5.0 stars Wow, wow, wow! Visited: November 2008

I stood at the Grand Lido Negril and I was impressed. I had a oceanfront Jacuzzi suite. I never had to leave the room with 24-hour room service and the beach out the front door.

The hot tub in the suite was to die for. The "Fountain of Youth" facial was amazing, too. The first night I drank three bottles of champagne in my suite, and it was "wow".

The staff and the manager, Roberto, were so attentive and just great. They also had a beautiful beach and pool. The bar service was non stop everywhere - pool, room, and beach. It was amazing.

The French and Japanese restaurants were both excellent. I even got a cake for my birthday.

I have never been spoiled like I was here. I felt like a queen. Everyone knew my name here, too, and they were so nice.

Not at all what I expected. Mole and dirt coming from the A/C. and people hammering and make repairs at odd hours of the night, but what a great beach.

5.0 stars It's the most beautiful resort in Negril, and serves the best food! Visited: May 2003

We debated where to stay--Beaches, Sandals, Riu, Superclubs...? Grand Lido Negril was hands down the nicest resort in Negril.

The lobby resembled a Greek palace resort--outdoors with fountains and made entirely of natural rock. The style was Mediterranean, with wonderful terra cotta rooftops. The landscaping was absolutely amazing - lush growth, palm trees and flowers everywhere, and all extremely well kept. I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but there was the most incredible massive old tree right in the middle of the property that must be 20 feet wide at the base!

And for the food! Repeat visitors we spoke to said they stayed all over the Caribbean and kept coming back to Grand Lido because the food set it apart from the rest.

All the granite bars and buffets were garnished with local wood masterpiece carvings (one of which we brought home with us!). The buffet must have been about 100 feet across--the Grand Gala dinner overflowed to the pool and side areas.

We were served endless top quality food all week, and drinks that wouldn't stop!

We received a great rate through a company discount, and were upgraded to a beachfront room on the nude beach upon arrival. And, although we are not nudists, and we kept our clothes on (most of the time!), it was fun to be on the "wild side". You get used to mostly topless folks quickly, no different than South Beach Miami I'd say--well, sort of. No one really cared.

Marlon, Captain John, Cherona, Darnell, the entertainers, and the rest of the staff were great. We hope you get to hear "Caribbean Rythms"...the number one steel band in the Caribbean they claim!

The rooms were good, if very humid. There was a bit of a musty smell from the moisture all the time. They were well equipped, and renovated (with jacuzzi tubs).

But a warning: When you arrive, you may feel a bit let-down by the countryside, parts of Jamaica are very run down. The commute to Negril was tough, even with the new highway, and it was hard to digest how such a beautiful place, could be so disrupted. We saw poor, dirty communities, then a 10,000 square foot mansion pluncked right next to it. It was very odd.

But, let yourself enjoy the ocean and many amenities-and you will have an incredible time!

We just got back from Grand Lido Negril for the 3rd time. We were married there almost 7 yrs ago, and we probably won't be going back. It is definitely NOT what it used to be.

In the past, I have given Grand Lido Negril a raving review, and I'm sure you will find it somewhere on this site. I am now taking that review back.

Because of the bad "attitude" of the staff and the lack of service, the amount you pay for this vacation just isn't worth it. On a couple of days, we were so stressed I couldn't believe we were actually on vacation!

I suggest you find somewhere else to spend your money and your time. You will likely be much happier.

Comparing to Grand Lido Sans Souci (no longer owned by SuperClubs), where we stayed previously, the service was not very good. The beach was great. Both pools were very small, although the grounds were beautiful.

There?s very good food. The front desk was not overly helpful when trying to upgrade/change rooms. All pools and hot tubs on property were closed for cleaning one night at the same time. Main thing: You are stuck at an all-inclusive resort, segregated from the rest of Negril. I actually had a better time at a local hotel on the 7-mile beach.

2.0 stars Just okay. Visited: September 2002

We stayed at Grand Lido Negril for our honeymoon and thought it was just okay. We were expecting a great resort from all the reviews and when we got there we were a little disappointed. I don't want to make it seem like it wasn't nice but there were some things I would like to bring up.

