5.0 stars Nirvana is gorgeous! Visited: May 2007

This is a very special and beautiful place to stay. My husband and I enjoyed our honeymoon at Nirvana very much.

The beach was gorgeous. Moses made sure we were not bothered, and we always felt very safe both on the beach and on the grounds.

Lyn watched over us, and made us feel like family. The staff was very attentive and helped to make sure we had the best honeymoon ever!

It is important to know that Hurricane Dean did not hurt Negril or Nirvana, and that both are waiting to welcome you. If you are thinking of going, don't hesitate to experience one of the nicest places in all of Negril.

5.0 stars Experience true nirvana at Nirvana on the Beach! Visited: May 2007
Posted by iriecharleston
This was our first visit to Nirvana on the Beach, and we've decided it's the only place we'll stay in Negril from now on.

We were looking for a "non-hotel" type atmosphere, and Nirvana provided exactly that. They had lovely, clean cottages surrounded by lush tropical trees, plants, gardens, admist a bird sanctuary. It was also on the best beach in Negril.

There were only nine cottages, and each one was unique and designed for maximum privacy. However, they all provided fantastic views of the grounds and the ocean.

We stayed in the Sun Deck Suite overlooking the ocean. It was perfect - very clean, private, quiet, with a large king-size bedroom, master bath, kitchen, walk-in closet with a security lock box for valuables.

In addition, it had A/C - but we never needed it! There were ceiling fans in every room with plenty of cross breezes. It was a real treat to hear the "quiet".

The front door opened up to a beautiful, tiled patio and large private sun deck. We enjoyed waking up to the sounds of the birds, having coffee on the sundeck, going for a swim in the ocean, and walking right next door to have breakfast at an outdoor covered beachfront restaurant.

Without a doubt, Nirvana had the best beach in Negril - two acres of beautiful, clean, wide stretch of white soft sand, and the groundskeeper raked the beach every morning.

Guests can charter a snorkeling cruise on a glass bottom boat that leaves right from the beach. The security guard even sets up your lounge chairs for you. We especially appreciated the outdoor shower to hose off the sand coming in from the beach.

The staff was absolutely top notch! Breezy, our driver, picked us up at the airport and he was very friendly, thorough and professional. He gave us a little tour of the neighboring towns enroute to the hotel.

Sigi, the manager, and Sidney and Moses, our security guards were positively wonderful. They made us feel very welcomed and completely safe and secure.

Nirvana was completely fenced in, and Sidney did an outstanding job in keeping the hawkers away. Lynne (our housekeeper) and Rocky (the gardener) were also very warm, friendly and helpful.
All of the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

Nirvana was right in the middle of Seven Mile Beach,so we were minutes away from everything. One of the best restaurants in Negril was just a very short walk down the beach (Kuyaba).

Lonnie, the owner, handled our reservations beautifully - and true to her word, at Nirvana, "all you have to do is ask!" You really do feel like family at Nirvana, and we can't wait to come back!

My fiance and I spent the most incredible vacation at Nirvana on the Beach.

The beach was gorgeous, the employees were so kind and helpful, and the room was incredible! We shall make this voyage annually from now on. What a peaceful, romantic haven!

5.0 stars This is the best place on the beach! Visited: March 2007

My boyfriend, his 15-year-old son and I stayed at Nirvana for ten wonderful days in March. I have been staying at Nirvana for the past ten years, but it was their first time in Jamaica. They loved it!

What a perfect place to be with a teenager. The girls took such great care of us. Ziggy, the manager, was great. The two Moses's were the best, and security was perfect.

The grounds were perfect, and the cottages were very comfortable. Also, all we had to do was ask if we needed anything.

We will all be going back again next year - and the year after that.

Our view from the Sun Deck Suite was wonderful. The staff was friendly and unobtrusive. The grounds were excellent and very tropical.

Moses took good care of us, and it was nice to have the security folks keep some of the vendors at bay while we were on the beach in front of the fence.

5.0 stars You have freedom on the beach with security watching your back! Visited: February 2007
Posted by cpinaud
We absolutely loved our trip to Nirvana, and could brag all day about the 24-hour security!

I wish I had captured a picture of Moses one time as it was so cute. We were all sitting on our 'usual' lounge chairs in the 'usual' place on the beach, when a 'music' hustler came up to us to sell some local music.

Moses was up from his trusty chair in seconds flat on his way over to chase the man away. Then he saw that Jeff, one of our party, was interested in buying some music from this guy. That's when Moses stepped back ever-so-casually behind one of the palm trees and hid himself very subtly behind a palm frond or two. If you hadn't seen him do it you would never have known he was there!

It was the cutest thing I have ever seen! He waited behind that palm frond keeping his watchful eye on Jeff and the second Jeff said he was done...BAM...out appears Moses to escort the man away!

