I had a great vacation. Visited: April 2007
Posted by anntighe
I loved the Copamarina Beach Resort. I will be going back in November.

I loved the fact that it was small. It was a short walk to pools, the beach and restaurants.

The staff was great, the rooms were clean, and it was a very relaxing atmosphere.

What a beautiful beachfront resort. Visited: December 2006
Posted by mommy2l_l
We enjoyed staying here. The staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds were gorgeous, and it was a clean and well maintained secluded resort.

The beachfront was nice, and the water was calm, but it was not the best sand on Puerto Rico - but nice all the same. There were plenty of watersports activities to rent.

The rooms were large, but noisy. We could hear neighbors as if they were in the same room as us, which was annoying when we were trying to get kids to sleep, and they returned after midnight and turned the TV on loud.

Also, the dive instructor didn't tell us boats had been out of order for days and strung us along for 24 hours on a possible trip. By the time he informed us boats were no good, it was too late to book elsewhere - all booked up and we were leaving PR.

There were two restaurants. The food was fair and overpriced. On the whole, we still recommend this hotel, especially if traveling with kids.

Copamarina is maximum relaxation. Visited: October 2006

This resort it in the middle of "Nowhere", Puerto Rico. It is in southwest area of the island known as La Isla de Encanto (The Island of Enchantment).

If you are a beach bum, but hate sharing the beach - this the place to be. Many secluded beaches are in the area. Plus, you can take the ferry to Gilligans Island and have the small cay all to yourself.

I suggest you come and enjoy what this place has to offer.

This was a peaceful tropical getaway. Visited: March 2006
Posted by lousal3
My wife and I wanted to go away to get out of the New York cold and also to relax and get away from work.

We didn't want one of those big, loud, crowded hotels in San Juan, so we decided to give the Copamarina a try. We only read the reviews that were posted online by others, so we were taking a leap of faith. What a great surprise!

The hotel was beautiful. It was very quiet, clean, low-key, peaceful and relaxing. The staff was attentive without being overbearing. The grounds were clean, the pools were sparkling, and at times we felt like we were in our own private hotel.

We got upgraded to a larger room without even asking. The room was very clean and pleasent. There were two pools to choose from, and plenty of lounge chairs and space to yourselves. All the other guests were friendly as well. This was a perfect place for what we were looking for.

Things to think about: There was little to no nightlife on the premises. The restaurant choices were limited on premises (but good). Also, the drive from the airport was 1 1/2 hours (which didn't seem bad to us).

If you are looking for a relaxing getaway at a great price, with not a lot of crowds or noise, Copamarina is for you. We will definitely be back!

Puerto Rico is amazing! Visited: November 2005
Posted by greeneacrinc
The resort was clean and very beautiful to look at. We had the all-inclusive package as it was required with the RCI timeshare folks. We used the Copamarina as our home base.

We always had breakfast here. We had their nice buffet most days, and some days we had a made to order breakfast. If we were venturing out, we had the resort make us a lunch as we were paying for it anyway.

And dinner was always in the Alexandra Room at the resort. The dinner menu got a bit thin with seven nights to choose from just one menu, but the food was excellent. I have to say, I am actually tired of lobster and filet mignon.

Absolutley go out into the countryside! Don't just stay at the resort or you will miss the absloute beauty of Puerto Rico! The rainforests were breathtaking! The silence (except for the coqui frog and an occasional chicken) was amazing. I took sunset pictures from the north side, west side and south side of the island. What an amazing place.

Don't be afraid to venture out, but know that the maps are all horrible and directions are sketchy at best. I-10 stopped completely in the middle and turned into a tiny little road. All roads were steep and skinny - but breathtaking!

Eat in Maricau at Hacienda Juanita. It is worth the flight to Puerto Rico. I didn't spend any time in San Juan. The Torre Negro rainforest was spectacular, but I didn't make it to the other bigger one.

The resort was clean and beautiful, and the staff was amazingly helpful. One staff person even had her aunt make us some Puerto Rican food to bring back to the states!

The Bio Bay was a bit of a rip off. You really can't swim in it. One boat let us, and he didn't have a ladder. My husband cut his leg getting into the boat via the motor.

