door.

Many of the peddlers were excellent to deal with, however. We brought home some work of local artists, and enjoyed learning about Jamaican culture.

Mr. Jerry, who gives tours though Firefly, was very honest and informative. It is definitely a good idea to use him, instead of the numerous tour guides on the beach who are not registered.

My wife and I will definitely be going back to Negril, and will definitely stay at Firefly.

2.0 stars Very small, no privacy and in need of maintenance. Visited: June 2003

We just returned from our first trip to Jamaica, after staying on other islands in the Caribbean. We booked two hotels to get a feel for what was available in Negril. We stayed at another resort first and, during our walks down the beach, had the opportunity to see Firefly. It was immediately obvious that the guests were squeezed onto a very tiny beach, about 30 yards wide, and was not very deep anywhere, which left little room to move around.

We tried to get out of our 4-day reservation. It was only a few days before we were due to arrive and we understood that they were not able to give us a full refund. They were accommodating in letting us out of 2 nights. We had reserved the Cozy Cottage, thinking it would be more private than a room. It was a very tiny room, approximately 8'x10', which included the kitchen, attached to the back of the bar. We switched to the Penthouse, which did have a beautiful view. But this room was also in need of maintenance (rust, peeling paint, groaning plumbing, etc).

On the other side of a chain link fence at the beach is a center for jet ski rental, complete with fumes and noise. I can't recommend this hotel to anyone. It is priced comparably to other hotels along the beach, which in my opinion are much nicer.

5.0 stars A great property in the middle of Seven Mile Beach. Visited: March 2003

Firefly was nude-friendly, and right in the middle of the beach. The price was not bad (even for high season), so we booked it. They were ever so helpful, and there were no problems with moving the dates because of my wife’s surgery.

Firefly was everything we had hoped for and more. We opted for the beachfront penthouse – the view was awesome. The flights of stairs got a little tiresome, but the view was motivational to get up to the room, and the beach was there for the walk down.

The beach bar was great – with great bartenders. Firefly’s beach was narrow, but with so much beach in either direction it really didn’t matter. The sunsets were spectacular each night.

We had nice screens/blinds in our room. As we settled in, we could easily hear the reggae concert from next door. This happened each night, and it was great. There was a different venue up or down the beach had great music for us to listen to as we fell asleep. It was not too loud, nor did it last too late. And when it stopped, we could still hear the waves from the beach.

Firefly Beach Cottages allowed a much more local feel than staying at an all-inclusive.

5.0 stars Unforgettable! Visited: August 2000

Firefly is one of the best-kept secrets in Negril. The sunsets are like nowhere else in the world. In searching for a place for "no problems" you have found it here. Just having a couple of rum punches from the bar will give you a whole other outlook on life and the meaning of true happiness. All anyone has to remember is that there are only two types of time in Jamaica, daytime and nighttime. Enjoy!

5.0 stars Firefly is very romantic, perfect for couples Visited: July 1999

My boyfriend and I spent a wonderful 5 days at Firefly last July. It was the most romantic holiday one could imagine. We watched the beautiful sunset on the beach while we sipped freshly blended fruit punches from the beach bar, then we would lie in the outdoor jacuzzi under the stars.

The one bedroom unit we were in was cozy and comfortable and all the staff were very friendly. We both loved Firefly and will definitely go back, hopefully for our honeymoon.

I wanted my girlfriend and I to have the perfect vacation so I surprised her with a trip to Jamaica. Firefly was perfect. Our room was great, we could watch the sunset from our verandah, and the price was good too. All the staff there made us feel very welcome and there was a variety of things to do in Negril if we wanted to. We both really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to going again someday.

5.0 stars On the beach at Firefly, what a great place to get married! Visited: December 1969
Posted by debbob127
I have been to Firefly several times and loved it more each time. This visit I was bringing my best friend. It was Bob's first time visiting Jamaica. Bob and I got married on the beach at sunset. We said our I do's as guests and staff stood smiling. Firefly is a small intimate resort.

After our wedding we had drinks at the Firefly beach bar. A friend taking pictures for us, caught the bouquet. In one visit to Firefly, you feel as if the staff are family.

The gardens draw more hummingbirds in one day than I've seen in a lifetime in the U.S. The beach is beautiful. Just a short walk down the beach and you may choose where you will have dinner. After dinner you may find a reggae band playing. Sometimes one might choose to buy fish from the fisherman on the beach and cook it yourself.

Firefly makes for a very relaxing vacation. Bob and I will be returning to Firefly for our 3rd anniversary.