When I read and heard about the 24-hour security, I was a bit apprehensive as I didn't want to be watched and limited in my good time. I had no idea just what that security entailed. It was the absolute best of both worlds: freedom to do what we wanted while Moses and Shine 'watched our backs', literally.

I even found out that Shine knew every one of our names and asked after us if he hadn't seen us in a bit. How impressive!

Sigi and the girls were all on it with taking care of our cottage always at the most opportune times and cooking us some excellent native meals!

There is no doubt that whenever we come to Jamaica and stay on the beach, we will always stay at Nirvana.

5.0 stars We would go back in a heartbeat. Visited: January 2007
Posted by gordyschlosser
In January, Kim and I had a beach wedding at Nirvana on the Beach. Right from the time I inquired about availability, we were made to feel like family.

Lonnie (the owner) got us in touch with Weddings by Isabelle, and from then on it was almost entirely taken out of our hands.

The setting for Nirvana was very laid back. We were the only guests here for the first time. All others were repeat clients. The rooms were clean, and stayed that way throughout our stay.

We had elderly people in our wedding, and the closeness to the beach, and availability of cottages without steps was fantastic. And by the end of our eight-day stay, we truly felt like part of the Nirvana family.

Would we go back? In a heartbeat. It was absolutely the most relaxing eight days we have spent in sometime.

4.0 stars I was very skeptical.........until I arrived! Visited: January 2007
Posted by beachturf
My wife and I just returned from Nirvana in Negril. This was our first time to not stay at a five-star all-inclusive resort. We were hesitant, to say the least, but booked with the owners, Stanley and Lonnie, based on the reviews.

Nirvana’s driver picked us up at the airport and gave us an informative ride along the coast to Negril. We used Nirvana’s drivers a lot to travel around Negril, and they were always first class.

When we arrived, we were met by the G.M., Ziggy. We asked many questions of her throughout our trip, and she was always more than glad to offer her help. They lead us through the gardens, and our first impressions were how beautiful this place was - all the exotic plants and flowers under big trees with clean white sand to walk on. Hammocks and cozy little nooks to relax and read, or just watch nature, were scattered around the property.

Then we arrived at our ‘Upper Veranda’ suite. It was large and roomy with a screened in porch which looked out over the gardens and the beach. It had his and hers sinks with large indoor and outdoor showers. There was also plenty of storage space for the clothing we packed.

The kitchen was small, but just right for what we needed. There was a large king sized poster bed covered with netting, very romantic. We enjoyed eating breakfast every morning on the porch listening to the waves roll in.

This property was so unlike any resort we have ever been to, in a good way. There was no restaurant or bar, so the evenings were very quiet and peaceful. There was no loud music or people hooping and hollering at a bar. If you wanted that, it was just a short walk down the beach in either direction.

We enjoyed walking the beach in both directions and finding neat little places to eat. We ate a variety of Jamaican dishes and enjoyed them all.

Nirvana was located about in the middle of Seven Mile Beach. After walking both directions, we concluded the Nirvana had the widest, deepest and cleanest beach by far. Lots of places had very narrow strips of sand with lots of people crowded into a small area. Nirvana’s beach was cleaned every morning, and had lots of shade and plenty of room for everyone at the resort.

In addition, the beach security was great. If any vendors lingered to long, Bonnie would move them along. We always left our belongings on our beach chair because Bonnie said he would watch them until we returned from our walk or lunch. He never failed to be there like he said. Nirvana guests had horseshoes, kayaks and water floats available to use anytime.

5.0 stars Coming to Nirvana is coming home! Visited: January 2007

We stayed at Nirvana for 11 nights with friends in January 2007. Once again, it was the best experience we could imagine.

The grounds were beautiful and well maintained-kept up daily by Moses and Moses.

The cabins were comfortable and clean - kept this way by our wonderful maids Lynne, Leonie and Joyce. The girls even cooked us a wonderful Jamaican dinner two of the nights we were here - both meals were wonderful!

The new manager, Ziggy, was very friendly and helpful - all we needed to do was ask and it was provided.

My husband and I stayed down the beach for our last three days, as the cabin was only open for 11 days - we will not be doing that again. There is no place in Negril that feels as much like home as Nirvana!

1.0 stars Absolutely never again will I stay at Nirvana on the Beach. Visited: December 2006

This was an absolutely terrible experience! After spending ten days at Nirvana over the New Year period of 2006, we must strongly advise against staying at this overpriced resort.

Living in the chalets at Nirvana had a feeling a bit like living in a POW camp. The standard of the interior decoration, furniture and lighting was extremely low. Also, there was not a single matching piece of linen on the beds. The kitchen equipement consisted of a variety of implements that have probably been bought at a trailer park car boot sale. Not one single plate, cup nor glass (if you get any) matches any other piece.