Gilligan's Island was amazing. It was georgeous. Wear swim shoes as the coral was brutal. Have a wonderful trip!

Beatiful scenery, nice resort, but could be so much better! Visited: February 2004
Posted by sally_clarke
The 2 hour drive from San Juan to Copamarina is lovely. The last bit of road down to the resort proves that you are well off the beaten track. If you don't like it you are stuck there unless you hire a car .

Rooms are basic but nice. Each room has air con machine which is very noisy, you can easily hear the next rooms' machine. Don't let them put you in room 304, as when you have a shower it floods the whole bedroom as the shower floor doesn't slope towards the drain! The fact that the cleaning staff new all about the problem was also annoying. Why put people in a room with a problem???

The best part about Copamaria is the diving. Check whether the big diving boat is available otherwise they cram you onto a small boat which doesn't ride the waves as well and makes the majority of people sick. The diving instructors are the most friendly staff at the resort so get diving as soon as you can. Pretty good value as well.

The rest of the staff will do no more than they have to which become irritating.

The beach is nice, and it's got lots of new sand on it. Believe me I sat there whilst the digger went up and down the beach putting it there!!!
The waters are very shallow of the beach and are full of fish. The natural beauty of the area is amazing and so is the wildlife.

The resort caters for 'weekenders' and things change Friday-Sunday. Disappointingly the second resturant is closed at night so you only have 1 place to eat, and there is no bar a night either. Take a jumper with you, the restaurant is freezing.

Nice place, good diving I just wish more care was taken with the resort and the staff are better trained.

This was a great way to get a taste of Puerto Rico! Visited: September 2002
Posted by pattysan
This was a wonderful place to relax and get a taste of the real Puerto Rico. The staff was helpful, professional and friendly. The rooms were nicely decorated with mini fridges and nice amenities. The grounds were truly beautiful and well maintained.

I do recommend a rental car, as the resort was far from any attractions or nightlife. The only problem we had was the mosquitos! Bring insect repellant! They were everywhere, and they got in the rooms when the doors opened and were also able to get under the doors (weatherstripping would be a great idea).

The beach was just okay. Overall, it was a great introduction to Puerto Rico and we would return again.

It was nice - but hard to find! Visited: June 2002
Posted by johnboy53
It was advertized as one-and-a-half hours from San Juan, but the road trip to Copamarina took us over three hours, including time lost looking for the resort. We were even given wrong directions by a local traffic policeman. Until you are almost on top of the place, there are no signs indicating the whereabouts of the Copamarina Resort, which is 6.5 km from the junction with Rt 116 on Rt 333 (hang a left at the Burger King).

The resort itself was well-appointed, with beautiful grounds full of flowering plants and aviaries (caution: some of the tropical birds bite, especially the cranky red parrot at the back of the bar).

The beach was kept clean, and has pretty, white sand. The water was pleasant and not rough, but there was a lot of seaweed beyond paddling depth. There was a large, floating, bouncy ring and an inflatable plastic iceberg for the kids to play on just off the pier.

Some water craft was available for hire. When we were there, only one of three Craig Craft (underpowered two person mini boats) moored at the pier was operational. It was available on a first-come, first-served basis (could not be reserved ahead of time). We did not use the facilities of the Dive Shop, which appear to be extensive.

The hotel rooms were attractively wood-paneled with air conditioning and a ceiling fan. Unfortunately, the wall air conditioner spewed hot air out into the veranda area where tables and chairs were located, making this impractical to use for sitting out (far too hot). More expensive units (I assume) had their own outside fan to circulate air.

The breakfast was typical Caribbean buffet style, with a cook available to make omelettes. Lunch snacks were available until 6:00 p.m. at the bar, which generally shut down in the evening when the restaurant opened. We learned to check our bar bills carefully.

The restaurant was pleasant, but the service was depressingly slow. If the nearest town had been closer, we would have likely eaten out. We did go down on a Sunday evening to the bioluminescent bay area, about a 30-minute drive away. However, the town (and its restaurants) was filled to overflowing with local people and cars, with no space in the parking lot, so we headed back to the resort.

