3.0 stars Good resort, shame about the staff. Visited: July 2002
Posted by hkhookfamily
For a family with young children (ours are six- and nine-years old), it is a pleasant resort, which is not too noisy in the early hours.

There is plenty to do, with the Lazy River and Sugar Mill Falls being of a high standard.

The food was average and the local water was fresh; we experienced no tummy troubles during our stay!

Negatives include:

1) The staff was generally indifferent to your requests and very slow at serving.

2) The need to sign for absolutely everything using their credit card was very restrictive particularly when you have paid for an inclusive holiday and wanted the children to have some independence.

Positives would include:

1) Good children’s clubs

2) Strict control on underage drinking

3) Good a la carte restaurants. In these, the service was excellent.

We did two organized trips. They were good, but expensive. We would highly recommend that you do not go up Dunn’s River Falls with children - we feared for their safety.

All in all, we would not return to Jamaica, as we found the safety aspect outside the resort a concern and we missed visiting the local area by ourselves, disappointing, but nonetheless, we had a good holiday at the resort itself.

4.0 stars A very nice place with very enjoyable clubs for children. Visited: July 2002

I am nine years of age and went with my family to the lovely Wyndham Rose Hall this summer.

I thought the clubs were very good, as they were varied and included trips out of the clubhouse!

The food was excellent; I particularly liked the ice cream machine but was disappointed that there were not any ice lollies available during the day.

We went on two trips, one to a banana plantation, Croydon in the Mountains, which was very interesting and we got to try lots of different types of pineapple.

The other trip was to Dunns River Falls, where we climbed up a waterfall. I did not feel very safe even though I am a strong boy, good at sport and not a weakling. And I was very worried (as were Mum and Dad) about my six year old brother! I recommend that only adults do this activity as you get higher the waterfall gets harder to climb.

Back at the resort, I thought the swimming pools were fantastic, the slides were good, the bigger slide best tried with an adult first.

There were lovely restaurants to visit and I highly recommend the Three Palms.

I enjoyed playing lots of table tennis, but be careful of the hot sun! There were other games available to both adults and children.

I would like to go back, even though my parents are not so keen.

It was a great experience which I will remember for a lifetime.

5.0 stars Wyndham Rose Hall provided us a simply marvelous family vacation! Visited: May 2002
Posted by crabinsand
This was our first visit to Jamaica and our first time at an all-inclusive resort.

The staff could not have been more friendly or efficient. We left a computer on the bus trip over and we had a missing suitcase. The bellman told us to go enjoy and he would take care of everything, and within one hour both items were waiting for us in our room!

The pool facilities were just beautiful with lush landscaping and lots of shaded areas to rest. The slides and swim areas were beyond all expectations. Our children (five and eight) had the best vacation of their lives and have asked us to cancel our other scheduled summer trips and go back!

The buffets were such a nice and easy way to eat-overlooking the pool and ocean, too! My kids have severe allergies and the head chef walked them thru the buffet lines daily to help them with selections. Things may be at a slightly slower pace, but we found all staff members to be extemely friendly and so accommodating.

The all-inclusive plan was really the only way to stay-and a small tip every now and then was so appreciated - and you will benefit from it! There were all sorts of entertainment going on all the time if you wished - the crab races were really funny.

The beach was small, but very nice and perfect for kids. The hotel was very pretty, and although the rooms were a little older, they were large, very clean and well furnished. Also, the turn down serice was lovely.

We were here five days and had not one complaint-we really had a fantastic time!

4.0 stars We had a great time! Visited: May 2002
Posted by alaska12
My husand and I stayed at the Wyndham Rose Hall in May for seven nights. We had a great time.

The food was great, and the beach was okay. If you are looking for a white-sand, clear-water beach, this is not the place to go. We spent a lot of our time at the Sugar Mill Falls Waterpark.

When we arrived, we were bumped up to a ocean view room which also looked out over the golf course. It was the perfect side of the resort to be on, because the sunset was beautiful!

The service was a little slow at times. If you want a great drink, have Gregory make it for you at the pool bar! You have to try the Reef!

We also climbed the Dunns River Falls - which is a must! But bring your own water shoes, because they are expensive unless you want to rent them at the falls.

The only thing we did not care for was the way they handled the all-inclusive plan. For everything you got (drinks, food, snacks, etc.), you had to give them a room card which worked as a credit card and you had to sign for everything. It was a pain! They should use the wrist bands like all other resorts use!

My husband and I would definitely return, though. We had a blast!

