Overall, I had a great experience! Visited: July 2006
Posted by maeghanmajor
We just returned from the Couples Resort in Negril. We went on our honeymoon for four nights. Our first impression was that the resort was in need of some renovation, but after a night we could not find anything to change.

The rooms were nice and clean, and they were about the same size as an average hotel room. The beach was great. Every lounge chair had its own mat that you could take out and float on.

The food was out of this world. The lobster was better than anything I have ever had in the states (and I love lobster).

The best part about the whole place was how nice and helpful the resort staff was. They really interacted with the guests and gave a great personal touch to the whole experience. All the planned activities were fun. The night dive was amazing, too.

Overall, this was great place. I would highly recommend Couples Negril to all of my friends.

Couples Negril is a great place to fall in love again. Visited: July 2005

It did not take us long to see that this was a resort that was in a class by itself, and among all-inclusives, it was outstanding.

And there is no way you can say enough about Karen, the manager, who mingled with and greeted her guests when she was in the lobby.

The food at Couples Negril was outstanding overall. And particularly, we noted the food was superior to other all-inclusive resorts we have been to. The meat and potatoes, burger and fries, eggs with ham, sausage or bacon, or everything omelets, we found choices in abundance.

But at the same time, the vegetarian or health-conscious eater who may be looking to lower cholesterol can have omelets made with whites only. And every al a carte menu had a hot vegetable plate - as well as fish and other selections to complement the varieties of meat and potato items available.

Lunch fare such as simple hot dogs and burgers, sections of pizza, and nachos and melted cheese, etc. was available at the beach grille. This restaurant turned into an Italian restaurant for supper with a la carte service and a self service antipasta bar.

Last, but far from least, was the formal restaurant, Otaheite, which should not be missed. They had a set menu with daily add-on choices.

The beach was nice, and we had no problem getting chaises. And the cocktail waitresses were constantly going around taking orders for drinks. There were various activities, but everything was low key and never any pressured guests if they chose not to participate.

Various trips were included in the all-inclusive price. One was a shopping trip with three stops. They also walked guests across the road to a nearby native craft market. For party time, there was a bus to Margaritaville. This was a blast, we met people from other nearby resorts, and the staff put on a great participation show.

To clarify, there was a hurricane warning while we were here. A notice was posted immediately that anyone who chose to leave would receive a full refund for unused time - or a voucher for equivalent lost time good for one year. We stayed, and the hurricane stayed to the south of Jamaica. It rained hard for one day starting that afternoon, but we used the umbrella they provided in every room and got around to our meals. The next morning was bright sunshine.

The rooms we found to be adequate. We had no problems with water pressure, and we had showers at various times without any problem. The yellow spread we found was not really too bright, and we felt it actually brought a little color into the room.

I can’t end this without saying how wonderful, sincere and responsive the staff was at all times. They provided whatever we asked of them.

It was absolutely wonderful - a top-of-the-line resort! Visited: November 2004

We went to Couples for our honeymoon, and it was just perfect. The service was excellent, the scenery was lush and gorgeous, the staff was warm and friendly, and the food was exceptional.

I definitely recommend the spa, and cruises, snorkeling. They had pretty suites that were so clean and comfortable, with a patio and hammock for us too. We had amazing sunset views, too. We also loved the Catamaran cruises!

We are returning next year and can't wait!

It was truly paradise! Visited: May 2004

Couples-Negril was paradise on earth. My husband and I spent two weeks at Couples and I have just booked another ten days here in November.

Whave been to many islands and resorts in the Caribbean and this will be the first time in years that we are returning to the same place.

The staff was warm, friendly and made us feel like family. Especially Wayne at the front desk, who went out of his way to make my husband's birthday special. Marlin and Cerrie, bartenders at the Grill Bar were funny, entertaining and so freindly.

The hosts at the Pasta grill were fabulous, and the waiters - especially Anthony - served us like we were royalty. The food at all the restaurants was out of this world and plentiful. All the drinks were great, too. They served all top shelf liqour and no watering down on anything.

