3.0 stars Escape to nature! Visited: July 2004
Posted by annabookit
The property was exactly as described to me. Unfortunately, it was a little to simplistic for my husband's taste.

I should have known better. I rented the first floor of the mountain villa so that my daughters first visit to Puerto Rico would be as the natives live it. But my husband was looking for a "vacation" resort. I had "warned" him ahead of time, but I guess he wasn't listening.

In either case, we stayed one night instead of a week, and made other reservations at a resort. The villas aren't for everyone, but they have an unbelievable view, and Mitchell was so understanding and helpful. I was sorry that it wasn't to our liking.

We had a very nice and peaceful stay at this hotel. The nature was breathtaking and our hosts were extremely helpful.

The six of us (yes, we have four children!) loved staying near the pool, playing tennis and strolling around in the local jungle (go down to the stream!).

The suites were large and clean; perfect for the six of us.
We saw more fauna than we did in El Yunque: lizards, birds, coquis, even an iguana... and puppies!

This was a terrific place! We recommend it.

4.0 stars It was relaxing, peaceful and and truly wonderful. Visited: March 2004

Staying at Caribe Mountain Villas was terrific. The out of the way place, far from the hustle and bustle, was a perfect getaway. It was conveniently located between San Juan and Fajardo/El Yunque, and hosts Mitchell and Jeff were terrific. They know how to cater to their guests.

The grounds were beautiful and the pool was never crowded. Brick Oven Pizza Parties were the greatest. The Villa itself was nice. It was an older building, so expectations should be ready for that. We had a great stay.

The mountain road gets a little tricky at night, and definitely not for those with some drinks under their belt. A great time was had by me, my husband and teenage son.

5.0 stars These are fantastic villas, with a fantastic host - a fabulous getaway! Visited: February 2004

Caribe Mountain Villas is a gem for those seeking a quiet getaway amidst breathtaking scenery.

Although it is nestled in the mountains, big cities and bright lights are just a short trip down the highway. San Juan, beautiful Luquillo Beach, Mosquito Bay with its bioluminscent lagoon, El Junque (the rainforest), Fajardo (where you can catch the ferry to Culebre or Vieques) and much more are easily accessible.

The Villas are outstanding – spacious, clean, and comfortable – and the owners are constantly working to improve their already gem of a property. The owners are terrific and a big reason we recommend the Villas. Not only are they a fountain of information for local activities, they are genuinely wonderful people who strive to make your stay memorable.

We came to Puerto Rico to elope and marry on a beach at sunset. Thanks in large part to Mitchell, we had the best wedding of all our friends and family. He took the time to work with us, found a fabulous wedding coordinator, and made sure we were taken care of every step of the way. He truly went above and beyond our expectations.

Everyone has commented on how relaxed we both looked in the wedding pictures and how much fun it looked like we were having. So, we thank Mitchell again from the bottom of our hearts. We will be back!

5.0 stars I was very impressed with this ecologically distinct vacation site. Visited: February 2004

My wife and I had the good fortune to spend a week at Caribe Mountain Villas in February 2004. We had been to Puerto Rico many times and were anxious to stay away from the madding crowd of San Juan.

After an adventurous climb up the mountain, we pulled into Caribe Mountain Villas and felt extremely comfortable in our own unit. Mitch, our host and owner, went out of his way to make us as in tune with the environment as possible.

The villa was clean, spacious, large, and had all the goodies we needed. Sitting at the pool and looking out across the valley at the blanket of foliage was the best. We had a blast!

If this is the first time you're going to Puerto Rico, or if you've already been there and are going again, Caribe Mountain Villas in the foot hills of the rain forest is a great place to stay. It is only 25 miles from San Juan.

The villas are comfortable and spacious. The view is divine. When you stay at Caribe, you'll have a great time. The coquis will serenade you to sleep, and you'll wake to the gallo's cackling song. Nature will envelope you with peace and tranquility.

Carino and praise to the owner Mitch, as well as the staff Micheal and Jason who were always helpful and friendly during our two-week stay. A heart felt thank you for your generosity, and for making our visit one to remember always. We wish you and Caribe Mountain Villas only good things.

