Q: We are coming to Vieques from the main island of Puerto Rico on 12/27/07 and returning on 1/1/08. We have rented a car in San Juan because we are visiting there before we come. We have been told that we cannot bring the car from San Juan on the regular ferry. There is supposed to be a private ferry. Do you know how to contact them and if this is so? There are no rental cars left on Vieques. We are a family of 6 and feel we will need a car while there. Do you have any suggestions? National Car Rental told me it is OK with them if I take the car to Vieques. Answer

A: Sure, you can do this. The cargo ferry goes on weekdays only. One way car transportation fee for a small car is $15, for a medium size car or truck is $19 (this fee includes the drivers ticket). Passengers pay the $2/person fee in addition to the car fee. For Cargo reservations call at least two weeks in advance from 8 AM to 11 AM and from 1 PM to 3PM:
