Providence Estate House - Montserrat

Providence Estate House is currently closed due to the volcanic activity on Montserrat.

Providence is a well-known plantation house in Montserrat, locally famous for having been Paul McCartney's home for several months when he recorded "Ebony and Ivory" in Montserrat with Stevie Wonder in the early 80s. The building was totally refurbished in 1992 under the direction of a British historic building specialist, to become a unique and private Bed & Breakfast. It has just two guest bedrooms, sleeping four in classic yet informal Caribbean style; both bedrooms open directly onto the large pool deck, with views over the Caribbean and the islands of Redonda and Nevis, and up to Montserrat's green, lush mountains. Guests enjoy a private entrance, and are quite separate from the owner's accommodation on the upper floor. The guest rooms are cool within their thick stone walls and original heavy timbered ceilings. Each room has its own bathroom and cable television. There is also a living room for guests' exclusive use, and a small poolside kitchenette with refrigerator. A full breakfast is served each morning on the pool deck, with fresh fruit in season from the garden.


Providence is set in its own private ten acre estate, with extensive tropical gardens and lawn, and enjoys a pleasant breeze at its elevation of almost 600 feet. It is located on the favored north-west coast of Montserrat, and is about five or ten minutes' drive away from several beaches. The airport and the island's capital, Plymouth, are both about twenty minutes away. Local activities include diving (two local dive shops), golf, hiking in the mountains, tennis, fishing, windsurfing, mountain biking, sailing, and above all enjoying the friendly, unspoiled surroundings of an English-speaking island still without mass tourism, traffic lights, fast-food chains and beach vendors. Rates are exceptionally reasonable: even in the high season nightly rates (inclusive of breakfast and tax) are under US$100 for two.