3.0 stars Wyndham Rose Hall provided a wonderful long weekend. Visited: May 2002
Posted by ameedharia
I just returned from a four-day, three-night weekend and had an absolutely wonderful and relaxing vacation. All I wanted was good sun, a nice beach, a pool and cool drinks.

If you are interested in night life, gambling and fast service, this is not the place for you! The check-in was quick (sign up for Wyndham By Request), check out was late without charge and the flight was fine.

There were options for dining. I recommend going to the Italian and Three Palms restaurants which required reservations. Service could be excruciatingly slow at times, but if you already expect it, you can somehow deal with it a little better.

The massage was excellent. The 'dirty banana' frozen drink was my favorite and yes, the water was safe to drink. Hidden charges included the safe deposit box, bottles of water, premium liquor and certain menu items. The rooms were not lush by any means, but you were meant to stay outside.

4.0 stars Great golf, but..... Visited: March 2002
Posted by bubbamsu
We had a relaxing long weekend here. The resort is nice with a great pool, the lazy river and the water slides are a bonus. The golf course is excellent. It is very scenic and plays very tough. But, the caddies make it bearable. Next time I am in Mo Bay, I will definately try to play Three Palms again.

The down side to the resort is the way they have the all-inclusive set up. They give you a credit card and you use it every time you order something. Every dinner, every drink, no matter where you are in the resort you have to charge it to your room. If you have the all-inclusive package, then of course you don't have to repay the charges, but it is a major hassle. It was a pain when I was in the pool at the swim up bar and had to charge drinks and they give you a receipt to sign. Also, many times the servers or bartenders expected a tip and the next time we saw them the service was a little slower. I have no problem tipping, but the all-inclusive package that I bought included the tipping charges in it.

Another down side to the resort is a lack of night activity. The last bar closes somewhere around 1am and the others close hours before that one. This is not a place for people seeking an active nightlife with no kids around.

The food was alright, nothing spectacular, but decent with a fair amount of choices for every meal.

The rooms were fine. I don't go on vacation to spend time in my room, so as long as everything is running, the room is fine with me.

I will not be back to the Wyndham Rose Hall anytime soon, due to the all-inclusive charge card policy and the lack of nightlife, but I think this is a fine place to stay for a family with young kids seeking a vacation in the sun.

4.0 stars The Wyndham was great! Visited: February 2002
Posted by angela_anderson
We arrived at the Wyndham the day before Valentine's Day and it was fabulous. We got engaged the day we arrived!

Besides that, the resort was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I've traveled to many other islands and resorts and this resort was more than just memorable!

The variety of pools were great, especially the lazy river and the water slide. We really didn't take advantage of the swim-up bars, but they looked great. Speaking of bars, you must ask for their resort special "Ambassador" drink! It was a perfect cool blend and we had plenty of them!

The food was pretty good, too. We loved the breakfast and dinner buffets. The lines to be seated for the buffets were a little annoying at times. But don't miss out on having their Red Snapper fish sandwiches which we had every afternoon for lunch at the cafe'. Also, we had dinner on Valentine's Day at the restaurant downstairs which was elegant and quite divine.

We usually tip everywhere we go, so this was not a problem for us. We only left the resort once to go on the shopping tour, which, besides the hagglers at the second stop, it was a lot of fun. The bus driver even took the long route and gave us a quick tour, which was cool! This tour reconfirmed that we made the right choice in not staying in the town.

The entertainment was superb! There was live music every night. We had fun playing pool in the game room. The club and casino looked great too.

The rooms were a perfect size for us. However I never did find a plug outlet in the bathroom for my curling iron.

If you are looking to lay your towel on the beach for some sun, the Wyndham is not the resort for you. Although our view was incredible, the beach water up close was murky and the beach was only appropriate for beach chairs. The pools, lazy river, slides and three jacuzzi's more than compensated for this.

Other than that, I would highly recommend this beautiful resort.

4.0 stars It was wonderfully relaxing! Visited: February 2002
Posted by vgardner
We just returned from a seven-day stay. It was very relaxing, which is what we wanted.

The pool and cabanas were perfect. The beach was nice, but too windy most days.
The food was only so-so. Most dishes were overcooked and the selection was small at the two reservation restaurants. However, we would return.

The staff was very friendly. We experienced no problems at all (a stack of one dollar bills helped).

We would take the kids next time because there was a lot for them to do here.

I really enjoyed watching the water aerobics class - don't miss Everton!

4.0 stars Wyndham Rose Hall provided a fun family vacation! Visited: January 2002

My family of five went to the Wyndham and we really had a good time. The lazy river and the slides were fun and the beach was beautiful.