The beach was, on the other hand, wonderful; and the staff was friendly. However, the total experience was one of over-priced and dissatisfaction.

Over the years I have spent a lot of time in Jamaica, but Nirvana provided the most comfortable, clean, and safe accommodations I have stayed at.

The staff went out of their way to make my stay special.

By the way, the grounds were particularly beautiful with lush plantings everywhere.

What a great place to get away from the hectic grind of daily life. This was the best place I could have taken my teenage son. He and I got away from life and just escaped into the wonderful world of Nirvana.

5.0 stars Nirvana is a special place. Visited: July 2006

I have been staying at Nirvana for more than ten years now. Nirvana is a special place. It's a place where you can have all the privacy you want or need. It's a place where whatever you want or need, you really do only have to ask.

It's not a place where you'll see too many tourists hanging about. If you do want to go out, you're in the middle of everything.

The cottages are clean, comfortable and nice. It's like being home, only with the surrounding beauty of the grounds and only a minute from the sea.

I've been there alone and have felt perfectly safe. The staff is amazing, more like family to me now.

There are many places to stay in Negril. It all depends on what you want. If you need peace and quiet; a private beach a few steps away; a staff that will cook for you; a staff that will get you whatever you need and help you with any questions or problems you may have, stay at Nirvana.

Oh, and ask for Leon or Breezy as your cab drivers!

5.0 stars It was way beyond our expectations. Visited: June 2006

We stayed a Nirvana for two weeks last month. The entire property was top-notch, clean and impeccably well kept. For an non-resort, beach cottage sort of feeling, this is the place to stay while still getting pampered a bit.

Nirvana is known for their beautiful gardens. We were not disappointed. I checked out quite a few properties
on the beach, and did not see gardens that looked like Nirvana's.
It seemed like a true paradise.

What I really enjoyed was that the entire grounds were made of white sand, so it was easy on tender feet. There were days I didn't ever put on my shoes.

I also loved the thatched gazebo in the center of the gardens.
The gazebo also came with swinging sky chairs and benches. It was a great conversation area. We also loved the hammocks and large wooden sculptures throughout the garden.

The entire property was fenced in, which was great for children while offering privacy for guests.

We spent many happy hours hiding and seeking amongst the garden greenery. The beachfront was pretty with lots of palm trees for shade.

Bonnie, our day security, made sure all the lounge chairs were out first thing in the morning for us.

The cottages are set quite far back on the property, so if you want quiet from the hustle and bustle of the beach and night concerts, it is a lovely retreat. The cottage was spacious and airy. Every room had a big ceiling fan in it to keep the rooms cool. We were never, ever hot.

I also loved the full kitchen. It was quite an advantage not to be at the mercy of restaurants and food vendors for every meal.

In addition, cook service for one meal a day was included in the price of the room if you buy your own groceries.

We loved the staff. As soon as we arrived, the manager met us at the gate and oriented us right away. I loved the peace and quiet. It was a wonderful haven to come home to and the staff really made it feel just like home.

If you are looking for a noisy, raucous party place, Nirvana is not for you.

My family, friends and I have been frequent visitors to Nirvana for over seven years. We have always had a great experience. We continue to return because of the location, attentive and friendly staff, security, and casual comfort.

Those desiring "boutique chic" should stay elsewhere; but for independent travelers who seek beautiful grounds, great beach and proximity to services in a very laid-back atmosphere, this place is ideal!

We recently spent seven lovely days at Nirvana, on the beachfront of the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The cabins were rustic, but very clean, and provided a perfect, private setting for a tropics experience. We loved listening the the "gleeper frogs" at night, unhindered by the drone of air conditioning.

The staff at Nirvana was efficent and so courteous. They saw to all our needs and made us very comfortable. They even cooked us an authentic Jamaican meal!

We enjoyed that the property was not remote, just a quick walk or cab ride away from shopping and the downtown district.

We recommend Nirvana for anyone seeking a relaxing beachfront vacation.

5.0 stars Nirvana: the name says it all! Visited: February 2006

One definition of nirvana is "an ideal condition of stability, rest, harmony or joy". This describes our experience of being at Nirvana on the Beach.

We just returned from our third stay here. It would be difficult to imagine staying anywhere else while in Jamaica. It is like coming home or visiting with old friends when we arrive back at Nirvana.

Also, it is so nice to see the same great staff year after year. The housekeeping staff does a marvelous job at keeping the units clean. It is obvious that they take pride in their work.

The landscaping is beautiful and lush, providing just enough privacy and openess --- thanks to the constant attention of two hardworking gardners. In addition, you will find throughout the premises various creative outdoor decor which enhances the landscape even more.