The rooms were over-run and worn. We stayed in a junior suite on the clothing optional side and it had a beautiful view, but I could have stayed at a Holiday Inn and had better blankets and pillows. The bathroom had a very small bathtub and always and I mean always was out of hot water (nothing like taking a cold shower).

The food was also just okay. Once again I thought I was mislead. It just didn't seem like anything special. We did talk to a couple that stays here all the time and they said that it was a little disappointing this time too. So maybe it was just timing. The French restaurant was great but you could never get in and we stayed for 9 nights. In addition, Grand Lido did not have an Internet connection.

Overall it was an okay stay and will go back this year because it is free but probably won't stay there again because there?s so many other (cheaper) options to pick from.

3.0 stars Great staff, but a tired resort! Updating is in progress! Visited: September 2002

We'd stayed at the Grand Lido San Souci the year before (June 2001) and the Sandals Negril Resort (March 2002) and we were quite excited to be going to the Grand Lido Negril.

The long and short of it....best staff of anywhere we have stayed but the facilities are tired. However, they are in the middle of a huge room renovation and we did get to view the changes they have completed. It will be great when it is done.

The food was much better than at the Sandals Negril and the 24 hour room service was the absolute best. The water crafts were very tired and some they left on the beach for show because they didn't work!

The catamarran to Rick's for the sunset cruise was included in the cost (unlike Sandals), and it was a far better trip than on the "Wild Thing" Sandals sent us to and we paid extra for ($40 per person). This cat picked us up at the resort and the drinks and snacks were excellent.

We are going to give them another chance as the General Manager was great in reacting to our concerns. Spring 2003 will bring new rooms and updates so I wouldn't go until at least Feb.2003.

One word of advice- avoid the third week in September when the "Newd Crew" do their annual reunion. They think they own the place and take over one half of the resort. That is unless you are into saggy breasts flopping in the breeze and old men running around showing their leather enhanced shortcomings!

4.0 stars It was very nice if you can get a good deal on price. Visited: September 2002

The Grand Lido Negril was a very nice all-inclusive resort. We took advantage of the" buy one trip this year, get one free next year" deal which made the resort even better.

The good things were the staff, beach, scuba, water activities and most of all the 24-hour room service. The beach was directly in front of our beachfront jr. suite, which we upgraded for free when we checked in. The beach was beautiful, white sand with clear, blue water and a beach bar for drinks. All the bars had premium brand liquor, Beam, jack Daniels, etc.

The pool was small, but nice. There was a hot tub that was nice, but never got very hot. Floats, towels, chairs etc. were always plentiful. The room service food was great - especially the lamb chops. Yummm! They offered the standard resort buffet for breakfast and lunch (Couples buffet was better) and different restaurants were available for dinner.

Both the “La Pasta” and “Café Lido” were good food, but nothing exciting. The high-end French restaurant was very formal, with a jacket required - but again, the food was above average, but nothing wonderful.

The best food we had all week was at the LTU Pub located on the cliffs directly next to Rick’s Café. The LTU Pub had seating directly on the cliffs overlooking the beautiful sea. They had great food and atmosphere.

The Lido was very nice, everyone was friendly, and I look forward to going back again free next year. But if the same price were offered for the Lido or Couples Negril (neighboring property), I would choose Couples except for the 24-hour room service which was a great plus.

5.0 stars Our best vacation ever! Visited: July 2002

We had a great time at Grand Lido Negril. The food was fabulous at Piacere. I couldn't decide between the rack of lamb and the beef tenderloin, so they brought me both. Both were a perfect 10.

Cafe Lido food was coming from the same kitchen, just a less formal restaurant. #1 service. Don't skip dessert! We never ate at La Pasta, but friends from New York said it was great.

The facilities were very impressive. Our room could have been a little better, but we didn't spend a lot of time hanging out in our room. The clothing optional beach was no big deal, we exercised our option to wear swim suits and so did about half of the others. Scuba diving was outstanding, it was my first time. Snorkeling was also super.

The sunset party cruise was fun, take snorkel gear to make cave swimming easy and more fun. The cello and classical guitar players were first-rate and played every morning during breakfast. It went great with eggs benedict! Our bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was very big.