The food was delicious. Go with the all-inclusive package. Otherwise, the prices are ridiculously expensive.

The activities for teenagers needed some improvement, but overall we had a wonderful vacation.

The service was slow, but we got use to it after a day or two. The staff was very friendly.

The rooms were okay. We did lose electricity for ten minutes one evening, but it was no big deal.

We did not leave the resort. They had vendors come to the hotel so we could bargain and buy. Don't buy in the gift shop, it's more fun with the vendors.

You will truly enjoy the Wyndham - especially the lazy river and the slides!

5.0 stars Great family vacation spot. Visited: December 2001
Posted by kentmorrdave
I would agree with others that the rooms are on the small side, but they were sufficient. The sit-down restaurants were very good and the breakfast buffet was great. Pick and choose when and where you eat; there are numerous choices. The water park was such fun, we spent hours on the lazy river. The kids’ club provided great fun for our children. The employees were very friendly and provided good service, for which we left extra tips. The all-inclusive plan allows for you to enjoy the day without counting quarters and was well worth it.

3.0 stars Good not great Visited: October 2001
Posted by cj2342000
Tours and dive trips were pretty good. The concierge service was outstanding. However, the female staff (restaurants & bar staff)should really learn how to smile more often. In no way did they go out of there way to serve us, much less help us. I found that to be quite dissapointing.

There were only three restaurants available at the hotel, only one of them was a formal restaurant, reservations were required but often not available. The other two were buffets and the other, burgers. That did not leave us with many options. We inevitably ended up eating outside the resort which is the sole reason why I believe this resort to be a 3-star.

Overall, my stay was pleasant and relaxing. I don't think I would return here again, but again the stay was good not great.

5.0 stars We've booked again and can't wait! Visited: August 2001

We had the best time ever at the Wyndham Rose Hall.

The food and service were excellent. The staff was friendly and approachable. They could not do enough to ensure our stay was pleasurable. The water park was fantastic! The rooms were great - very clean and comfortable. We were able to obtain free beach towels every day and there were loads and loads of available sun loungers - you did not have to get up early to get a good spot.

The food at the Luna di Mare and Golf Club was outstanding. The golf club required a short trip (2 minutes) but we walked out of the hotel foyer and were greeted by a porter who summoned an air conditioned (free) taxi. He delivered us to the door of the restaurant - no waiting around! When we were ready, the taxi was there to take us back again - free of charge, of course!

Everything we needed was in the complex. It was a wonderful holiday!

4.0 stars Great hotel with a 1st class golf course. Visited: August 2001
Posted by JumboJeffries
Wife and I and two kids (16 and 13) just got back this week. It’s a great hotel with good food, choice of drinks and a friendly staff.

The hotel is very well equipped and clean. The choice of restaurants is very good, especially the one at Three Palms.

Beach is tidy and cleaned regularly, but the water tended to be on the murky side.

Our kids loved the Sugar Mill water park.

The golf course was superb. They were doing a special rate of $55 for 18 holes, buggy and caddie, which for the Caribbean is a bargain.

Overall, a great holiday—any gripes are too minor to mention here!

3.0 stars Great pool and golf course. Visited: July 2001
Posted by bmcconnell90
The lazy river and slides were great fun for adults and kids. The sea is cloudy and has rocks and stones in the water making it difficult to get in and out.

The golf course is excellent and playing in the weekly Texas Scramble is worthwhile. Clubs can be hired.

The entertainment was reasonable and appeared to get better as the holiday progressed. The staff was friendly and it is worth taking lots of US $1s for tips. Jamaican money was not used so don't bother with it. Things are liable to go missing, even when handed into the hotel when found.

The all-inclusive is a must or it would otherwise be very expensive. We used a phone card to phone the United Kingdom and were charged US $3 every time we tried to connect to the service even though it was engaged. It took 13 attempts to get 1 line (giving a US $39 charge - we argued this a got a 50% reduction).
Beach towels provided and plugs in the room are both UK and US.

We found the food repetitive and fairly boring, even in the good restaurants.
Every room has irons and hairdryers, although the later is not too good if you have long hair.

5.0 stars Beautiful and Amazing Place Visited: June 2001
Posted by jessicagermany
My husband and I went to Jamaica for our honeymoon and stayed at the Wyndham. We were so impressed. We got into our room within 15 minutes of getting to the resort.