The rooms were also great. They were vry clean and comfortable. The housekeeping staff was extremely accommodating to our every need.

The beach was the best part of Couples. It was the most beautiful I have ever seen. It was big, roomy and clean. The water was crystal clear and calm. We saw purple star fish and baby sting rays.

This resort truly had everything we could ask for in Paradise. You won't be disappointed and will want to go back again and again. I promise you!

This was an excellent resort...we would recommend it to anyone. Visited: May 2004

We just got back from Couples Negril and we wanted to post our thoughts since the reviews on this site played a large role in our resort selection.

My wife and I spent nine days at the resort - no special occasion, just a long overdue break from the grind. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone. Below I tried to capture some general notes about the trip. I hope you find them helpful.

-The resort was on Bloody Bay, just north of Seven Mile Beach. This bay was beautiful, calm, and shallow. I would recommend it over Seven Mile Beach.

-The water activities were a hoot. Hobie cat sailing, snorkel trips (about 1/8 mile off of Seven Mile Beach), kayaking, and skiing were particularly fun.

-The town shopping trip was okay (kind of sad really - seeing how poor everyone seemed to be), but you could get the same merchandise that was in the resort much cheaper there. Don't be afraid to haggle. I got most things 33%-50% off of their original prices.

-The resort had a lot of land activities as well (bingo, ping pong tourneys, volleyball, etc). There was something going on every couple of hours every single day.

-I would highly recommend the catamaran cruise (booze cruise). A large vessel took about 30 people from Bloody Bay to Pirates Cave. Along the way we listened to a live musician or reggae tunes on the stereo while enjoying free rum punch or Red Stripe Beer.

Pirates Cave was a beautiful area that butted up to caves in the cliffs on the south end of Seven Mile Beach. The water was about 20' deep, and crystal clear.

There was a ladder to the restaurant and bar at the top of the cliff. You could cliff jump ~30 ft to the water below for $2. Otherwise you could swim in the water below. After a short time, we sailed back and returned just at sunset. Make sure to sign up a couple days in advance (at the water sports center). These tended to fill up fast. We went twice.

-Don't believe the weatherman. I checked the ten day forecast on the internet the day before we left, and it stated there was a high chance of thunderstorms or showers every day. In reality, we had a couple hours worth of rain the entire trip and it was only overcast a couple of days.

-We had a garden room view. The room size was plenty large. The remote controlled A/C was handy.

-The food varied from good to great. I thought the buffets had great variety. After nine days we were still not bored with the different choices. I would highly recommend getting reservations at the O'Tehite restaurant. It usually takes a few days to get in, but it is worth it. It had the best food at the resort.

-The staff was top notch. Friendly, helpful, and courteous.

Couples is a lively and unique resort. Visited: February 2004
Posted by dpjacobs
Couples Negril was a great place to escape the real world and have a good time.

The hotel's decor was fun and unique. The tile-floor guest rooms were comfortable and had nice touches like candles, a CD player, and a spacious balcony.

The food was surprisingly good for an all-inclusive resort, especially at Otaheite. The beach and the loads of free activities were wonderful. The couples massage was worth every penny, too.

If you are expecting total peace and quiet or decadent luxury, you may be mildly disappointed with Couples Negril. If you are looking for a lively (but not loud) resort with ample comforts in a great setting, you will feel like you got more than your money's worth.

We enjoyed it a lot and can't wait to go back! Visited: December 2003

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Couples and found it to be most exciting. Every day we participated in many of the scheduled activities. We went snorkeling, scuba diving, paddle-boat sailing, kayaking, etc. We also participated in a Couples game show, a fashion show, a dance contest, a catamaran cruise and enjoyed lots of nice music from featured guests. The entertainment staff did a wonderful job in keeping everyone entertained with many activities. Kudos to Tonya and Robert.