Two complaints: The hair dryer didn't work and it took two days to get fixed. Also, the sofa in room needed mildew cleaned. It was no big deal. Take a hair dryer and put down a towel.

We were here in July, and it was very hot and humid. But, the water was great. Take a big mug to the Rock House Bar and Grill so you don't have to wear yourself out getting a million little 8 ounce drinks. The grill there had great burgers, jerk chicken and onion rings.

Went to Rick's Cafe (famous tourist trap), and I had a great time, but couldn't jump. My wife didn't care for it because she doesn't drink much. It would be more fun with a large group. If you take travelers checks, be prepared to get Jamaican change.

Lots of locals try to sell you smoke, it was no big deal to say no and walk away with a smile. Take the TimAir plane to and from Mo Bay, it's worth twice the price. Get a massage in a hut by the ocean. It was a highlight for my wife. Also, book all of your activities as soon as you get here, some things like manicures, snorkeling and dinner at Piacere fill up.

This was the best vacation we have ever taken and we can't wait to go back.

3.0 stars Gran Lido not so Grand! Visited: May 2002
Posted by pat_manley
My wife and I just got back from a week long stay at Grand Lido Negril. To get straight to the point, we were both very disappointed. We stayed at a similar resort last year and were somewhat shocked at how we felt it exceeded Grand Lido in almost every category. And considering that GLN is more expensive than the other resort and GLN is supposed to be the more “upscale” resort, we felt like the unfortunate victims of a cruel practical joke. After our week’s stay we felt that not only does GLN not surpass the other resort, but it hardly is even able to compete with it in almost every important category (detailed below).

We’re still scratching our heads trying to figure out how GLN gets such consistently good reviews when it seems to be a second-rate competitor to its neighbor just next door. Now, before I go any further I just want to say that this review is not easy to write because I don’t want it to appear that I’m just slamming GLN because despite it’s shortcomings, the people that work there are super and very friendly. But the long and the short of it is [in our opinion] GLN is over-priced!

The two things that we were most disappointed with were the rooms and the food. First, the rooms are much worn. We stayed in an ocean-front, junior suite. The decor in the room was tired; the walls were a drab taupe color with the two sides of the room done in some kind of a rough stucco-like finish. The wood furniture looked very old and worn. The floor was a dull lifeless tile that showed years of daily mopping. The bed was uncomfortable with a dingy comforter and flat pillows. And the bathroom was even worse. It consisted of old fixtures, poor lighting, no water-pressure, old tile-work, and a worn-out shower head that needed to be replaced years ago. I’ve seen better bathrooms in a Motel 6. This seemed so out of place for a supposedly “upscale” four-diamond, six-star, five-apple, something-or-other resort. And when I think that we paid about the same price for a full suite at another property a year ago I just cringe.

The food was another big area of disappointment. We were expecting some really fine and elaborate dining experiences. We had read for months (Internet discussion boards) about how great the food was and we had also read about the culinary awards that GLN had received. But we found the food to be just a little better than average – something that could be easily gotten at any other mid-range resort.

5.0 stars A wonderful, relaxing, and fun stay. Visited: October 2001

We flew from Montego Bay to Negril and recommend it to others. It was a short flight and we could see the winding, twisting road that the bus had to travel. We were there in 20 minutes instead of an hour and a half.

Check in was easier and fun, they gave us a cold cloth and champagne while we sat in the veranda and filled out the paperwork. Also, the food was pretty good and there was plenty of it!

We stayed on the clothing optional side and, other than minor problems with the heat of the jaccuzzi, we had a terrific time. If you plan on going, make sure you take advantage of the 24-hour room service. We had turkey clubs at midnight in our room and it was such a treat!

The beach was awesome and we made new friends who we hope to see again next year.

Super Clubs may be increasing their prices. If this is the case, we may not be able to go. Our hearts are in Jamaica, so we will have to find a different place to go if it gets too expensive.

My Fiance' and I stayed ten nights (Lido Sampler) - four nights at Lido Sans Souci and six nights at Grand Lido Negril.