The beach was beautiful and the water was clear and warm. The swimming pools and waterpark were so much fun, and the lazy river was very relaxing. The service was excellent and the food was very good. The food at the two nicer restaurants was wonderful. The people that worked there were so friendly and catered to your every need.

We had an amazing time and didn't want to leave. We will definitely be staying there again when we go back next year. I highly recommend this resort!

4.0 stars Great resort for everyone Visited: June 2001
Posted by jamabak
This resort was just awesome. There were so many things to do at the resort. The Lazy River and the slide were just the best. My boyfriend and I went; prior to the trip we shopped around trying to find the best resort at an affordable price. We were not disappointed.

Definitely, go for the all-inclusive package. Even if you think you are not going to eat a lot. Otherwise food and beverage is very expensive.

The food was decent. Some restaurants were better than others. Be sure to make a reservation for Three Palms.

It’s a great relaxing atmosphere for the entire family.

5.0 stars Paradise on Earth! Wish I could live there! Visited: June 2001
Posted by kmccullion
My boyfriend and I just got back from the lush tropical gardens of Wyndham Rose Hall. It was way better than what I anticipated and even more beautiful than any of the pictures I viewed online before going. (Trust me, they are older photos taken before the renovations.)

The waterpark was really fun and both pools had swim-up bars (my favorite). Be sure to visit Gregory in the main pool!

The staff was extremely friendly with or without extra tipping (although extra tipping tended to get you priority seating when the restaurants were crowded, your drinks served first, etc.) and they always remembered your name and face. I was extremely impressed with the little "extras" that the hotel provided such as Bath & Body Works shampoo and conditioner and melon scented soaps! The rooms were immaculately clean and had no trace of a musty smell.

The hotel offers massages on or off the beach for a fee. (Get one--their massage staff was terrific. I couldn't get up from the table because I was so relaxed!) There was also hair braiding right on the premises.

The Wyndham was definitely great for couples and families. (For you couples who want a romantic vacation, trust me, you’ll hardly notice any kids.) But the nightlife was a bit lacking. However, since the pool bar opens at 10 a.m., I was too exhausted to party into the wee hours of the night! All you want to do is just relax and not drink your face off. They do have a wonderful Gazebo Bar overlooking the Caribbean that offers live music and cigars--we pretty much camped out there each night.

The three hidden Jacuzzis in the waterpark stay open all night (very romantic) and are surrounded by flowers, coconut palms and banana trees.

The beach was small but gorgeously decorated with palm trees, cozy chairs and even had live music. The water was as blue as can be, but not perfectly clear like the Bahamas. Still, I wouldn't call it "murky" and it's far from the Jersey Shore water! I'm a beach person and I was extremely satisfied.

If you want a romantic getaway or to just relax with the family, the Wyndham is perfect! If you're looking to meet someone and hook up, you may want to go to Hedonism instead. I'm definitely going back to the Wyndham ASAP!

By the way, schedule a trip to Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios. It's a bit of a hike, but well worth it!

4.0 stars Very beautiful and relaxing! Visited: June 2001

My husband and I just returned from a 4-day getaway. We paid for an all inclusive package and, boy, am I relieved! Breakfast buffets ran $16 pp and dinner buffets about $25 pp. Frozen drinks $6 and mixed about $4. Even though most people were all-inclusive, the resort offers many dining choices. We enjoyed that! (No matter what restaurant we tried, we never were disappointed in the meal.)

The room was clean and the view was beautiful! There were a lot of families with small kids. I guess that's why there was no nightlife to speak of?!? The prices seemed high in the gift shops, next time we'll go into town. We've been to Negril, and the 10 minute bus ride to MoBay was a pleasure. The activities were minimal to none (mainly because nobody wanted to join in) and the entertainment during dinner was ok. But come 9:00 pm, everyone packs it in for the evening! Next time we'll bring the kids!

4.0 stars We love this resort! Visited: May 2001

My husband and I got married at the Wyndham in May of 2001. It was a perfect experience. The staff could not have been nicer. Mavis Thomas (who was an absolute doll) planned everything for us.

The desk upgraded us to a ocean view room when we told them we were getting married. And everyone we came in contact with in the bar and the restaurants were friendly and fun loving. We had such a great time that we went back in December, and have another trip planned for this December.

They made us feel like old friends upon our return trip in December of 2001. One night, we returned to our room to find a chilled bottle of champagne and a platter of fresh cut fruit.

We also loved the waterpark and spent lots of time there. We enjoyed the restaurants and were never really disappointed with our selections.

We thought the staff was exceptional and our experiences were only good ones. We can't wait until December.