By our last full day, we decided to relax and view the beautiful waters while sipping on some specialty drinks.

We had so much fun and it wouldn't have been possible without the help of the staff. The staff was excellent, including but certainly not limited to, the water sports club guys, the bartenders, the cooks, the waiters/waitresses, and of course, the entertainment staff.

I'll try to keep this short. The rooms were clean and well decorated. Maid service was great. The beach clean and safe. Also, there were plenty of chairs, hammocks and shade. The bars and beach drink service were both excellent.

The staff throughout the resort went out of their way to help. It was a level of service that I rarely see anywhere else. The gym was excellent, the pool was great for floating or cooling off. It was shallow and a little crowded for serious swimming, but the ocean was available for that.

Horshoes and volleyball were popular. Hot tubs were great, too. In addition, the food was excellent. To go a week and not find anything that I didn't like was a miracle - I am a picky eater. I had no upset stomach like you sometimes get in some other countries (Dominican).

There were great activities to keep you busy or a quiet place to relax - you choose. The catamarran trip was great, so was the snorkeling and shopping trip. I will definitely return to this resort and would highly recommend it to friends.

We just returned after renewing our wedding vows (27 years). The staff was great and the resort was wonderful. We had a great time. We met so many nice people and were treated extremely well by the staff. The surroundings were beautiful. It was just the place to go to for a nice, romantic, relaxing and fun-filled vacation. We can't wait to return. It truly felt like Paradise!

We wanted to stay in Couples forever. Visited: July 2003
Posted by rtseng_66
We went to Couples Negril for our honeymoon. It was the first time we took an all-inclusive vacation to the Caribbean, and it was the best honeymoon we could have ever had. On the second day we were here, I already said: "I want to stay here forever". It was truly our dream resort.

Everything was excellent at Couples. The people here were enchanting, the service was much better than we expected, and the beach was fabulous with all those palm trees and greens. The beach was facing west so we could watch sunset every day if there was no thunderstorm. The sea was so clear that we could even swim with fish!

The food was totally outstanding. I loved the Beach Grill most because it had the best grilled chicken I've ever tasted! It turned into a steakhouse at dinner and the menu changed every day.

The fine dining restaurant had amazing presentation of food. I had loster tail on Friday night. It was the best lobster I've ever had. Usually I don't like buffet meals that much, but the buffet in Cassava Terrace was extraodinary and I could eat different stuff at every lunch.

Most of the time we were just lying in the hammock or swimming in the ocean. The scenery was so beautiful, we didn't want to go anywhere else. We also took a sunset cruise, a market trip by boat, a glass-bottom boat ride, a snorkeling class and a couple's massage class. All of the activities were professional and well-managed.

We had thunderstorm when we took the sunset cruise, but we still had fun because the entertainment staff on the cruise was so funny! I got stung by jellyfish when we were snorkeling, but it was still a nice experience. We got a free half-hour massage because of the honeymoon package. My husband loved it!

The shopping trip was safe and organized. You just need to watch out when the bus is leaving! Downtown Negril was not like any cities we have seen in North America. Some people might be shocked when they see the living conditions here. As tourists, we enjoyed our time here.

The night entertainment was something we'd never want to miss. They did a pretty good job to cheer us up! My husband never danced, but he danced with me in the showtime.

We've already planned our next trip to Couples again. It was good that we read the review before we went, so we knew that we had to sign on everything we wanted to do on the first day.

Still, seven nights were too short for us, so we will definitely come back! It was a perfect resort for couples. Don't go as a single person, because you will want to fall in love once you stay here. I don't know why some people had a bad impression of Couples. They should really give Couples another shot when they have the right mood for a vacation.

This was our third anniversary trip, and again, we chose Couples Negril. We left Lexington, NC in pouring rain and arrived to nothing but blue skies a gentle breeze and sun, sun, sun.

The service at Couples was excellent, the food was out of this world, and most of the people were heartwarming. We have made so many friends. We felt so welcome, we never wanted to leave.