Our stay at the Grand Lido in Negril was perfect. We had a one-bedreoom beach front suite with a jacuzzi in the bathroom and a larger one outside on the porch/garden/patio. The room was perfect - fit for a king.

The room service was non-stop. Whatever you wanted, they delivered. The staff at the Grand Lido Resorts really lived up to their motto "No Problem Mon".

The food was delicious, the environment was refreshing, the music was excellent, the staff was friendly. What more could anyone want?

We hated to leave. But, good things come to those who wait. Next year, we are coming back to Jamacia in July for two weeks to get married and enjoy our honeymoon. We will stay seven nights in Sans Souci and seven nights in Negril. We can hardly wait!

5.0 stars Absolutely perfect vacation!! Visited: June 2001

We just returned from Grand Lido Negril yesterday, and wish we could have stayed forever. It was a wonderful experience, and we cannot wait to go back. We have never been on a vacation where we truly felt 100% satisfied with everything, and we have been to quite a few luxury resorts. But, this vacation satisfied both of our discriminating tastes.

The food was amazing, the service was perfect, the room and view was beautiful, the entertainment was exciting and fun, and the resort itself is perfectly manicured and maintained and extremely spacious.

The staff is friendly and willing to help in any way possible. If you are there on a Friday night, go to the General Manager's Gala Buffet. However, if you are a golfer, you may want to think twice about playing golf. It is a decent course, and you end up spending more than you would like (caddy is mandatory, cart, tipping caddy, renting clubs)-- which cost me $90.

All of the restaurants are wonderful, and the clothing optional beach is very interesting. This place is worth every penny. Also, take the flight from MoBay to Negril, rather than a taxi/bus ride.

Perhaps, like us, you are looking for a fabulous vacation that includes great accommodations, a fun staff, many activities and beautiful beaches; at the Grand Lido you get much more. You also get to enjoy special moments like a sole Alto Sax player playing on the lawn at sunset, other fun quests, terrific music morning, noon and night and a massage overlooking the ocean.

This is a warm, sexy, fun place that will probably enjoy very high repeat business. They’ve earned it!

I just returned from Grand Lido Negril! We were booked on a SuperClub Surprise trip at Breezes Montego Bay, but when we arrived in Jamaica they upgraded us to the Grand Lido Negril! Everything was clean and the staff was EXCELLENT! The food was delicious and the French restaurant is a MUST! I would recommend this resort to anyone who wants to relax and unwind. We enjoyed our stay so much we extended our trip two more nights.

Here's a tip: If you want to go shopping go on your own. The price for a cab from the hotel to downtown Negril is one dollar per person. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Never ask the price ahead of time. Just tell them where you're going then give them a dollar per person when you get out. Go to Time Square to shop. The Cigar King will even let you use the phone and Internet for a couple of dollars. Enjoy!

4.0 stars Wonderful, restful respite from the real world! Visited: June 2000

Just returned last Thursday, June 8, 2000, from 7 days at Grand Lido Negril. The resort's grounds were just beautiful. On arrival we received our choice of drinks, including champagne, and check-in was smooth and quick. We got our first room choice as I had faxed a request. It opened onto the clothing optional beach, just steps from the beach, pool, hot tub and bar. Perfect. Champagne was delivered to our room and was a nice surprise. Fresh flowers on our pillows each night were a nice touch.

Had a blast at the "Wild and Sexy Pajama Party." Coffee, juice and pastries were set up at the clothing optional bar every morning. Aromatherapy massages (that we paid extra for) were worth every penny -- and for us were done in one of the gazebos by the sea.

The piano bar was nice and all 3 restaurants were very good. The whole resort offered outstanding food -- the best I've ever had at an all-inclusive for sure and the best maybe at any resort. Jerk chicken and lambchops to die for -- plus the tomato soup at Cafe Lido was absolutely yummy!! The French restaurant, Piacere, was as good as anything we've had in the states. And when they didn't have their signature chocolate dish available, they made me a special dessert (not on the menu) as I was craving chocolate.