Overall, the resort itself was pleasant and a relaxing place to spend a couple of days. However, our difficulty finding the resort and the length of the trip from San Juan detracted from our enjoyment of the first day. If you do drive yourself, bring a lot of change in quarters and nickels: there were multiple toll booths between San Juan and Guanica in each direction, requiring from 25c to $1.25.

A beautiful and peaceful resort. Visited: February 2002
Posted by tracie9162
We stayed in February and we had a great time.

Other than transportation to and from the resort, we had a great time with no problems whatsoever. The transportation provided by the resort was very expensive and troublesome. I suggest you rent a car from the airport and drive to the resort. It was a wonderful drive across the island and the sites were great. You will make out better cost-wise by renting a car and driving yourself.

The resort itself was wonderfully landscaped, with plenty of seating and recreation for a couple or a family with children. There were things for people of all ages to do. This resort was great for everyone.

The pools were very clean and the grounds were well kept. They had beautiful wild birds in cages in various locations throughout the grounds. I thought this was a very nice touch.

The open-air cafe (Las Palmas Cafe) was nice, but overpriced. The main dining area was overpriced as well. I suggest you drive into town to eat - you will save a lot of money and it tastes better.

The staff was friendly and courteous. They were also very helpful. I think the accommodations were great and I would return again and again.

If you want a great getaway, this is the place for you. It was secluded and private. The scenery was wonderful. This was a great place.

It was very much worth the drive! Visited: May 2001

I admit getting here is a challenge, but what a paradise! Being in the airline industry, I have been everywhere, but Copamarina is one of the few spots I recommend to everyone!

It is tranquil and beautiful, and the staff is super. My husband and I are dying to get back--if you can't relax here, you can't be helped.

Beautiful and peaceful Visited: January 2001
Posted by jakelly65
Copamarina was beautiful and peaceful. Superb grounds. Rooms were pleasant. We stayed mid-week (but high season) and were able to get an excellent rate as "walk-in" guests (much lower than quoted on-line or by phone).

Resort was nearly deserted mid-week, although we understand weekends are busy. The restaurant and outdoor patio were pleasant to dine in, but costly; $3 for coffee, $14 for a lunch hamburger, and dinner for two will set you back a minimum of $75. (If you're on a budget, drive 10 minutes into Yauco for meals. We picked up danishes at a bakery and used the in-room mini-fridge and coffee-maker.)

The drive to the resort was like a paved goat path through the hills. A little unnerving but beautiful scenery. Behind the resort was a dry forest preserve. We recommend taking the very short boat ride to Gilligans Island or it's neighbor (name escapes me, but was actually nicer) for sunning and snorkeling. Hotel charges $130 to take you, or rent a variety of watercraft from $30 to $90 for a few hours. Or get lucky and find a local to take you for $4 per person like we did! Hotel also offers scuba outings, and we heard there were some terrific areas nearby.

Nice pools (two childrens pools), hot tub, lots of nooks with chairs inviting you to sit, relax and enjoy the incredible view.

Unlike many of our experiences in PR, Copamarina actually was even more beautiful than it's brochure photos.

My husband and I went to Copamarina for our anniversary and had a great weekend. We visited the Ponce shopping center, "Bosque Seco" Dry Forest and Gilligan's Island. We had a super dinner at Willos's Restaurant. We hope to come back for other anniversaries.

A real getaway!! Visited: November 1999
Posted by ATraveler
My wife and I have stayed in many different places for vacation. Copamarina is one of our favorite places in Puerto Rico. The hotel is very quiet and has a very relaxing environment. The beach is very calm, (Caribbean Sea), so you will be able to place your beach chair in the water while drinking a Piņa Colada. The restaurant is absolutley outstanding. The rooms could be a bit cleaner. However, the hotel has new rooms available.

The hotel is located a short driving distance from one of the few remaining florescent bays in the world, so it is recommended to take a drive to the Parguera Bay to view this world wonder at night.

Service in the hotel was beyond our expectations, believe me you will feel better staying here than in a bigger resort where you're just a number. Last year we stayed at Copamarina with some friends from the states and they were very impressed with the tranquility of the resort.