5.0 stars Get a feel for the land at Caribe Mountain Villas. Visited: January 2004

Staying in one of the big name hotels in Puerto Rico is the same as staying in a hotel anywhere. If that's what you're looking for, save the air-fare, and book a room at the nearest Hyatt.

If you really want to know what it feels like to be a native, and awaken to the sounds of the roosters crowing, and the birds singing, instead of the muzak of the elevator, this is the place to go.

The staff makes you feel more like old college chums visiting after a long time apart, and their knowledge of what's really worth trying on the island ensures you'll always have something to do. The views from the villa at dawn and sunset alone are worth the visit, and its convenient location half-way between Old San Juan and the Caribbean National Rain Forest, and easy access to the main highways allow you to decide whether you want to go native or urban easily.

The pool, outdoor bar area, and bar-b-que allow the limited number of guests the chance to get friendly, and feel like fellow adventurers instead of just room numbers.

Every evening while sitting on our porch sipping cocktails and marveling at the night sky only the top of a mountain can provide, my husband and I would look at each other and say, 'you can't get this at a hotel'. We can't wait to go back.

4.0 stars Caribe Mountain Villas provide comfortable, peaceful, centrally located accommodations. Visited: December 2003

During our family's nine-day stay at Caribe Mountain Villas, we found our villa more than adequate for our family's basic needs.

We were looking forward to a relaxing vacation for four adults and two children. Our accommodations provided plenty of space and all the necessary essentials during our stay, while being situated in luscious greenery of jungle like surroundings.

Our hosts, Mitchell and Jeff, were always close by for suggestions or information on making our family's daily adventures more enjoyable.

We would recommend Caribe Mountain Villas to anyone who enjoys a peaceful, natural, tropical setting, with all the comforts of home.

5.0 stars Caribe Mountain Villas offered a peaceful and quiet retreat. Visited: December 2003

We rated this place as five stars for the quality of the service, the peaceful environment, and beautiful outdoor set up with a gazebo, barbeque, pool, tennis, nature trails, etc.

The lodging facilities were more of a two to three stars. The garden villa, with two bedrooms, was clean. We had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable.

We were two couples. When we arrived, the basic groceries (including the wine) had been purchased, Jeff and Mitchell had prepared a nice dinner, we were able to unpack, relax and enjoy the location.

These guys were fabulous, they are improving the place every day. A few years from now, I can just see them having to turn down bookings because the place will be so much in demand.

Be aware that going out for a wine dinner requires to assign a driver. The road up the mountain was not for everybody, people drove fast. You had better stock up and enjoy dinner under the stars at your villa.

We had a wonderful time even though, we missed our flight out. We spent nine hours in the emergency room on New Year's day and we had a car accident on January 2nd. Guess what! It did not matter, we had a ball!

This is a beautiful find, tucked away in the mountains, yet close to the main shops and attractions. Jeff and Mitchell make you really feel welcome.

The rooms (suites) are huge, clean and have a private balcony where all you can see is lush forest, and all you hear are the frogs. I give it five stars plus!

We took over the entire property so that our family could celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. Our children and grandchildren came together from all parts of the country. Mitchell and Jeff had a terrific arrival dinner for all. They made arrangements for our family activities, including a lavish birthday dinner and celebration at the Ritz-Carlton hotel. Thank you Mitchell and Jeff! It was fantastic!

We enjoyed our stay, and the owners were great in helping out with some of the outings on the island. The wine chat around the pool was also fun. It was off the beaten path, so it would not be for everyone. But it was a great place to come back to after a day out on in San Juan.

El Yunque was tremendous, and we did a lot of hiking in the rain forest. I agree that skipping the Bacardi tour is not a big deal.

We stayed in one of the Coqui Penthouses this summer and we were delighted with our accommodations! Jeff and Mitchell were such gracious hosts that we felt like we were staying with friends for a week.

Since our flight arrived after dark, we were met at the airport so we wouldn't get lost, and our fridge was stocked with a few essentials so we didn't have to worry about breakfast the next morning. One evening while driving back from Ponce, we did get lost. We called our hosts and they patiently talked us through our bind and back to our villa. Thanks to Jeff and Mitchell, we enjoyed Puerto Rico much more than we thought we would.