The beach was extraordinary. There was always something to do, and you could do as much or as little as you wanted. Remember, when at Couples, "it's all about you".

We plan to return in June and renew our vows of 27 years. We will always return to Couples Negril. We love the island, the people and all Jamaica has to offer.

We travelled to Couples Negril to get married and honeymoon for ten days. We can't say enough good things about this resort!

The beach was beautiful - the water was warm, clear, and calm. The staff was fantastic - so friendly and helpful. The resort was everything we hoped for and more. There was as much or as little to do as we wanted, and with all the food and drink we would never go hungry or thirsty.

The catamaran cruise is not to be missed! As I said, we were married here, and it was everything we hoped that it would be. It was absolutely beautiful, and something we will never forget! We will be back for our one-year anniversary!

This was our first visit to Jamaica. We decided to do the Couples Double Take program. We spent half of our week in Ocho Rios and half in Negril. The service was great at both hotels! We did not have one problem. The staff was friendly and willing to help us out with anything!

Negril was much more contemporary in style than in Ocho Rios. The beach was much larger - as well as the pool. You could only walk on the beach in front of the resort at night, but guests had access to the Seven Mile Beach during the day.

The swim-up bar was in a great location and easy to get to. The piano bar could be fun at night for the sing-a-long. They even had games that the guests could participate in (i.e. 'The Newly Weds show').

We had friends renew their vows here on the beach. It was completely headache-free. All they had to worry about was choosing the flowers/color and what flavor cake. Everything was handled for them.

Rohan (entertainment staff) was absolutely hiliarious. And the beach party was definitely worth seeing. There were some really funny activities (with guests) that they did during the show that made us laugh so hard! There were also fire walkers and other entertainment.

Rick's Cafe and the catamaran cruise, which took guests to the Pickled Parrot, were really great. People could jump off of the cliffs at both places.

These resorts had a mix of all ages - some 20s, but mostly 30s, 40s and some above. It was great to be here with friends. It made the time here so much fun.

The one downside to doing the Double Take was that we didn't get time to do everything (tours) we wanted to do.

We will be going back!

Couples Negril was everything we imagined it to be. The place was amazing from the way the grounds were kept to the service. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly.

We did all of the watersports that were offered and even got certified in scuba diving. If you're seriously interested in learning and getting certified, this is the place to go. Our scuba instructor, Rodrick, was the best! He took time out to really teach us and made it so much more interesting.

We couldn't have asked for more in an all-inclusive. From watersports to tours- they offered it as a part of the package. Also, there was no pressure to do things, and the atmosphere was definitely romantic.

We will definitely be staying here again in the future! We absolutely loved Couples. If you stay Negril, this is where you should be.

What a fabulous place! Visited: January 2003

My husband and I spent nine wonderful days at Couples Negril in January. We wish we could have stayed longer.

The food, service and accommodations were all top notch. I'm in the hospitality business, so I tend to be quite picky-but I could not find a thing to complain about. We live in New York and dine out in Manhattan quite often, and I would compare the Otheite restarant to any fine dining in the city.

We met wonderful people from every age group (we are in our early 30s) who were there for the same reasons we were - to escape from the real world and relax. We couldn't have chosen a better place.

We hope to return next year. I would recommend this resort to anyone!

My husband and I loved Couples Negril. The food was great, the staff was extremely friendly and we enjoyed all the activities that Couples offered.

It was a very relaxing time. We stayed four nights and would have loved to stay longer.

We got bumped off our flight to come home and was put up for the night at an all-inclusive resort in Montego Bay, and it was nothing compared to Couples Negril. We were spoiled.

We are looking forward to going back.

Couples Negril exceeded our expectations! Visited: October 2002
Posted by wms
My wife and I just returned from a week at Couples Negril. We had a wonderful stay and will go back as often as possible. The food and service were better than the other 6 resorts we have visted in Jamaica.

