5.0 stars Wow! It was great! Visited: April 2001

I visited the Hyatt with my mom, dad, and younger sister Danielle last April. I'm still begging my parents to take us back.

They have a great kids club. I loved it, and I was 11. The Hyatt is great for a real family vacation in the islands. If you are going to Puerto Rico, don't give where to stay a second thought. The Hyatt is the way to go! Have fun!

4.0 stars Ten plus years and loving it! Visited: April 2001

My family and I have been frequenting the Cerromar for over ten years, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I'm 24 years old, so I got to experience the 'child' aspect of the hotel, as well as the 'adult' aspect, and I have thoroughly enjoyed both.

Yes, the rooms could be bigger. They have improved greatly over the years, but I've seen better. However, the lobby is beautiful -- the huts at the beach are serene (and keep you away from the screaming kids), and the Swan Cafe is great for casual dining.

I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful, and the service has been great.

Be prepared to spend some money while you're here, but it's well worth it. In fact, I'm returning in September, and I can't wait!

3.0 stars Great Pool + Dirty Room + $445/night = wouldn't return Visited: March 2001

We are frequent guests at Hyatt and have come to expect a clean, well-appointed room. We have stayed at many resorts priced $200-$300, which were worth it, but that wasn't the case at Cerromar. Our room was dirty, with a black, mildewed shower curtain, an old razor from prior guest on the bathroom counter and trash on the deck, etc. We complained about various problems and they did tend to them, but at $445/night I shouldn't have to complain. In general, the room felt old and dated, and I was under the impression that the property had been refurbished last year.

The pool/beach area was fantastic, however, and our 14-yr-old son loved it. The Pina Coladas at the pool bar were great—creamy smooth. Good snorkeling for beginners/kids was available right off of the beach. There was good food at Swan Café. All of the other restaurants required reservations and were always booked if you called the same day that you wised to dine. We don't like a rigid schedule when on vacation, so Swan Cafe ended up being the only place to eat dinner, and five days of it grew boring.

4.0 stars Great Vacation spot, but the rooms could be bigger Visited: September 2000

My husband and I went to Puerto Rico last year for the first time. The island was enchanting. The resort was beautifully designed. From the moment you enter the driveway, you feel like you have entered paradise.

The only thing we felt was lacking, was the room size. We felt it was too small. There was no dinning table, so we if we wanted to eat in the room, we had to eat on the bed. The best dinner we had was at La Casa restaurant, located in the Dorado Beach resort, adjacent to Cerromar.

Overall, we loved the tranquil days and "Coqui" filled nights. We are planning to go back this year.

4.0 stars Fantastic Visited: September 2000

I loved the hotel from the moment I arrived. The service was great, friendly and professional. The food was excellent. The river pool was the best. My two children loved the pool, myself included. I know I picked a good time of the year to go (after Labor Day); there were many times we had the entire pool to ourselves.

I have been to Puerto Rico three times. I loved this resort so much, I bought a timeshare at the Hyatt in the same location!

5.0 stars Much better in March of 2000 Visited: March 2000

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Cerromar in 1998 and at that time, I found the resort to be in dire need of an upgrade. We returned to the resort in March of this year (2000). Fortunately, the renovation process is well underway (though not yet fully completed) and the difference is immediately noticeable. The grounds were immaculate, the pools sparkled and the tropical gardens were beautifully manicured.

The guest rooms have also been renovated (colorful area rugs now adorn the tile floors) and everything looks and feels new and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and the resort now has the unmistakable feel of a Hyatt.

In short, I would definitely recommend the Hyatt Regency Cerromar to anyone wanting to spend some time in a beautiful, high quality resort in the Caribbean!

5.0 stars Loaded with fun and excitement! Visited: January 2000

The funnest warm weather vacation I have ever had! Well, being a kid of 11, it was very fun. There was a huge water slide that was tons of fun and a lazy river with waterfalls and additional slides. It was so cool. After breakfast my family went down to the pool and me and my brother, who is 8, and my sister who is 5, would spend the whole day swimming by ourselves.

My family plays tennis so we brought our tennis equipment, but we did not even have time to use them. Snorkeling was the best. I was a little afraid of the water and sharks, but when I went snorkeling I had the funnest time (and didn’t see any sharks). My brother and dad and I rented snorkeling equipment and went right for the beach at the resort. Along the beach there were beautiful reefs of all color and there were thousands of brightly colored fish lurking around the reef.

We stayed here over New Year’s, and it was so much fun. Thousands of balloons fell from the ceiling at midnight! For a day we went into old San Juan and did some great sightseeing and shopping! The Parrot Club Restaurant is the best! I had the best goat cheese burrito! Overall, the trip was fantastic! We may even go back again this New Year’s!

2.0 stars Under construction, outdated lobby and unresponsive staff Visited: March 1999
Posted by lbothfer
My family stayed in the hotel in March of 1999. It was under construction, had an outdated lobby, unclean rooms, an unresponsive staff and crowded facilities. Hyatt made us aware of the construction two days prior to our departure while we were making a golf reservation: "I see you haven't been advised we have construction going on" Upon further investigating we were told:"it will be minimial ei-painting" The construction took place outside our room, in the lobby, on the roof, around the pool, and there were four floors of the hotel closed with construction taking place on them. Cerramor is not a good representative of a typical Hyatt resort hotel.

4.0 stars The river pool and grounds were great. Visited: December 1969

The Hyatt Regency had a nice layout. The pools, hot tub and beach were all great. We had a good time.

We were here with a group. The meals were not the average tourist choices, so I cannot say about the eateries and service.

Does anyone know about the resort's future?

3.0 stars Not worth the money Visited: December 1969

This so called 5 star hotel had the worst service of anywhere I have ever stayed. While the facility was beautiful, the service was poor to say the least. There is no one to help with your luggage upon arrival or departure. Bed linens were stained. There were no wash cloths in the room when we arrived.

Little activities to do during the day and only the casino as entertainment at night Monday thru Wednesday. This is not a family resort - keep the kids at home. If you love golf you'll have a great time. It was like staying home, but with a better view.

4.0 stars A great family resort Visited: December 1969

I stayed at this resort last summer with my family and it was a great experience. The swimming pools are really fun. It's got a great golf course and the spa was wonderful. The restaurant was also great. The Cerromar Beach Resort is worth every penny.

3.0 stars Not what I expected Visited: December 1969
Posted by RGarcia
I just returned from staying at this Hyatt and would say that I was disappointed. First thing, it took 50 minutes for me to check-in. The one nice thing was I was able to upgrade to a VIP Suite which was beautiful and large with great views from two balconies.

The river pool was fun for about 2 hours in the early morning because after that it was too crowded.

The grounds and bathrooms were unkept. There were cups all over the place. Most of the guests at the resort were from Puerto Rico which was not what I expected.

We ate at the Hyatt Dorado twice; it was much quieter and cleaner.

I have to say that I chose this place because I thought the kids would really have a great time but I was terribly disappointed.

My wife and I went for our honeymoon last year and we are looking forward to going back for our first anniversary. It was the best service and the people were the best! No doubt it's a place we will never forget.