Breakfast buffets were delicious - especially the omelettes made by Omar! Also every a.m. at the breakfast buffet, a string quintet was playing - one of the nicest touches I thought. Lunch buffets were fine, but we usually stayed on the beach and ordered from the grill at the bar - hot dogs, hamburgers, jerk chicken, and pizza were all very good.

We danced a lot as the live music every evening was very good. The snorkeling wasn't as good as it is, say, in Cozumel, but still fun. Parasailing - which cost extra - was a blast! We were supposed to go for the sunset champagne cruise on the resort's yacht but when we got out to the yacht, it poured rain. So we drank and listened to the band that was on board, then headed back for shore.

Complimentary manicures/pedicures were nice. Loved the hammocks positioned throughout the property. All in all, a very relaxing trip. Plus we met several very nice, friendly people. It was so nice to know nothing of what was going on in the "real" world and to have either total peace and quiet or a range of activities to choose from. I really feel like we got away.

We would recommend Grand Lido Negril and will probably go back -- once we've been to every other place in the world we want to go!

My wife and I staged a weeklong escape from our 2-year-old twin boys in May of 2000. The Grand Lido Negril was just what the doctor ordered.

This was a beautiful spot. We had a lovely room, fabulous food and an attentive and personable staff. There were lots of fun things to do. These guys flat out know what they're doing. We got a scuba certification (for an additional fee) as well. They say the diving isn't that great compared to the "hot" diving spots, but I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.

We flew from Montego Bay to Negril, and back, on TimAir (a four-seater plane) and boy was that ever a great idea. Everybody complained all week about the bus ride from hell, and we just smiled and thought of our 20-minute ride with gorgeous scenery. I'm a pilot so the small plane didn't bug me. If you have no prejudice against small planes, you are crazy not to fly to Negril. In the grand scheme it doesn't cost that much and it is just so much better.

Incidentally, we stayed on the nude side even though that's not really our bag, but it was no big deal, and that part of the resort was lovely.

The restaurants are excellent - the 24 hour room service is fun! My husband and I were married there and the staff did a wonderful job -- and we got excellent pictures by a professional photographer.

The grounds are gorgeous - absolutely perfect for wedding pictures. You have to try Red Snapper sandwiches from the Stone House. The pool is magnificent and we loved all of the Jacuzzis. We prefer to stay on the "au natural" side of the hotel (not because the view is fantastic -- remember the sunbathers are not necessarily in shape!) but because we like to be near the Stone House.

We had a lot of fun here. As a matter of fact, we are going back this year and have reserved the same room on the same side and we can't wait! You will definitely enjoy this vacation!

My husband and I were married at the Grand Lido Negril on Princess Graces' honeymoon yacht. The resort did a wonderful job catering to all our requests and pampering us and our guests.

The rooms are very large and spacious. We walked right out onto a beautiful, long white beach. Champagne was in the marble foyer upon arrival, white gloved service for dinner, hidden whirlpools and bars for midnight dips, incredible food and first class serice.

Highly recommend!!

When we arrived at Grand Lido Negril, we were impressed by the beauty of the resort, not to mention the top notch hospitality of the staff. We needed the "eye candy" and friendliness, after our long journey to get here. Though we didn't care for the 2 hour bus ride from Montego Bay to the resort, it was well worth it. Champagne, service, spa luxury, clothing optional beach, 24-hour room service, not having to keep up with money, tipping, etc.; it was paradise.

My husband and I were married here; they really know how to put a memorable wedding together. Our wedding planner, Sophia Haughton, deserved an award. She was great.

All of the restaurants served some of the best food I've ever had. We met many wonderful people here and hope to return next year. Possibly a "reunion" with friends met while here would be nice.

The Jamaican's respected our privacy, but were "there" if/when we needed them, for anything. They really know how to make you feel comfortable and worry free. We really enjoyed not knowing what was going on back home.....hated the day we left. Next year, we plan to stay 2 weeks.

We didn't know if we would visit the clothing optional beach or not, but once we got there, who cared! It was very liberating to not have to worry about clothing and to simply relax. Since it was all mature couples, looking for a care free, non-confined experience, it really was great.

I recommend Grand Lido Negril to anyone, especially to marry or to renew vows. It was absolutely the greatest setting. I can't imagine any better.