Twenty-four/seven security is another big plus. Bonnie keeps the unwanted hawkers at bay and an eagle eye on your possessions when on the beach, while Sunshine watches over things in the evening, making us feel safe.

The drivers with whom I have had contact do a fine job as well (Breezy and Audley) and make it easy to get around or change money, etc.

Of course, it takes good management to keep everyone happily doing their jobs well. Manager Joan seems to be doing just that. The Gottliebs, owners of Nirvana, also need to be commended for hiring good people and keeping them on a long term basis.

Finally, in addition to all of the above, Nirvana is special because of its location. They have the best and most spacious beach section along the Seven Mile Beach in our opinion.

The only caution I would suggest is to plan your time there so that you will not be there during Spring Break--but that would be true of most of the other hotels as well. The beach takes on a different personality during this time, and if this is what you are looking for, great. But if you are in search of tranquilty and quiet nights for sleeping, plan your dates accordingly.

Some of the entertainment establishments pump up the volume in attempts to attract young people and they can go on well into the wee hours. For many people, this would not be a problem or a negative, so those readers can ignore this caution.

5.0 stars This was truly "Nirvana"! Visited: January 2006

This was our second trip to Nirvana on the Beach, Negril. I would go back in a heartbeat - it is a truly spectacular accommodation. Our first time there, we were there as a couple with no children. On this trip, we had our 15-month-old daughter along. This place cannot be beat for children!

The cottages are perfect: the kitchen allows you to cook your own meals and save a little money. The layout is comfortable, with plenty of space for playing in, and the fans and screening provide plenty of cool air and relaxing atmosphere (nothing beats listening to the ocean while in bed).

The staff is wonderful; very considerate and helpful. All you have to do is ask, and they can bring anything you need to your doorstep - fresh fruit, fish, lobster - babysitting! They are the nicest hosts and they cook great meals that I highly recommend.

Even transportation is a breeze - a very safe and responsible driver picked us up with a carseat whenever we needed.

As for a 15-month-old - it was a paradise. The gardens and the beachfront provide lots of shade. There is a perfect play area with a swing set and play cabin full of "donated" toys.

The beach is the best I've ever been to, and the reason we keep going back. The depth is perfect for children, shallow with a very gradual depth increase, and gentle waves. There is no seaweed or rough shells/rocks to harm little feet (or mine!). There are lots of friendly folks to say hi to as they walk by. My daughter tries to get back to the "bubbles" through our videos, but it can't match being there!

This is the best place to go in Negril that we've been to, and we've been to Negril five times. We will go back to Nirvana as soon as we can!

5.0 stars What a fantastic place! Visited: December 2005

Nirvana on the Beach is just that – Nirvana. My husband and I enjoyed eight days of absolute bliss at this most special, rather small, and very quiet resort.

Although we planned to arrive on a Friday, the threat of a serious snowstorm called for a quick change of plans so that we wouldn’t be spending our vacation time in the airport. We contacted the management of Nirvana, who advised us to come a day early to avoid the perils of snow and ice and promised to find room for us somewhere on the grounds since the apartment we had reserved would not yet be vacated. This was just the beginning of the personal interest in having all the guests feel most welcome.

The management arranged for us to be picked up at the airport, and the driver was kind enough to stop at the local supermarket so that we could pick up groceries. Apparently, this is routine procedure.

Our guest quarters were comfortable and spacious. The screened porch had not only a table and chairs where we had our meals, but also two very comfortable lounge chairs and additional lighting. There were also two comfortable chairs inside where my husband and I were both able to put our feet up and relax.

The small kitchen was ideal for our needs, and the arrangement of having shelves in the dressing area was extremely convenient. Two bathroom sinks simplified our getting ready for dinner, and the many open shelves in both the sink areas were just perfect for storing our stuff.

While we didn’t see any grocery stores where we could get the staples we were accustomed to having, we enjoyed the most wonderful lunches every day. Yes, there were a number of people selling fruit on the beach, but we had our favorite fruit lady and bought pineapples, bananas and mangos from her.

Other guests told us about a fellow named Norman who sells incredible vegetable patties. Watch for a man in a white shirt pushing a bicycle with a box attached. That will be Norman. It’s our understanding that his brother owns a bakery, and Norman makes these patties in the bakery each morning. Yes, I believe he also has beef patties.

We enjoyed our dinners either in one of the many good restaurants on the beach or at the good eating establishments in town, which is a taxi-ride away.

My husband and I look forward to our return visit next winter. We couldn’t imagine a more ideal place. It was immaculate, and as comfortable as home. They had lovely views of the sea or the gardens, and the property was cared for by friendly staff members who ensure their guests’ satisfaction.