Caribe Mountain Villas was a delightful departure from stuffy, snobby resorts and hotels. We're planning to visit again next summer and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

If you are looking for a laid-back kind of place, check out Caribe Mountain Villas.

It is close to beaches, shopping, nightlife, and the airport. It also has a swimming pool, tennis court and you even have your own private terrace.

If you get here when the fruit is ripe, you can pick some of the tropical fruit growing on the many trees on the property. You can relax in your own tropical jungle, listen to the coqui and birds, and be dazzled by the beauty of your surroundings.

If you are looking for peace and beauty, this is the place to go. Service given by Mitchell and Jeff is superb. Just ask and they are there to serve you. You cannot go wrong with a vacation at this villa. I fell in love with the place. I would definitely go back.

My friends and I stayed at this beautiful villa for two weeks. The villa was spacious and clean and also reasonably priced. The lush tropical foliage and nature sounds were just amazing. It was paradise. The owner was wonderful and very helpful with recommending tourist things to do.

We highly recommend this location, and we will be going back to visit soon.

My husband and I recently relocated to Puerto Rico and stayed at Caribe Mountain Villas for two months. This little paradise made our relocation smooth and enjoyable. Our hosts Mitchel and Jeff went over and above their positions as hotel owners to make our stay and transition pleasant.

The property itself was a little paradise tucked away in the mountains. It was like staying in your own private rainforest. The plants were incredible and the sounds from wild life were unbelievable.

We visit the Villas monthly to escape the metropolitan area and to enjoy the tranquility of the mountains. We can guarantee great service and great friends. If you're lucky enough, you can be here during one of their Pizza Cookouts. I, too, will enjoy a good meal and drink with you!

4.0 stars It was a tropical wonderland - clean and serene. Visited: May 2003

Jeff and Mitch were new owners of this property and they were in the process of doing a lot of alterations. This will take time due to the weather in Puerto Rico.

I was here with a friend and we enjoyed our stay very much. The place was clean and the two-bedroom villa was very large. I was pleasantly suprised. If it were up to me, I would have never ventured out of the complex, it had everything one could want.

One night, Jeff and Mitch made pizzas in their brick oven and we all got to put whatever we wanted on it. They even provided the wine and the pizza toppings. It was fun, and we got to know some of the other guests.

I felt very comfortable here and would like to go back some day. The pool was really nice and kept clean, but it was the rain forest so we did get some leaves falling. The tennis courts were being done over and so were the stairs to them.

I would recommend the Villas to family and friends. It was within driving distance of everything, and Jeff and Mitchell really knew their way around and could give you directions anywhere.

The only thing I thought was a waste of time was the tour of the Barcardi Factory, it was a quick walk through, and the Barcardi was cheaper at the duty free shop in the airport.

For couples or big families, this place had all the room you would need or want. You won't be disappointed.

2.0 stars This diamond in the rough was a bit too rough for my taste. Visited: January 2003

This past January, we rented this place in the mountains of Puerto Rico, the Carolinas region to be specific. I thought it would be an interesting departure from the typical high rise oceanfront I normally opt for. When I arrived, I found the grounds themselves to be quite lovely. However, the accommodations were truly quite dismal. It was bad enough that the unit was suffering from serious décor issues. However, the unit presented was very dirty. All the glass surfaces were completely smudged. Because I didn’t feel like searching out another hotel, I spent the next two hours cleaning our apartment. After cleaning and arranging things in an aesthetically pleasing way, the place had a nice charm about it. This sort of theme seemed to haunt my thoughts the entire week I stayed.

The pool area was great but often littered with leaves. The tennis court was accessed by some rather rickety and slippery ramps and steps. The court itself is in need of resurfacing. The black mold is curiously absent from the web photo.

Anyway, I don’t want to come off as completely negative, as I did stay the whole week. Our host was a delightful guy and very helpful. I just wish the notion of pride in ownership was more present.

My family, friends and I spent a wonderful and beautiful week.

We rented the penthouse and one of the garden villas. The surroundings were beautifully landscaped making the setting visually attractive whether day or night. The accomodations were comfortable, spacious, and relaxing.