There were couples of all ages here, and this resort was not as noisy as a Sandals. The staff was very friendly, and the bar service was quicker than other all inclusives we have visited. The beach and pool areas were well maintained and we did not feel
crowded at either place. There were never any loud activities that interfered with our relaxation.

There were three restaurants with a good selection at each. I would definitely recommend this above average, all-inclusive resort. Gary Stephens, the GM, and his staff are doing a
great job and we will return again next year.

We didn't want to leave! Visited: June 2002

This resort was beautiful.

We stayed in a Deluxe Gardenview room (5303-awesome view of water, too!). Our view was incredible. Our building was closest to the water of the five buildings on our side. It was right at the watersports shack. Straight ahead and slightly left, we looked out over the spa/ponds/gardens. Slightly right, we had a clear shot of the Caribbean and the beautiful sunsets.

We journeyed over to the other side of the resort where the wedding gazebo was and, while it was pretty, it was not nearly as lush as our side. We were extremely satisified with our view. (Thanks to Wayne at the front desk!)

My husband and I were here to celebrate our 20th anniversary, so we were not looking for a wild party. This was the perfect resort for dining in peace and enjoying the swings after dinner. The food was very good, with plenty of choices for all tastes. We had no complaints about the service.

The pool was nice, but we opted for the beach most days. There was plenty of shade and sun. The water was crystal clear and calm (except for occasional ripples caused by passing jet skis or ski boats).

We never took advantage of the red flag service. It was easier to walk 15 or 20 steps and order from the pool bar. Try a Hummingbird. They were delicious! If you like pina colodas or daquiris, we noticed they poured them from a machine during the day, but at night, they actually made them like the other frozen drinks. They were much better during the nighttime hours.

If you are interested in the sunset cruise, sign up as soon as you can get to the watersports shack. Those booked up really fast. They also didn't do them everyday. My major complaint would be the little ant things that seemed to love our bathroom. They made the place seem dirty when really it wasn't.

The room was exactly like the pictures on this site and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was quite small and the water pressure in the shower wasn't great. My husband is tall and he had to bend over to rinse his hair. I came home with quite a few insect bites. I guess the "noseeums" got me early in the morning and late at night when I was sitting on the balcony.

We arrived in Montego Bay at 1:00 in the afternoon and had booked an Air Jamaica Express flight (through our travel agent) for 2:00 to take us to Negril. It was slightly nerve-racking, but quick nonetheless. We were at the resort at 2:20. We did opt to take the van back to the airport and the ride took only 1 hour and 20 minutes and it wasn't as bad as some say. We'd go back tomorrow if we could afford to.

I married in paradise! Visited: May 2002
Posted by diva691
I had always wanted to get married in an exotic location. I highly recommend this resort. It was first-class all the way.

The staff was friendly, and the food was fabulous. The ocean and beach here was superior to the Seven Mile Beach of Negril. The area where Couples Negril was located was in Bloody Bay, with a much wider beach area than the other beaches.

Our room was very lovely. There were many nice special touches every day, like fresh red ginger flowers in our room. Don't pay extra for an ocean view or ocean front room. There was not really such a thing. Only if you upgrade to a suite would it be worth your while.

Be prepared for lots of skin exposure. Nudity is a freely open sport in Negril.

I got married barefoot on the beach and had no stress at all. The staff took great care to attend to every detail. Our pictures were amazing. The resort used a company called "Colors Negril" for photography and videography. The quality was okay, and they were not over priced at all.

The Jamaican people were so hospitable. We went during the very hot and rainy season, but it really only rained for minutes at the time. Bring mosquito repellent. They were really bad in the evenings.

There were always fun things planned on the resort and the snorkling was amazing. Make sure you take the katamaran cruise at sunset. It was way too much fun and rum punch. There were no hidden costs and even extras that you could purchase at the shops on the resort were reasonable.

I loved Couples Negril and so did my husband. We are definitely coming back.
