It was awesome. Visited: December 2006
Posted by salsero4u
I stayed in this hotel from December 19 - 23, 2006. The staff was incredibly nice, and very helpful and accommodating.

The rooms were always clean, and the television was in good working order. The upstairs pool was good and shallow, but would not be recommended for kids under four feet and don't swim. There were no lifeguards, so watch your children.

The Jacuzzi was not so good, it must be a jetstream problem. It was not strong enough for people with back problems. The service calling from the pool was great. It was a bit expensive, but I thought it was worth it.

The only thing I was not satisfied with was the valet parking. I had a brand new car, and left it there during my stay. However, when I left soon after, I noticed there were scratches and paint chipped off the bumper of the car which was lousy. I would have had better chances parking the car outside if I had found a spot.

It was just adequate. Visited: January 2006

This was in an ideal location for Old San Juan. It was amongs the bars and restaurants, and within walking distance to the sights.

The room service menu was good, but expensive. I had a baked potato, pork chop, grilled vegetables, and a Coke for $30 (inclusive of tax and gratuity). My friends enjoyed the fish and sandwiches.

I never had a problem with the noise because I took a room that faced into the center of the hotel. I had no balcony or view, but I slept soundly. The room service closed at 11:00 pm. I prefer a 24-hour service, just in case!

The staff was polite. I didn't eat in the restaurant as everyone kept saying how expensive it was. You'll find plenty of eateries close by - and cheaper.

The rooftop pool was quiet - maybe because the water was cold? The hot tub wasn't much better. There was no lifeguard on duty, which would be a worry if you have children.

There were a few well-maintained cardio machines and weights in the gym, which never got too busy while I was here. There was a small casino next to the foyer which will relieve you of any funds the restaurant doesn't.

They provided nice rooms, but it was a noisy areas and we received poor service Visited: January 2005

The rooms were lovely inside. But both in the front and back of the hotel, it was very noisy (generators, and clubs).

It was very centrally located, in terms of being within a four-minute walk to Old San Juan's best restaurants and shops. But the service was very poor, and the internet service never worked - even after our complaints. Also, we were overcharged for the breakfast room service.

I suggest you avoid the Sheraton if you can - or go with low expectations (if you get a great deal on the room rate). I didn't think it was worth more than $150 per night.

Great location stupid staff Visited: December 2003

The location is wonderful for access to Old San Juan. There is a great bar and great bar tenders. No beach available. As a hotel to stay in when on business it rates below average. The staff are very poorly trained when dealing with business types. They evidently do not understand FEDEX or UPS shipping. The doormen just stand and stare when people unload boxes. The staff at night is totally unaware of what the day staff has done. They can not find things and are not helpful at all. The hotel has no courtsey vehicle in case of emergencies, when taxis are on strike.

Very nice and in a great location. Visited: September 2003

Before checking into this hotel, we stayed at the El Conquistador. We thought that this hotel was cleaner and the staff much more accommodating than at the El Conquistador.

Both were Wyndham properties, but it was almost like night and day when comparing cleanliness and service. This hotel was located in the heart of Old San Juan, overlooking the cruise docks. It was an easy walk to all points of Old San Juan and the views of the harbor were amazing.

We would highly recommend this hotel for a one- to three-night stay.

The Wyndham was a great place to stay! Visited: April 2003

I stayed here for one night in between flights from the Caribbean to the US. The hotel was very nice and the staff was very courteous.

The casino was nice, too. The Black Jack's lowest minimum was $15, which was a bit pricy, so we went to the other Wyndham with a bigger casino.

The food in the dining room and for in-room service were very good. The location was excellent and there was a nice outside patio. If I were to take a cruise from Puerto Rico, this would be great because the cruise ships were across the street.

Earlier on my trip, I stayed at a Wyndham in Ft. Lauderdale and it was a terrible experience. This hotel was more of what I would expect from this chain and would stay here again.

The only other negative was that there was a Senor Frog's behind it. That was great, but it was a bit loud because our room was on that side of the hotel. It really wasn't a big problem at all, but it might be a good idea to request a room that's not facing the back of the hotel.

A perfect place to stay before cruising. Visited: June 2000
Posted by lilimanchi
I stayed in this hotel the night before going on a cruise. It is the perfect location, simply because it is within walking distance of the port.

The staff was really friendly, the rooms were really nice and the hotel surrounding was very clean. I recommend this hotel to anyone who will be traveling to the San Juan area, especially if you are going on a cruise.

Convenient location for a one night stay before cruising Visited: March 2000
Posted by ATraveler
I stayed at this hotel 3 nights in March 2000 (on business) and thought it was as nice and clean as other top notch hotels I have stayed at in San Juan. The hotel staff were very courteous, the food was fine, Casino top notch, and it's convenient to shopping, restaurants, and the cruise ship docks. There is a small pool on the roof with a view of the ships. (During my stay there was major construction next door behind the back of the hotel but it did not bother me).

I had no problem walking the mile or less to the El Morro and San Christobal fortresses which are must sees. I was here on the first Tuesday of the month and everyone (it seemed like everyone) pours into Old San Juan to see the galleries and stores which are open until 9 pm.

If you do not golf and are here one night, I would recommend this place because of its convenience to shopping in Old San Juan.
